No More Dangerous Power Line Trees! 🌲⚡💨
After last week’s windstorm knocked a tree onto the power lines, I’m now cleaning up the aftermath! In this video from hand falling the rest, I’m tackling the stumps and tidying up the area around the power lines to prevent future issues.

Now we cut down all the trees on our blocks where climate change induced wind knocks down the power lines as “precaution.” Fam, the trees do lots of dope shit FOR us and we should leave healthy ones alone. You know what doesn’t have to be above ground? Power lines. We would have so much fewer power outages from climate change induced weather craziness. It’s even feasible with enough planning in areas with earthquakes. But just like the original utility companies didn’t give a shit about safety or blotting out the sky for poor people, power companies now never invest. Not just don’t invest in making things better, they’ve been allowed to be fully run by and for the kind of dipshit wealthy people who still own and run the American train industry. Rich idiots who think highly of themselves endangering millions while pretending they are helping with their avarice is a time honored tradition in America

I think a key thing to remember when judging all those "Astarion/Minthara/Lae'zel disapproves" reactions to like... helping orphans is that in context they're often rather realistic and practical considering what's being asked of them. If anything it's the more good-aligned companions willingness to drop everything and risk their lives to help randos in need of help that is unreasonable to expect.
Remember, from their perspective things like save-scumming are not real. They cannot metagame and prepare for what specific enemy or attack they might face. In-universe, death has consequence and you can die. Plus we're on an unknown time limit here to potential squid-ifying, not to mention their own personal baggage.
It's like... they're playing blind and on Honour Mode, and the consequences of failure isn't just a story going the way you might not like or your fave character dying. It's actual life and death. There are real stakes here for them.
So while yes they can approve of just... petty asshole stuff or even genuinely evil stuff, it's not unreasonable for them to have a problem with risking their lives for random strangers. Because if they're in your party, that's what you're doing. Making the choice to put their lives on the line for strangers. If anything they're all oddly brave and ride-or-die for whatever bullshit decisions you make from the start--I mean it takes a lot of reckless altruism while also being an asshole to them specifically (it's not hard to balance their approval by being nice to them directly on a good playthrough) to get them to hate you, let alone ditch the group.

That scene in Ted Lasso where Isaac instructs everyone to delete any intimate photos or videos of anyone they are not currently seeing could honestly air on tv as an ad campaign

I just saw a construction sign with a little stylized sillhouette holding up a stop sign, and the words "Prepare to stop."
That sign would be infinitely improved by the addition of a little Gandalf hat.

The fact that I like blind, unwavering devotion as a story drive, a ship dynamic and a trope in itself that much probably tells things about me a therapist should figure out.

every time I talk about historical context with potc I need to put a disclaimer, but there’s something very haunting about the way Elizabeth’s, Will’s, and James’ personal journeys all coincide with the piracy act (which granted colonial governors the authority to hang pirates on site instead of sending them back to England). how many pirates must have made the Atlantic crossing in the opposite direction before them. how it’s not ultimately law and Englishness and Moral Righteousness that destroys the pirates, but commerce.

karlach's thought about gortash is so.. bizarrely sweet actually.
she's still getting a bit of revenge against him, but it's not the simple "he needs to suffer and die," not how she is against zariel. no, that's not enough. even at this point she knows that doesn't fix anything and it's not what she truly wants, regardless of what he deserves.
she has him on his hands and knees for eternity, working to make a terrible part of the world just a little bit nicer. a little bit prettier.
she forces him to bring softness and beauty to a world filled with pain.
like i'm sorry WHAT???? karlach i fucking love you so much
(side note: gale saying "a mythal in my own right"... from my quick search, a mythal is a field of magical effect that's so powerful, it changes the rules of physics and reality. even at this point, what mystra is to the weave, he wants to be to the netherese magic in him.
he doesn't want to be a man, he wants to be a world-bending force of nature. he wants power to the point of dehumanization. to the point, really, of objectification.)

I just thought these were cool insights on the characters.
(Haven't checked if Lae'zel's options change if she visits the Creche first, but it is too late for that )
Edit: If you are wondering where this is, you should investigate the basement of the apothecary in the Blighted Village.

this post is fearmongering. the results of this study are concerning and should definitely be a matter of public discussion, but this is certainly not the conclusion the researchers came to.
the point of the study was to assess the risks of exposure to toxic metals- something one of the co-authors notes are “ubiquitous” fwiw- via menstrual products. Their research confirmed that these metals are indeed present in tampons, but no further conclusions are drawn. it is possible the metal entered into the cotton from the soil, which is a well-known phenomenon; cotton is so good at lifting heavy metals that it has actually been suggested as a part of the solution for revitalizing polluted ground.
the authors conclude with an acknowledgement that the study should be repeated- their sample size was 60 tampons- and a suggestion that further testing ought to be done to indicate whether or not these metals can even leech out of the tampon in the first place, let alone whether or not such leeching could occur at levels deleterious to human health.
there is, in fact, a body of research- too small, for sure, but much larger than this single study- indicating that long-term proper tampon use has no observable negative impact on health. i am grateful and thrilled that more research is being done and i hope that this study is the first of many on this line of questioning, but i am really frustrated at this post and the response it got.
obviously, if this study alters your approach to menstrual health, more power to you. consumers should be informed-risk-takers, and menstrual health is double-obviously a very personal choice. but it definitely wasn't the researchers concluding that you ought to “avoid using tampons at all cost," only this tumblr user did. the lead author of the paper, in fact, specifically says that she hopes people do NOT panic about the results.
(the notes of the post were disappointing. people affirming that they knew they were right to be suspicious of tampons all along, or even recommending alternatives that actually have very little to no research regarding the safety of long-term use, etc. it’s a different conversation, but categorical distrust of tampons is old-school misogyny. you certainly shouldn't wear them if you don’t want to, but there is nothing inherently scary or wrong about them, and people who prefer them are not being reckless or crass.)
((if you're really worried about exposure to heavy metals, you may want to turn a critical eye to fast fashion, as an aside))

this is just what america Is Like. no regard for the fact that pedestrians have just as much right to public spaces as drivers. it's built into the city design and traffic laws.
i love crossing the street in front of cars where i can see the driver is visibly annoyed because like. are you mad at me? am i making you mad? are you upset? are you gonna kill me about it? gonna vehicular manslaughter me? gonna split my head open like a watermelon with that big strong manly truck? are you mad at me?
#like im sitting in my nice comfy car that will more than make up for the time I spent waiting for pedestrians#please go ahead#being a pedestrian should not be stressful#yet america goes out of its way to make that the case#bree speaks#i like to stop for bikes coming up to the signaled bike path before theyve had the chance to press the button#cause like the effort to getting a bike moving is much more than the effort of pushing a gas pedal#but i dont always see them coming and i feel bad#likewise id rather sit in my car a minute or two longer than be the reason a pedestrian has to stand under a signal waiting for it to chang#or go out of their way to walk to the next crosswalk#or feel distressed in any way#america brain#my destination and safety is not any more important than theirs just because I could kill them if i was careless enough#and I hope that drivers would have the same respect for me as a biker or pedestrian#so yeah no I dont feel bad interrupting someone's drive because I've done my part#yes my safety is my responsibility#but as a driver with great power you must also accept the great responsibility of not being a danger to others#intentionally or unintentionally#my life is on the line but so is your freedom#social contract and all that#anyways#i think the problem is Americans have very little experience as pedestrians#and the experiences they do have are colored by their far greater multitude of experiences in a car#so combined with driving being the onlu legitimate way to exercise any kind of freedom of movement in most of the US#driving feels more like a right than the privilege it truly is and should be#compared to walking
