Declan emitted a low sound, lips grazing hers languidly at the end of her gratitude. He didn't need her thanks this time, but he appreciated knowing for certain that she appreciated his choice. Even if it was less of a choice and more of an... instinct. It was always like this. When Declan decided to dedicate himself to another, it was no small thing, which was exactly why he was so hesitant to enter into those kinds of engagements. Cora was a... fluke. Outside of his ex wife, he hadn't moved this fast... ever.

Declan's lips were about to deliver yet another kiss, his mind ready to get to where he had intended on spending this time, when she spoke again, and this time he drew back, his features unreadable as he looked at her, waiting for her to elaborate. When she did, he only gave a quiet nod to indicate he'd understood her question. Her attempt at humour was discarded as though he hadn't even heard it.

Declan drew back further, letting go of her to scratch at the stubble of his jaw almost absentmindedly, his attention elsewhere for a moment. It wasn't unlike the questions Marcus had asked him, nor unlike the questions he was sure to receive if he chose let her be his plus one at any of the countless events he attended during an average year. And yet, despite Declan's usual eloquence, the depth of his self-awareness, the analytical nature of his mind, he had no straightforward answer; at least not one he was ready or willing to share at this point.

So after a while, he sighed, looking at her once more with a small smile. "That's a longer conversation. And not one we're going to have tonight." Then he placed a kiss to her forehead. "For now, let it be enough that I want you., kitten." He drew back again. "Out of - apparently - anyone." He turned halfway, clearly done with this conversation - so much so, that he was also done with the room. "Let's go get settled in the kitchen." He extended a hand in her direction, waiting for her to take it before moving any further. It would seem the offer of an orgasm on his tongue was no longer on the table.

"I'll do my best to remember that." She wasn't always the best at asking for what she wanted or needed, so it was going to take effort to try to do. She shivered as his fingers pressed into her hair, all too aware of all of him, her stomach twisting with want and need and it took real control not to grab him and kiss him. It would, after all, be so much easier to show him how she felt than say it.

But then he was moving her head, dropping light kisses on her lips, saying absolutely perfect things that had her heart stuttering a little. "Thank you." It was sincere appreciation, her voice soft and low. Because, even if there was still much to learn about him, Cora knew she trusted him, so if he said it, he meant it.

Still, there was one more piece that she couldn't work out, the biggest unknown for her. "But why?" This wasn't an attempt to be self-deprecating. Cora knew she was smart, knew she was beautiful, knew she was fun. But to her, he was mythic. And for the life of her, she couldn't work out why he would be interested enough to be so involved with her.

"I mean... I'm not trying to be disrespectful, and I'm certainly not complaining." Again, she wasn't foolish, she was just so painfully curious, just needed to know how things functioned. "But I... I feel like I'm... I think I test your patience more than you care for, and we're very different people, so I can't exactly tell what the draw is? When it seems like you could have anyone?" Then, a gentle attempt at humor, "I swear, I think that's my last question until dinner. Maybe."
