The Ford Motor Company became the first automaker to offer an 8-track tape player as an option for their entire line of vehicles on sale in the US. Tapes were initially only available at auto parts stores, as home 8-track equipment was still a year away.

I’d like to think that Don Quixote is at least literate in every major language of the City given that her most recent posters are mere decades out of date so just about every Association we’re familiar with should have been established and received coverage in the language of their name. Bari travels far and wide, would it not be prudent of her to broaden Don Quixote’s horizons just the same? Though given Bari’s vetting of her reading material, there may be blind spots in her vocabulary regarding methods of the Shi Association for example.

Imagine that one day, Don Quixote’s mysterious courier delivers a hand-crank radio with a written list of frequencies to tune into. Verily, she turns the handle just so— aha! For the first time in forever (has it been so long?) she hears the voice of another, of music, of laughter. It fades mere seconds after she loses concentration and stops her turning. So, she begins again. Again and again, she turns the handle. Each crank grants her a few moments more with that connection to Somewhere from her island in space. She cannot leave — it’s impossible — but she can listen. With this instrument in hand, a fragment of the universe may greet her halfway.

Imagine, that in a distant mirror world, Don Quixote fiddles with the dial just so— aha! Laughter from a time long past floats into her ear. She is aware that this overtly tinny quality to the voice is associated with works considered “vintage” or trying to emulate the former. What a treat, to stumble across so merry of a station in her humble days. She listens to the flamboyant announcer describe a land of dreams, where “Bloodfiends” and Humans coexist peacefully. That can’t be right, can it? Yet a second, calmer voice invites her to traverse a gloomy mansion in a test of courage. Courage? Mutual commiseration? To what end, when so vicious of a hunger gnaws at her and them? This is merely a ploy to garner donations of blood, yet… could that be so wrong? Blood willingly given… can it be so? Another voice cuts through her thoughts, causing her to yelp.

Ah…?

She listens again, repeats the words on her own tongue: “La Manchaland of dreams.” Indeed, that voice is her own, coming through the radio.

you know, all jokes aside(because we are guilty of making jokes too), it's really funny when people and the game make short jokes at Don's expense and it gives you the impression that she's absolutely microscopic, and then you look at the wiki or something and it's like. she's just 5'4"- she's actually like average height- she's just on a bus full of people who are freakishly tall. like Rodion is 6'0" and Meursault is 6'2". as fun as it is to make five foot jokes at Don's expense(and by extension Sinclair's, they're the same height), she is not that short and it is really easy to forget that. are we going to stop making them? probably not, but we gotta humble ourselves occasionally by reminding ourselves that we're only 3 inches taller than Don, if even that asdflkjn

i don't have the screenshots on hand because this is just a thought i needed to let out after being woken up by my buildings fire alarm at 7am (i am in shambles, thanks for asking) but back at the start of canto 7 i was trying to figure out what in the Fuck hong lu meant by don quixote being 'the most lucid' of the sinners and eventually my read was that she's the one who's most clear on what she wants because hong lu brought up how her eyes are sparkling and the two times dante notes someone's eyes sparkling in that episode (?) were when don talks about saving all the people in la manchaland and when charon says she wants to eat candy at an amusement park, and also this would very nicely mirror the bit in the final sancho fight when dante ruminates about how so far they've been trying to help the sinners out of their issues by figuring out what they want and then promising it to them but with sancho she doesn't want anything because everything she's wanted as don quixote was part of that dream that she's now woken up from (especially with dulcinae talking at length about the difference between sancho and don's eyes)

but like..... there's one other thing about eyes that dante notices in that early episode

so i'm wondering if this is an idea that's gonna come back in canto 8, that dante's old tricks aren't going to work here either because hong lu just doesn't really want anything for himself when he's been living his whole life surrendering (hah) himself to being used by other people for their own goals
