I had to finish some pre-exam homework today and then stomach ache was killing me so I wasn't able to complete Journey Retold entry today, sorry ;w; I will compensate with some fun trivia for my WoLs because I feel like doing it.
Pi Peataan
Pi is Sharlayan by birth but he doesn't remember much of his early childhood here because he was very little;
Pi's birthname is Piyu Lazuyu;
He is 97 cm tall (postEW);
He is a good swimmer;
He plays a flute (picks it up preSB and gets better at it during ShB);
He likes to keep his diary (in addition to sending the letters to his family that usually recount everything that happened within a week);
He also scribbles small drawings at the sides of his letters and sometimes diary pages. Not nearly as good as Alphinaud at art, but they are not an eyesore either;
Pi likes citrus fruits, specifically the oranges;
His favorite flower is a dandelion and his favorite bird is a doman magpie;
Pi wore a few different hats over the course of his journeys (I will probably make a funny post about the hats he officially wore in the story itself tomorrow).
Haru Hataori
Haru looks almost the same as his mom (horn type, tail type, eyes (partially)) and he only got the skin color from his father;
His mom expected him in Spring and wanted to name him Haru;
He is 203 cm tall;
Haru has heterochromia;
He was taught to sew since he was 6, and despite of mainly being a fighter, he is actually great at making clothes;
He was growing pretty much unsupervised which resulted in him growing up to be the dork everyone knows him as now;
That also resulted in him getting a book about the brave Ishgardian Dragoons which inspired him to pursue the craft;
Haru started to dye his hair and do makeup in his teens;
His family is quite rich and thus he has bad spending habits;
He can draw patterns pretty well but he is awful at drawing people and animals;
He is very bad at wistanding cold (even if he says otherwise);
He wore new clothes designed by his father every time He met Pi from ARR to SB. He stopped doing that after he journeyed to Eorzea on his own near the end of SB;
Haru likes sweets and spicy food but he doesn't overindulge in them and most of his meals are actually quite healty;
His favorite flower is a sakura flower and he carries around a sown trinket shaped like one everywhere he goes;
His favorite animal is a chocobo. He absolutely adores the horsebirds, especially his girl Chyunchyun :)
Tumblr media
Also did you know that his chocobo laid eggs after Endwalker---

Mewar University Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervor and Tricolor Splendor
On 15th August 2024, Mewar University was a hub of patriotism as students, faculty, and staff united to celebrate India's 78th Independence Day. The campus came alive with vibrant tricolor decorations, symbolizing the pride and honor of the nation. The Indian flag fluttered majestically as students participated in cultural performances, including patriotic songs and dances that paid tribute to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. The entire campus was decorated in saffron, white and green colors, creating an atmosphere of national pride and celebration.
The program started with the hoisting of the national flag by Mewar Education Society, President Govind Gadiya and the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dr. Alok Mishra. After this, an inspiring speech was delivered in the MPS hall to the students and faculty members, emphasizing unity, progress and the role of youth in shaping the future of India.
As the chief guest Mewar Education Society, President Govind Gadiya of the program, he paid tribute to all those great men who contributed significantly in getting us freedom. Addressing all the students and faculty members present there, he said that we have got this freedom after the sacrifice of millions of people. Therefore, we should not consider it a waste and give our best contribution in the development of the nation along with strengthening democracy. I liked the post on my main account which isn't related to FFXIV so hope you will understand haha.
I wave two WoLs actually but I decided to go for my main little guy, Pi!
Tumblr media
(The glam pictured above is for Dawntrail but I just really like how it looks like)
Pi Piwantal (original name Piyu Lazuyu) comes from one of the islands in the South Sea, 'The Isle of Silverclaw', in a place where a traditional Southern Sea variation of arcanima, the art of controlling wooden mammets, quaqua, was being practiced. Unfortunately the island was taken by the garlean Empire a few days prior to the Calamity, with only Piyu and 11 more lalafells managing to escape into the sea on boats, only for the storm to separate them all. Piyu was found offshore near Vanaspati by a family of immigrants with no memories of who he was or what happened. His new family gave him the name of Pi Piwantal.
In canon, he is not a Summoner, but a practicioner of both kinds of Arcanist schools (South Sea and Eorzean). He only started to practice the Southern artes after getting interested in the book he has been seen washed off on the shore (it was given by his biological father before the escape for safe-keeping) and he takes a great amount of effort to restore it in order to uncover more of its secrets. He carves his own wooden familiar by the time of late Heavensward, calling it Ohwahn (which sounds like the number 01), and gradually adds onto it as the time progresses. By the time of Endwalker, he also learns how to summon Lapis Carbuncle (didn't write much for it yet aside from the fact that it is deep blue color).
Overall, Pi is just a very kind, open-minded kid who loves adventures and helping people. It might be very hard for him to do successfully sometimes (especially if it's to protect someone from an enemy, Pi isn't a very strong fighter despite of his knowledge on both schools of Arcanist), and he does rely on others a lot, but he tries his best. And if he often fails at fighting, he often excells at helping someone through words.
Additionally, Pi's appearance is supposed to be a little different from the model (see pictures below). He has a lazurite hatpin with golden trim, an ahoge, and a front sidebraid tied with a red ribbon (given to him by his lover from the First, lalafell girl Tautt, as a parting gift. In turn, he gave away a blue ribbon he had been tying the braid with to her).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He also owns a male orange chocobo nicknamed Gingerhead and a female Alkonost nicknamed Asuka (that used to belong to his biological parents and that managed to escape and eventually find Pi again on his travels).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd continue to ramble on and on here but I think it's too much already haha.
OK, last fun fact: he likes citrus fruits, especially oranges.

Film Review - The Man from Earth
Tumblr media
There are some days when my brain switches off, puts on pink trousers and lime green sweaters, and dances to Stayin’ Alive, and on those days I want to do nothing other than watch a film that contains no dialogues, no plot and story. Basically I want my brain to do nothing other than to switch off. The Man from Earth is not a film you watch on those days.
Directed on a shoestring budget with lesser known actors, the film is the fulfilment of a filmmaker’s fantasy. Maybe this is what we truly get from an auteur that is truly not only in control of the making of his film, but also of his own mind. The setting of the entire plot is the drawing room of a young professor who is leaving the university he has taught at for a decade, and shifting to another place. He has called a few of his professor friends over for a last goodbye chat. These characters include an anthropological expert, a devout Christian bible researcher and art historian, a biologist, a psychiatrist and a history professor.
In this fantastically talented group of people, our character, Professor John Oldman stands out and, not at the expense of a spoiler, with a little story of his, creates conditions for the next two hours of an intellectually stimulating coffee fuelled extravaganza with a plot twist that will rack your brains and make you question your own ideals.
When I try to recommend this movie to people, the reaction I most often get is “But how can you watch a two hour movie that only has people in a room talking among themselves? Isn’t it boring?” I wouldn’t argue but for this simple reason: When we are among friends, even the dullest and most random topics seem relevant and worth discussing, right? The fact of the matter is that with this film, the director has managed to make the characters and their conversations as interesting as listening to your friends speak.
After watching this film, I had to actually question my historical and cultural beliefs and imagine things like “What would happen if this one thing didn’t happen? Or how did this particular incident inflict change upon a whole generation?” A conversation on this magnitude involving experts in their respective fields may be hard at first to understand, but I thought that the maximum level any participant spoke at was basic class ten subjects. The biological and historic phenomena that were discussed were all within the range of my knowledge, which definitely means anyone my age could understand the film. The question of this film being too hard to understand, therefore, also stands corrected.
Despite its technical and budgetary constraints, this film is a true masterpiece, and a definite must watch. Even though it wasn’t successful at first, it became popular purely through word of mouth and, get this, torrents. The director too expressed his gratitude to all the pirates (Including me, proudly, I guess?) for the influence they had to the extent that the film is now a bona-fide cult classic on many lists.

Special thanks to Piyu for introducing me to this film!
