"Unlocking Your Inner Potential: A Dive into 'Your Mind and How to Use It'"
In "Your Mind and How to Use It: A Manual of Practical Psychology," William Walker Atkinson serves as a guiding beacon through the intricate labyrinth of the human mind. Aptly subtitled, this book is indeed a practical manual that offers profound insights into understanding and harnessing the immense power residing within our minds.
Atkinson's writing is both accessible and enlightening, making complex psychological concepts digestible for readers from all walks of life. The book serves as a roadmap for self-discovery, empowering individuals to navigate the realms of their consciousness with purpose.
The author delves into various facets of psychology, ranging from the power of thought to the influence of habits on our daily lives. Atkinson seamlessly weaves together theory and practical application, providing readers with actionable steps to tap into the latent potential of their minds.
One of the book's strengths lies in its ability to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world implementation. Atkinson introduces readers to the transformative power of positive thinking, affirmations, and the cultivation of a success-oriented mindset. The manual is not merely a collection of abstract ideas but a toolkit for personal development and growth.
Moreover, Atkinson explores the connection between mind and body, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy mental and emotional state. He advocates for the significance of maintaining harmony within ourselves to manifest positive outcomes in our external realities.
"Your Mind and How to Use It" is a timeless piece that resonates with readers across generations. Atkinson's teachings continue to inspire those seeking to unravel the mysteries of their own minds and unlock their true potential. This manual is not just a book; it's a companion on the journey of self-discovery, offering profound wisdom for those ready to embark on the path to personal transformation.

Beginner Witch Things to Research
So many older - more experienced - witches tell beginner - baby - witches to start with researching things like protection spells, grounding, cleansing and warding but what do you research afterward? These are just a few things that I would recommend every individual to research, regardless of how experienced you may think you are.
Carl Jung's Map of the Soul This is where the archetypes stem from, a what a lot of witches dread doing - Shadow Work. Shadow Work is uncovering not just traumatic ventures of our pasts but also revealing what made and makes us who we are today. Studying where it all started makes working through your own shadow a lot less stressful and a lot hammering on the soul, it also leads to a lot less martyrdom in the spiritual community.
Honing in on your psychic abilities and Intuition Gaining the ability is easy, everyone has these abilities, you just have to work to get them to where you want them to be. Remember a spiritual practice is still a practice, you have to put in the effort to get better, just as you would a physical sport or an instrument.
Egregores and Amalgamations vs. Deitys vs. Pop Culture Deitys Egregores and amalgamations exist solely in the astral plane and can (and will) mimic, imitate, and parody deities. Being able to decern these, especially with your intuition will always provide useful. Learning that Lucifer from Dantes' Inferno is reaching out to you versus aspected, epithetic source Lucifer will give you a much better relationship and outcome in your practice.
Deity Work vs. Deity Worship Offering play a key role when learning to decern these from each other. You can in fact, do both, but be warned deities get jealous of each other.
Find what you love and surround yourself with it Incorporating things that you love into your practice and not actually doing what you love about your practice is one of the key differences I saw in my practice when I learned how to differentiate them. I found incoporating pop culture media into my practice made me get burnout from both that piece of pop culture and my spiritual practices.
Finding a form of divination that you are most comfortable with Everyone likes using cartomancy, divination using cards or pieces of paper, is the most common form of divination, but learning your favorite form of divination will help avoid burnout and creating tension for yourself in your practice.

Tigran: launching into a story about a time when he was 7 and watched a guy get eaten alive by dogs, completely unprompted and unnervingly blasé about the whole thing.
Etsushir: not listening, warming his hands over the nightly allotment of yams, smoking.
Palo: this is the tenth time he's heard this story, not listening, wondering whether Etsushir is smoking tobacco and where the hell he got it and can he have some?
#Lore:#Tigran has kind of a psychological fixation on people being eaten by dogs. Which is rooted in childhood trauma but it's hard#to tell because he loves dogs and always seems weirdly enthused by the whole concept.#More lore:#They're cooking on a dry dung fire which is very common in the region in general- largely grassland and savannah. Most of the#formerly wooded areas are deforested both on a long scale due to the drying climate and on a short scale of human use.#Wood is a valuable commodity and grown in agricultural regions and harvested with coppicing or otherwise imported by sea.#The northeast has an intact forest that hasn't been widely exploited due to distance from urban centers and impracticality of#transport over land and that's pretty much it.#The Highlands also retain woodlands within the interior but the formerly surrounding forests have been heavily exploited#(due to proximity to major rivers) and were fully wiped out within the past century.#The fact that cremation is the default and expected funerary practice and also used in most sacrificial offerings heavily#contributes (cattle and khait dung is allowable for these purposes due to the animals' sacred status but not considered preferable).#(associated with lower class funerals)#Anyway bottom line dry dung is going to be what the majority of people use for everyday fuel needs and also what pretty#much everyone on the pilgrimage is using (which the wealthier members are unaccommodated to but these guys are)#etsushir#tigran otto#palo apolynnon#the white calf

"distant relative" i assume you are referring to my father?
#happy father's day everyone!#mine was fucking terrible he received a C- rating at best#and that is me being fucking GENEROUS with the grading rubric yeah#anyway i love and respect anyone who feels the need to quietly publicly shame their negligent father figure on anonymous social media#there should be a RateMyProfessor website but it's RateMyParents#it would serve no possible practical purpose but it would be as potentially psychologically scalding as a ghost pepper and/or supernova so.#do it#.......that could actually be so interesting#comparing and contrasting the reviews of siblings and half-siblings and step-siblings#the differences in parental perception between the Black Sheep/Scapegoat and the Golden Child and the Middle Child and So On#(on that note why are the two main idioms for being blacklisted in your own family both *livestock* related who laid that groundwork)#ANYway. back to RateMyFather#this one dad gets nine 5-star reviews and one absolutely SCATHING no-stars review#which mathematically leaves him with a 4.5 rating BUT#the main thing you are left wondering is how did one dad end up with TEN reviews that is in itself an Indictment

This may not be a new observation for people familiar with hypnosis and trauma, but has anyone noticed how hypnosis seems to work on very similar mechanisms as trauma does?
I was already deeply familiar with trauma academically and personally when I recently started researching hypnosis, and the similarities are making me understand more about how trauma triggers form.
Both hypnosis that induces hypnotic triggers and trauma triggers cause you to associate something with another thing on a deep, subconscious level. Obviously associations can occur in other ways, but only in trauma and hypnosis have I seen such a deep correlation where a single phrase can cause someone to very reflexively perform an action or experience strong emotions.
Additionally, both trauma and hypnosis can induce a dissociative barrier between the trigger and conscious awareness. I read this post on amnesia play for hypnosis kink and I was just struck by like. Holy shit. That is what it feels like when I find an alter with trauma memories I am not supposed to know, and for a second I can remember everything and as I am starting to react emotionally suddenly it all starts to slip away until it feels blank and blurry and I have no idea what it was even though I knew it just a second ago. (Which is why I think to have a full understanding of hypnosis you cannot just look at therapeutic use because I do not think in therapy a memory barrier would be induced like this.)
And it makes sense, right? Like a brain is a brain, its going to have the same structure and mechanisms even in different contexts so it makes sense that it's not that different but I was still quite shocked by it.
And the thing it is making me realize about how trauma forms has to do with what hypnosis is and how it works.
At its core (at least this is what I have read, in several places, though it is a theory and not confirmed, which is fair it is hard to confirm for certain anything about how the mind works due to the nature of it) hypnosis is a heightened state of focus. Generally during hypnosis you are focused and relaxed, and the relaxation is how you can clear your mind enough to focus only on the hypnotists words and the feelings they make you feel.
This made me realize that trauma formation occurs during intense focus as well. The focus is based on fear; one needs to be highly focused on what is going on in a survival situation or a situation where they are being hurt in order to best navigate the situation and get out as quickly as possible, and because that is a High Priority all of the brain is focused on it.
I believe this heightened state of focus in trauma accesses a similar part of the mind that hypnosis does, albeit through violent and unpleasant means, and this is why things that occur during trauma formation can trigger these feelings that were felt during trauma formation to come back.
This is just my personal observations do not take this as academic truth but I am very interested in studying these similarities. If anyone knows any academic papers on this or personal experiences people have written on this topic I would be very interested in reading them.
I will be researching it but of course looking up hypnosis and trauma brings up mainly how hypnosis can be used to treat trauma (which is relevant to the topic still) and it will be hard to find something talking about specifically how hypnosis can sort of mimic trauma on a mechanical level.
(tw: violence)
It's like as if trauma is being attacked and torn open, and hypnosis is surgery. One is violent and damaging, and one is careful and can be healing, but they both reach inside of you to touch the same places.
#beep boop#hypnosis#hypnotism#trauma#hypnotherapy#abuse#its so funny i literally went to the hypnosis like oh kink? *looks around for two seconds*#HEY DID YOU GUYS REALIZE THIS IS THErAPY?#DO YOU GUYS. KNOW YOU ARE PRACTICING PSYCHOLOGY

on dick grayson & roy harper & marriage
I mostly stand by what I said here on the dickroy marriage poll (in short: lmao, they’d barely even admit they’re in a relationship) BUT after more thought I believe there actually is a world where they’d get married ‘for love’?
now, imo roy would never be the one to propose. marriage just isn’t that meaningful to him; it’s not something he really cares about. (and even if it was, proposing would feel like an ultimatum he doesn’t want to set. when everyone always leaves you, you learn to be careful not to ask for too much.)
and while I DO believe marriage means something symbolically important to dick, it’s a pretty fraught topic for him, given past experiences! so I think dick would resist putting labels on his relationship with roy, because acknowledging that there’s a romantic element to the way they love each other opens their relationship up to failing the way dick's past romantic relationships have failed.
but if they’d been in a stable relationship for a while, and dick had worked through some of his issues? well. so much of their relationship has been defined by leaving and being left, by other things getting in the way. so if they finally worked it out, I could see dick proposing as a promise to roy that he’s committed to roy and the life they’re building together. that he’s sticking around. that their relationship (that roy) is worth prioritizing!
and marriage might not mean much to roy, but he knows that dick takes it seriously. he knows that if dick is offering ‘till death do us part’ now—after working through his shit enough to be honest with himself—then dick means it. and that would be VERY significant to roy. it wouldn’t change anything about their relationship on the surface! but it would soothe the part of him that’s always bracing for abandonment, and let him believe that this is something he might get to keep.
they still wouldn’t have a wedding tho. they’d get courthouse married on a random afternoon with just them and a witness, and then probably not actually bother to tell anyone* unless asked directly, besides casually referencing it when quipping at each other.
*except donna. she knows because dick talked it through with her before proposing.
#this post isn't about bruce but he's certainly haunting it. like he haunts everything in dick grayson's life!!#and yeah i’ll admit the odds of dick actually working through his issues enough to get to this point is perhaps slim.#but I am choosing to believe its possible because I love roy harper and I want him to get a happy ending#he deserves the world!!!!!! unfortunately he doesn’t want the world he wants dick grayson to be happy and psychologically healthy#which is a much more difficult ask 😔#also after writing this I’m less inclined to think they’d get married for practical/utility reasons if it wasn’t strictly necessary#i think dick at least would be reluctant to make those vows if he didn’t know they both meant it#dc#mine: dc#dick grayson#roy harper#dickroy#roydick#i spent so fucking long editing this to try to cut it down and yet here we are. not every post is meant 2 be punchy and concise#it's much less rambly than it was originally tho!

I haven't seen anyone else talk about this so I will
THIS MOMENT RIGHT HERE I LOOK AT IT AND GO ABABABA
Icarus knows what's going on here I mean they've said several time that they know they're being manipulated but it's one thing saying you know something is happening and another to watch it happen in real time right after your brother made connections to how you used to treat someone else
Fable looks around at the changes prompting an apology from Icarus leading to Fable quickly and loudly blaming Quixis for changing thing bit in the kinda way you would blame someone for ruining your life and then the other shoe drops Fable knows damn well what day it is so he pretends to apologize for not being able to remove Quixis but then is quick to blame Centross for his failure to do so
you can see a sliver of the want to protest that Centross was protecting them that he saved their life that their best friend died valiantly protecting his family but they just don't have that kinda fight left it's not worth it and admitting that they were ever in need of saving implys a danger to be saved from and it doesn't take a genius to know how that would go over
Icarus is so tired they're fucking exhausted and sometimes when you're that tired the good fight can wait sometimes it's quicker safer and easier to just nod along and wait for them to finish whatever rant they deem it necessary for you to hear let whatever point they needed to make drive home and then go to bed because after everything even doing nothing but listen to them can be absolutely draining
#thank you for coming to my ted talk#i just think they're neat#i go abababababa#the psychology of icarus morningstar consumes my brain#they know what manipulation looks like#they practically invented that kind of manipulation#they know damn well whats going on#but they aren't going to fight it#and i go abababababa#and this above most other things shows the stark contrast between Rae and Icarus#AND I GO ABABABABABABABA#fablesmp

The best way to understand tumblr's strain of antipsychiatry is the many, many times I have seen Freud quotes tagged antipsych
#i dont think there are more than 20 or 30 people on this website who have actually read any anti psychiatry literature#bc literally all the antipsych posts on here i see were critiques of psychiatry BY psychiatrists from the fucking early 1900s#when your definition of anti psychiatry is less radical than freuds you need to not be calling yourself that#not that im anti psychiatry. i like the theory and find it interesting#but it's just something that informs my practice of psychology#bc a lot of the critiques are valid and can be worked into practice. theres a good preprint article i read that basically fixed one#of the big critiques of psychiatry too i can send it to anyone whos interested
