Postmodernism Art
Postmodernism is a broad movement that developed in the mid- to late 20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture, and criticism, marking a departure from modernism. The term has been more generally applied to describe a historical era said to follow after modernity and the tendencies of this era.
Postmodern art is a body of art movements that sought to contradict some aspects of modernism or some aspects that emerged or developed in its aftermath. In general, movements such as intermedia, installation art, conceptual art and multimedia, particularly involving video are described as postmodern.

Degree Show
‘Format’ London Show
This photograph is from our London show in Hoxton Arches. I was placed in the back room, with a whole wall to myself. This was because my prints were quite big, therefore they needed a lot of space to surround them. Overall I think preferred the London exhibition as the spot lighting worked so much better with my photographs.
Overall if I could re do this project I would definitely frame my work and perhaps print smaller too, this way I could display more images as my portfolio consisted of 10-15 images where as I only displayed 3.
The opening night of the exhibition was brilliant, as an artist I learnt so much. I engaged with members of the public and actually had quite a few people interested in my work. One man said that it was the happiest wall he had ever seen, I saw this as a good thing as he was so interested in my project and other work too. I can now understand why exhibitions and advertisements are so important because it allows you as an artist to network yourself.
Although my future carer will not specifically be in photography as I'm going into teaching photography and art, I still will continue to develop as an artist because with the education system you never stop learning and this is something I adore.
When arriving at Hoxton Arches we weren't extremely impressed with how messy and un organised the space was. However, as a team we worked together; we cleaned and organised our space to fit our needs. Our lectures curated the show. They have 10+ years of experience doing this so it is best for us to observe and learn rather than attempt to curate. As a small group we moved the boards and lights around so that the relevant points would be illuminated. We wanted to make sure peoples work was properly shown.
‘Format’ Ipswich Show
Photograph from ‘Format’ opening night in Ipswich. Overall once my work was on the wall I was extremely pleased with myself as this whole year has been very tough. However, I have finished it with a body of work a adore and want to continue.
For my Degree show I decided to print on to phototex. I would have loved to frame my work however, due to personal reasons I could not afford it. When hanging the work I and my very helpful friends had to measure the height and the distance I wanted between each photograph. This was extremely challenging as when placing the phototex on the wall we had to be extremely carful to not mark it as well as not allowing any bubbles in it.
Personally, I would not use phototex again because it was such a dilemma working with it. However the experience taught me a lesson which I will know for future development.
This was our poster for our End of Year Degree show, as you can see this one is much better, the image fills the whole page, therefore draws the audience into the image as well as the writing. As a class we had a template to work with, which we simply just added in our photo too. This worked really well as we had many different posters promoting everyone's work. My poster was chosen by Hoxton Arches London to advertise our show there.
The Waterfront
The end of year show is being held at the Waterfront Building of the University of Suffolk. As you can see from the image above, this area is filled with natural light due to the large glass windows and the positioning of the building. I am already familiar with this area due to seeing other photographic exhibitions like PhotoEast here, as well as displaying my Christmas show ‘Exposure’ here. Personal I like this space due to the natural light, I feel as though it works well with my body of work too as this was also shot with natural lighting.
‘Exposure’ Christmas show
The idea of the Christmas show is so that as a class we understand what it is like to create a small exhibition, we need to understand how to curate shows and think about our printing and framing. From this show I learnt that I need to put more thought into printing, perhaps even framing too. I also decided that when exhibiting I need to show a series not just one photograph as this way the project becomes more capturing to the audience.
This was our poster for advertising the show. As you can see this format and minimalism does not look good or professional. Therefore when it comes to our End of Year Degree show, as a class we need to work together to create something much more appropriate. Making sure the font and photographs complement each other.
Printing considerations
When printing for the End of Year Degree show I need to consider what paper I will print on to. However this will also depend of how much I can afford as printers such as Metro Imaging although they are one of the best, they are also expensive. Therefore I will need to budget myself.
Metro Imaging paper types.
Fuji Crystal Archive Printing Paper - This paper is available in both gloss and matt finish. The paper uses Silver Halide Crystals for a laser exposure.
Kodak Professional Professional Ultra Endura Printing Paper - This lightjet paper is available in both matt and gloss finish. It its easy to print directly onto for both digital and film imagery. It is a resin coated paper which gives rich colours.
Fujiflex Crystal Archive Printing Paper or 'Supergloss' - The paper is made up of silver halide which is super high gloss and is for exclusive digital output on large format laser printers.
The University of Suffolk paper types.
University have the option to print on either Gloss or Matt Proluster paper, or there is the option of Phototex.
The Gloss is what I printed on for the Christmas show. Although the results of this were good, it was very shiny which distorted certain points of the photo when It was pinned to the wall. Therefore, if I were to print on this when I would need to have it framed, this would also be for personal preference.
When printing of matt photographic paper I found that is drains the colours out of my photographs. Therefore, I will not be printing of this paper as it does not complement my body of work.
Phototex is a canvas texted paper however, the interesting factor about this is that the backing peals off as it is a sticky paper which can be carefully placed onto the walls. With this you do not need to print and frame as it is all in one.

How do you make stickers? I'm interested in making some but not sure how to go about it
Hey there! If you’re just looking for one or two, I’d suggest uploading your design to redbubble and buying from yourself; or buying some sticker paper and printing on that.
If you want to print them out yourself & then run them through a machine for the adhesive backing, get a xyron machine (I have one of these - it’s about $20 and comes with an adhesive roll, very easy to use). The advantage to this machine is that you can also make stickers out of fabric and other flat material.
If you have access to a giant printer, phototex is a great material to work with.
For mass orders on vinyl (waterproof), you may look at chillypig or zapcreatives or similar. Hope that helped!
