What do you think of xuexiao or songxuexiao?
I get why people deeply want to explore it, but I only enjoy XueX!ao in the context of what we are given in the book and highly messed up as it is. I don't think Xiao Xingchen had anything other than disgust once he realized who Xue Yang was as a person, without that mask. Have no interest in S-ngX!ao side of things because I just saw it as platonic in it's issuance and just am not vested in whatever chemistry is there. And I definitely have no interest in any fandom poly ships, not my thing outside of a friend I share OCs with.
I am mostly "it's there in fandom" with a lot of other big MXTX ships.

God bless you for saying you ship songxue and xuexiao. Those ships are so messed up in the best ways. I adore them. Do you ship songxuexiao as a trio?
i like the different dynamics within sxx and i like them getting together as duo-couples within different periods of time, but i dont really do poly or OT3s :') i do love all three combinations of them though! each brings very different dynamic to explore, i like the variety

VICTORY IS MINE
I just soliloquized about Xue Yang to my mom for like twenty minutes, and...
Mom: “I thought he was just playing XXC the whole time. Wow. I see. When you look at it like that... Did it go both ways? Did XXC care about him too? It’s sad. He was happy. It's so domestic. He would have just gone on living there with him indefinitely.”
Me:
finally!
#and then a discussion of if XXC liked SL or XY better#me: someone can get remarried#I told my mom about the boat-everyone-drowns response of Song Jiyang#and now I think she's drifting towards a love triangle-slash-poly ship and I wish I'd kept my mouth shut#xue yang#song lan#xiao xingchen#xuexiao#the parental units watch cql

Bro! BRO! 100%
I loved Yi City. We were robbed of that blissful found family domestic life. IF ONLY XUE YANG WOULD CHILL!!! He could have just enjoyed his time with Xiao Xingchen without making him kill people!
I definitely would have liked to read more about their life in those 3 years. I want to know if Xue Yang can cook, and if he'd cook for Xingchen. And more than anything I still want to know how the fuck they got their money. Cause Xingchen doesn't take money for his night hunts, and he could only be fooled so many times with stolen money from A-Qing before he realizes it. I want Xue Yang helping to brush Xingchen's hair. Just give me the fluffy happy family content before everything went to the shitter 😭😭😭.
My (likely) unpopular opnions on Mo Dao Zu Shi.
So I finished the novel, and I'll be only talking about the novel and the novel alone, not taking into consideration any of the other iterations, simply because I didn't finish any of them. This is also just my opinion and because I can't keep my thoughts to myself, so try to not take it too seriously.
!ALSO HAS SPOILERS!
1- Jin Guangyao is my favourite and I love him, I don't care what anyone has to say. I believe almost everything he said in the Guanyin temple, maybe aside from whether his child was conceived before or after he married Qin Su. But I'm inclined to believe him on that too rather than to doubt, because he really didn't seem like he liked causing harm unless he saw it as strictly necessary.
2- That said, that's mostly just going by the book. Idk how canon we're supposed to take the extras to be, but if they're indeed meant to be canon, the extra by the name of "Villainous Friend" kind of makes my love for him waver a bit. But I understand his position, he was ordered by his dad, so refusing or leaving the job half done would probably be bad for him. But dude... He could have spared some mercy for the children (but maybe that'd be a bad idea, having living proof that a grudge fuels insanity and bloodlust sitting right beside him in the form of Xue Yang. So he probably did it as insurance).
3- I still love him tho. And I still love XiYao and want a lot of fix-it fics now :((
4- Jin Guanshan died the death he deserved and A-Yao was 100% right to do it. Everyone that was like "but he was your father" in the novel can go suck a dick cause it's easy judging when you're not in his position. That goes for everything he does actually.
5- I was a bit confused about Xue Yang's end? Like did he die or not? Cause it seemed like he just lost his arm and was a bit hurt and then was swept away. If he didn't die what happened to him? We never get a follow up on that. Did I read it wrong or did he really just got yeeted out of the story never to be seen again? Idk seemed a bit weird.
5.5- I also love Yi City arc, but it makes me a bit confused on what was the point of it? It seems like it could have been skipped entirely and not much would have changed.
6- I'm not entirely sure that Wei Wuxian was actually gay or even bi for LWJ in his first life. You can boo me all you want, but I don't think there's enough information to draw a conclusion here. He could have just been really determined to bother Lan Wangji and make friends with him just because he posed a challenge, given he got rejected all the time. It wasn't really too different from his behaviour with MianMian. Just saying, reincarnation could have very well made him sort of gay, or well gayER.
7- Zizhen didn't have enough scenes, he should have appeared more and have been on those night hunts in the extras.
8- Talking about the juniors, I know a lot of people ship Jin Ling with Sizhui, and a lot of people ship Sizhui and Jinyi, and then Jinyi with Jin Ling. I say we forgo that and just throw my boy Zizhen in the mix and make them all date together. A couple of four. This way everyone gets 3 cute boyfriends. No need to choose.
9- Some of y'all be acting like the incense burner chapters killed your dog and shot your parents. Chill out. They're intense and not everyone's cup of tea, but in their essence there's nothing really wrong with them. It's clearly just two married people who trust each other pushing the bounds of their fantasies and kinks IN THEIR FUCKING DREAMS! And it isn't like they aren't both into what they're doing. Wei Wuxian is more than enthusiastic. There is like one little mishap that happens at the end of the last chapter, a matter of miscommunication and kink-negotiation mishandling, but it's solved right after it happens! Calling it true non-con is a stretch and a bit unforgiving don't you think?
10- I still don't get why Yanli was at Nightless City. She had abstained from pretty much being part of anything like that the whole book. Why all of a sudden go to Nightless City? What could she have done there? Seems a bit convenient.
11- Talking about convenient, what was that throw away line on the explanation of how Wei Wuxian started cultivating the demonic path? He just found a book???? Conveniently like that? No further explanation needed? What?
12- Nie Minjue was a self-righteous hypocritical asshole.
13- Nie Huaisang is not that much better than Jin Guangyao. He used people and did terrible things, even willing to sacrifice teenagers, just to achieve his goal.
14- There is no justice in this book. Not really. Everyone does selfish things (maybe aside from Lan Xichen, the saint) to achieve their own goals and always think themselves to be justified in their actions. To only see Jin Guangyao's crimes as bad is to ignore that everyone did bad, selfish, detrimental things. The people that got a happy ending or a bad ending didn't get them because they deserved it or due to justice. They just got it. Like Xue Yang says "there's no why, sometimes things just happen".
15- Chengmei is far too cute of a name for Xue Yang.
16- Everyone shits on Jin Guangyao, but he was legitimately a good chief cultivator. While the sects generally saw themselves as above helping on insignificant matters, he went and made projects to help the common people. He also worked hard to maintain his sect in line with an ideal of nobleness and discipline as shown by how Jin Ling says in the extras that when he was sect leader no one would be so quick to take a bribe.
17- A-Yao was ambitious, clever, hard working and yes he did love people too. He's not just bad. He had all the odds stacked against him, and even so, at least momentarily, he overcame all of it. Whether his means were justified or not is another story entirely.
18- Wei Wuxian wasn't really a great caretaker of A-Yuan. He was kind of mean and careless. He obviously didn't do it with ill intention, but he's just not the best baby sitter.
19- I don't hate Jiang Cheng for his mean remarks and hatred for Wei Wuxian and his relationship with Lan Wangji. He's just kind of stupid and emotionally constipated. He's not bad, he's just a bit ignorant. And you have to remember that these are their society's norms. He's acting in line with what he was taught.
20- Wen Qing had such a minor role in the story overall. She should have been used more.
21- Wei Wuxian is many times kind of mean to Wen Ning even tho he's so selfless and doing everything he can to protect and respect him. I don't mean it all the time, but he could be kinder to him. Wen Ning in general always gets the short end of the stick and the worse treatment undeservedly.
22- Gusu Lan could have held a little secret cerimony to officially marry wangxian and officially accepted them as cultivation partners. It would have been specially meaningful because Lan Qiren would have sort of being communicating that his Nephew's happiness holds more value to him than his hatred for Wei Wuxian and the upkeeping of sect rules and appearances. I know it's unrealistic but man it would've been nice to see.
That's it. And yea I know this is mostly me just trying to defend my A-Yao, but I regret nothing. Y'all can throw stones and boo, be my guest. This is just my opinion anyway, so you don't have to take it seriously or give a crap about it.

Red Azalea - the story so far
Here’s a recap of the events from Red Azalea so far, split by narrative arc. By the time the fic is finished, i think it could be neatly turned into three books, which i would call Red Azalea, Golden Ribbon, and Jade Charm (working title).
We’re getting close to halfway through the story i want to tell. It’s hard to tell exactly how long the fic will be in wordcount because i’m writing as i go, but i think the finished thing will be under 500k. Seems like a lot for one fic! But its not too bad for a trilogy.
So for the story arcs, I’ve split them by like moments where plot direction changes, and places where there is a plotpoint resolution of some kind. There’s a bit of overlap between arcs, but this is how I’d split it.
(the rest under a readmore because it gets long, also spoilers ahead)
Red Azalea
Daozhang went red arc | chapters 1 to 11, 20k
Xue Yang saves Xiao Xingchen. They argue, Xingchen calls Xue yang disgusting, tells Xue Yang not to touch him, and forbids Xue Yang from using his name.
Xue yang removes the nails from Song Lan’s head to make Xingchen happy again, and Xiao Xingchen lets Xue Yang run free.
Xue Yang steals the red azalea silk, and decides to try being good
Xue Yang helps the ghost child in the well
Xue Yang gets frustrated and bored while hunting alone. He chooses between giving up on being good and returning to Jin Guangyao to be his weapon, or keeping up the good behaviour and returning to Xiao Xingchen
Xuexiao reconciliation arc | chapters 12 to 23, 26k
Xingchen and Xue Yang reunite. Song Lan fights Xue yang on a rooftop. Xue yang escapes into the shadows, then meets a child ghost under a house. Xingchen and Song Lan design a tap code for communicating during fights and from a distance.
Xue Yang helps Xingchen through a panic attack, they talk about if they can return to being friends. Xingchen learns how many people Xue yang tricked him into killing. Xingchen reveals he can’t hunt the undead anymore because it triggers him.
Xue Yang builds a shrine for the ghost child under the house. A-Qing sneaks in and sees it.
Xue Yang stalks Xingchen’s group for a bit, then trades a spar with Xingchen for two months of no stalking. Xingchen gets a cut on his arm, the blood triggers Xue Yang, and Xingchen hugs him to calm him, getting rid of the No-Touch rule.
A-Qing is attacked by a man in the market, Xue Yang appears out of nowhere, stabs the man through his hand, and takes A-Qing somewhere safe. She feels a little unsafe near him, but relaxes as he helps treat her dislocated shoulder. He gifts her a knife.
Xingchen heals the man’s damaged hand while Xue Yang fantasises about murdering the man’s family. Xue Yang meets with Xingchen and the group, and Xingchen tells him that they’ll potentially be friends again one day. They hug.
Song Lan grows resentful arc | chapters 24 to 35, 36k
Xue Yang and Song Lan reflect on their love for Xingchen and their hate for each other.
Excited Xue Yang surprise teleports Xingchen to share lunch together, and unintentionally terrifies him. Xue Yang comforts him, and gives him a charm to help Song lan hide from detection by other cultivators. Xingchen returns to Song lan for more comfort, and shows him the charm.
Xue Yang goes on a side adventure, escorting a family with young children through bandit-infested hills. He bonds with the kids, then at the new town, helps two incompetent bandits track down their missing wife and mother. She is fine, she ran away with a rival bandit leader. When Xue yang leaves, she seems to be considering a poly relationship with Bandit Boss and her new-to-crime husband.
Xue Yang is chased out of a town after a hunt that went poorly, and flies for three days to find Xingchen to rant about it to him. Xingchen listens and comforts him, and lets Xue Yang sleep in his lap
Song Lan sees xuexiao sharing intimacy and feels hurt and jealous. Xue Yang is woken up by feeling Song Lan’s emotional pain through his undead empathy. Xingchen coaxes him back to sleep, and Song lan wonders if it is Xingchen in control of Xue Yang, instead of Xue Yang manipulating Xingchen
Xue Yang asks to travel with them, Song Lan hates the idea, A-Qing takes the blame for not wanting Xue Yang around, but Song Lan doesn’t let her. Song Lan and Xingchen get in an argument, and A-Qing is upset by the fight. Xue Yang leaves so they won’t argue anymore, hoping this helps A-Qing feel better
Xue Yang hears that Xingchen was in a bad hunt, and tracks him down to comfort him. Song lan feels useless and terrible when his efforts to comfort Xingchen don’t work, but Xue Yang’s attempts work.
Song lan is overwhelmed by resentful energy and loses control, trying to attack them. Xue Yang fights him and carefully brings Song Lan’s energy back to balance, allowing him to regain control. Song Lan is surprised to find he enjoys the fight
The four of them spend time together bonding. Xingchen allows Xue Yang to use his name again, but he still can’t travel with them. Xue yang leaves, confident that Xingchen is pining for him.
Song Lan and Xingchen talk about Song Lan’s trauma around Xue Yang, and how Xingchen’s insistence that they be friendly hurts Song Lan over and over. Xingchen promises to be more considerate of him in the future.
Orchid Cliffs arc | chapters 36 to 61, 57k
Xue Yang realises Xingchen’s group are heading to a conflict with a demonic cultivator and runs to save them. He mocks them for being the worst team to ever face a demonic cultivator, because xingchen can’t fight the undead and Song Lan is vulnerable to being turned into a slave puppet. Xue Yang challenges Song Lan to a fight to prove this.
At Xingchen’s request, Xue Yang begins experimenting with a mental shield to protect Song Lan from being controlled by enemies. The shield gives Song Lan unexpected access to Xue Yang’s thoughts. Song lan keeps this a secret to keep an advantage over Xue Yang, and they go to Orchid Cliffs. A-Qing and Xingchen promise to stay away for safety
On the road to Orchid Cliffs, Xue Yang is sidetracked by a group of ghost children and builds them a roadside shrine. Song Lan is unsettled by how bloody Xue Yang’s everyday thoughts are, and how Xue Yang is always prepared to be attacked.
Xue yang flies around the countryside finding corpses and recruiting them to help him fight the mysterious demonic cultivator. One of them is an undead bride and her entourage.
Xue Yang and Song Lan don’t find anything the first night in Orchid Cliffs, and talk to locals for info, discovering that the heiress of the rich Zhen family and several others are mysteriously sick. Xue Yang tracks the flow of resentful energy within the town to one house and they confront Yan Ling, the woman living there. Meanwhile, Xingchen and A-Qing spend a day fishing, then go to helps Jiao Chan restore the wards on her house.
Xue Yang reveals himself to be a demonic cultivator, and Song Lan his undead servant, to gain Yan Ling’s trust. She tries to poison Xue Yang twice, then Jiao Chan arrives carrying Xingchen’s sword. She uses a cursed mirror to put Xue Yang in a magical coma, and attempts to take control of Song Lan. Song Lan plays along, and takes Xue Yang to safety.
Once the women are gone, Song Lan tries to wake Xue Yang, who has been trapped in his own worst memories. Song Lan dives into Xue Yang’s mind to pull him out, and catches glimpses of Xue Yang’s most traumatising memories. When Xue Yang wakes, he lashes out. He’s physically weakened by the poison and the mirror, and feels vulnerable around Song Lan, but they resolve to team up to save Xingchen and A-Qing.
Xingchen and A-Qing have had their qi blocked and are being kept in a house of corpse puppets in the woods. Xingchen feels terrified and borderline catatonic, but he fights the corpses to let A-Qing escape. While running, she finds Jiao Chan and Yan Ling walking through the woods and decides to hunt them for hurting Xingchen.
Xue Yang is too weakened to fly, so Song Lan carries him. They briefly stop to collect some of the walking corpses Xue Yang recruited, then head for the forest house. Xue Yang nearly falls asleep in Song Lan’s arms, and Song Lan startles him awake by half-dropping him from the sky.
At the forest house, Jiao Chan is about to use the mirror on Xingchen, who is having a panic attack and can’t defend himself. Xue Yang and Song Lan arrive, instantly attacking the women. They use a dozen walking corpses to defend themselves. Song Lan and Xue Yang defend each other
When the moon comes out, the mirror reaches full power and they nearly take control of Song Lan, but he shakes it before he harms anyone. Xue Yang confronts the women about the mirror being a cursed evil tool. A-Qing throws a rock to distract Jiao Chan, and Xue Yang takes control of her puppets for a second, restoring their free will. They all turn on her and attack. Xingchen asks Xue Yang to show them mercy, so he tries to stop the attack, then passes out and loses control of them. Yan Ling and Jiao Chan are killed by the corpses of their victims.
After the battle, Song Lan helps unblock Xingchen’s qi, and finally learns that Xue Yang gave his life to revive Xingchen from the cut to his neck. Song Lan is finally satisfied that Xue Yang is no danger to Xingchen
They spend several weeks recovering. Song Lan and Xue Yang destroy the mirror together. Xue Yang mentally declares Song Lan his friend despite knowing Song Lan hates him, Song Lan overhears the thought and feels confused and alarmed. They discover Jiao Chan was actually the missing Zhen heiress, and her experiments creating the mirror had caused the mysterious sickness. None of the victims can be saved
A-Qing feels guilty for her part in Jiao Chan and Yan Ling’s death. Xue Yang attempts to comfort her, and reveals that he killed three people before he was age 15, so he knows she’s not a killer.
Song Lan tells Xingchen he’s okay with Xue Yang travelling with them, and Xue Yang is delighted by this news, but still has to honor his promises to the corpse puppets who helped him, especially the undead bride. This involves going to Lanling, which Xue Yang thinks is too risky for Song Lan and Xingchen. They part ways, and promise to meet up after the promise is fulfilled.
Golden Ribbon
Xue Yang in Lanling mini-arc | chapters 62 to 65, 9k
Xue Yang contemplates how much of a danger Jin Guangyao is to Xingchen and Song Lan, then heads for the undead bride’s village. Her family reward him with new silks and a room to stay each winter
Xue yang jerks off to a fantasy about a cultivator dressed in white and a cultivator dressed in black having sex, based on a dirty illustrated wangxian book Xue Yang has.
Later that day, he encounters Lan Wangji and some Lan juniors on a hunt and decides to follow them. Xue Yang works out that something is killing all the most vulnerable children in town and confronts Lan Wangji, telling him off for bringing more children to such a dangerous place. Lan Wangji reveals he recognises Xue Yang and warns him against doing evil things
Xue Yang decides he can’t leave the hunt to Lan Wangji. He saves young Lan Sizhui and Lan Jingyi from a giant centipede and mortally wounds the monster. He heals a bite wound on Lan Sizhui’s arm by transferring it to himself. Together with Lan Wangji, Xue Yang tracks and kills the centipede, and they discover it was created as a plot to get rid of the street children. Enraged, Xue Yang leaves the punishment for this crime to Lan Wangji because he doesn’t trust himself not to kill the perpetrator.
Lan Wangji gifts Xue Yang with gold, supplies, Lan flares and a Lan practice sword as thanks for saving his juniors
Meanwhile, A-Qing confesses to Song Lan that she feels guilty over the deaths of Yan Ling and Jiao Chan. He comforts her.
QingMing at Baixue Temple arc | chapters 66 to 85
Xingchen confesses to Song Lan that he still feels unstable from being retraumatised by Jiao Chan and Yan Ling. The group visit a town for a festival. A-Qing has fun with some random teens and songxiao have some bonding time and dance together. Song Lan fantasises about kissing Xingchen
Xue Yang tracks them down in the middle of the night. He has a broken leg and is acting loopy and childish, and doesn’t recognise Song Lan, calling him Ghost-gege. Song Lan wakes Xingchen to get his help healing Xue Yang, but Xue Yang doesn’t recognise Xingchen either. He finds Xingchen scary and Song Lan comforting. Together, songxiao manage to treat Xue Yang’s wounds
Song lan muses about his feelings for Xue Yang. His duty to Baixue demands Xue Yang’s death, but his duty to Xingchen demands he protect Xue Yang, pluse Song Lan’s first instincts are to help and comfort Xue Yang. He decides he can excuse himself for doing this, since being kind to someone who needs help complies with the teachings of Baixue Temple
When Xue Yang wakes the next morning, he assumes he traded something to Song Lan for safety. Song Lan denies this, but Xue Yang won’t let it go, and eventually concludes Song Lan wants sex. Song Lan can read from Xue Yang’s thoughts that Xue Yang carries a lot of trauma around sex, and outright rejects him. Xue Yang feels vulnerable and lashes out, hurting Song Lan by bringing up Baixue. Song Lan leaves
Xingchen and A-Qing return, and Xue yang gives them gifts. White water silks for Xingchen, and a sword for A-Qing. She’s delighted by this and runs off to show Song Lan. Xue Yang asks Xingchen what he sees in Song Lan, and Xingchen tells him how much he admires Song Lan.
Song Lan saves A-Qing from a nosy villager who thinks she shouldn’t have a sword, then they go train. When they return, Xue Yang brings up QingMing as a poor attempt at apology to Song Lan, giving him the space to grieve Baixue. Once Xue Yang’s leg has healed a little more, they start travelling to Baixue
Song Lan decides to ignore when Xue Yang does annoying things, and Xue Yang is irritated at being ignored. Song Lan refuses to let Xue Yang close to Baixue, which Xue Yang accepts, but Xingchen argues about. After fighting over it, Xue Yang decides to leave and meet them after QingMing
On arrival at Baixue, Xingchen is suddenly horrified that he tried to argue to let Xue Yang, Baixue’s murderer, onto the grounds. Song Lan talks to the graves of his family about his past year, and makes a resolution to help Xue Yang be a good person
Meanwhile, Xue Yang is thinking about a Jin boy he met shortly after joining Lanling Jin’s trainee class. The Jin boy was kind, and Xue Yang kept the golden ribbon the boy gave him all these years. After thinking about this, Xue Yang decides Song Lan is just as good a person as Xingchen, and resolves to make Song Lan want to keep him too.
No-Touch Rule arc | Chapters 77 to 85
When Xue Yang reunites with the group, Xingchen flinches away from touching him, and brings back the No-Touch rule. Xue Yang takes it badly, but is convinced its necessary for now.
Xue Yang gifts Song Lan fancy tea, and later a black pebble. Song Lan appreciates the tea, but doesn’t understand the pebble
Xue Yang and A-Qing bond over insults, and Xue Yang suggests she come on a hunt with them. A-Qing does alright on the hunt, but Xingchen ends up triggered by the walking corpses they fight. Xingchen screams at Xue Yang and attacks him, telling him to get lost. Song Lan and A-Qing comfort Xingchen
Xue Yang sneaks back in the middle of the night to check on Xingchen. Song Lan convinces him to stay until morning. Xingchen and Xue Yang talk about Xingchen’s trauma, and how he needs space from Xue yang
The longer the No-Touch rule remains, the moodier Xue Yang gets. He lashes out at A-Qing and she calls him out on this being unfair, and tells him that apologies with words are necessary between friends. He can’t just hurt them then offer something nice to make up for it, he has to control himself
Xue Yang gets worse. He’s badly touch-starved and desperately clinging to any coping mechanism that might work, including getting drunk, binge eating candies, getting in fights, and having casual sex with strangers. His companions notice something is wrong but no one is sure what’s causing it and they’re all irritated by his behaviour
Xue Yang explodes and threatens to kidnap Xingchen, but calms when Song Lan catches and holds him. Just being held by someome he trusts grounds Xue Yang and makes him feel very safe, and after so long without it, the feeling overwhelms him. He falls asleep in Song Lan’s arms.
Late that night, Xue Yang wakes when Song Lan finally releases him and goes to cleanse himself. At first Xue Yang is offended by the implication that Song Lan finds touching him unclean, but Xingchen and Song Lan explain that Song lan is mysophobic and this reaction isn’t anything to do with Xue Yang specifically
Xue Yang, Song Lan, Xingchen and A-Qing all sit down to talk. Xingchen and Xue Yang come to a new agreement about touching that suits both of their needs. Xue Yang admits that he doesn’t feel regret over tricking Xingchen into murder, which hurts Xingchen, but Xue Yang says that he’s changed as a person since then and would never do anything like it again to Xingchen. A-Qing and Song Lan help moderate the discussion when it gets emotional
A few weeks later, Xue Yang and Xingchen have another discussion about regret. By Xingchen’s definition, Xue yang does feel regret for his actions, but by Xue Yang’s definition, the word doesn’t fit. Xingchen decides this mismatch is what was causing them both strife. Xingchen and Xue Yang reafirm their dedication to each other
Group Bonding mini-arc | Chapters 86 to 89
Xue Yang declares that Song Lan should learn some demonic cultivation, and that learning some could benefit A-Qing and Xingchen too. Song Lan finds this highly offensive considering how Baixue Temple was slaughtered. Xue Yang argues that Song Lan is undead, so particularly vulnerable to regular cultivation and manipulation by demonic cultivators. Xingchen and A-qing eventually concede that it would be useful for first aid purposes, but Song Lan is unconvinced that he should learn any.
Song Lan and Xingchen bond over Xingchen’s passion for cheesy adventure novels, but are upset when Xue Yang complains about hearing Song Lan’s voice in his head. Xue Yang attempts to smooth things over by acting as a translator for Song Lan, but Xingchen rebuffs his efforts. Later, Xue Yang reveals that he’s making plans to give Song Lan a true voice again
Song Lan and Xue Yang spar for fun. Xue Yang wins by cheating, then helps clean the mud from Song Lan’s face. They’re both very comfortable being physically close together. Xue Yang gives Song Lan fancy soaps as a gift
Xingchen wakes with morning wood and runs off to find somewhere private to jerk off. His fantasies include both Xue Yang and Song Lan, and lack a lot of detail about how sex works, instead leaning towards more general romantic feelings for both men.
A-Qing suspects Xue Yang wants to be her teacher because he keeps trying to casually teach her stuff, this time focusing on how to manipulate other’s perceptions. Xue Yang proves his skills by dressing up as an old man. While he’s busy getting in disguise, A-Qing points out to Song Lan and Xingchen that Xue Yang almost never outright asks for anything he wants, they have to read between the lines with him.
Snowstorm mini-arc | Chapters 90 to 92
The group arrive at the town Melody Springs right as a snowstorm blows into town. Xingchen and Song Lan go door to door to make sure all the locals are prepared to endure the storm. A-Qing stays to help out at the inn which has been converted into a shelter. Xue Yang secretly goes out to rescue any homeless people caught in the storm, and saves a few.
It becomes clear the storm is unnatural. Bodies are freezing far too quickly and a barrier is trapping everyone in town. The group reunite at the inn and make a plan to hunt down whoever is causing the storm and stop them. Before they leave they ward the building, then Xue Yang, Xingchen and Song lan all go out to hunt, leaving A-Qing to protect the inn and maintain the wards.
There is banging at the doors of the inn. A-Qing prevents the townfolk from opening the doors for the person on the other side, reasoning that she can sense the person is a ghost. This saves them all from a grim fate of being frozen.
The cause of the snowstorm is a ghost who died in a snowstorm decades before. She can freeze with a touch, and nearly kills Xingchen, but Song Lan knocks him out of the way of her attack and gets frozen instead. Xue Yang eventually subdues the ghost by talking to her.
Xue Yang and Xingchen get in an argument about Xue Yang using ghosts as weapons but are distracted by Song Lan collapsing. He’s been partially frozen and needs help defrosting. Xue Yang tells Xingchen it hurts that Xingchen always assumes the worst of him. Xingchen promises to be more thoughtful in the future.
Returning to the inn, Xingchen volunteers to help the injured. Song Lan and Xue Yang have a short talk about how attractive Xingchen is, and how Xue Yang is uncomfortable with the idea of having sex with him. Song Lan finds this confusing, because across the mind bond he can tell Xue Yang is in love with Xingchen.
Xingchen and the others work through the night to help people. Xingchen and Song Lan stand together in the snow after all the chaos and watch the sun rise together.
Time Flies Fast arc | Chapters 93 to 99
In the middle of winter, Xue Yang and Xingchen have a deep chat about how Xue Yang misses his old life as an assassin and misses his old friend even if that friend tried to have him killed. He feels out of place doing good stuff. Xingchen says as long as Xue Yang doesn’t kill or harm anyone, he doesn’t need to jump in to help people like Xingchen does, it’s okay.
In the spring, Xue Yang approaches Song Lan with a prototype charm to give him a voice. The charm unfortunately doesn’t work, but Xue Yang and Song Lan bond together, and admit they no longer hate each other.
They return to Baixue Town for QingMing. Song Lan is recognised by several locals, who are all happy a Baixue Temple member escaped the slaughter. Song Lan feels uncomfortable around them out of guilt that he didn’t save the Temple.
Song Lan has been sharing a bed with Xue Yang and Xingchen. He doesn’t sleep, he meditates beside them. Xingchen and Xue Yang snuggle and Xue Yang loves it. Song Lan can feel Xue Yang’s pleasure at the closeness across their mind bond, and enjoys feeling Xue Yang’s joy.
Xue Yang is very anxious at being left behind while the others visit Baixue Temple, but he comforts himself with the golden ribbon and red azalea silk, and reunites with them happily after a few days.
In late spring/early summer, the group find a town on fire and jump in to help. Song Lan and Xue Yang team up to fight the flames, while Xingchen runs into a burning building to save a woman and ends up nearly dying himself. Escaping the flames, he is immediately approached by a daifu who berates him for his recklessness. Xingchen convinces her to let him help her treat the injured. Meanwhile, Xue Yang uses the snow ghost to summon a snowstorm, that turns to a rainstorm and stops the fire
Yuchen-daifu sees Xingchen crying blood a few days later and immediately springs into action to help with his “qi deviation” but soon finds that Xingchen hasn’t been caring properly for the delicate flesh of his empty eyes, and thats why he cries blood. She says she’ll find a way to help
Xingchen wants to be Yuchen-daifu’s student, so the group settle in for a long stay. A-Qing makes some friends in town, Xue Yang nests, Song Lan befriends two aunties who take him to tea and check up on him. Xue Yang is frustrated at the lack of hunts, so Song Lan suggests he start sparring with A-Qing to teach her
In the middle of summer, the group go to cool off in the river. A-Qing disappears with her friends. Song Lan reads a book. Xue Yang and Xingchen play in the water, and then lounge together on the bank, skin still wet. Song Lan finds the view arousing, which is shocking and confusing because he hasn’t felt arousal since he died. He runs off to take care of his problem, fantasising about Xingchen, and a little about Xue Yang.
Meanwhile, Xue Yang tells Xingchen that Song Lan finds them attractive. Xingchen perks up and wants to know more, Xue Yang says he should ask Song Lan directly.

Least favorite part of getting into a new fandom is figuring out what to do with ships and figuring out where the lines are and everything else. I am all for poly ships, but when it comes to the case of the MDZS crew, besides wangxian I have no idea what I'm doing
This rant is mostly inspired by xuexiao, where I try to figure out how to untangle the tangled earbuds that is Nie Mingjue/Lan Xichen/Jin Guangyao/Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen/Song Lan
LIKE they DEFINETLY aren't one big poly relationship, but where is the time difference between them? By that I mean who is with who WHEN? I don't have a grasp on the timeline yet BUT I KNOW Mingjue and Xichen were a thing, Xichen definitely had feelings for Guangyao at some point, I cannot be convinced otherwise with Guangyao and Xue Yang has SOME SORT OF intimacy that goes beyond your average friendship, and then Xue Yang with his slow burn tragic love story with Xingchen, and do I really have to give an explanation for Xingchen and Song Lan???
Help how do I navigate the timeline
#mdzs#the Untamed#lan xichen#nie mingjue#jin guangyao#meng yao#xue yang#xiao xingchen#song lan#gideon's post#like girl please help what order is it and how do XXC and SL even get separated in the first place i think i missed that part

hiii, do you write for xue yang? if yes, could you do some poly!xuexiao headcanons or scenario? whatever its easier to you! maybe with a little angst since xue yang is a hard person. even if you say no, thank you so much for your attention and for your writing, I love what you do 💞
UWU, you made my entire week, thank you so muchhh ❤️❤️❤️ you warmed my heart! Of course, I write for best boy XY~ Honestly, I write for nearly all characters. I picked headcanons, because there is- a LOT to talk about when it comes to poly XueYao and your girl is living for that adventure! I tried making it as angsty as possible, but my THIRST for a happy ending is so strong- I apologise for the delay in answering (life decided to life a bit more these past few days) and I hope you enjoy my take on the relationship~
P.S I might have gone a tad overboard-
I'm changing the canon quite a bit, because XueXiao need happiness and you are that happiness. XXC doesn't know Xue Yang's name until they meet post-blindness, Song Lan doesn't appear until MUCH later and ofc you're there lol.
You know that trope of the angel and the devil on your shoulder? That's your relationship with Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen in short.
It all started when you met Xiao Xingchen during one of his many travels. He was so kind and sweet, understanding and compassionate. You were very fond of his company. Likewise, you didn't underestimate him, you listened to him, you were intelligent, funny, caring, responsible and he quickly found himself drawn to you.
So, it was no surprise when he expressed a certain interest in you. And it was even less of a surprise when you returned his feelings. And life was great.
But then, Xue Yang came into the picture and hit both of you in the hearts like Cupid's arrow. Discovering him on the side of the road was both the best and worst thing that had ever happened to you.
At first, both of you denied your attraction to him, but with every passing day, it grew more and more. The three of you'd spend nearly every second of the day together. The boy was handsome, funny and had a certain aura of...danger to him - one you found to be very charming in it's own way. Xiao Xingchen, too, had a growing fondness for Xue Yang's quick wit and rough play.
Nobody really suggested a poly relationship, it just kind of happened. One day you just grabbed both of their hands and they went with it.
Now, the dynamic between the two of them is much too entertaining. XXC is much more careful and caring, worrying and doting over both you and XY, showering both of you in love and affection. Xue Yang, on the other hand, is much more rough, mischievous and daring. They are the epitome of "good cop bad cop."
It is the most noticeable when you want to do something more dangerous or risky, be it joining a night hunt or anything else that could potentially end with you getting hurt. The response is always Xue Yang's immediate "Hell yes. Count me in" vs Xiao Xingchen's "No wait, what if you get hurt, just be careful."
While Xiao Xingchen is all sweet caresses, gentle hugs and forehead kisses, Xue Yang much prefers hidden inappropriate touches, especially in public, bites and playful smacks. He could endure a bit of scolding from Xiao Xingchen.
They wouldn't necessarily fight over you, but Xue Yang is much more needy when it comes to affection and it shows. God forbid it's just you and Xiao Xingchen without him. He'd be quick to join in, seemingly casually butting into the conversation, but you'd know better. He's lacked affection as a child and you know it, so his touch-starved nature is far from surprising.
Sharing a bed is an adventure. One sleeps unmoving, barely breathing, like a corpse, while the other - kicks and turns. Not a lot, but enough to be noticeable. Xiao Xingchen is the one who is turns, surprisingly. And of course, you're sandwiched in the middle of it all. Let me tell you, it's all fun and games, until summer rolls around. Sharing a bed in winter is a blessing, but the scorching heat of the summer days has made for some pretty interesting solutions. But nobody refuses to sleep away from the other two. You just HAVE to be bundled up together.
Xue Yang, despite being the self-proclaimed scoundrel of the relationship, is actually the most overly protective of the three of you. Underneath that seemingly devil-may-care attitude of his is a ticking time bomb of emotions ready to explode whenever somebody dares to so much as look at either you or XXC the wrong way.
"So what if he's blind! It's a blessing he doesn't have to witness your ugly damn face."
"Touch her. I dare you. I may not have a pinky, but you won't have a- " cue both of you dragging him far far far away from the situation.
But with life, as life goes, things are never black or white. And amidst the genuine love you three had for each other, trouble was bound to arise eventually.
Xue Yang never truly changed. How could he? The damage was already done. He may have found life with you and Xiao Xingchen to be pleasantly mundane and calm, but something kept weighing him down. And he decided, that it must have been Xiao Xingchen himself - the walking reminder of his past pain and his thirst for vengeance.
Imagine waking up one night, only to see Xue Yang standing next to the bed, staring at Xiao Xingchen holding... something in hand. It was too dark to tell. Upon noticing you're awake, he quickly turns around and leaves the room. And after a few long minutes, you feel the bed bext to you dip down with his weight. "Sleep." he'd mumble, before wrapping an arm around your waist. But somehow - it felt different.
And somehow you get that gut feeling, that perhaps you shouldn't leave Xiao Xingchen alone with Xue Yang. Perhaps you should be there at all times. Perhaps you were just imagining things, but you could swear something was rather off with your dear lover.
And then a fight happened. Now fighting was far from unusual, but this one escalated. It was over something minor, yet Xue Yang was much too hostile. There was a dangerous glint in his eyes - something you were used to, but this time your subconsciousness was screaming for you to run.
"It was you wasn't it?" Xiao Xingchen's gentle-as-ever voice rang, cutting through the unbearable tension, "Baixue Temple, Yueyang Chang Sect, it was you wasn't it, Xue Yang?"
And Xue Yang would just laugh and laugh. "I am glad you didn't forget me, dear Daozhang." And through a wicked smile, he'd tell his story of the missing pinky, sparing none of the gruesome details. And you'd realize, that all this time you'd been sharing your bed, your food...your love and relationship with a madman.
But that didn't make you want him any less. Not after so much time together. Not after falling in love. The situation was much more dire for Xiao Xingchen. He'd fallen utterly in love with the one who'd-
Yet he loved him so much. You loved him so much. And God, did it hurt, because through that fake smile of his, Xue Yang was fighting with himself. He didn't want his heaven to disappear. You - his wonderful candy, and his precious Daozhang were the cure for boredom he'd needed, the compassion he'd seeked for as a child, the understanding and caring he longed for.
And he wasn't ready to let go.
He'd try to attack, but it would be futile. Deep down Xue Yang knew, that he didn't want to hurt either of you. You never looked down on him, you never took advantage of him, you never stopped caring. And when Xiao Xingchen moved in front of you to protect you, yet took away his sword, instead opening his arms, Xue Yang realised, that perhaps for the very first (and only) time - violence and death weren't the only paths to walk on.
And perhaps, with time he'd learn how to properly love. And both Xiao Xingchen and you would be by his side, leading him and showing him what love is.
Perhaps, this relationship was worth fighting for.

4. Nsfw/lemons/limes is allowed
5. You can also request head cannons, reactions and preferences.
6. I accept poly relationships (for example you can request WangXian x Reader or XueXiao x Reader)
7. I do accept love triangles (even though I'm terrible at writing it, they are very fun to write)
8. Please do not ask for canon ships, as it is an x reader blog (unless it’s a poly relationship with the reader involved).

Can i pick your brain with songxuexiao?
Stirring the pot as usual, I see.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and give the likely unpopular opinion that I do not ship them. I see the appeal--XXC gets his perfect(ish) “soulmate” + there’s the fun, edgy aspect with Xue Yang + the tension between Song Lan and Xue Yang.
I just don’t generally go for poly ships. I have a hard time shipping Xue Yang with anyone other than XXC. XXC I can see with either SL or XY (obviously I prefer xuexiao but I have written songxiao), so it really depends on how the ship is done. Is he in the middle between Song Lan and Xue Yang (that I can totally see if done well, but I don’t see Xue Yang sharing, and again I don’t gravitate towards poly ships). Are Xue Yang and Song Lan “together” within the thruple? (I really don’t see that ship at all; that being said I can see why it can be fun to speculate.)
tl;dr I’m a xuexiao purist or a post-xuexiao songxiao purist.
Send me a ship! Crack, you name it
#ask tag#that being said a good fic can make ship something I don't go for within the confines of the fic's little world#I've only read one short songxue/xiao fic#I just really like XY only liking XXC okay?#XXC I see as having been chastely involved with SL before the Eyeball Maneuver#but SL blew it#(not that I blame SL! he reacted like a normal human being)#SL still has feelings for XXC#but XXC has moved on#do I see XY as XXC's soulmate?#I don't really go for soulmates#but he brings something to the table nobody ever has for XXC#if you're going with the traditional soulmate trope I'd have to say SL potentially#I haven't written enough songxiao to really flesh that idea out#xuexiao#ship ask
