Since I’m here I’m deciding to post some of my headcanons for America’s colonial era
Should also mention this is just part 1, there will be 4 parts and it covers everything from America’s birth to the revolution and perhaps I’ll talk about the actual war a bit idk!
Also content warning* I’ll talk briefly on a actual native tribe and the ‘death’ of that tribe but in no way am I trying to undermine what Native American went through/still are going for my made up world. I am a fan of historical hetalia and this is history!
Now to start my version of America was not Virginia, she is not related to anyone and the only person she could technically be related to is dead. Also should mention just to be clear—Annemiek is America
Her mother was the representative of the Erie tribe. A Native American tribe that inhabited the lands that would later become new Netherlands and eventually, New York. This tribe was one of the plethora of tribes that had been dissolved due to the oncoming European settlers. New Netherlands did not have a father as her mother was pregnant asexually, the sign given to female nations that she will die soon and her child will take the place as the representative of that land.
Now since this representative was going to die soon and knew she was going to die soon, she was not trying to be a mother to the New Netherlands but rather just a carrier. Once she discovered her pregnancy she went to the Netherlands and he allowed her to house in his settlement until she delivered the baby.
Only a couple days after New Netherlands was born she left back to her tribe, not even naming the child. Though it did not matter as she died a week later. Since her mother did not name her, it was the Netherlands who gave her the name Annemiek Meijer, though her name would change once the English took New Netherlands.
Now discussing the way Annemiek was treated; it was clear that the Netherlands cared more for the land and less for the person. He wanted New Netherlands to prosper as her prosperity benefits him. He had very little regard for Annemiek as a girl and even less as a child. While Holland never abused or mistreated her outright, he never attempted or even made himself out to be a parental or loving figure for her.
This type of relationship is not uncommon as colonies are rarely if ever seen or treated as legitimate children. It’s either pets or property. Either they’re accessories for empires to ogle at, show off, and fight over or their property; representation of land masses in the most literal sense. Though no matter which way a colony is treated, the thoughts, individuality, and feelings of a colony are always regarded in the same way; it doesn’t matter.
Now Annemiek was property and being property meant she had to stay on the land she represented and do nothing more than exist. Her time as New Netherlands was fairly secluded, she lived alone save for a couple maids on a settlement near New Amsterdam though did Holland showed up every few months to check her wellness as a representatives health can determine the status of a colony.
She wasn’t completely alone as a colony however. She met other colonies during the rare times she got to go to a world meeting with the Netherlands. Ilha de Vera Cruz, New France, and New Spain were the ones she met the most though she met New Spain and Ilha de Vera Cruz considerably less due to the Netherlands relationship with Spain and Portugal. Though that didn’t cause Annemiek much heartbreak as she was a shy and reserved, she had a difficulty socializing due to how often she was isolated from the rest of the world. Though luckily for her, an isolated lifestyle and poor social skills would be a thing of her past once she became an English colony.
Tumblr media
Well that is it for part 1!
Part 2 will definitely be more as I will be discussing her life with England before everything went to shit! Which will be fun but I also made an old moodboard for her colonial period which I re-discovered when cleaning out my folders and I might show that one when I post part 2 ouuu

hey, is the bug army taking new recruits? Because if so, I've got a harpoon wielding existential dread fueled hunter who'd love to join
Her name: Duarte "Lightning Bug" Cardoza
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Shitty drawings done by me in my notes app, and the harpoon picture taken from here)
Genderwise they're unlabeled and use any and all pronouns
LORE TIME :DD (tw traumatic violence, gore)
At seven years old, his parents, Emile and Marcy Cardoza, got a divorce after a few months of growing apart emotionally. Duarte was sent to live with her father who almost immediately chose to move from Portugal to America to escape the memories of his former marriage.
She was never particularly close with her father, and any attempts to reconnect with her mother were just really unsuccessful as they had nothing to connect over. So a lot of their early life was spent unsupervised. Most of their childhood was spent exploring the city she lived in, alone, and getting into various scrapes. Duarte had a very laissez-faire attitude towards his own health and became more and more arrogant as time went on.
He moved away from home at 19, and began travelling the country until they turned 20. At that point they fell in with the wrong crowd and started running errands for some unsavoury individuals. At first it was just small things: petty theft, vandalism, intimidating business rivals but then it turned violent. Deep down they knew it was probably wrong, but they didn't care. They got to show off and play the Han Solo type, so why would they?
Eventually she fell out with her current employer, and, because god forbid they get a normal job, chose to go into hunting half bloods. They found it exhilarating, and proving that they were just as good as the more experienced hunters wrong felt incredibly cathartic.
Shit had to hit the fan at some point.
During one of her earlier hunts, she tried to attack and kill a crocodile that she thought was the half blood she'd been looking for. Turns out it was just a regular, and now very angry, crocodile. She was overpowered almost immediately, and the beast began to drag her into the swamp. As she struggled to free herself, kicking and screaming in pain, something dawned on them.
They were going to die. And it was their own goddamn fault.
They scrambled to grab their harpoon, which had been knocked aside by the crocodile's tail. They grabbed it and thrust it forward blindly, hacking and slashing untill the beast's jaw clamped around their leg went slack. Blood oozed from the sides of the crocodile's mouth. Breaths shallow, Duarte pried the beast's mouth open, letting out another choked scream as the teeth ripped at their flesh, gore dying the grass beneath them brown. One or two teeth stayed jammed stubbornly in their skin, tearing more and more at their skin with every passing moment.
Shaking, they stumbled to their feet, their leg a lead weight chained to them. Using their weapon as walking stick, they made their way back to town, ashamed.
During her time healing, she had alot of time to think. The incident changed the way they thought about life, and forced them to reconsider everything they'd done up to that point. How close they'd come to death and how it was nobody's fault save her own. And that terrified them.
After a month she returned to hunting, but she became a lot more cautious, planning out her hunts a lot more carefully instead of just jumping straight into the action. But this led to them getting up in their own head and getting overly nervous.
On one such hunt, she began to grow increasingly anxious that she hadn't prepared enough, especially considering all she'd heard about the monsters in these swamps. She started running through the plan in her head, getting so distracted that they didn't notice the trap right in front if them. They only noticed when they walked straight into it.
And they hurt the same. fucking. leg.
LORE OVER WOOOOO
Anyway that's their application. I can keep going. I can do this all dayyy

Since requests are open. Could i request Damara Megido x S/O who's allergic to tobacco smoke?
personally speaking from my own experience: i cannot be around smokers when they be smoking that shit. Even a small whiff of it has me coughing and wheezing, to the point where i need to instantly leave the place. My eyes get watery and my throat gets hoarse and sore, the smell invades my nostrils and fucking takes over that shit like how Portugal invaded Brazil. I have noticed on some occasions i become Rudolph the fucking red nose raindeer. If i stay long enough that shit that shit might, A) kill my ass B) leave me hospitalized.
— 🗡️ anon - knight anon
♈ Damara Megido x Reader headcanons Allergy to tobacco smoke 🚬
You and Damara had a great relationship. You spent a lot of time together. You saw her as a beautiful girl, even though some people sometimes spoke of her as rude and sometimes annoying. The only thing that bothered you was the fact that she smoked a lot. You understood that it was her choice, but you had a severe allergy to tobacco smoke because of which you could not even be around when she smoked
She knew about your allergy, but when you first started dating, she forgot about it one day. As soon as you smelled tobacco, your allergy made itself felt. You ran out into the street, coughing and wheezing violently. Damara apologized to you for a long time for this. Since then, she has not forgotten about your allergies and did not smoke next to you, even if she really wanted to. She didn't want you to get sick because of her habit
During one of your conversations, you told her that a few years before you met her, you ended up in the hospital because of your allergies. You ended up in the same room with a smoker and you couldn't leave the room. You were so bad that you had to spend a couple of weeks in the hospital. When you told Damara about this, she got angry at the person who put you in the hospital and tried to make sure not only that she didn't smoke herself, but also that no one else smoked in your presence
You were grateful to Damara for her care. Many of your friends treated your allergy lightly and it really annoyed you. You knew how bad, painful and scary you were when you had allergy attacks because of tobacco smoke. Sometimes it seemed to you that a little more and you would die. You were really scared. Several times you had nightmares about your allergic attacks and each time Damara was there to calm and support you
Damara liked to smoke, but she was ready not to smoke for you. You were dear to her and she didn't want to harm your health. When she saw your allergic attack, she was very scared and she didn't want this to happen again, especially because of her fault. She genuinely cared about you and didn't want you to feel bad. She was ready to give up smoking completely for the sake of you and your health. You didn't force her to do it, but you were grateful to her. She was the only one who cared so much about you and your well-being

#hot take that’s why we need full decrim and decarceration rather than legalization#legalizing just lets capitalists in on what used to be underground economies#& still maintains the ability to arrest and incarcerate people who don’t have the right forms and shit#like it just creates this fucking awful two-tier system as described above#abolish the fucking police abolish prisons decriminalize everything
I heard once that Portugal legalized the whole lot. They sell the stuff in stores and literally nothing happened. They taxed the whole lot and used the money in education and health care.
Sweden decriminalized opioids and created safe places for people to get their drugs and be high. You know what happened? Drug ODs and deaths from drugs that had been laced went to essentially zero because people could be watched and get care.
I have supported groups like NORML and their ilk since I knew what they were. I talked my neighbor into legalization when I talked to her patiently about the difference between how the cops handle white kids and brown kids. She was born in the 40's.
If she can get it, others can too.
I'm not saying that I dislike that weed has been legalized in more and more states (imo all drugs should be legalized but that's not the point of this post)- I *am* saying that every time I pass a dispensary that looks like an apple store and I see white people talking freely about making special cookies and smoking in their spare time, all I can think about are the thousands and thousands of black people who experienced huge amounts of state-sponsered violence for even the suspicion of having weed on them and those who are STILL IN PRISON for possession charges.
And it. Just kinda makes me grit my teeth, you know? My father was illegally searched and brutalized in front of me when I was a little kid because the cop "thought he smelled weed" (he didn't, my dad doesn't touch the stuff) and in the mean time Becky in accounting takes a "special gummy" every night that she gets from a store next to the Starbucks.

It was ooh they are done she won’t be seen with him….she turns up to the premiere …..he doesn’t like her….she’s at the premiere smiling…..it’s the last final push…..it’s quiet because legal is involved, that turned to they are seen in a picture supposedly in Portugal …..his team sucks…..the picture is fake….the picture is old…..they aren’t together and you’re an idiot if you think so….
They claim this man found out about said shower video after the premiere mess
They claim this is affecting his mental health
They claim this would be over in April, possibly May
Then you have team real who think this equates to “love”, ummm nah.
I can agree that something is going on…..what I’m not sure, but the timing of this picture is suspect.
Chris is either very passive in real life or he’s purposely in this shit and doesn’t care about any outcome.
If he and his team didn’t learn how rare the love he had from his fandom was or if they knew and decided to capitalize on that…..SHAME on them.
It’s crazy how they don’t realize how had he been any other celeb, the dick pic mess would have been messier and problematic. His shit got sent to the dark web in a matter of hours due to fans from all over taking time out of their Saturday to hide it via memes. The talk show host went easy on him and cracked jokes and then in a week it was like it never happened.
His image and engagement was damn near perfect, he posted a picture of his arm….his freaking arm and that thing went viral like lightning……so this entire current mess has me like…. 🤔 why ruin his image by not seeing how this looked physically let alone vetting this chick?!
Was it the fear money not coming in due to not knowing of the aftermath of the pandemic, was it the lure of a project, was it funding, more money in his pocket?
I see so many making excuses yet they forget he and team started this, making fans out to seem crazy with those long ass fake essays, breadcrumbing the fandom all the way back to Jan 2022 and now it’s May 2023 and ……here we still are wondering what the hell is going on.
Oh….oh I can’t forget the BLOCKING!!!
But now Chris is some helpless bunny trapped in a Pr contract and wants to get out?!
If this contract happened in another country……then all US sources don’t know shit.
I think people are speculating as they go and guessing it then something else happens that leaves them like…..oh shit how do I clean this up ummmmmm…”Chris is mad and he wants out but can’t”……*gets new pic of Chris smiling and seeming fine*……he has to look okay because they need to sale this Pr thing.
I can see the contract side, but this man had this crew all up in his house, they went skiing, they traveled together, sat and played video games, did scare videos, went to Tara’s New Year’s party, she was at his premiere…..like it’s too much.
His mother follows her. It’s like whenever something happens things can be said to benefit both the pr and real sides, it’s a never ending roller coaster.
I guess when she post him in her IG then people will say the contract got renewed or they are in love and will be getting married soon…..it’s never going to end.
At this point the ONLY thing that would shock me is if next week they announce a breakup, then the speculation can go off the rails and I can get some new popcorn 🍿 to enjoy. 🤣
At this point I read what is being said and wait cus I know alba and Co are just waiting to prove them wrong.

Asking help from my mother in anything goes like this : ( Also social security in Portugal are the new “ Loan Sharks ?“ )
So our goverment is doing a witch hunt on people who took medical leaves this year. I took 1 month and a half of medical leave because i suddently stopped walking, and the recovery was , and still is a mess, and i still havent had treatment because it got canceled due to Codv, i literally just have pain killers, that im allergic to half. But nonetheless i got back to work ( as you know from previous posts i am a cook) , after 2 months on in and out. I went to the medical avaluation first month and they said it was not justified for me to be on medical leave, so they cut it. Blah blah i went to work early, started having even more problems, started not being able to walk again and so on. Basicly very complicated fight with the social security deparment. Because they kept saying i was lying and that i was good to work. Even tho i went to the hospital a few times, sick of the medication or because i couldnt walk again. And mostly because i could even barely stand while working even with 8 pain killers that they gave me. Few months in April they told me to send ALL the medical documents. And the funny thing is, the medical documents are a fucking joke, for example i was taken to the hospital because i couldnt walk, and was in excrucial pain, yet somehow the ER doctors noted that “ i was ok , not in  great pain “ , yet i was literally paralized in my leggs from the pain, and crying in pain non stop everytime someone moved me the slightest. Moving forward. they thanked me for sending all the documents and said they would let me know. Ok so they sent me a new letter this week threatning me , to send new documents because they werent enough. That the documents i sent didnt justify ENOUGH. I mean....it had back exams, legg exams, medical treatments that went consistently wrong, the hospital documents regarding my ambulance , and my ER trips ( NOT ONE TRIP , BUT MULTIPLE ), my doctors document saying i had starters of another back hernia, and my legg liggaments were inflated and damaged. I mean, THATS NOT ENOUGH? ok So i kindly sent an email asking, what was missing. So now i have to ask my doctor to make a timeline detailed document regarding the situation. But for no reason because the Social Security will and just wants to force me to pay it all back, probably because they r short on money in this lay off season , i dont know. And me being the socialy anxious and panicking over this situation i asked my mom to call our family doctor to write a new report because his was a little BLANT apparently. Even tho at the time i asked him to make it very detailed, yet my mom kept yelling at me to shut up and not to waste the doctors time and because it made no sense to make a detailed report. However maybe now she clearly sees that was not the case and that i was right that time. So yesteday she said she would call this morning, ok all good. I woke up , she called me over to the living room, and the conversation went like: Mom calls me over tells me its abou the doctor call. Me - So you called the doctor? Mom - No, you have to ask the doctor for medicine or complain about your back or something, you cant show up just asking for a document. Me - No, why would i ask medicine if i dont need, and he is our family doctor i can just---- interrupted me with an loud and agressive tone. Mom - you cant do that the doctor wont see you , thats wasting his time, thats not how you do things blah blah blah. ( i mean he is a family doctor, and this is just as important as medicine?? im being scammed and harrassed by Social Security?!! ) Me - No you say that you need medicine to the entry registration not the doctor, you have to be honest to the doctor, and its a social security matter, he will know its important, legal shit is important. - she interrupts me again but yelling this time.
And i straight up say : Stop being stupid. And she starts threatning me and blah blah blah. And tells me she wont call the doctor, and refused to help me. So i sayd “ ok “ and went to my room. First of all, its only the third time in my life that i ever call a name to my mom or “offend” her in any sort of way. The names i called my mom were : a monster ( one or two times loudly, but i do call her always in my mind, she beat me up or called me a piece of shit ) And the other it wasnt a name , i just told her i hated her. My mom, my whole living life as called me the fallowing multiple times across the years, some daily , some monthly : A Bitch. An ungratefull piece of shit. A piece of shit ( Also most used one ) Yelling in my face agressivly saying “ YOU ARE SHIT” ( never forgot this one , she did it for a whole month ) Dumb ( this is her most used one, specially when i was just a little child lol ) A lazy fuck ( when  i started having depression and during my depression episodes , such as not being able to get out of bed and stuff ) Irresponsable ( because i dont have a second job, even tho i work 12 hours daily and leave home at 7 am and get back at 2/3 am ) Uselesss ( many many times ) And ofc many sub versions of these ones for specific ocasions. And i have been hearing these since i was in my 3/4 grade LOL, basicly a baby child. And now for the past hour has entered my room acting like a VICTIM, like shes an actual victim of abuse LOL  And now is asking if i called the doctor. BITCH I CANT CALL THE DOCTOR, my fucking crippling anxiety doesnt let me, thats why i asked you. FFS
So now im stuck, i need to call the doctor, but i cant... so im just panicking....

I mean, it isn't about killing old people, it's about personal choice in Healthcare descisions.
To preface: I'm an anarchist. I don't believe the government should regulate personal choices in general. Health care descisions such as what pharmaceuticals available over the counter should be between you, your doctor, and potentially your pharmacist. Ultimately I think the government's role in this whole equation should be to make absolutely certain that the thing your pharmacist is handing you is what the package says it is. A doctors profession, optimally would be explaining these and other matters, in such a way that you actually understand. Then you should be left with whatever choice you want to make.
I believe that given the correct information, you should be allowed to make your own medical decisions, including decisions that others would deem unsafe, unhelpful, or unwise. This can and should include using, or in fact, abusing addictive drugs. Will this result in some people doing things that are, in fact, unsafe, unhelpful, and unwise? Sure. People already do unsafe, unhelpful, and unwise shit all the time. There isn't a law against 90% against all the stupid shit a person can do in their life, even if it will result in them becoming habit forming, or even kill them (for examples: gambling, drinking, anonymous free use sex, etc).
I also believe that one of the medical choices you should be allowed to make, is the medical descision to die on your own terms. I believe that if you are suicidal, you should always have the option of meeting with a medical professional to discuss the manner in which you want to die. You should be allowed the dignity of a quiet and safe death.
And finally:
Addiction is, in fact, a environmental condition. The risk factors for addiction, from the same article you posted, include but are not limited to: young age, socioeconomic status, race, untreated pyschiatic disorders, and environments that promote misuse.
All of the listed risk factors are associated with the environment of fear and stress that is being a minority in America. In countries where drugs are not only legal but easy to obtain, such as Portugal, nearly every factor a country can measure, such as overdoses, problematic drug use, drug addiction, cases and spread of hiv, etc, are all lower, per capita, than basically any other country. Turns out that when drugs are regulated but not criminalized, people self regulate to the point of not becoming physically dependent on their drug of choice. Like alchohol, tobacco, and caffienne, the amount of deaths associated with over use increase when it's use becomes criminalized.
Additionally to my finally:
The disease model of addiction is at best incomplete. Social models of addiction, that explore the reasons why a person self-regulates drug use when given the option, have always pointed to external stressors as being the nearly only determining factor in addiction. People who are allowed even 30 minutes outside in a natural space a day have a 60% reduction in problematic drug use. Please, think about what that means. What stressors affect your average chronic pain patient? How many? Why does race contribute to opiod addiction?
I will admit to trying to jump on to a joke, rather than writing a whole dissertation on medical choices and their application in anarchist theory. Old people should be allowed to take cocaine, teehee. Young people should be allowed to take cocaine too tho.
I think people over seventy years old should have unrestricted access to prescription painkillers. Not to take home or anything (they might get sold or stolen, although frankly I think pain meds should be less regulated in general and the fact that such a market exists for that is a sign that they're over-restricted in the first place) but like, they should be able to show up at the hospital and flash their ID and be like "morphine please" and have a nurse shoot them up then and there. Yes this is about my stepfather who had every health problem and finally became a tolerable human being after he was put on constant pain management medication but also if you're over 70 you know how your own body works and what pain feels like and frankly if you throw away your life to a painkiller addiction at that age (way less rare than the media would have you think, most "abusers" of painkillers are self-medicating *to manage their pain that they're not being prescribed enough medication for*) then all the more power to you.

all of the hamilton children for @thereallvrb0y
this post is my personal FUCK YOU to alexander hamilton for having so many kids. fucking whore. not eliza though, she's a miracle.
also apparently these historical figures are too obscure for my regular secondary sources, so i had to use peoplepill.com for like all of these, besides like. two. also @yr-obedt-cicero 's posts have helped so much i cannot thank you enough bestie
okay here we go
Philip Sr.
Philip Hamilton (the First) was born January 22, 1782 in Albany, New York. He was sent to Trenton Boarding School at nine, and later joined Colombia College. He went on to study law. Robert Troup described Philip as "a sad rake and I have serious doubts whether he would ever be an honour to his family or his country," which is tough talk for a guy who was gay for his dad. Other than this, people described him as having a lot of potential.
Apparently, he was one of Hamilton's favorites, if not the favorite. As the eldest, he was responsible for carrying on the family name, and was therefore the most "valuable". Hamilton was heavily strict on him, possibly because Philip had rebellious tendencies, but he was nevertheless a good student. I also wanted to include these two letters, this one from Alexander to Philip and this one from their dad to both Philip and Alexander Jr.
In 1797, Philip became deathly ill, but was cured by David Hosack.
After the whole political clusterfuck that was the year 1800, George Eacker decided that Alexander Hamilton was a piece of shit, and he was right, but Philip got pissed and called him a bitch, basically. Eacker insulted Philip and his friend in return and Philip challenged him to a duel because men never learn. Philip was fatally wounded in the duel, an Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to take this personally.
Alexander was so distraught by Philip's death that he had to be held up by two men at his funeral. He became much more religious after his death, and it's really the only part of his life that I think he genuinely believed in god.
Philip was buried in Trinity Church Cemetery with his parents.
Angelica <3
@yr-obedt-cicero made an amazing post on Angelica, which goes much more in detail than I will, as to not be redundant. thank you again <333
Angelica was born on September 25, 1784 in New York City. She was described as sensitive, lively, and fond of music and dance.
She studied French and practiced the harpsichord, which she was gifted by her aunt, Angelica Church. Her and her father would sing together as she played the harpsichord. They were very close and ow.
After her older brother's death, she entered a very poor mental state, described as "eternal childhood" and she couldn't recognize family members (this symptom could have just been after Hamilton's death, but sources vary), also speaking of Philip as if he was still alive. Her family dedicated a lot of time to her health, but her condition worsened, and she spent the rest of her life under the care of Dr. MacDonald.
She died on February 6, 1857 at the age of 72. She was buried at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, New York.
Alexander Jr.
Alexander Jr. (who I am going to call AJ bc it's easier and I think it's cute) was born on May 16, 1786. He attended a boarding school in Trenton at 8, then joined Philip studying with William Frazer.
Like his brother, he later attended Columbia College, and graduated in 1804, several weeks after his father's fatal duel. Sources also vary on this, with the St. Andrew's Society of New York (which AJ belonged to) he "did not graduate on account of an accident" so idk. Either way, he started to study law not long after.
He was invited to be an apprentice attorney in Stephen Higginson's Boston law firm, then was admitted to practice law.
He sailed to Spain in 1811 or 1812. He joined the Duke of Wellington's forces fighting Napoleon in Portugal. He returned to America to serve in the War of 1812. He was commissioned as Captain of the 41st Regiment of Infantry in the United States Army in August 1813, though doesn't appear to have seen active service. He went on to serve as an aide-de-camp to General Morgan Lewis in 1812 until June 15, 1815.
He resumed his law practice after his military career ended, and married Eliza P. Knox in 1817. He took office in July 1818 as a member of the 42nd New York State legislature for a one-year term.
In May 1822, James Monroe appointed AJ as United States Attorney for East Florida. As someone who lives in the East Florida parishes, I'm shitting my pants, we never get mentioned in history besides that one time. In 1823, he was appointed to be one of the three Land Commissioners for East Florida, and received the military rank of Colonel.
AJ ran unsuccessfully against Richard K. Call to be the Florida Territory's delegate in the House of Representatives. He returned to New York where he became successful in real estate, and was one of the leading names in Wall Street.
In the mid-1830s, Alexander Hamilton Jr. represented Eliza Jumel against Aaron Burr during their divorce proceedings, which were finalized in 1836 on the day of Burr's death. *copy and paste joke here*
In 1833, AJ used funds from his mother's sale of The Grange to buy the townhouse on St. Mark's Place, where he lived between 1833 and 1842 with his wife, mother, sister and brother-in-law.
He um. Met Abraham Lincoln???? in 1835 when he was on a trip to the west. Lincoln was an Illinois legislator and was apparently just in a grocery story "lying upon the counter in midday telling stories." ... GET HIM OFF THE COUNTER???? GET HIM OUT THE GROCERY STORE???????
Anyway... After the death of his wife, AJ moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey then to New York City. He died on August 2, 1875 at 83 Clinton Place, in Greenwich Village.
James Alexander (my detested)
Bitchbaby was born on April 14, 1788 and graduated from Colombia in 1805. He studied law with Nathaniel Pendleton (and the doctor that he knew).
Shithead was admitted to the bar in 1809 and practiced in Saratoga and Hudson. He married Mary Morris on October 17, 1810. And yes that is Morris as in Gouverneur Morris. They had five children, three of whom died before their father.
Apparently, he lived in extreme poverty in the early years of his legal practice.
"I now look back upon this event as not only the happiness, but the most fortunate occurrence of my long and eventful life. My poverty, with its burdens and responsibilities, nerved me to exertion, and necessity taught me the value of economy and self-denial." -James Alexander in his Reminisces.
He served in the War of 1812 as a brigade-major and inspector of the New York Militia, and relocated to New York City by June 1815.
He built a home in 1828 called Nevis because he's unoriginal. He also kept a portrait of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart, which was originally painted for his father in 1798, in his home.
"The Hamilton mansion was famous in New-York society 40 years ago, and has been the scene of many a distinguished gathering" -New York Times obituary, 1878
Okay, now its time for his love affair (/nsrs) with Andrew Jackson.
Fuckhead joined Jackson's ~entourage~ in Nashville and traveled to New Orleans in December 1827. He served on Jackson's "Appointing Council" after the 1828 election. He agreed to serve as Acting Secretary of State until Martin Van Buren assumed the post (March 4-April 4, 1829). He helped Jackson draft his Inaugural Address.
Slimeball was nominated by Jackson on April 23, 1829 as District Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Jackson told Shitpants he had wanted him "to always be at my command" and when Smartfeller returned to Washington, "I want you to be near me." This was, in historical terms, sussy.
He served as a confidante to Jackson while serving in this position, working on national and international matters, which wasn't in the job description. His 1869 (ha) memoirs is mostly his correspondence, including the discussions of the National Bank (._.) and the Nullification Crisis of 1832 (basically South Carolina disagreed with the government again and did too much).
As Pisspants was leaving for New York, Jackson told him to "Make as much money as you can" and he did by continuing his private practice AND serving as District Attorney, in true Hamilton fashion. He and his younger brother Philip were both involved in the trial of Charles Gibbs. Hamilton left in 1834 to return to his private practice, and now we don't need to talk about Shitty Diaper Andrew Jackson anymore.
He uh. Won the first America's Cup (previously the Royal Yacht Squadron Cup) in 1851. So that's. fun. Queen Victoria also congratulated him on winning so. I guess the Hamilton's just know everyone.
James and AJ served as vestrymen of the Zion Protestant Episcopal Church from 1843 to 1853, and got a little plaque in 1953 and all the years end in 3's. Both were members of the Board of Directors of the Association for the Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations - the Crystal Palace Exhibition in 1853 and that name gives me indigestion.
On March 6, 1862, James chaired and addressed a meeting at Cooper Union in favor of emancipation. And met fucking. Abraham. Lincoln. Lincoln also asked him to draft a proclamation, and when he returned, he had already issued the Emancipation Proclamation. So sux 2 suc.
James published his memoirs in 1868, which end in 1866, including his trips to Europe, the 1848 revolutions and the Civil War. He stated his intent to "do justice" to his father, and published several pamphlets defending him. (The Public Debt and the Public Credit of the United States and Martin Van Buren's Calumnies Repudiated: Hamilton's Conduct as Secretary of the Treasury Vindicated)
James Alexander died on September 24, 1878 at 90, and was buried at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, New York. His home was remodeled in 1889 by Stanford White. In 1934, it was donated to Columbia University where it now serves as one of the largest arboretums in the country.
JOHN CHURCH
Johnny C was born on August 22, 1792. He wrote a lot about his dad, and here’s one thing he wrote about the duel which literally stabs my heart out of my chest and rips it apart.
“I recall a single incident about it with full clearness... The day before the duel I was sitting in a room, when, at a slight noise, I turned around and saw my father in the doorway, standing silently there and looking at me with a most sweet and beautiful expression of countenance. It was full of tenderness, and without any of the business pre-occupation he sometimes had. ‘John,’ he said, when I had discovered him. ‘won’t you come and sleep with me to-night?’ His voice was frank as if he had been my brother instead of my father. That night I went to his bed, and in the morning very early he awakened me, and taking my hands in his palms all four hand extended, he said and told me to repeat the Lord’s Prayer. Seventy-five years have since passed over my head, and I have forgotten many things, but not that tender expression when he stood looking at me in the door nor the prayer we made together the morning before the duel. I do not so well recollect seeing him lie upon his deathbed, though I was there.”
In 1809, JC graduated from Colombia University and then studied law. He began serving in the army during the War of 1812, eventually becoming second lieutenant. He served as an aide-de-camp to Major General William Henry Harrison. However, he retired without seeing battle in June 1814.
According to his obituary, “He did not apply himself to the practice of law... having strong literary tastes, [Johnny C.] devoted himself to the study of history, with a view to writing his father’s life.”
Between 1834 and 1840, he went through his father’s letters and papers, and wrote a two-volume biography called The Life of Alexander Hamilton which was published in 1840-1841. Unfortunately, nearly all the copies were destroyed in a fire during the process of binding.
He edited his father’s collected writings under the authority of the Joint Library Committee of the United States Congress and took out the gay porn, publishing The Works of Alexander Hamilton: Containing his Correspondence, and His Political and Official Writings, Exclusive of the Federalist, Civil and Military in 1850-1851. He also wrote a seven volume biography, published between 1857 and 1869 called Life of Alexander Hamilton: A History of the Republic of the United States of America. This combined a biography of Hamilton and a history of the US “as traced in his writings and in those of his contemporaries”. He worked closely with his mother in the preservation of this history, and she encouraged him to write the comprehensive biography.
Also in 1869, he published an edition of The Federalist with historical notes and commentary, and I want it.
JC was a member of the Whig Party, later Republican, but never held office. He lost a run for Congress to represent part of NYC. Also, both Ulysses S. Grant and Chester A. Arthur asked him for his opinions on economics so that’s pretty rad.
In 1880, he presented a statue of Alexander Hamilton to the city “though preferring it were the act of others”. On November 22, 1880, at the unveiling in Central Park near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, he said that after a century of the nation’s existence, time had shown “the utility of [AH’s] public services and the lessons of polity” and that he trusted “that this memorial may aid in their being recalled and usefully appreciated.”
Throughout his life, John Church married Maria Eliza van den Heuvel, and together they had FOURTEEN CHILDREN. so here’s a list of their kids that I didn’t write lol.
General Alexander Hamilton (1815–1907), a major general in the Civil War, author of Dramas and Poems (1887).
Maria Williamson Hamilton (1817-1822), who died young
Charlotte Augusta Hamilton (1819–1896)
John Cornelius Adrian Hamilton (1820–1879)
Schuyler Hamilton (1822–1903), who served in the Mexican War
James Hamilton (1824-1825), who died young
Maria Eliza Hamilton (1825–1887), who married Judge Charles A. Peabody (1814–1901)
Charles Apthorp Hamilton (July 23, 1826 – November 29, 1901), was educated in New York, England, and Germany. After clerking for a New York law firm, he practiced law in Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry at the start of the Civil War in 1861, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. A severe battle injury to both legs compelled his resignation in March 1863, and he returned to practicing law. In 1881, he was elected judge of the circuit court for Milwaukee.
Robert P. Hamilton (1828–1891)
Adelaide Hamilton (1830–1915)
Elizabeth Hamilton (1831–1884), who first married Henry Wager Halleck in 1855 and after his death, married George Washington Cullum in 1875.
William Gaston Hamilton (1832–1913), a consulting engineer of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company
Laurens Hamilton (1834 – July 6, 1858), an 1854 graduate of Columbia College, who died at the age of 23. He had served for one year as a private in the Seventh Regiment of New York, and drowned accidentally while serving as part of a military escort aboard a ship returning the remains of President James Monroe to Richmond, Virginia.
Alice Hamilton (September 11, 1838 – September 15, 1905)
Shout out to Laurens Hamilton for accidentally drowning, really taking after his grandfather.
John Church died on July 24, 1882 at 89 Stockton Cottage, on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch, New Jersey due to jaundice and catarrh. His funeral was held at Trinity Church.
William Stephen Hamilton
For the sake of my own entertainment, I will be calling this man Stinky bc he probably smells like my dad (shout out to my dad for having the worst genetics). So Stinky was born on August 4, 1797. He entered the United States Military Academy in 1814, then resigned in 1817.
He moved to Illinois, living in Sangamon, Springfield and Peoria, then in 1827, moved to the lead mining region around the Fever River.
He was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives from Sangamon County in 1824. He sponsored a bill that imposed a statewide tax intended to fund road repair and maintenance, proportional to property value, to be paid in labor or money. The bill passed, but was met with opposition, and was repealed in the next legislature.
Stinky served as an aide-de-camp to Governor Edward Coles, and worked for the General Land Office as Deputy Surveyor of Public Lands. He was also an incorporator of the original Illinois and Michigan Canal Company.
In 1827, he served during the Winnebago War in the Illinois Militia as a captain. He commanded the Galena Mounted Volunteers under the command of Henry Dodge.
After the Winnebago War, he moved to the Wisconsin Territory and established Hamilton’s Diggings, later Wiota in 1827. It was later turned into a fort during the Black Hawk War, entitled Fort Hamilton. Juliette Kinzie described the conditions in 1831 as “shabby” and “unpromising.” She also described the foul language used by the miners, the “roughest-looking set of men i ever beheld.” Theodore Rodolf contrasted the settlement’s rough exterior with small, finer details in 1834. He particularly liked the fact that Stinky had the writings of Voltaire at Hamilton’s Diggings.
Elizabeth Hamilton visited her son at Hamilton’s Diggings during the winter of 1837-38. During this time, Stinky also owned the Mineral Point Miner’s Free Press, before he sold it to a group from Galena, and it became the Galena Democrat.
Stinky volunteered in the militia again during the 1832 Black Hawk War. He was often in charge of the militia’s indigenous allies, including many Sioux and Menominee. He was sent to the Michigan Territory to recruit more indigenous allies, leaving successfully with several more parties.
In 1842 and 43, Stinky served as an elected member of the Wisconsin Territorial Assembly, from Iowa County. He lost an 1843 election for Wisconsin Territory delegate to the US Congress. In 1848, he lost another election for the Wisconsin Constitutional Convention. He was generally unable to achieve political fame.
Gold was discovered in California in 1848, and Stinky was there by 49. However, this would prove a disappointment and he later regretted the move. He told a friend he would “rather have been hung in the ‘Lead Mines’ than to have lived in this miserable hole.” This seems to be an accurate description of California.
Stinky never married and presented a rough, garish appearance. Which, good. Fuck beauty standards.
Stinky was ill with dysentery and “mountain fever”, which was likely cholera, for two weeks before he died from “malarial fever resulting in spinal exhaustion terminating in paralysis superinduced by great bodily and mental strain.” He died in Sacramento, California on October 9, 1850 at 53, and was buried in Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, in a section named Hamilton Square. RIP Stinky, the real MVP.
Eliza Holly!
Eliza was born on November 20, 1799. You can tell her apart from her mother because Eliza is her full name, and Elizabeth is her mother’s. She was a sick infant, and Alexander frequently worried about her. He was staying with the children without Elizabeth once, and he wrote, “Eliza pouts and plays, and displays more and more her ample stock of Caprice.” Eliza did not attend Hamilton’s funeral, but saw him with the rest of the kids on his deathbed.
She married Sidney Augustus Holly on July 19, 1825. He was a merchant from a prominent family in business and local government. They lived at The Grange (not James Alexander’s), and remained close with Elizabeth for her entire life, who described Eliza as being like her father.
“You don’t know how important you are to me. You step in the steps of your father’s kindness, and the more you are with me, the more I see that you are like him.” -Elizabeth Hamilton to Eliza Holly
She moved in with Elizabeth in East Village, Manhattan at 4 St. Mark’s Place along with AJ and his wife.
Her husband died on June 26, 1842 and moved in with her mother to 63 Prince Street in Lower Manhattan. This was previously the house of jAmES mONrOe and Samuel L. Gouverneur.  She and her mother also moved together to Washington D.C. where they lived near the White House on H street and entertained many guests. Eliza continued to care for her mother until her death in 1854.
Eliza potentially influenced or expedited the creation of John Church’s biography of their father, and chastised him for his overdue writing.
Eliza died in Washington D.C. on October 17, 1859, and was buried in Westchester County, New York, at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery with Angelica and later James Alexander.
Philip Hamilton (the Second) “Little Phil”
Little Phil was born in New York on June 1 or 2 in 1802. According to his son, Phil “manifested much of his father’s sweetness and happy disposition, and was always notably considerate of the feelings of others, and was punctilious to a fault in his obligations.” He was also almost six feet tall. Idk how.
Because of the poverty that afflicted his family after his father’s death, Phil “was denied those advantages accorded to his elder brothers, and had, in every sense, to make his own way.”
Phil practiced law in New York, and served as an assistant United States Attorney during the 1830s under James Alexander. He achieved notable success as a prosecutor in the case of pirate Charles Gibbs.
Phil moved to San Francisco during the Gold Rush in 1851 to practice law as a partner of his brother-in-law Robert Milligan McLane. He returned to New York after one or two years.
He assisted the Underground Railroad in helping enslaved people escape at least once by concealing them in his cellar until they could resume their travel to Canada.
At the end of the Civil War, Hamilton served as Judge Advocate of the naval Retiring Board at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and “led a quiet life” after 1865. He characterized his career as a “hard, up-hill professional life” working with a “very great” number of the poor and most of his time was “given up to unselfish acts”.
He married Rebecca McLane, who died on April 1, 1893, and they had two sons together, Louis McLane Hamilton (1844-1868) and Allan McLane Hamilton FRSE (1848-1919).
Louis served in the US Army during the Civil War. He enlisted as a private in the 22nd New York Militia in June 1862, then the 3rd US Infantry as second lieutenant in September 1863. He served with the Army of the Potomac, and was brevetted twice fer gallantry, including the Battle of Gettysburg. In July 1866, he became a Captain in the 7th US Cavalry. On November 27, 1868, he was killed in the Battle of Washita River, being posthumously brevetted to the rank of Major.
Allan was a psychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His books included a biography of his grandfather, The Intimate Life of Alexander Hamilton.
Little Phil died “comparatively poor” on July 9, 1884 in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Engport Thoughts:
Warnings: this ain’t fancy sh/t ok it’s just the stuff I yell in my own head at 4 AM and its hella long too
I don’t really vibe with the view that engport’s power dynamic is skewed in Arthur’s favour, and that Port somehow loves Arthur more than Arthur loves him. Yes, Port has his moments of doubt, and yes, politically speaking for the past two centuries England’s been more powerful and relevant on the world stage. But nowadays they’re not that different, and while Port did harbour some serious resentment in the 1800-1900s because he felt that Arthur wasn’t treating him like an equal, in the century they spent apart I think he realized how much of that feeling came from his own self-hatred and fears rather than Arthur’s actions.
Like yes, there was the period after Napoleon where England controlled Port’s affairs for a while, and ofc there was the ultimatum — but is the ultimatums importance not sometimes overstated? Even for its time it was a pretty minor disagreement with little political fallout. To me, the ultimatum is only important as the last straw that broke the camel's back—since the decline of the Portuguese empire began, slowly at first and more noticeably after 1800, Ports own worries and anger and fear grew, often exacerbated by comparisons with England. Arthur noticed, but could do nothing about it; he couldn’t well have sacrificed British interests to assuage Ports nebulous feeling of inadequacy, and even if he had Port would only have seen it as pity. In fact Arthur didn’t know how to deal with it at all, so he said nothing. It’s that feeling when a friend or loved one says to you “I don’t deserve you” (as a way of saying “I’m not good enough”, not “you’re really great”) -- how is one supposed to respond? As a nation and a man Portugal needed to redefine the source of his own value, and that wasn’t something Arthur could do for him.
Of course Arthur may not have made this process any easier; in the best of times Arthur is about as good at communicating complex and tangled emotions as a sea cucumber, and when you add in the growing ambition of the British people and the daily European squabbles and power shifts, it all becomes a mess. I honestly think Arthur probably made the best choice available to him by not addressing it in the 19th century — if he had tried, his abrasiveness and Ports extreme sensitivity on this issue would surely have blown up their relationship sooner than 1890. To illustrate the point that this wasn’t a “Arthur treats Gabi as an inferior” issue, consider if England had briefly directed French policy like they did Portuguese after the Napoleonic Wars. Francis would of course start squawking up a storm, but I don’t think Francis would feel like him and Arthur were no longer equals. France in fact went through a similar experience as Portugal but hyperspeed from 1940-1950 where they had to confront going from Great Power to “stfu ur only on this council cuz the US is in a good mood.” But Arthur and Francis had a stable relationship during this time, because Francis’s identity and self worth (as a man, not a nation) is less rigid and based upon “providing for others” and “being Europe’s sole supply of shiny and yummy things” than Port's was.
So yeah, my point is that Arthur treated Gabi in the 1800s like he had always treated him — and even being extra careful not to aggravate his insecurities. It was Gabriel that felt more and more inadequate, irrelevant, powerless, so that when an issue comes along like the Pink Map; boom, you got urself a self-esteem issue bath bomb. Note that I’m talking about Artie and Gabi's personal interactions, NOT England’s diplomatic treatment of Portugal. Of course as states England recognized Portugal's diminishing relevance -- if they didn't, that would mean the English foreign office was bad at their job. And Gabriel was certainly intelligent and experienced enough to appreciate this distinction between interpersonal and international relationships, which is also why Gabi didn’t seek an argument with Arthur before 1890, either. He knew it wasn’t Arthur’s fault that he felt the way he did, but the humiliation of the ultimatum hit too close to home and he exploded anyways.
One last thought about their power dynamic: on an emotional level, I feel like Gabi has more cards to play than Arthur. Gabi holds so much sway over Arthur’s emotional well-being that I often think about how bad it could get if Gabriel chose to abuse that power. Arthur himself has so many insecurities and traumas that it would be so easy for Gabi, who knows him so well, to exploit them, especially when Arthur’s pretty much been hardwired after 9 centuries to trust Gabi. I think Arthur’s logic goes something like, if I can’t trust Gabriel than theres truly no one in this world I can rely on, which makes it, uh, really easy for Gabi to gaslight him. Like, if he just said “no one will ever love you but me,” Artie would believe that shit. He’d be on guard if it came from anyone else, but if Gabi says it mf would f/in internalize it. “If you leave me you’ll be alone,” “no one can forgive you for what you’ve done, but I will,” “if you died no one will give a shit but me.” These are all things Arthur half believes already, so it’d be a piece of cake for someone as astute as Gabriel to push him over the edge (@needcake has a great fic here about dark!engport which explores this abuse of trust). I think Port is actually very aware of this and goes out of his way to avoid saying things like that, precisely because he knows how fragile Arthur’s mental health is and how much he needs to trust Gabi. Sometimes this can be a burden on Port, too, which results in him softening his stance or giving in when he should draw a clearer line because he’s scared he’ll aggravate Arthur's insecurities.
TLDR; PORT'S PROBLEMS ARE NOT ALL MADE IN ENGLAND, PORTUGAL HAS ITS OWN DOMESTIC INDUSTRY FOR MANUFACTURING ISSUES™, and they’re actually very soft on each other and careful with each other’s feelings. They’re trying so hard, but history doesn’t give out medals for effort.

Oh Disneyland Paris sounds fun yeah! Were you and your roommate already close then? I went to Walt Disney's world with my aunt and cousin when I was like 11 but it would've been way more fun if I could've taken my best friend with me for sure. Maybe we can go to the one in Paris now that she lives just 3h away from me! Oh I see, sounds like LA was really fun for you yeah! your roommate didn't mind third wheeling tho? Hahaha
Yeah Canada is beautiful but what I liked about it the most was the massive improvement in quality of life I had compared to where I was living before and just being able to be who I am and people accepting me for it. Not being worried about violence 24/7 felt pretty fucking great too. So yeah I highly recommend living there if you ever get a chance. But I am loving Portugal so far, people are a bit more judgemental here tho but I like that it's easier to travel to a lot of countries I've always wanted to go to. Everywhere you go there are pros and cons tho so sorting out priorities is key. But Toronto is my favourite of all the places I've been, before living there for a year I had already been two times!
Jesus 50 states, sometimes I forget how big the US is. And you can totally do it if you plan it out! After watching Bly Manor tho I really want to go to Vermont especially during autumn season looks really pretty! There's this fic I love (only the sun by prestonarchives) where Dani and Jamie go on a road trip from Vermont to Maine and I did their entire journey on Google maps street view bc I was so obsessed with this one chapter fanfic I had to immerse myself entirety in it hahaha. So now I want to go there irl. Here's the link if you haven't read it before!
https://bit.ly/3BLy4WR
Omg I totally remember reading that on CBML and being a bit confused bc I was like why would she think you can't see the moon from the great wall of China HAHAHA but I thought it was really funny and endearing yeah it's even funnier now that I know you said it irl haha.
Oh so ENFP-T means extraverted, intuitive, feeling and prospecting personality with a bit of turbulence. Which just means you're curious, perceptive, enthusiastic, an excellent communicator, festive and good-natured. On the other hand you can be disorganized, unfucosed, a people pleaser, overcommitted, too optimistic and restless.
I wonder what Jamies and Danis mbti are as well as their zodiac signs 🤔 I think Jamie might be an ISTP-A bc she's definitely an introvert, very practical, stubborn, assertive, layed back and energetic at the same time. And Dani is either an ENFP-T like you or an ESFJ-T with the whole selfless thing going on.
AE already made it canon that Jamie's an aries (and it makes sense) but I can't figure Dani out. I've thought about her being a leo ♌ bc she's generous, passionate, warm-harted and dominant in her own way and THE HAIR haha. But she's got some pisces ♓ vibes going on too...idk. aaand I'm back at it again with the astrology signs haha.
To be fair your recent drunken exp it was dark and at least you didn't think the road sign was a bear or something (don't know what kind of wild animals you've got over there) that you wrestled with and ended up in a ditch and your best friend let you believe that happened for 3 years up until recently haha. 😂 but yeah some things happen for a reason, having life threatening health issues doesn't sound great tho, but I guess it's a good thing it stops you from drinking too much and making dumb decisions. And hey maybe I secretly want that to happen again idk maybe moving countries is not exciting enough, I have to go out and make a complete drunken fool out of myself in a completely foreign place hahaha. I guess that did kinda happen last month when my best friend came to visit me from Spain and we got drunk on wine, I got lost on the way back home and it was way past curfew. 🤔 shit I'm 29 will I ever learn...
Episode 9 is 😢😍🥰😰😭🤬☠️ just the worst roller-coaster I didn't even know I was on. Haha I was more pissed off than heartbroken the first time I watched it ngl.
Well then maybe the way you do accents is friendly and funny so people can't really get mad at you haha. Like Dani! Oh so that's called a Geordie accent! I see, it's really really cool. AE said Jamie is from Lancashire but that's a whole county isn't it? Idk if there's a specific accent to this region. Knowing you speak kinda like Jamie is something else tho, I think if anyone who spoke like her ever talked to me irl I wouldn't be able to pay attention to what they were saying 😂 just the accent haha.
Oh so you already have 4k something words for it nice. I'm kinda starting to feel an obsession with this medieval AU growing in me, I made a Pinterest board just for it ngl hahaha but I'm still resisting creating anything for it, I did a face study yesterday for Dani and Jamie to see if I finally pick up the idea and just do it but my brain was still like "I don't want to do this rn" and was just being a little bitch about it so I'll just let it cook for longer see if we can reach an agreement eventually (if ever) haha.
Glad to hear you had a good weekend! Even if it left you feeling exhausted in the end. And yeah it makes sense for you to say you don't have favourites haha! Have a great week Colour, take care! 👋✨
Yeah me and my roommate have been friends since we were like 14 so when we went to Disney Land we asked if we could be roomed together because we've been best friends for that long now... been best friends since school and now we live together. She's seen me at my best, my worst, has seen me in all my stages in life and has been there for a lot of the rough stuff I've been through and I've been there for all the stuff she's been through!! Nah she didn't mind at all we had some moments where me and my ex would just go and be a couple and have dates but my ex didn't want me travelling that far alone so invited my roommate too because she didn't like the thought of me flying 11hours alone or being in airports alone so my roommate came with me and we had a great time Awwh good I'm glad it was such a nice place and that you didn't worry about violence all the time but I'm so sorry you ever had to worry about that anyway that can't be easy. I would honestly love to live in Canada I really hope I get chance one day... I'm glad you're loving Portugal but sorry people are judgemental there but I am glad it's easy for you to travel around to other places... oh yeah every place has it's pros and cons I mean England has some pros but it sure has a lot of cons too so I know all about that Yeah America is SO big but I do want to get around all 50 states at some point and I am stubborn enough and determined enough to make it happen eventually even if I don't get around them all until I'm like 70 I'll make it happen haha!! No I haven't read that fic but it sounds amazing so I'll definitely check it out thank you for sending me the link Yeah... that really happened to me and it was just a dumb moment where I had this momentary lapse of knowledge in my brain and now I look back at that question and I'm just like... "you idiot" and this is why people are shocked when I get questions in quizzes right because I have said some really dumb stuff but I'm glad people found it funny and endearing... and I'm glad it makes it better to know I really said that haha Oooo I didn't know that, I like that and I think it's definitely fitting for me!! I think from what you've said about what ENFP-T means Dani could easily be that too and I don't know anything about the other one but I will take your word for it matching Dani because you know way more about this stuff than I do. I have no idea for Jamie though. And with zodiac signs I love that Amelia looked at Jamie and thought she was an Aries, as for Dani I have NO idea what her zodiac would be... in CBML she's a Leo but in MoU with what I have planned for her birthday she'd be a virgo but I don't know anything about zodiacs... all I know is all the pieces I've ever met have been the opposite of what Dani is so maybe that has something to do with their whole charts but I know a lot of other people always make her a Pieces and I trust what other people say about zodiacs more than what I know about them because I really know NOTHING about them haha Nah I knew it was a road sign because of how heavy and hard it was- nah we have no bears where I live... I don't think we have many dangerous animals where I live... got a couple of badgers that can be pretty aggressive but that's about it we don't have much that is scary here or at least not in the little part of England I live. Having life threatening health issues has been hard and since having my spleen removed in January (that was the surgery I needed to try and fix the issue I had) things are even harder now because I have to take antibiotics for the rest of my life to stop me getting any infections because if I ever get a chest infection now or a really bad cold it can be really dangerous but I take it all in my stride and not drinking is just a way to make sure the antibiotics actually work properly and to make sure nothing happens to me... and like you said, means I don't do anything dumb too... haha drunken stories are the best I have been lost a few times when I've been drunk... and I don't think you do learn, I have siblings that are
like 40 and still do dumb shit... I know at 27 I am still doing dumb shit too I don't think I'll ever learn haha 😂 Its such an emotional roller coaster and honestly I was just devastated the first time I watched it... no TV show or movie has ever made me cry the way Bly Manor did when I first saw it and it still makes me cry now. I can cry just thinking about that last episode. I definitely mean it in a friendly way so I hope it comes across like that. Yeah the accent in Billy Elliot is a Geordie accent and its my favourite accent there are other accents around the north that are called different things. Yeah Lancashire is a county and again in Lancashire there are loads of different accents I can't really pinpoint Jamie's down to a city I just know it's Northern. I'm from Yorkshire but don't have a strong Yorkshire accent I just have a Northern accent, like people never believe I'm from the place I'm from because I don't sound like I am but you can definitely tell I'm northern... honestly there are so many accents in England... you can drive for two hours in any direction in England and the accent will change like two times at least it's insane... see a lot of people say that but I am not a HUGE fan of the northern accent and I think it's because I grew up there. I much prefer Dani's accent to Jamie's but like I said to me, Jamie just talks normal there is no accent really haha Yeah 4k words for it but it's all jumbled up it's not like a chronological story yet it's just all over the place haha but I hope I can get it all structured properly soon!! Awwh good I'm glad you're already interested in this medieval AU!! That makes sense you're resisting creating for it but I think it's so cool you did a face study for Dani and Jamie even if you didn't wanna finish it I think letting things cook for a while is always a good idea if you're not in the right headspace right away I had such a good weekend but I am so tired and today I had a busy day too celebrating my roommate's boyfriend's birthday so I've had so many days that have been so busy and right now I am just really to sleep haha!! Yeah definitely don't have favourites but I have spent more time with one of my nieces than the others simply because I always look after her if her mum and dad are working and I'm not... like until I start this new job I am looking after her for an hour every day after school while she waits for her mum and dad to finish work but I don't have favourites haha!! Thank you so much I hope you had a great weekend and that you have a great week too!!

We Voted for Murderers
Tumblr media
65.2%.
That’s the percentage of people who voted for the Conservative candidate in my constituency, and I feel completely heartbroken. See, things have properly gone to shit.
If we’re talking numbers?
Local councils estimate the number of people sleeping rough on any given night between 2010 and 2018 has risen from 1,768 to 4,677, a 165% increase. The Trussell Trust, the UK’s largest food bank charity, has reported a 5,146% increase in emergency food parcels being distributed since 2008. An 8% cut in spending per school pupil since 2009. Funding from central government to local government cut by 60% in that same period. £37 billion less spent on working-age social security compared to over a decade ago by 2020. A 90% fall in the number of social homes being built since 2010. A £7,300,000 decrease in funding for women’s shelters between 2011 and 2017. Don’t even get me started on the government’s treatment of the NHS.
I’ve heard stories of individuals applying for PIP due to mental illness being berated about suicide attempts and the likelihood of another as part of a “formal interview” process to see whether they qualify. People collapsing in job centre queues, freezing to death on the streets and the elderly in their homes, suicides whilst on never ending mental healthcare waiting lists. In fact, 17,000 sick and/or disabled individuals have died whilst waiting for PIP payments to come through, and in total, UCL researchers have linked 120,000 deaths to austerity (I’m not going to comment on the irony of my former university that’s notoriously lacklustre when it comes to giving a fuck about the wellbeing of its students publishing this unless...I just did?). 8 years of negligent homicide of the most vulnerable people in our society under the Conservative government and we voted them back in.
So I ask, are people really stupid enough to believe that the politicians responsible for this mess are the ones who are going to fix it just because they make a few characteristically empty promises on TV or does the British public at large really give even less of a fuck about other people than I thought? As in actually not give a fuck about people dying?
I have to tell myself it’s the former. The press’ treatment of Jeremy Corbyn and Labour was scathing.
Corbyn, a man who has stood by the same principles of fairness, justice, and equality, for the entirety of his career, was criticised by the likes of The Sun, The Daily Mail, and The Telegraph, for being indecisive and a threat to this country whilst Boris Johnson, a man who can barely string a sentence together when he is asked to give a straight answer to something and blocked the release of a report covering Russian interference in British politics, was held up as the one people should put their faith in.
I know, the press are never going to be completely neutral. But shouldn’t they at least be committed to integrity? And the truth? Isn’t that the WHOLE FUCKING POINT of journalism? I’ve been hearing the phrase “post-truth world” thrown around a lot and it’s probably an indication of my privilege that it was only with this election that I properly understood what that meant; it was found by the NGO First Draft just 2 days before the election, damage way past the point of done, that 88% of the Conservative Party’s Facebook ads (compared to 0% of Labour’s ads) contained misleading information. The repercussions were non-existent. After Boris Johnson’s claim that Jeremy Corbyn wanted to raise corporation and income tax to the highest levels in Europe was publicised, only Channel 4′s Factcheck website published the actual statistics (France, Belgium, Portugal and Greece all have much higher corporation tax rates than Labour’s proposal). Similarly, in many constituencies, the Lib Dems were posting fliers where Labour candidates were, in the previous election, the runner ups to the Conservative candidate, claiming that it was instead THEIR party’s candidate who had the highest chance of unseating the latter. Days before the election, the headline of one of Britain’s most highly circulated papers claimed that a Corbyn government would plunge us into a crisis the likes of which “we haven’t seen the Second World War”, which is kind of wild considering that 130,000 preventable deaths have been linked to austerity under the Conservative government compared to 70,000 civilian deaths in said war. Not that either is good, obviously, and I can’t believe I have to point that out. But then, right-wingers did paint Jeremy Corbyn as a monster for passing up watching the Queen’s Christmas Day speech to volunteer at a homeless shelter, so I thought I’d just cover my back, y’know.
Shouldn’t there be standards that the media is held to? You know, like not making slanderous statements about some politicians that have no actual basis in fact whilst brushing over the statements of others. Whilst the PM’s father Stanley Johnson was on nation television calling the public illiterate, and Jacob Rees-Mogg was blaming the Grenfell victims deaths on their “lack of common sense”, and Michael Gove was stating that people who needed to use food banks had brought it on themselves because they were not “best able to manage their finances”, it was Jeremy Corbyn who was being called an enemy of the people, accused of trying to plunge us into a “Marxist hell”...I mean, if Denmark and Norway and Finland with some of the highest living standards in the world are “Marxist hell”s  then sure, that’s what he’s doing. But that’s a hell I’m sure a lot of people would find much comfier than a freezing cold pavement. Before Labour had even released their (fully-costed!) manifesto, barefaced lies were being published about how much it would cost and how it would plunge us into trillions of pounds worth of debt, as if it hasn’t increased from £1 trillion to £1.8 trillion in the years since David Cameron took office. Meanwhile, when Labour did publish their manifesto and the Financial Times published a letter signed by 163 prominent economists and academics backing their spending plans? Crickets. Nothing sums it up better than the debate around Jeremy Corbyn’s alleged anti-semitism, discussed ad-nauseam whilst Boris Johnson’s actual racism, islamophobia, misogyny and classism, RIGHT OUT OF THE HORSE’S MOUTH, was completely ignored by most news outlets.
You know what, maybe people earning £85k just DON’T want to pay an extra £3 in tax a week to make sure children get an education. Maybe everybody IS just as selfish as that one twat on Question Time who got all red in the face over the prospect of having to give up an amount less than the cost of a tub of Ben and Jerrys a week. But if that’s true, this isn’t a country I want to live in at all, or a planet I want to live on, really. I hope it’s not. I hope it’s a case of a need for some kind of collective realisation that the Sun ain’t shit. Merseyside did it. The younger generation are catching on. And look at the results there.
Labour probably couldn’t fulfil ALL of their promises. No political party is perfect. I was told again and again how unrealistic those promises were as if that was enough to make me go ”oh...I guess I’ll vote for 4 more years of people dying in the streets instead”. Yes, in an ideal world, the entire manifesto would be made a reality, but it depended on far too many rich people being good and honest. Let’s be real-the elite will always find a way to avoid paying their fare share on the premise that they “earned it”, as if anybody earns billions by sheer hard work alone and past a certain point, not off other people’s backs. As if there aren’t nurses and teachers and firemen and other public sector workers who don’t put in just as much energy and as many hours and emotional labour as CEOs and business owners and investors. But the point is that Labour under Jeremy Corbyn acknowledged this, and their manifesto aimed to give the power back to the average person, from the vulnerable to the supposedly middle class still struggling to make ends meet, and give them the quality of life they deserve. It was built on the simple premise that the people should use their government, not the other way round, and that everybody deserves the basic human rights of shelter, nutrition, safety and dignity, regardless of their fortune in life. However many of Labour’s policies would actually have been fulfilled, it would’ve been a shift in the right direction.
Now the election’s been and gone and I’m scared. Already, the narrative is being rewritten by the billionaires in control of this country that a manifesto like the one we saw this year will never sit right with this country, when it is what so many desperately need. The people putting this information out there know the truth: that Labour’s membership trebled in size under Corbyn (more people voted for him than for any Labour leader since Tony Blair), that most of the safe labour seats were lost because of Brexit, and that if the manifesto had been represented accurately, there’s a good chance that Boris Johnson would no longer be our Prime Minister. I’m scared a person like Jeremy Corbyn will never front Labour again.
Because I do not want a tory painted red who’s friends with Jacob Rees-Mogg behind the scenes, I do not want a war criminal who thinks that bombing innocent people is ever acceptable, I do not want a person who doesn’t see people of colour as part of the working class and indulges in the occasional bit of TERF-ism.
Already, the Conservative party are backpedaling on the few promises they made to increase NHS spending, and I am scared. I am scared for myself, in the event that I need urgent mental health care again, and I am scared for those less privileged than me who don’t have a family to support them, who don't have a roof over their head, who weren’t fortunate enough to be born in a country with relative economic and political stability, who cannot physically go out and work to earn a living. I am worried about the bigots that this election has already emboldened, the Katie Hopkins and the Tommy Robinsons of the world, who think the things that blind luck have graced them with they somehow earned, who pride themselves on ignorance and cruelty and selfishness.
So for now, what can we do?
Join trade unions. Organise. Write to your MPs. Bring attention to those who are vulnerable. Be vocal with your criticism of the establishment. Call out those in politics for an ego-trip hiding behind “personality”. Do your research. Keep an eye on the numbers. The “it doesn’t matter who you vote for, just vote” sentiment is old, because it does. No “as a feminist, I exercise my right to vote for whoever I want”, because as a feminist, you should care about ALL women, not just the white, middle class, able-bodied ones.
And if anyone has any more suggestions, let me know. Because I am sick and tired of living under a government who doesn’t give a fuck about the people it’s supposed to protect.

Hey. If you’re feeling suicidal or you think you might hurt yourself, please consider calling one of these numbers or IM/text a chat service. Reach out to the people who love you. Hell, talk to me. I’m not a therapist or mental health professional but I’ll do my best. You are wanted here. You are loved.
If you have the spoons, check in on the people you care about.

Years ago, I had a series of continuous dreams wherein Anthony Bourdain and I were carrying on an affair. We would meet in small out of the way hotels and have pho afterwards. (There was always a pho place within walking distance, no matter what city we were in.) Over food, we would talk, and we would give each other shit, but I never felt condescended to for being younger or having less life experience. I still see nothing that contradicts this elaborate construction of my subconscious.
So you know how when you think back, you can see the turns in your path that would have lead to a completely different life and person? There’s a me that went all-in on the goth thing, and is hopefully partnered with somebody like Taliesin Jaffe. There’s also a me who fought hard to go to the fancy private liberal arts college in town, and probably became one of those people who theoretically believes in structural racism but thinks Black Lives Matter protests are tacky. (I bet she married a doctor or corporate lawyer or something and is quietly dying inside but doesn’t really understand what’s wrong.) I know for sure she did not read Kitchen Confidential.
Some things become part of you, so deep it’s like a tree growing around a bike. It is inconceivable it was not something you were born with, because it’s been so long since you were without. The sensibilities that Bourdain helped instill in me are some of those things. I watched a truly staggering amount of early Food Network, and it was mostly people standing behind kitchen sets with gleaming sheet pans narrating the process. But A Cook’s Tour? This fucker was going out into the world, digging into the influences that affect something as intimate as what you put in your body. The food as lens, but also as stimulus for conversation, sharing. Discussion of but not limited to: geopolitics, history, oppression, atrocity.
I think a lot about the episodes of Parts Unknown where bad shit happens or has happened: Beirut, Palestine, pretty much all of Africa and most of southeast Asia. And I also think about how this is probably the only exposure a casual (as in, not actively seeking these things out) Western audience gets to a native of these countries talking about their history and culture, that is facilitated through an empathetic, sympathetic source. And that’s really fucked up.
Nico said it better than I can so I’m just going to quote him:
Was going to talk about how much I value Bourdain's love and respect for the Philippines, our people, and our food, & now I've seen already this morning the same sentiment from people re: Gaza, Iran, Portugal, China, Ethiopia, Egypt, & on & on. He loved us and loved to know us.
The most radical and human thing Anthony Bourdain did was to go to places we have been told are Other, to be feared or exoticized. Mind, this does not necessarily mean to other countries  (the West Virginia episode, for example), but it can. And then he went, “Hey. We’re not all that different. We want the same things. Now let’s get some tasty food and drink and talk about that.” And it should not be revolutionary to do such a thing, and it pains me so much that it still is.
I’m not going to say that Anthony Bourdain is solely responsible for my interest and curiosity about food and travel, because that’s silly. I would have always had some level of interest in both, although I do not think it would be this specific kind. I am thankful I am a kinder, more empathetic and thoughtful person because of him, and I hope I can pass some of that influence on to others.
