🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
Pollock: It is common in the north-eastern parts of the Northern Atlantic, including the Bay of Biscay and North Sea. Pollock are fast-growing and relatively short-lived. The maximum reported age is 15 years. They are said to spawn offshore, although their spawning grounds are poorly known; a study of a fjord population in Norway suggested local spawning. Pollack are benthopelagic, that is, they live near the sea floor. They seem to be relatively sedentary.

Jackson Pollock, The Moon Woman, 1942
Oil on canvas, 175.2×109.3cm.
Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice.
Like other members of the New York School, Jackson Pollock was influenced in his early work by Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso, and seized on the Surrealists’ concept of the unconscious as the source of art. In the late 1930s Pollock introduced imagery based on totemic or mythic figures, ideographic signs, and ritualistic events. The Moon Woman recalls Picasso, particularly in its palette and composition. The subject of the moon woman, which Pollock treated in several drawings and paintings of the early 1940s, could have been available to him from various sources. At this time many artists, among them Pollock’s friends William Baziotes and Robert Motherwell, were influenced by the fugitive, hallucinatory imagery of Charles Baudelaire and the French Symbolists. In his prose poem “Favors of the Moon” Baudelaire addresses the “image of the fearful goddess, the fateful godmother, the poisonous nurse of all the moonstruck of the world.” Although it is possible that Pollock knew the poem, it is likelier that he was affected in a more general way by the interest in Baudelaire and the Symbolists that was pervasive during the period. Creamy Pollock and Leek Pasta
This simple Creamy Pollock and Leek Pasta transforms leftover Lemon and Garden Herb Baked Pollock on Leeks into a tasty lunch, both light and indulgent! Happy Tuesday!
Ingredients (serves 2):
2 cups short whole-wheat pasta (such as fusilli or penne)
1 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon
about 2 cups leftover Lemon and Garden Herb Baked Pollock and Leeks (bones removed)
3/4 cup crème fraîche or sour cream
1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
Cook whole-wheat fusilli in a medium pot of salted boiling water according to package's directions, generally 9 minutes until al dente.
Heat olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat. Grate in the zest of half the lemon, and fry, 1 minute.
Stir in leftover Lemon and Garden Herb Baked Pollock and Leeks, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until hot, about minutes.
Then, stir in crème fraîche, and season with black pepper. Simmer, about 5 minutes more.
Once the fusilli are cooked, quickly drain, saving 1/4 cup of the starchy cooking water, and stir both into the skillet, coating the pasta nicely. Thoroughly squeeze in the juice of the whole lemon.
Serve Creamy Pollock and Leek Pasta hot, garnished with, if desired.
