Failtopia Fanfic Ideas for the Community to Use

I'd like to credit @rosetheocto for inspiring the premise to a lot of these, plus just listening to a lot of my ramblings on this series in general. If any of you wanna tackle these or put your own spin on it, it's fine by me!

-The Incident celebrating Chi's 21st birthday party

-Erica taking Chat out shopping and being stuck babysitting them

-Shrimp's first major concert after the team is back together

-The Incident stumbling upon Smuk's diner and C!Failboat awkwardly introducing his old and new party members

-Bo trying to get advice for how to ask Erica out

-Chi inviting Lanc over and introducing him to the rest of the new party

-Double dates (between any pairing, almost all of them have pretty good potential IMO)

-Rose and Erica meeting again after Season 2 and Bo questioning her worthiness as a partner

-Shrimp, Petunyawn, and Slapo just vibing together and having a girls' night

-Spamtang hijacking Chat's body and attempting to fire [Big Shots] with their cannon

-Alternatively, Spamtang somehow becoming the Darkest Lord through manipulating Shrimp and her having to fight him in god form

-Erica finally chewing out C!Failboat for being a bad team leader and putting the responsibilities on her and the rest of the team

The Failtopia High School AU

I think it's high time I actually posted about this au!

It's exactly what it sounds like: I put everyone in high school!

The grades are as follows:

Freshmen (9th Grade): Shrimp, Chat

Sophomores (10th Grade): Chi, Lanc, Deko, Joker, Big Bill

Juniors (11th Grade): Erica, Failboat, Friend, Rose, Pirahnyawn, Bo

Seniors (12th Grade): Orion, Mar, Simple Bob, Smuk

Bonus: Petunyawn and Slapo are both in middle school (7th grade, to be precise)

The AU still takes place in Miitopia, so everyone is still whatever variety of nonhuman they originally are, but Chat and Friend look a lot more humanoid.

Most of them are band kids (and I will post what sections they're in eventually, or sooner if someone asks about them!). Kronkui is the band director, because I think that's the closest think high school has to a god (trust me, I'm a band kid, I would know).

Relationships: Lee in this AU is Friend's ex who goes to a different school, Rose and Pirahnyawn have the most superficial and strained relationship you've ever seen, Chi and Lanc are in that limbo of are-we-friends-or-are-we-dating, and Erica and Bo definitely like each other but nobody has made a move yet.

Other trivia: The school is called Greenhorn High and the mascot is the Banshees!

While I get Failtopia seasons' post-game streams are (for good reason) generally disregarded as non-canon, was there anything you still found entertaining? (Characters, world-building ideas, etc.)

As “meh” as the Post Game content is, I think that for every bad concept/character Dan has, there’s also good to it!! This applies to both seasons btw (Erica’s multiclass was taken almost exactly from how it went in S1.5!)

Starting with S2.5, I think Spamtang does have some good to him!! I don’t really want him back as a party member, but I do think he could make a good antagonist if given the chance! Other people can contribute more to the topic of this character, but if given the right opportunity, he could definitely be a fan favorite (that being said though, he doesn’t need to come back)

Petunyawn, however, needs to come back! Her lore is too perfect to retcon when Dan does the actual S2 sequel. Her connections to Pirahnyawn was great, the bond she had with characters like Orion was really good, and she overall just has a lot of charm to her! If she isn’t in Realm of the Fey when S3 happens, I’ll be very surprised! Unlike Simple Bald and Spamtang, she has the research and creativity to her that we haven’t really seen in the rest of S2.5! She’s definitely a favorite of mine!

For S1.5, Smuk’s multiclass isn’t something I prefer to become canon (he becomes a flower), but him expanding his pallet to become more vegetarian could be some fun potential! If he’s still a Chef in S3, maybe he sorta starts to cook outside of ‘his swamp’ with more diverse/open ingredients?? If Dan does try to separate more S1 characters from their source material, maybe something like that could be a good start for Smuk! …or maybe I’m not making any sense here lmaoo

AND NOW FOR THE ACTUALLY UNAPPRECIATED CHARACTERS!!! MIITOPIOFF THE HOOK!!!! SAVE ME!!!!! I LOVE YOU!!! YOU ALL HAD TOO GOOD OF A GIMMICK TO HAVE BEEN RETCONNED!!! If you don’t know who the hell I’m talking about, I’m talking these three Miis right here! Miirina, Piirl, and Harold! (yes. like the Octobomber that’s been memed to death on his channel. the traumatized thing next to the gameplay in all the S1 streams. that’s Harold.)

They’re all based off of Splatoon characters (mainly the idols Off the Hook)! For their new gimmicks, Daniel would always have them be together no matter what! like when one of them gets sick or something in-game, they’re both out! Also, Dan would do this thing where when Piirl and Miirina both used a specific move (I believe it was Earworm), he plays an Off the Hook song for the rest of the fight! Maybe it’s because I’m a Splatoon fan, but if these three got repurposed for Season 3 I wouldn’t be complaining! And although Harold didn’t do much, I still love him! These three deserved better tbh, I’m one of their biggest fans <3

Chat: Attack the pinata?

Erica: I believe he is suggesting that you beat someone up and rob their unconscious body.

Failboat: .....NO-

Petunyawn's Character: A Failtopia Analysis

Ah, the Season 2 post-game. An absolute mess filled with the worst character writing Failtopia has ever had in SpamTang and Simple Bald, a completely barren plot that doesn't tie into any of the characters, including the new ones, and completely ignores almost every character on a regular basis. Including the new ones.

The newest stream was pretty good, Chat's redesign nonwithstanding, but overall, these post-game streams have probably been the lowest quality string of Failtopia content. Which makes it even more insane that a great character like Petunyawn came out of it!

She's the daughter of Pirahnyawn, the asshole flower from Season 1, and the explanation for her being 7 years old, but only alive for one year, is that plants age way faster than humans. Doesn't make a lot of sense if you apply it to Pirahnyawn himself, and it'll most likely be retconned if Petun gets integrated into canon, but it's a genuinely creative explanation to get the impossible character here without breaking the timeline! (Looking at you, SpamTang)

Petun literally aging too fast for her dad to keep up with, combined with the fact that Pirahnyawn would be a terrible teacher, sets up for a character who knows shockingly little about how the world works, while still being old enough to have a fairly developed personality. Naturally, this is exactly what we get from her.

She's characterised by constantly questioning literally everything and everyone that surrounds her. This is because she's spent her whole life being entirely uninvolved from a lot of the world, due to being a literal plant, and a young child. She's a lot like Slapo, in that she's a random seven-year-old who felt disconnected from the larger world, and absentmindedly decided to explore it after the assumed death of her parent, seeking out her answers directly from the source. Petunyawn likes to get to the point, she doesn't want to waste time with prior explanations for the answers she gets. She only wants explanations after she hears the information, because that's her learning method, but most people she meets will do it the other way around, and she cannot comprehend that. So, she gets pushy.

Petun obviously doesn't have the vocabulary to explain why she doesn't understand most of the things she gets told, and ends up completely contradicting them in her best attempt to follow along, to the annoyance of everybody. If she receives complaints because of this, that annoyance includes her, because she's never been effectively taught that her mistakes could cause real harm. Her dad, Pirahnyawn, has never really cared about being harmed himself, he only cares if people around him are being harmed, so Petun has a basic understanding of how to keep herself out of danger, and although she's made her best efforts, she doesn't know how to apply the same to other people. In fact, she just doesn't know other people.

This girl has had zero social interaction for her entire life, and her father is infamous for having no healthy relations with anyone in the FailFleet Miis. She gets off on the wrong foot with almost everyone who isn't unusually accustomed to weird girls like her, Orion being the only clear example of such a person, except maybe Bo. She struggles to focus on the people, because she's so curious about everything else in the room, and wants to understand her current situation to an unreasonable degree before she even tries to connect with the other person. This makes sense to her. She can't connect with someone if she doesn't understand the context that surrounds their connection, and once she finally starts to get an idea, that's when she can actually make some friends! For example, Shrimp doesn't really like her at first, she's a popular streamer who's all too used to invasive questions, but once Petun finally stops with those, they can quite easily bond over their shared weirdness, as shown in the latest stream.

Friend is another interesting character relationship Petunyawn has. Neither of them are particularly fond of the other, but there's no outright hostility, because neither of them would resort to that. Petun doesn't see the need, and recognises that Friend is a powerful adult, and Friend recognises that Petunyawn is a relatively innocent child. Her intense analysis of everything around her has very promising strategic potential, but when she starts tearing into their strategy (something they truly enjoy, and has gotten them through some incredibly dark times), their unhinged, fragile side starts to show. A little voice in the back of Friend's head is one of their worst nightmares - but that's not what this is. Petunyawn is not malicious, she holds no ill will towards Friend, she's a talented healer trying to look out for the party, but she still doesn't have very good vision, and she's usually knocked unconscious before she can do all that much. Which completely tracks, and even mirrors Shrimp, because she is a literal child. Friend truly does not know how to help her, but that's not really their job, and it's not her fault.

Petunyawn tends to mirror a lot of the more energetic personalities in Failtopia. Slapo, Shrimp, even Failboat if you consider her "trying her best but failing miserably" gimmick. She's airheaded, though, and she isn't energetic at all. She just happens to be a perfect foil for the characters who are, because they can all bounce off of her reasonability, and relate to her in her weirdness. If anyone's equipped to explain the world in a language Petun understands, it's someone who is fully immersed in the weirdness that makes up a huge element of who she is, and the lens she views the world through.

This girl was raised in an environment so unorthodox and impractical that there was not a chance in hell that she would emerge as a normal person, in any sense of the word. And that's amazing. She tries so hard to experience the larger world, with no real idea of how to go about that aside from attacking it at the source, but the Oopsie family recognises her inability to understand things if not explained with precision, and helps her to settle into a life she doesn't have to constantly question. A life that finally makes sense to her.

Just like the Erica analysis, a lot of this is probably unintentional, but also just like the Erica analysis, I don't think it matters, when what we're provided is solid enough for me to write all of this.

Failtopia ship headcanons: Volume Three

Formatted differently to the previous ones, but I highly doubt more than two people even remember those.

Thinking about how Erica and Bo are both so plagued by a lack of control in their life, as well as the barrage of deaths they deal with, that they make drastic decisions they never would've otherwise, given their cautious natures, to try and regain that control.

Thinking about how Lanc and Chi are both silly goobers who talk exclusively about their special interests and work together on insane science projects to distract themselves from the fact that they're way out of their comfort zone in a team filled with competent adults.

Thinking about how Mar and Orion both have horrible coping mechanisms regarding their trauma that only worsens their personal relationships, and have to try harder than they ever would've wanted to maintain the positive relationships their livelihoods rely on.

Thinking about how Simple Bob, Smuk, and Rose are all so fixated on their professions, so fixated on building themselves up as worthy and capable, that none of them truly get to show off their actual personality unless it's an interaction with one of the other two.

Thinking about how Deko and Joker are both teenage boys with zero confidence in themselves and their abilities compared to literally anyone else around them, to the point that they just want to force themselves through the adventure without expressing real emotions.

Thinking about how Slapo and Petunyawn are both infant girls who set out into the wider world with none of the experience to behave even remotely normally, and largely rely on surrogate parental figures to give them any actual sense of direction or proper decision-making.

I've heard that Daniel Failboat is what C!Fail's canon name is, but it's never mentioned in Failtopia specifically, and he's never once called Daniel, but I'll roll with it

Bob should have a basic-ass surname, I think Thompson fits

Nightwerke is a combination of "Dreamworks", because Shrek, and "nightmare", because dreams, and misspelled to match with Smuk

Erica Claire is the name she has in FHBM, but before that, I came up with Erica Terra, for a similar thematic reason. Claire is based off "Erica Clerica", and Terra is based off "Erica Terrorca"

DEK-0 is a headcanon I've mentioned before, that he got his new name from his experiment label. As for the Midoriya thing, that would logically have to have been his name, though it's never stated

Her full name is Chin Kid, and she goes by Chi, that much is entirely canon, though it isn't clear if "Kid" is a surname, or an extension of her first name

Caurde is based off of Kaard, a Deltarune surname (though unrelated to Lancer). Both are intentional misspellings of "card." I did not come up with this one

Rose Alina sounds like Rosalina. That's why everyone makes the mistake. I also did not come up with this one

Petunyawn having the "yawn" naming convention implies that the Yawn family doesn't have an actual surname, it's just an extension of their first

Same as with Deko but even moreso, this is just what would logically be the case in the lore

It's like Mario Mario, is the joke. I didn't come up with the idea, but I did add the second r myself

If we roll with the idea that Failboat is C!Fail's surname, and that he adopts Chat, this is what would happen. But neither of those are fully canon, as far as I'm aware, and this obviously isn't either

Gargan is based off the word "gargantuan". Because he's big

For most the characters I headcanon as trans, I guess they should technically have deadnames, but I'm not too fond of coming up with them, so I just won't
