#Pleasing perfume

The man told me that it needs two weeks for the scents to settle and combine properly, and it made me wonder if the bottle they'd had at the pop-up was newly made.

That must be it! Excuse me while I get all perfumey here for a second. Perfumes when they get made are left in the open for a couple of weeks to a month to macerate before getting bottled. Maceration is when the oils and alcohol all mix and when exposed to oxygen the alcohol evaporates you're left with the scent itself. Ideally they don't skip or shorten the maceration step so the fragrance you get from the bottle is how it's supposed to smell right at purchase. But if they shorten it, you can macerate yourself by spraying the perfume, leaving the cap open and storing in a dark place. The oxygen will get into the bottle and do its thing. If you ever try a perfume in a store from a tester, and buy it and at home and it smells different, that's because that sample bottle been sitting out for a while. So that hopefully is what happened here, their brand new bottles fresh of the assembly line, brand new opened and if pleasing shortened the maceration time you got the alcohol scent. But that's solvable by waiting a couple of weeks after spraying it. It's annoying you'd have to do that for a high end perfume but it's fixable. Still won't buy without testing first, yes they need samples even for purchase because I've been burned by blind buys before. But this gives me hope! I really want this perfume bottle

Yes!! I think that’s absolutely what must have happened. I loved it once it dried down. It’s really dumb of them not to make sure their samples are the way they want them to be. Or at least to train their salespeople.

🪵Rivulets: library, old books vibe; woody, fresh spicy, some freshness; little bit of powder, little bit dry, possible sandalwood scent, hint of coconut

🌿Bright, Hot: aromatic citrus wood, potentially with lavender or sage; almost a fougère scent

Fougère: The Fougere fragrance family is inspired by the "imagined' notes of ferns, deeper green or mossy, woody notes and is a generally a more masculine fragrance family.

The Fougere is a diverse group that focuses on the blend of a citrus top note, frequently bergamot, an aromatic heart of lavender, and a touch of rose which can also be replaced by the more herbal rosiness of geranium, balanced with deeper notes of oakmoss, vetiver and coumarin ( a warm hay like note found in tonka beans)

🫧Closeness: clean skin, a little bit soapy, fancy bubble bath vibes; really light, powdery, possibly iris, orris, or musk

decided to be normal and take the official touchstarved uquiz over 200 times so I could figure out what answers are associated with what characters, here are the results. please download for higher quality and feel free to share it around and speculate as much as you want lol.

original ver + a quick colorblind friendly ver

my process was basically to blindly run through every answer over and over with a few sets of control answers, changing only 1 variable at a time. once i had enough filled out, because there are 11 questions, i could easily make a set of 10 control answers assigning 2 answers to each character, 2 for mhin, 2 for kuras, etc. the quiz result this way would Always be whatever character was associated with the 11th answer. i used this process to fill any remaining blanks and double check anything i was unsure about.

as for mothman, no matter what combination of the evenly split control answers i tried it always spat back out a different result, so either he is assigned to everyone or no one. this was probably just a mistake lol

vanilla scent comes from orchids.

juno describes nureyev's cologne as smelling of spices from a far off planet, and something he couldn't place, which was later revealed to be the orchids.

Once welcome dreams dried down and you smelled the actual scent, is there a perfume that's comparable that you know of to get an idea of what it smells like?

Ooh. I’m really terrible at that, TBH. I wouldn’t trust me to give you a comp. I just went looking through TikTok to see if anyone had done one yet, but I can’t find anything.

All I can say is that while I like vanilla, I’m not a fan of super sweet perfumes that make me smell like a bakery. This is definitely less sweet than your usual gourmand vanillas.

To me, it was warm and cozy and a little bit spicy (must be the clove). I would wear it a lot during the cooler months.

Sorry I’m terrible at this. The best I can do is tell you what scents I love and wear often that are maybe in a similar family:

Jo Malone: Myrrh and Tonka

Gallagher Fragrance: Tonkazure

House of Brandt: Klea (although it’s lighter—I tend to wear this in the summer—it has that amber woodiness and jasmine that gives it a cozy sexiness IMO)

Is there anyone out there unhappy with their Pleasing perfume because of a blind buy? What have you done with? Is there a retail option for perfumes you used a couple of times but don’t want to keep?

I’m considering to get Closeness but without testing it. What if I don’t like it? 😩

Is anyone else still caught up on the parallels between Imogen and Opal?? Because I am.

I was revisiting my c3e92 and c3e93 live thoughts and came across two big points:

Firstly the parallel of Ted disappearing in order to protect Opal with Liliana disappearing to protect Imogen. And the contrast of Ted, who did so by becoming an inseparable part of Opal while Liliana tore herself away desperately trying to separate herself from Imogen. Both done out of a will to protect the other. (Fyi This was written during e92 before the Aevilux reveal)

Secondly, after the Aevilux reveal, this connection hit me: The locket Imogen got from Relvin (potentially carried by Liliana) carried her baby fingerprint and the words “The better halves make/become a better whole.” A sentiment that Imogen tries to use at the Malleus Key and on Ruidus to get through to her mom. And who is a near perfect literal manifestation of this? THE AEVILUX. The people who split their souls in two (or were born separate in Opal/Ted’s case) and live independently before reuniting again and becoming more powerful for it.

Now imagine Imogen and Opal were to meet (obviously possible as both are being pushed to fight Predathos/those trying to free it) and Imogen repeats the locket phrase and something about it sounds so familiar to Opal, but she just can’t remember it. The group realize that there are gaps in Opal’s memory. Eventually Imogen is able to restore Opal’s memories, living through them alongside Opal in the process (kind of like how she projected herself into Laudna’s head in e103). Then Opal helping Imogen get through to her mom in turn. Or even just them fighting side by side to prove how much stronger you can be if you stop running from your better half. That coming together is a way better way to protect someone than running away and fighting those battles alone.

TLDR: I need Imogen and Opal to meet and talk this instant. Please Mattholomew Mercer I would do anything.
