Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody? 1998
"Are You That Somebody?" is a song recorded by American singer and actress Aaliyah for the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack. It was written by Static Major and Timbaland, with the latter producing it, in addition to performing a guest rap. It is an R&B, pop, soul, and avant-funk song with hip hop influences. Its production also incorporates other instrumentals such as staccato guitars, beatboxing, and drum and bass. The Dr. Dolittle soundtrack was released on June 16, 1998 and consisted of a blend of hip hop and contemporary R&B. The soundtrack was a huge success, peaking at 4 on both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and was certified 2× Multi-Platinum on October 20 the same year.
Upon its release, "Are You That Somebody?" received critical acclaim from music critics, with them praising its off-beat innovative production. In 1999, Aaliyah earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for the song. Initially, it was ineligible to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 because it was an airplay single not commercially released to retail stores but in December 1998, Billboard changed its policy to allow airplay-only songs to chart, and the song eventually peaked at number 21. Internationally, the song achieved even greater commercial success, peaking at number one in New Zealand and number three in the Netherlands. It also peaked at number 11 in Canada and the UK.
An accompanying music video for "Are You That Somebody?" was directed by Mark Gerard with choreography orchestrated by Fatima Robinson. It received acclaim from the music industry, receiving Best R&B Video and Best Video from a Film nominations at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. The video also earned a nomination for Outstanding Music Video at the NAACP Image Awards. Throughout the years, critics have praised the video for its choreography, with many highlighting the flamenco routine depicted in the final scene.
"Are You That Somebody?" received a total of 68,8% yes votes! Previous Aaliyah polls: #217 "Try Again".

Japanese Tales Fans Vote Their Favorite Tales Games In Recent Survey
Japanese website Net Lab has made another Tales related survey for fans to vote; the topic this time is favorite Tales games. The poll ran from June 27, 2023 to July 4, 2023 and has a total of 10, 344 votes overall.
Before I reveal the results, there are three things I want to let you know:
This is a Japan-only poll because the admins did not want overseas fans to vote due to possible illegal voting.
Fans can vote up to three games.
Please do not be vocal about the games/titles you hate or don’t particularly; if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.
Tumblr media
Here are the results from 1st to 24th (I’ll add in the number of votes the game has received and a comment that pertain to the respective game translated via Google Translate and me trying to make it as cohesive in English):
Abyss - 1176 votes
Comment: Bamco, are you seeing this? I’m forever waiting on a full remake of Abyss.
2. Vesperia - 1035 votes
Comment: My favorite is Tales of Vesperia. My first Tales game was Legendia, but Vesperia is the first one I’ve cleared. The Switch version is super packed and I have beaten the secret boss. I had a super hard time with that boss battle. I love Yuri so much.
3. Zestiria - 983 votes
Comment: It’s been a long time since I graduated from the Tales series, but Zestiria made me want to come back. There may be times where I feel unreasonable, but I’ve come to like this work, including that “do-it-yourself” thing. I really like it.
4. Symphonia - 962 votes
Comment: Before I played the first 3D game, I was a little worried, but when I opened the lid, I was hooked on the perfection that surpassed the previous work. I love the characters, the story, the music and the system.
5. Phantasia - 701 votes
Comment: For me, it’s Phantasia, which I played for the first time and became the most memorable. I want it to have a remake like Destiny.
6. Eternia - 693 votes
Comment: One vote for Eternia with a smooth battle system!
7. Destiny - 601 votes
Comment: Just remembering that scene with Leon breaks my heart. My favorite work of all time. I want to play again, so I’ll be waiting for a port!
8. Berseria - 529 votes
Comment: Because the first game I played was Tales of Berseria, I got hooked onto Velvet.
9. Graces F - 528 votes
10. Xillia 2 — 508 votes
11. Destiny 2 -  456 votes
12. Arise - 367 votes
13. Rebirth - 311 votes
Comment: I love Rebirth’s battle system and characters so much!
14. Legendia - 294 votes
Comment: Legendia, when will you get a remake or a port? I’ve been waiting…
15. Xillia - 176 votes
16. Luminaria - 171 votes
Comment: Luminaria is the best! I want to see the continuation someday!
17. Innocence R - 168 votes (tied)
Comment: Tales of Innocence (DS version) makes me want to play regularly. A work that I love and value so much that I lose my vocabulary.
17. Dawn of the New World - 168 votes (tied)
19. Crestoria - 148 votes
20. Hearts R - 134 votes
Comment: Tales of Hearts for DS is my favorite work, not the remake version of Hearts R.
21. Narikiri Dungeon - 91 votes
22. Others - 68 votes
I’ve seen people say “Radiant Mythology series”, “Asteria”, “Versus” “Link”, “The Rays” and “Warheit”.
23. Tempest - 56 votes
Comment: I will always love Tempest. Please remake it.
24 - Summoner’s Lineage - 20 votes

Some fun stuff happened for this week. The community did its best to rally around poor Nick Jackson. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to get him over the 50% smash mark. However, he received the sixth most votes out of all the polls so far. He just also received the second most pass votes out of all the polls (second only to Vince McMahon back in week 2). Meanwhile, Matt received the ninth most total votes, but he came in at 59.2% smash.
The apple fell pretty far from the tree for nepo baby Charlie Dempsey. For those who aren't aware, he's William Regal's son. William Regal's vote was 65.6% smash, while Charlie Dempsey's result was 22.1% smash. Maybe he'll grow up and get more smashable over time. These polls do seem to trend toward Sexualizing That Old Man. Someday I'm gonna use this data to make some charts, and one of them is gonna be wrestler age vs smash rating.
And now for some of my favorite tags and comments
@angelkitty32001 on Mox: #i would run through walls for twink era mox
@beefyandbloody on Matt Jackson: #he's got nice hair and tits and puppy eyes i am smashing Gently because he looks like a sensitive young man
@scissormedaddyass on Matt Jackson: #judging by his lack of reciprocity in pokemon go i KNOW it would be extremely unsatisfying#but i need to pull this man’s hair so badly

@daphne-minor on Nick Jackson: I bet all y’all pass people regret your vote now that Nick looks like an Italian porn gangster who sells counterfeit LSD at playgrounds
@cheapheat on Marko Stunt: #not very attractive to me unfortunately also the youth pastor thing seals it#I hope they canonize killswitch eating him though
@pavlovean on Jey Uso: #i love jey uso with all of my heart#but less like an object of romantic or sexual affection and more like a pathetic sopping wet kitten i found on the streets#nevertheless i would smash if given the chance
Honorable mention to EVERYONE who reblogged Nick Jackson and did their best to rally others to their cause.

For the benefit (?) of my non-UK followers, I want to give some updates about our election next week, just to serve as a nice reminder that other countries also have completely fucking stupid politics.
The first thing to know is that there is absolutely no tension or jeopardy whatsoever. Every poll for at least the last eighteen months has predicted the same result, which is that the governing Conservative Party - which has been in power for 14 years and has spent that time doing nothing but cutting public services while becoming embroiled in increasingly corrupt and absurd scandals - will be utterly obliterated. They have 344 seats out of Parliament's 650, and they will be very lucky to keep hold of a third of those. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's outdoor speech in which he called the election for July 4th (while being drowned by the rain and drowned out by a man with a loudspeaker blasting 90's rock) may as well have been a resignation statement. This is a man most famous for losing his initial premiership bid to a lettuce. He will be remembered either not at all or exclusively as a failure, and his party is trapped in a years-long death spiral. I will be deferring discussion of the Conservative election campaign for later, for reasons that will become clear.
Just for reference, this is what the opinion polls have looked like since the last general election.
Tumblr media
The heir presumptive to 10 Downing Street is Labour Party leader Keir Starmer, who defies description within the bounds of language by means of having nothing whatsoever to describe. He is an abject non-entity with no distinguishing qualities; a vague and noncommittal centrist; someone whose self-described campaign strategy is likened to carrying a Ming vase across a room. Be safe and slow. Make no sudden movements. His party is expected to win at least 400 seats.
Down at the bottom of the chart are the smaller parties. One of Britain's bizarre idiosyncrasies is that we have at least seven political parties, and a first-past-the-post political system that cannot support more than two. These smaller parties usually win anywhere up to a few dozen seats in regions with particularly strong support, but they have no hope whatsoever of ending up as the governing party. Labour has promised to fix this rather unhelpful state of affairs by implementing a proportional representation system, which I'm sure they will definitely be eager to do after winning control of two-thirds of Parliament with just 41% of the vote.
Let us begin with the Liberal Democrats. A decade ago, the Lib Dems were a fairly large centrist party that gave the Conservatives control of a Parliament with no overall majority. Since Labour's lurch middleward under Starmer, they have repositioned themselves as the UK's leading progressive party. They are led by a man named Ed Davey, who has not spent the last month campaigning so much as taking a nation-spanning holiday occasionally interrupted by the arrival of a single bemused camera operator. In the last four weeks, Mr. Davey has taken a painting class in Yorkshire, fallen off a paddleboard in the Lake District, toppled a giant Jenga tower in Hampshire, and photobombed a riverside Conservative campaign stop by by slowly rowing a boat adorned with orange signs across the back of shot. The Lib Dems are expected to go from 15 seats to well over 50, and there's a small chance they even win more seats than the Conservatives. I hope Ed's having fun.
There is also the Green Party, which exists in a permanent state of self-contradiction. They have one member of Parliament and two party leaders; these are three different people. They want to expand renewable energy while banning nuclear power. They are considered one of the UK's major parties, despite the fact that winning a total of three seats next week would be considered an unfathomably excellent result for them. I do not know what their campaign so far has involved, and I do not care enough to check.
The turquoise line on the chart, currently rising with worrying speed, is the Reform Party. While Labour is siphoning votes from the more moderate side of the Conservative Party, Reform is attempting to scavenge from its far-right/fascist wing. They are led by Nigel Farage. If you do not know who Nigel Farage is, I envy you. His rhetoric is more than a little Trumpian, but I can't immediately think of any politicians anywhere else who share his exact vibe of "the grumpiest racist at the local pub is standing for election".
Plain-spoken and British through and through, Big Nige initially said he was going to ignore the UK election to focus on the American one instead, before U-turning two weeks later to announce he would be standing for Parliament. Nigel has had seven unsuccessful candidacies before; he is depressingly likely to be eighth time lucky. This is because he is standing in one of the most firmly right-wing and anti-immigrant districts in the country, and yet another unique selling point of the British system is that you do not have to live even remotely close to the constituency you represent. I'm sure his choice to stand here of all places represents his extreme confidence in his own popularity. Big Nige will not be the prime minister, but if he were, I assume his first policy after getting rid of all the foreigners would be to deport the concept of irony.
Nigel's electoral strategy is the same as virtually everyone else's, which is to steal votes from the Conservatives. This is extremely easy, because the Conservatives have run one of the most catastrophic and floundering campaigns in political history. Rishi Sunak puts Joe Biden's "walking gaffe machine" moniker to shame. To illustrate the point: one of the Discord servers I'm in has a thread entitled "Just the Tories being Clowns". Recent highlights include:
Thousands of campaign leaflets for the party chairman were sent to the wrong constituency
The deputy chairman went campaigning with a convicted heroin dealer
All of their candidates were invited to a video call with senior party members; the time listed on the invitation was one hour later than the actual scheduled start time, so nobody turned up
Their very first advert featured the UK's flag proudly flying upside-down
Five of their candidates are being investigated by the Gambling Commission for betting on the date of the election the day before it was announced; one of them is married to the party's campaign director
They sent campaign emails to small businesses which look a lot like official communications from government departments; the legality of this is unclear
Another campaign email ended with the words "Sent from my iPhone"
A candidate posted a photo of himself holding the keys to a local house to prove he lived in the constituency where he was standing; the house was in fact an AirBnB
The official photo for one candidate's campaign launch showed less than twenty people, one of whom was a cardboard cutout of Margaret Thatcher
Sunak posted on Facebook an image of a fake quote attributed to an AI image of Margaret Thatcher (there is somehow still a cult of personality around this fucking woman)
Sunak delivered an entire speech with his back to the press cameras
Sunak left the D-Day anniversary commemmorations early to go film an interview that wouldn't air for another week, enabling Keir Starmer to get a photo op with all the world leaders he left behind in Normandy
Sunak announced a policy to reintroduce national service for 18-year-olds, which is the same thing as military conscription, except the military part is not mandatory and you can just do a month of unpaid work instead, and it's not clear that that's mandatory either, except that not doing it might deny you access to your bank account; approximately nobody likes this policy, and even fewer understand it
My current working theory is that this is Rishi's revenge tour against the party that refused to elect him until the lettuce went rotten, before he resigns from Parliament, gets the fuck out of the country he destroyed and takes a comfy consulting job in Los Angeles.
Welcome to democracy in the land of post-Brexit. It's a wild new world out here, where people scream all day about a reality that doesn't and won't ever exist, and a man with a bin on his head is trying to unseat the prime minister. Don't ask about Scotland and Wales, and for the love of god don't ask about Northern Ireland - they might all be independent in a decade anyway, depending on how things go. All hail First Lord Sir Keir, that his bland neutrality might translate into a policy that involves doing anything whatsoever.

Britain goes to the polls in July. If things go as expected, this July 4th will be Independence Day for TWO countries. ;)
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced a snap general election for July 4 in a statement outside Downing Street on Wednesday evening, as his Conservative Party faces an uphill struggle to extend its 14 years in power. Sunak said outside Downing Street that he had informed King Charles III of the rare summer poll, firing the starting gun on a six-week campaign that is almost universally expected to conclude in the demise of his Conservative government. Soaked by a downpour as he spoke, Sunak said: “Now is the moment for Britain to choose its future.” He also attacked his opponents, saying that by voting for the Labour Party, Britain would “risk going back to square one.” But he admitted: “I cannot and will not claim that we have got everything right.” Sunak was required to hold a vote by January 2025, and had long resisted calls to be specific about his plans. But a fall in inflation rates, announced earlier Wednesday, provided the backdrop for his announcement.
Like most people, I was surprised by the timing. General elections between June 15th and September 1st have not gone well for the party in power since World War II ended.
The post VE-Day election of 05 July 1945 saw Conservative Winston Churchill himself tossed out of power.
The 18 June 1970 election was a shock defeat for Labour which was defending a strong majority in the previous Parliament.
Labour is currently leading the Conservatives by over 20 points in the polls.
Electoral Calculus last month predicted a Labour majority of 294 seats over the Conservatives. Even a best case scenario for Rishi would be 211 seats out of a total of 650 – or 115 seats short of a majority.
Tumblr media
^^^ FYI: Because of various by-election losses and defections, the Conservatives were down to 344 seats early Wednesday from the 2019 results.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's announcement of the upcoming general election did not go very well.
Sunak, for whatever reason, decided to make the announcement outside in pouring rain and without an umbrella. By the time he finished his remarks he looked like he was wearing a wet suit.
Tumblr media
And as he was making the announcement, everybody near the soaking Sunak could hear a loudspeaker down the street blasting Labour's 1997 theme song, "Things Can Only Get Better" by D:Ream – thanks to Steve Bray.
youtube
Various headline writers and commenters could not resist the temptation to refer to Rishi's announcement as "things can only get wetter". 🌧
This is a 3-minute Labour ad from 1997 featuring that song. (BTW: the information at the end about voting procedures is now out of date)
youtube
The '97 election turned out to be a landslide for Labour in which they won 418 seats – an increase of 146.

Jess Watches // Thu 26 Sept // Day 363 & Fri 27 Sept // Day 364 Synopses & Favourite Scenes & Poll
Only Murders in the Building 4x05 Adaptation
The trio face off against a collection of individuals who deceive, manipulate and threaten as second nature - a Hollywood cast and crew.
I knew bearded Mabel looked familiar but could not place him. It's Solomon from Pachinko! He fooled both me and Irish Paul Rudd. In different ways lol, but still.
We Might Regret This 1x05
Freya and Abe go for their first weekend away together, with Abe doing all Freya's personal care on his own. An argument starts and trouble brews. Levi has his first food truck gig, while Jo shows up to support.
Freya is a bit of an arsehole, and honestly, I love that for her. She's not some cute-sy, vulnerable, sanitized version of a disabled person like most mainstream fictional characters. She gets to be mean and self destructive, as a treat.
Summer Strike (with mum) Ep 3 The Outsider of Angok
Yeo-reum starts carving out a life for herself in her new home, but the neighbors, especially Bae Seong-min, continue to make her feel unwelcome.
She planned to live on 10k Won per day = £6 / 7€ / $8 but then spent 450k Won = £257 / 307€ / $344 for the doggo. I don't think she'll get a job as a book repairer lol but if she sells any of her clothes lmk.

SCP-344: Schrödinger's Can Opener
SCP-344 is a ████-brand manual can opener manufactured some time before 19██. When an attempt is made to use SCP-344 to open a tin of canned food, there is a probability that, as soon as the top of the can is fully opened, the food inside will be replaced with live versions of whatever the can originally contained. The amount of live material released is equal to how many separate individuals of that given species were required to produce the contents of the can, provided the weight of an individual's remains is above 0.██ mg. For example, if a can of tuna has the remains of fifty tuna in it, then fifty live tuna will come out of the can. Compressing items like this into a small space causes significant pressure, resulting in the objects being propelled out with some force, potentially causing injury to anyone within the area of effect. Live organisms in a can that is opened by SCP-344 undergo no observable changes.
SCP-247: A Harmless Kitten
SCP-247 is a Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris; adult female) which, to all observers, appears to be a harmless cat (Felis catus; juvenile female) with an orange-and-black striped coat resembling that of a tiger. Remote feeds and still photos also show this illusion, although it is unknown whether the photo itself is affected or merely the observer. SCP-247's true nature has been confirmed by analysis of weight, water displacement, and dental moulds made from bite marks.

" If Israel remains unwilling to grant the Palestinians a viable state—or if it tries to impose an unjust solution unilaterally—then the United States should curtail its economic and military support. It should do so not because it bears Israel any ill will but because it recognizes that the occupation is bad for the United States and contrary to America's political values. Consistent with the strategy of offshore balancing, the United States would base its actions on its own self-interest rather than adhere to a blind allegiance to an uncooperative partner. In effect, the United States should give Israel a choice: end its self-defeating occupation of the West Bank and Gaza and remain a close U.S. ally, or remain a colonial power on its own. This step is not as radical as it might sound: the United States would simply be dealing with Israel the same way that it has dealt with other colonial democracies in the past. For example, the United States pushed Britain and France to give up their colonial empires in the early years of the Cold War and forced them (and Israel) to withdraw from Egyptian territory following the 1956 Suez War. The United States has also played hardball with plenty of other countries—including close allies like Japan, Germany, and South Korea—when it was in its interest do so. […] public opinion polls confirm that the American people would support a president who took a harder line toward Israel, if doing so were necessary to achieve a just and enduring peace. This policy would undoubtedly be anathema to most—though perhaps not all—elements in the lobby and it would probably anger some other Americans as well. "

hi! first off, I hope ur having a great day/night! if it's ok for me to ask, what number are we on?
Thank you! Gonna be real with you, I haven't been numbering submissions as they've been posted, but here are some numbers I do have. At time of answering: 118 Blorbos have been judged. Of that number, 110 have been adopted and 8 have been ditched 54 Blorbos are currently being voted on (tho at least one of those polls might have ended by the time I hit post lol) 344 Blorbos are in the submissions form waiting to be judged. This number isn't entirely accurate, because there'll be repeats on the form that I haven't gotten to yet Also, if anyone wants to know where their blorbo is in the queue, I can answer those asks as well :D
