The biggest reason why the language is called "Farsi" in the first place is because Arabic doesn't have a hard "P" sound. [Insert that Shrek meme] They don't even have the letter "P".
They are also grammatically different.
My favorite example of "space tamales" with MENA/SWANA characters was in a fic where an author described Farsi as "a dialect of Arabic." My sister in Christ, they are not even related languages. Farsi is Indo-European (like English is) and Arabic is a Semitic language. The author claimed to be "really passionate about language learning" too, but apparently not passionate enough to just look up 101 stuff about these two major world languages on Wikipedia....
Another thing I see a lot with Asian (especially outside of China/Korea/Japan), African and SWANA cultures in particular in fic is this thing where the "traditional cultural elements" means they're luddites compared to everybody else. Like space futures where the Middle-Eastern character's family are still living in desert caravans with no modern tech or the African character's are doing that in some stereotype of a rural village with no running water or electricity.
Like you'd have hoped that the internationally popular movie Black Panther would've introduced more people to the fact that Afrofuturism = thing that exists, and more broadly that you can do a high-tech, spacefaring future that is culturally non-Western and what that might look like.... and yet people still get stuck on this.
The only non-Western cultures they seem to be able to envision as futuristic are (sometimes) East Asian ones, probably because of cyberpunk and anime.
It makes me want to see a reversal of this sometime. The non-white/Western characters' homes are these super futuristic megalopolises with flying cars, but you follow the French character home and it's still like pre-revolutionary Paris with giant wigs and horses-and-carriages and no indoor plumbing for some reason.

Yes, this is meta on ngk. I know, right? Possible origins and other layers of meaning? Ngk.
When Crowley uses it, "ngk", as we know, is the sound of a very clever word nerd just being so floored, confused, overwhelmed, or otherwise incapable of speech that we might think that what he says sounds like a bunch of random letters. It comes out like a curse at times... or a !!!!!... or it would be a squeak of frustration, if only his voice weren't so deliciously low. People read it as the verbal equivalent of a short keysmash and, emotionally? It probably is, but... those letters are not at all random.
The reasons why these letters were chosen are so. very. Crowley. that I think you'll find that the character's (and Pratchett's) interesting word kink might, as Mrs. Sandwich would say, put a smile on your face. 😊
I am pretty sure that ngk is two, different but interconnected, word history jokes related to the Greek language. Why the Greek language? Because it, along with Latin, is at the core of basically every language that etymologists refer to as being part of the Indo-European language family, which is pretty much every language of European countries, the Persian Plateau (sometimes referred to as the Iranian Plateau), and the northern Indian subcontinent. If you ever do word history research on words in English or Indo-European languages, it won't take you longer than two minutes to start finding your way back to the Greek roots for many of the words you look up. Greek is both a language in its own right and also the part of the origin story of words in dozens of other languages. Greek is at the core of the etymology-inspired figurative language in Good Omens and in Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.
Because Greek has existed as language for literal ages and is so foundational to the study of other languages, etymologists needed a way to differentiate between the before and after period of big change in the Greek language.
Known to date, there really was one, massive shift that the language underwent over a period that has been narrowed down but the exact time and cause is debated. The most common theory is that it is related to The Fall of Constantinople and the collapse of the Byzantine Empire. The point is that, during this semi-disputed period of time, Greek underwent some big shifts that are, by and large, what differentiate between what we'd call "Ancient Greek" when looking at word history and how Greek has been written and spoken since through today. It's all the same language but it's just shifted so much, especially during this one period, that there are differences in it that people looking at word history need to be aware of when looking at the origins of words versus what things might mean or how they might be spoken in Greek in our current times.
In order to do that, etymologists created the term "New Greek" to mean Greek as spoken after this period of massive change to differentiate it from the Greek of more ancient Greece. NGK or ngk is the etymology world's acronym for "New Greek." Making this even more confusing? At some point in the last couple of decades, etymologists began calling "New Greek" by a different name-- "Modern Greek"-- but it means the same thing and, from what of it I've seen, they have largely kept the same ngk acronym. (The change to "Modern Greek" happened after Good Omens was first published.)
So, the first thing of the two things that ngk is? It's Crowley being so speechless or over everything that he's like argh, it's all fucking New Greek. He's cursing or exclaiming in frustration using the acronym for the shift in languages that underpins all of the languages he most frequently speaks, the evolution of which he lived through. Even word-nerdy poets have moments of FUCK WORDS and that appears to be one level of what ngk is. This also might be a little joke as well on the controversial old idiom that exists in different forms throughout different languages-- "it's all Greek to me"-- that was popularized in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. For more on that, I'd refer you to this really interesting Atlas Obscura article on the idiom.
Ok, so, that's the first of the two Greek-related things that ngk is. Let's look at the other one so you can see just how great a Crowley joke this...
While ngk is an acronym, it also, separately, happens to be a double consonant sound in Greek. Do not worry if it's been awhile since you studied a language, I will simplify. 😊
In English, a double consonant is when a consonant appears twice in a row in a word, like the two times in a row the letter l appears in the word balloon. In Greek, it's a different thing. A double consonant in Greek is a combination of two consonants that make one, collective sound together. Greek double consonants are closest to (if not exactly equivalent to) what is called a digraph in English phonics, which is the sound made by two letters commonly put together, like sh, qu, ch, etc. When you were first learning English, you were taught things like how sh makes a "shh" sound, in addition to learning the individual letters of the alphabet, right? That's kind of what some double consonants are like in Greek.
One of the Greek double consonants is the combination of the letters gamma + kappa in the Greek alphabet. When you say the double consonant of gamma + kappa aloud?
You are saying: "Ngk."
The letter gamma here in this double consonant is pronounced a little differently than usual and has what's known as the "gamma nasal" quality that causes it to be pronounced like "ng." Kappa here is pronounced and written like the English letter k, for which it is the direct ancestor. The pronunciation of the gamma + kappa double consonant is the sound that Crowley says in the bandstand in S1.
So, Crowley is actually cursing/exclaiming out a double consonant of the Greek alphabet...
Why? And why this one, when there are a bunch?
Start by checking out how the uppercase and lowercase letters for both gamma and kappa are written below:

Uppercase gamma is the crank part of a crank tool. Lowercase gamma is the origin of the English letter y-- homophone: the signature word of questions: why?

Gamma is a term used all over the place in math and science, including gamma rays from electromagnetism and gamma waves, observable neural movement that is connected in the mind to large-scale, high-level cognitive activity, often related to memory, perception, creativity, and attention. These are also some of the brain waves most impacted by mental health issues and that are also some of the most affected by things like meditation.
Gamma is also a Greek word for the camel. (Lest you think that Good Omens forgot a rideable animal for their never-ending horses/transportation euphemism fiesta... found the missing camel! 😂) The word gamut also comes from gamma and originally referred to music-- the entirety of the musical scale-- but now you can say "runs the gamut" about anything in a way that means the same thing as the idiom "from soup to nuts"-- just everything, from beginning to end. From creation to completion and back to the start again.
Kappa has ties to some Crowley-related science and spirituality, such as The Kappa Effect, which is a theory explaining how the mind's perception of distance can affect its perception of how much time has passed. In early Buddhist scriptures written in Pali, a kappa-- referred to as a kalpa in later writings-- refers to a very long period of time between the creation and the destruction/recreation of a world or universe and related to the lifetime of that world or universe.
So, we have memory, time, the creation of the universe, crank tools, asking questions... these letters are turning into a whole list of Crowley-related things, yeah? There's more...
Kappa is written in both cases like the letter k-- homophones: 'kay (as in, ok/okay) and cay.
The etymology of ok is actually an example of a briefly-existing cant vocabulary, which... heyyyy. That feels relevant, yeah? 😲
In the late 1830s, a (very limited) cant vocabulary emerged in New England that created new slang out of making acronyms out of intentionally misspelled existing phrases. It is thought to have started or been encouraged by a Boston Morning Post article that mocked a competing newspaper by saying it was spelling things the way its rival did-- spelling "all correct" as "oll korrect." A lot of issues of newspapers from this time period no longer exist so the exact issue that caused this paper to troll its rival is unknown. There is some speculation that it might have been something of a class warfare battle being played out between papers who appealed to different groups of people, given that the mocking "oll korrect" sounds, when spoken aloud, to be of the same pronunciation quirks of the 'pahk the kah in hahvahd yahd' variety of Boston accent.
"Ok" is believed to have originated as an abbreviation of "oll korrect." This article either prompted-- or was an example of-- a cant vocabulary that did a rare thing-- united Boston and New York lol-- for a little while in the late 1830s. There were other abbreviations used as words like this, for which you had to understand one of Crowley's favorite word things-- homophony-- and know the pattern to understand. KG meant "no go", off of the homophonic "know go," for example.
Ngk, like ok and these other words, is an abbreviation being used as a a word. Not of one that's misspelled but one that is from the cant vocab of etymology nerds, making it fun in an especially meta sort of way.
The most famous of these phrases from this late 1830s Boston/New York cant-- and the only one to survive-- is "ok", which etymologists think was probably was helped to remain by being picked up and used in President Martin Van Buren's failed reelection bid in 1840.
As you can probably tell from the fact that I said that it was used in a Presidential campaign, the cant vocabulary spilled into the mainstream and, so, lost relevancy as it was no longer something that not everyone understood. "Ok" was kind of like the "brat" of the 1840 U.S. presidential campaign, in some ways? Once everyone got the joke, people still used it in the mainstream because it was a quick thing to say or write as an affirmative but its subversion was lost by its meaning becoming commonly understood.
While this 1830s cant vocab was *much* smaller, the best anyone can tell-- more like a handful of phrases and not much more-- it's kind of similar to Polari, in terms of the language burning out but leaving lingering words in mainstream English.
Ok, so the other word from kappa: cay.
A cay is a low island. It has a synonym-- one definition of the word key (Key Largo, The Florida Keys, etc.). So, we have a low island-- the use of the beach/the sea/fish/bodies of water as figurative language for sex in Good Omens-- and its also the word that is a key. Keys you use to start engines to drive and also to unlock language. A key is the necessary component to interpreting hidden language and here's one of the keys/clues to taking apart the use of language in Good Omens right here in ngk.
Kappa is from the Phonenician kaph, which meant the hollow of the hand (the palm) when it is forming a cup shape... as in when praying/meditating or when creating or presenting something...

...and the sole (homophone: soul) of the foot-- its arch, in particular. Arch, alternative meaning: playful, knowing, dry teasing.

In other words, kappa, etymologically, is the movement of the hands and feet-- it's living on Earth. It's using the hands to make magic and art, to worship and give to others. It's the the cobbler walking the Earth-- living life.
Crowley's story is the double consonant of gamma+kappa. Not just the angel he was and his life on Earth since his fall but how they're really all intermixed into one person because he's always been the one person. Ngk is who he is and that is why, of all the possible sounds, he says this one.
While it was both an acronym and a sound prior to the novel, ngk was, to the best of my knowledge, not written as a word in its own right prior to the publication of Good Omens. Crowley's exclamations are the first utterances of ngk as a word and our understanding of what it means comes from the context of when and how he uses it in the novel and in the series. In that way, ngk is Good Omens' own contribution to language evolution.
Terry Pratchett, who wrote his Discworld novels and Good Omens with etymology-based figurative language, made word history such a big part of Good Omens that he had the book itself contribute to language evolution by having it birth a word in Crowley's ngk.
From interpreting its meaning by the context of how Crowley uses it... from researching from where this grouping of three letters as a word could have originated... from incorporating the word into fan art and fanfic... and from using it amongst ourselves in real life and explaining it to other people if they ask for the last couple of decades?
We've all been collectively helping Terry Pratchett contribute a new word to the English language.

It was supposed to be a good night, Tara had invited you over for wine-night- despite not being a fan of wine herself, she knew you were quite the oenophile.
It was a sweet gesture that made a rose-like tint appear across your cheeks. The first of many to come.
When you got to Tara's house, she greeted you with an excited hug and a peck on the cheek; leaving you with a faint stain from her lipstick. You didn't mind though.
You greeted Sugar as normal, scratching the top of his head and tapping his tiny black nose with the tip of your index finger, the chihuahua-mix loved you.
Tara lead you into the kitchen, showing off the various types of wines she'd bought.
"I just panicked and grabbed what sounded best, hope that's alright." She laughed nervously as you examined each bottle. It seemed the girl picked a bottle of rosé, a bottle of red, and a bottle of white.
The iconic trio. Yet, you had no interest in getting completely wasted off of wine tonight; so you decided on the bottle of red- as it was your personal favorite.
"Red wine always makes me feel grown-up." Tara laughed, digging through her drawers for a corkscrew. You wrinkled up your nose, giggles escaping your lips- "We're 24, we are grown up." You teased the shorter girl.
Tara rolled her eyes, "Y'know what I mean." She insisted- finally pulling out a corkscrew from the drawer that held all her miscellaneous utensils.
You didn't know what she meant, and as you went to ask for clarification- Tara's phone began buzzing against the kitchen counter.
The girl's deep brown eyes trailed over to her screen, "It's Johnnie, d'you mind?" She asked- holding out the corkscrew towards you.
"Course not." You smiled back at her, accepting the tool and beginning to dig the steel tool into the cork of the bottle. Tara thanked you by pressing yet another kiss onto your face- this time on your jawline- before grabbing her phone off the counter and walking into the living room.
You cursed mentally as the tool slipped from your hand, just barely grazing the top of your hand in the process- allowing a small trickle of blood to fall from your scratched skin.
"Shit." You sighed, grabbing a paper towel and pressing it over your bleeding skin before beginning towards the room Tara was in.
"A couple?" Tara's words made you stop in your tracks. Was she talking about you?
"Don't be stupid Jake," Tara laughed nervously, uncomfortable at the questions her ex and his friend were throwing her way. "I mean- she's nice and all but...no, it's just..."
Your heart was in your throat as Tara searched for the right words, tears already beginning to spill out from your eyes; threatening to ruin the expensive mascara you'd put on just for tonight.
"It's just casual." Tara decided, stabbing a knife through your heart. You grabbed hold of the stair banister- feeling the words flows through your body.
Casual?
You and Tara were just...casual? What did that even mean? Sure, you knew you weren't the persian's girlfriend but...you didn't think that you and her had could be summed up in a six letter word.
Nor did you think a six letter word would hurt this badly.
Was it casual when Sugar hurt his back leg and Tara called you in tears at three am? Was it casual when Tara held your hand at nearly every club, pulling you in every direction? Was it casual when Tara kneeled in front of you as you were sat in the passenger seat-
"Y/n?" Tara's voice brought your thoughts to a halt. You blinked at her, distain filling your eyes.
"Y/n, you're bleeding." Tara gasped softly, rushing to grab your paper-towel covered hand. You stepped back, scoffing at her. "We're casual?" You asked, hurt evident in your tone.
Tara looked at you for a few moments before furrowing her brows, "...You listened in on my phone call?" She asked, equally as hurt.
You shook your head, scoffing in disbelief at the short girl before pushing past her- making your way to the front door.
"Y/n, wait! Where are you going?!" Tara asked, panicked as she chased after you. You whipped around on your heels quickly, causing Tara to stumble as she quickly stopped in her tracks.
"Home. I'm going home!" You shouted, mascara now officially wasted. "Y/n, just- just wait! We can talk about this!" Tara said, following you to your car.
You shook your head, "No Tara, you've made yourself plenty clear." You spat- the sound of your car unlocking echoing through the persian's quiet neighborhood.
Tara, for what felt like the first time in her life, was at a loss for words- a quiet "Please." slipping out from her plump lips.
You laughed in disbelief, "Grow up Tara." You spat, climbing into your car and slamming the door shut- quickly reversing out her driveway.

The Path to Peridea.
Baylan Skoll says that Peridea is from a fairy tale known to Jedi younglings, a children’s story, but in reality Baylan says this to remind us that Star Wars is exactly just that, a fairy tale, a children’s story.
What does “Peridea” mean?
peri: (in Persian mythology) a mythical superhuman being, originally represented as evil but subsequently as a good or graceful genie or fairy.
ASTRONOMY
peri: denoting the point nearest to a specified celestial body.
from Greek peri ‘about, around’.
dea: Latin for “goddess”
The descent into the underworld is one stage of the hero’s and the heroine’s journey.

As @better-call-mau1 pointed out, the Path to Peridea sounds a lot like the “path to perdition.”
perdition: (in Christian theology) a state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unpenitent person passes after death.
Perhaps this is where Thrawn is, in a kind of hell.
But as in the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, a brave lover is willing to descend into Hades to rescue the beloved. This is Sabine Wren’s mission to find Ezra Bridger.
There’s another meaning to “Peridea” though.
It is a genus of moths from the family Notodontidae.

The moth in The Lord of the Rings films brought Gandalf the Grey hope when he was imprisoned in the Tower of Orthanc. When the moth appeared, it was a sign that Gandalf would soon be rescued by the giant eagles, which are used as symbols of divine intervention in Tolkien’s fiction.
Please note that the letters on the star-map to Peridea resemble the Viking runes Tolkien used in The Hobbit. Both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are stories of a hero’s journey filled with danger and wonder. The brave protagonists have to go “there and back again” just as Sabine will in the Ahsoka series.

I think that Baylan Skoll reminding us that Star Wars is a children’s story is significant. Consider this quote from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling.
“Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped.”
In all the great fairy tales, the love and loyalty of the protagonist is the key to the triumph of good over evil.
Although she isn’t strong in the Force, Sabine Wren’s love for and loyalty to Ezra Bridger will strengthen her resolve on her road of trials along the Path to Peridea. With Ahsoka the Grey by her side, Sabine is ready to leave the comfort of Lothal (her Shire) and go to Peridea to save the man she loves.

Hi, Anna! I was wondering for some small opinion and possibly suggestions to do with AruAni, mainly their names! In my opinion, I like to imagine Annie's name is actually "Annabelle", though she's never said it to anyone, ever, having the name everyone is more used to be the one that everyone calls her. Though, it would be fun if she slipped up and then have Armin, the adorable nuisance he is, start calling her Anaya, Arianna, etc - as he tries figuring out her full name. Bit silly, but fun stuff! And I was wondering, if you ever had thought of that, or the possibility of them having middle names, since I don't believe many have spoken about that and you're very creative when it comes to that! Oh, thank you a lot for asking this! I'm a huge fan of the whole name topic in general, and I think it's a significant topic for such characters as Armin and Annie. I can tell that I'll touch on this topic a bit in the next MYLYSW chapter with my attempts to explore Annie's past in Liberio, so you just HIT ✨the spot✨
I adore the exploration of all of it, so let's begin!
First of all, I want to say that despite everything, I really love the way both Annie Leonhardt and Armin Arlert sound: Annie's full name sounds, first, like a sigh, with the double ringing 'n,' only to flow into quite firm combinations of sounds, with the same respite right in the middle; Armin's name gives me a very metallic sound with a harsh and resonating tune.
I really love how their names sing, and we can explore many of their meanings. However, I want to focus more on the origins - not the meaning and roots of their names, but how they were given and what they meant for them.
We know that Armin's name is given by his grandfather. However, it's also quite an interesting moment for me since parents usually give the name to a child, and his parents disappeared much later when Armin wasn't a newborn. Probably, it's more like Grandpa Arlert was there from the very early time of Armin's childhood, and so he has this honor to give a name for his grandson (we skip here a theory that Armin was an unwanted child who was more of an "accident" rather a desired and planned child, who "stole" from his parents their dreams to fly away - it's a big topic and theory, and I would love to focus on other aspects this time since otherwise it would lead into long essay).
So, Armin, despite losing all his family at a very young age, has a personal connection to his name - he knows that this name wasn't an "accident" or "casually thrown" into him like a label. This name has old Germanic, Latin, and Persian roots, "a Warrior," "a Fighter," and also "goal" and "universal," which all fall into Armin's life path - he fights for the right to appreciate the whole world, even if it's not the one he has read in his book. However, with time, I think he starts to hate this name as his self-hatred grows as well, associating this combination of letters with the downfall and problems (in his opinion) he has caused since often his name was screamed in anguish and fear, or despair. Still, Armin, despite anything, knows his real name, which he learns to embrace and live up to. He knows this name is given with the love and warmth of his grandpa.
But what about Annie? We know that she was found by Mr Leonhardt on the street near the rich-looking mansion and that she has a biological Marleayn mother and Eldian father. Then, she was adopted by Mr Leonhardt (it's also interesting that we don't have any name for him throughout the whole series, which also gives me several ideas, but it's also for another time). Probably, Mr Leonhardt gave her this name by the logic "it sounds simple and doesn't show any relation to her possible noble blood by mother's line", which gives me an actual idea, based on your ask: what if Annie's name, given by her biological parents, was indeed something like Annabelle, Annette or Annalise (or any other form), which sounds more like "noble," rather than Annie, which directly shows her relation to some high-class Marleyan society?
We have not to forget that Marley - is an empire. Any empire does everything to erase any relations to the authentic roots of the people it colonized, and changing names/surnames - is one of these very well-known practices, since when you took the name from a person, you also took the part of their identity and ethnical background to make the person "fit" within the empire as their own, and yet, this is only to play a role of "generosity," when in reality people from colonized territories always won't be equal - the citizens of any metropole look down at them.
I think this happened to Mr. Leonhardt, who in reality isn't Mr. Leonhardt at all but was given this very Germanic surname, which aligns pretty much well with Marleyan traditions. So, the same might probably happen to Annie - maybe when he found her, there was a small card or note with her full name, but when he read "Annabelle/ Annette/Annalise" (or anything similar), he decided that with this name she wouldn't survive in the internment zone with such "noble" name, and simplified it to "Annie," both as an act of erasing any roots for her to start questioning her background and also of an act of owning - just like the empire did to him when he was shipped to internment zone. Just like Edward Said in one of his works, "There is nothing mysterious or natural about authority. It is formed, irradiated, disseminated; it is instrumental, it is persuasive; it has status; it establishes canons of taste and value; it is virtually indistinguishable from certain ideas it dignifies as true and from traditions, perceptions, and judgments it forms, transmits, reproduces."
There's really nothing mysterious. A plain act of cutting the roots, replacing it with himself - no wonder that Annie, on the day of her departure to Paradis, felt such a strong connection with the words her father said to her. It was not only a first showcase of care and love (which I highly doubt of its genuinity, and I don't think any of these words were towards Annie, but only to whitewash his ego), but also the attempt to keep her in his claws - like any empire does to its colonies by erasing everything and replacing with what is comfortable and needed for it to make it looks like the colony is incapable of living without it. I honestly have no questions why for Annie it was all her sole goal - to return to him. I swear, I will always defend Annie and try to highlight the whole complexity of her character.
So, I think, if it really happened at some point in history, then, after the Rumbling, when everything settles down a bit, Mr . Leonhardt confesses that Annie's full name is different (personally, if you would ask me, I really love Annette). For her, it's a huge shock because she realizes where it comes from.
I think it becomes a pretty sensitive topic for her - she would immediately dismiss it, however, she would understand with time passing that this name is hers and isn't hers at the same time since she has no association, no history with it, no attachments, and it also provokes some inner conflict she tries to ignore.
But Armin would notice, and eventually, she would tell him, however, it takes a long time, firstly, for Annie to embrace it as a part of her she has never known, but it's the only thing her parents left for her, aside her birth, and even longer - for Annie accepting it as an alternative - not a replacement - to her name.
I think Armin would be cautious with this, and the first time he calls Annie "Nettie", she would be a bit in shock - but more of the fact that this part of her is also loved and embraced by him. It would never replace Annie from his lips, the way she knows how he sighs it and how his tongue pushes this double "n" in her name only to string it with the mellow tune of "e," but she thinks that "Nettie" also deserves some love - the one Annette never had, denied almost immediately after her birth, but, maybe with him, Annette could learn it, too.
As for the middle names, I'm familiar with them, of course, but this concept is so rare in my country that this whole thing just doesn't appear too much in my head. But we instead have patronyms, and I also thought of all of it, and it just makes me quite sad since if Armin and Annie had patronyms tradition, it would remind them so much of their fathers... Who, well, let's be honest, both left quite a lot of angst in their lives, even if in different ways.
Oh, well... maybe you expected another answer and a more fluffy one, but sorry, I went into the angsty depths of some meta and headcanons :D

Natasha and Clint are split up and communicate through letters. Fluff, missions and a little bit of saving.

It starts with a cat.  
At least that’s what Natasha thinks. 
Clint would say it started with the mission to Antwerp, but really, Natasha thinks that it’s starts with the cat in the window. 
With Clint’s leg broken, he was so bored, she’d suggested letters; emails were easily tracked and she supposed; so could mail, but the postal service still seemed to have more protections than an email Al carrier. 
Clint had agreed and the time for a letter to get from Antwerp to New York wasn’t as long as she thought. 
It was different to a mission report. Something that that actually had to put thought into, but actually something that over the six weeks, she came to enjoy.  
Even the search in the stationary shop, for letter writing stationary and envelopes. 
She can’t remember if she’d ever sent a letter.  
Not when it hadn’t been coded, and so when she sat down to write the first one, she stared at the paper and then got up and left it there.  
She came back with a glass of water and an iced coffee  
Staring again, she hears the cat at the back window and stands again. 
Natasha looks into the darkness and whispers to the cat to come in, clinking a spoon against the saucer of milk and waiting.  
This, she thinks, this is where she started. 
Clint, 
Don’t laugh. There’s a cat here. I’ve named him Liho, for obvious reasons. Remember? He sits with me at night. In fact, if you find fur attached to this letter it’s likely his. Did you know that Antwerp has a stray cat problem? I’m sure there’s more out there, but he’s been the bravest and I think, well, he might be coming back with me. 
All is boring here, there’s not much to report on just yet. I’m sure more going on than there though. 
How is the leg?  
Are you doing the exercises Richard gave you? Follow them, please, otherwise they’ll be on my back to get you to do them.  
The house here is quiet, no neighbours; like most of our houses. It makes the nights long.  
The previous owners must have been just as bored because there’s some 1000 piece puzzles - I’ve started one. I’m enjoying it. It’s of London buses - a whole scene of the square. I’ll probably have it finished in a day or two. 
Perdy and Pongo - the contrived meetings have been nice and easy. Another one tomorrow, all going well. 
It’s nearing one in the morning.

(holds mic out) Can we have an insight with regards to your naming schemes and how you come up with them? Your collection of names are quite unique, cohesive, and impressive for me!
A lot of tears and vocal stims (only half joking) but yes!! I am one of those readers/writers who adores names “fantasy” names. I will die on the hill that “Overlord Zurkuth” is better than “Overlord Dan”
I’ll going to using my countries Ivaenia, Saevi, Vultis, and Zenier as the examples for this first bit.
So for my name schemes in regards to POTO, a lot of them derive from a the simular letters/sounds. I had in mind that I wanted them to all be variations of the same “language.” A lot like how Latin is. For POTO the language isn’t real (yet) but I wanted it to be believable. As it’s pretty obvious with the country names, a lot of ‘ae’ ‘v’ ‘i”. That’s the kinda back bone of the fictional language, which I then gave their own little spins to. Giving them their own different, but same feel to them. It also helped flesh out the language even more, giving it a lot of S’s and Z’s— which more on that later. As for how I got to the final names, I went through a lot of Generators and found even more sounds I liked. I also looked up different languages and listen to the sounds of their words through google translate. Another big help is dissecting real life words, much like I did with the generator. Even better if they have meanings that a line with said culture. The city Pyros in POTO is ripped straight from pyromaniac. The most associated character with Pryos is Zemorri, who is associated with fire and dragons. Now that I have an even better base of my language, I moved on to Character names.
For this part, I’m going to use Zrato/Irayo, Zaentriaean, Iveaenian, and Oscai names.
So back to my mention of S’s and Z’s. In my little fictional Latin, I decided that S and Z were once the same letter, but as the people who spoke the language moved around the Nite Region, they became two separate sounds and letters. A very weird bit of lore, but it helps tie it all together in my opinion. The Z tends to be used in Vultis the majority of the time, and S everywhere else. Vultis takes a lot of inspiration from ancient middle east, think Sumerians, Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. So I based their language off of modern day Arabic and Farsi, with a hint of Hindi as Vultis is a very large country (an empire if we’re being real here) and so I wanted different regions to have different vibes. So mixing all of that together, there’s so much to pull from, along with my fictional Latin to help guide me. There’s so much that goes into a Zrato/Irayo name because of how much I pull from, so I’ll go over the more notable names. Obviously, we have Zemorri, which have the “Ze” we see a lot. “Morri” actually came from Momemto Mori because it fit his character arc well. From Zemorri, I got Zevetta, which is a bit more melodic than most of the Zrato/Irayo names, but I ended up giving her region of Vultis more melodic names, so it works in my mind. I also got Xenari, Nazari both following similar melodic vibes. Ivemaar, “i” and “v” fit within the scheme, and “maar” come from the Farsi influence (also apparently means snake.) There’s a few odd ones that I got just some combining random sounds until I got something I liked, that being Qhuirex and Rhiari.
So Zaentriaean names tend to have the typical elf feel. I decided they would favor the “ae” sound, and pretty much ran with that. I did draw inspiration of Valerian names from ASOIAF, because they’re so pretty. As for how I come up with them, I will literally sit and combine all sorts of mashed up words until I think it sounds pretty.
So I actually already had Sciosa as a name from a long ago scrapped wip when I was in middle school, so how I thought of it I couldn’t say. But it did give me some great material for Ivaenian names. I was able to play around with the S and Ci of it, which got me Cyren, Cyn. I love the way “il” sounds and looks, so I combined it with is ‘os’ from Sciosa, and I already had two names with y. So “Ilyos” was born. Ryon is literally just Ryan but I didn’t want to just name him Ryan, and A’s are more Zaentiraeal than Ivaenia, so I swapped the a for o, which is littered through out Ivaenia names. Ivaenia still has some of the Zaentiraeal feel to it, and so some of their names to have “ae.” My thought process is those closest to the kings off dawn king to have more names influenced by the kings of dawn. The further removed, ei. A commoner, or nobility that lives to the north and thus closer to Zenier, the more Zaentriaean their names will be. The Kings of Dawn are often thought of as gods living amoung mortals, and with the common practice of not naming your kid too closely to a god’s name, I can see commoner’s erring onto the side of caution, while nobility who is around the chaotic family, feel like they are on the same playing field. (I have mentioned Nelia and Nae’lia in a previous post but that is the only exception to the practice)
Oscai names! So this one is actually the most straight foward. They’re all Latin, or Latin-esque names. I throw in a few C’s S’s V’s and so on from the other names, but they all derive from Latin.
Okay! I hope this was helpful, I tried to explain my thought process behind it all. It’s really just a bunch of sounds and me sitting at my desk talking gibberish to myself until something sticks. There’s also a lot of world building and lore behind it all which I think plays a big part. But my best advice is find languages, fictional or real, and dissect them into sounds you like. Okay I’m actually done now. I need food.

most of this stuff I have been sitting on since the finale aired (like the alchemical symbols, thank you FMA), but here's some additional thoughts on my research journey for The Transmogrification Ceremony (part one):

how Nandor knows how to read and write Ancient Persian Cuneiform…which would have been out of use roughly a THOUSAND YEARS before he was born 👀 👀
(not for the first time I have a very small suspicion of Nandor being older than he says he is…)
and he definitely knows what the basic alchemical symbols are b/c there’s no way he put the accurate corresponding cuneiform letters spelling english words for those elements on top of the symbols by accident!
the fact that the banners are all properly labeled, with the possible exception of one, is quite frankly both Doylistly and Watsonianly amazing
Nandor knowing at least the basics of alchemy isn’t actually that surprising. The Middle East, specifically Bagdad (which is located on the Tigris btw), was the foremost center of cultural and scientific knowledge (including big developments in alchemy) before the Mongols sacked Bagdad 4 years before Nandor would have been born.
Even after the sack, that knowledge and cultural need for learning didn’t just immediately dissipate and it would have still been an important city. Nandor, probably being born into a noble or middle class family, would have been educated in the sciences which would have included Alchemy. and if he wasn’t, as a ruler he would have had access to teachers and books to learn from. Nandor has always been curious, studious, and likes to read.
transmogrification is an actual alchemical term (webster's dictionary quote: transmute implies transforming into a higher element or thing. convert implies a change fitting something for a new or different use or function. transmogrify suggests a strange or preposterous metamorphosis) there's significance that can be read into this as the chosen title of Nandor’s made up ceremony if you’d like (other than it just sounds funny)
I was really impressed that the crew used actual Old Persian Cuneiform instead of the more popular Sumerian or Akkadian Cuneiform. technically Old Persian is just written with cuneiform-style symbols (much like modern Persian using Arabic-style symbols for their alphabet) and isn't cuneiform proper since it has it's own independently developed alphabet
a little disappointed that the cuneiform translated, not into Persian words, but to a rough spelling of English words for the elements already represented by the alchemical symbols (Earth, for example, would be būmiš = 𐏏, and instead here is just the symbols for 'I-A-R-T/th'. there is no 'E' in Old Persian cuneiform so 'I' substitutes)
tho I was delighted by the discovery that the cuneiform on the 'WATER' banner is close enough to اتر or ‘etir’, Persian for ‘ether’, that I don’t care if it’s a coincidence, i’m taking it
and you may be asking yourself if all the other banners just have rough phonic spellings of the elements the banner represents, why can’t ‘A-T-I-R’ (𐎠𐎫𐎡𐎽) just be a funky 'WATER' without the ‘W’? To that I say: yeah, maybe. There isn’t a corresponding cuneiform symbol for ‘W’ in Old Persian and the substitute of ‘I’ for ‘E’ is also used in ‘Earth’, so that isn’t a huge stretch. However, why not then use a ‘V’ 𐎺 or 𐎻, for 'W' instead of leaving the sound out completely?
Personally, I find the fact that the cuneiform translates more cleanly to an actual Persian word, and one that has huge significance to alchemy and the basic elements, too delicious to ignore. Unless wwdits crew clarifies that (which I would go feral for the opportunity to interview for all the little beautiful details and great work that they do), I’m going with the 'WATER' banner having ‘ETHER’ in cuneiform instead
(and yes i’m aware that ‘A-T/th-I-R’ could just be ‘E-T-H-E-R’ on it’s on and have nothing to do with the Persian word ‘e-t-e-r’ but why ruin the fun?)
I'm using a very loose interpretation for Ether = The Soul which also describes it as the 'Fifth Element' (insert Multi-Pass joke here), or quintessence, and kind of develops into a 'heavenly spirit' kind of essence later. Strictly speaking Ether describes a 'void or nothing, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial space' but describing it as The Force isn't as significant in the wwdits universe than representing Guillermo's soul
in mythology Aether is the 'pure, fresh air that the god's breathed', different from the air mortals breathed. In Greek mythology he is the son of Darkness and Night and is the primordial personification of the bright upper sky. In Orphic cosmogony he was the son of Time and the brother of Chaos, and he was basically pregnant with the Great Cosmic Egg, of which Phanes the 'First Born God of light and goodness' came from
so there's...that
the use of the cuneiform symbol for ‘new word’ ( 𐏐 ) in front of ‘A-T-I-R’ is interesting and i’m not sure of the significance of it. In cuneiform there is no space between words, so each new word is signified by this symbol, but obviously there is no use of the symbol when each banner only has one word each. and there isn’t any other cuneiform symbol that looks like it either (which makes sense since it’s used for clarification not create typos). it’s an interesting little bit that i’m fascinated with
i did check to see if the (𐏐 ) symbol has a phonic sound to it that might have represented the ‘w’ in Water, but found nothing.
my reading is that it’s being used in the spirit of the meaning and is signifying that the following cuneiform is not related to alchemical symbol of water, like the other ones are. which would track if the cuneiform is translated as ‘ether’ instead
Old Persian cuneiform is read left to right like english, unlike modern Persian, that is read right to left. so that originally confused me, especially since I started with 'AIR' which is backwards to begin with lol
the banner for 'AIR' being backwards is literally only noticeable by the cuneiform symbol for A being inverted 𐎠 (it's the last symbol on the right and has the triangle head starting from the right instead of the left). The same symbol is seen in the 'EARTH' banner turned right. There is no symbol in Old Persian cuneiform that would look like that and sure enough, when flipped, the translation only makes sense as 'AIR'.
that was either a mistake by Nandor, the crew. or on purpose by Nandor, the crew. or some combination thereof. (alchemy having significance with things being backwards does not make that choice easy tbh, but what that significance would be if on purpose ??? idk)
if you’re wondering, I did check to see if anyone else had their bondage-rope-capes-things tied into a bow around their necks like Guillermo. from what I can tell only Nadja and Derek do? Nadja has a big lovely bow which would have been tied by her husband and I’m assuming the awkward limp bow Derek wears is tied by himself. everyone else does not have the Shibari rope completely tied around them. i’m assuming there is wire around the collar holding the shape of them. again, looking into that little detail, if we are taking the Suspiria bondage costume more literally, tracks as Nadja has her loving husband Laszlo to tie her in a beautiful piece, and Derek with his s&m collar, is the picture of a sad sub tying himself up because he has no one else to do it for him
Most importantly however, is that Nandor does not have a tied knot, which confirms to me that he dressed himself without any help from Guillermo and that makes me sad. but then also adds significance to Guillermo being tied in so lovingly:
Nandor makes every last detail here about Guillermo and not himself. it’s almost too much, with how selfish Nandor is in the previous seasons. season 4 especially, what with that ‘you have to make everything in my life about you’ line from Guillermo. but here Guillermo is the special one and Nandor makes sure that every single bit of theater is for, and about, him.
the symbols that I think Nandor is referring to when he says he doesn't know what they mean, are the top symbols, which I will be getting to in my part 2 👍

Forugh Farrokhzad, a famed Iranian poet, committed her rather short life to poetic justice in its various forms. Whether through her bare articulation of female desire or her advocacy for a world free of capitalist excess, she imagined a liberated world during a highly tenuous period of global history. Farrokhzad established herself clearly in modern Persian poetics via her integration of this exact controversial content into traditional written forms, such as chaharpareh. Though most celebrated for her lettered arts, Farrokhzad likewise dabbled in filmmaking in Iran and much of Western Europe, including France, Germany, and Italy. Her most viewed film, The House is Black (خانه سیاه است), juxtaposes the life of Iranians in a “leper colony” with words from the Old Testament, the Qu’ran, and her poetry. Predicated on a controversial move in-and-of-itself — placing one’s own verbal creations alongside venerated scriptures — Farrokhzad’s film received little acclaim in Iran at the moment of its release (1963). It has, however, since accumulated attention in the international film community, most recently taking the big screen at the Venice International Film Festival. And thus, although Farrokhzad passed at the early age of thirty-two, her words, memories, and imaginations live beyond her. They, in fact, travel back to Italy, a primary locus of her filmic inspiration.
This weekend, my friends and I gathered to watch خانه سیاه است. The black and white film proved an enjoyable, if jolting, experience. From it, I learned much about particular loci of Iranian religious practice prior to the 1979 revolution. Farrokhzad aptly shows how the populations suffering from leprosy at the time were both abandoned by mainstream Iranian society, and simultaneously, did everything they could to maintain some sense of cultural normalcy. Religion seemed to be a primary vehicle for that assimilationist drive, offering a universal pathway towards oneness in culture and spirit. The film includes many scenes of prayer, much of which are familiar to me. I gained new exposure, however, to the sound of Muslim prayers in the Persian tongue. Though the words are largely the same, their pronunciations differ, both due to a Farsi accent and the disabilities experienced by those in the colony. That latter point particularly stuck out to me, as it highlighted the mechanisms through which this disease dug deeply into Iranian society’s function, so much so that many experienced a permanently changed tongue.
The illness required a new language that foregrounded creation. Out of some level of inevitable decay, she seems to say, the Iranian people, no matter their condition, will create again. The film, therefore, highlighted a mix of religion, gratitude, and struggle in Iran during the historical period. I began to thus think of the Islamic Revolution and the fact that Farrokzhad’s film was produced shortly before its outset. 
At a practical level, the film also offered exposure to the Persian language. It was fruitful to concentratedly listen to poetry, the Qu’ran, and other scripture in fluent Persian. The movie also displayed Farsi writing in children’s classrooms, although briefly. Nonetheless, I was able to pick up, at least partially, on the ways in which young Iranians learned the language. Such an exercise proved productive as I undertake a similar endeavor. Though watching the film felt somewhat natural to me, given that I have studied Farrokhzad in other contexts, my friends noted their surprise that Iranian women were creating films and displaying themselves therein for seemingly time immemorial. My experience with the film, therefore, presented the opportunity to emphasize the fact that women and other minorities have always existed as productive forces in “Middle Eastern” society. They are intentionally made less visible by the Orientalist powers-to-be in both the “Western” and “Eastern” cultural hemispheres. By engaging with their films and the language they require, then, we have the opportunity to unearth history otherwise condemned. I learned, too, that Farrokhzad’s poetry was banned in Iran after the 1979 revolution. The experience, then, was educational to the extent that it brought Farrokhzad’s trying words to the small world of Philadelphia, if for a moment. 
Although the movie was novel in its style, following some mixed thread of Iranian modernism and neorealism, it did resemble aspects of Arab visual culture. We, too, tend to integrate poetry, essential to our linguistic tradition, into all artistic mediums. It was exciting to experience Iranian poetry in this familiar venue, understanding the ways in which Farrokhzad might have imagined her words taking material form. I look forward to exploring more Iranian poetry and film in the future. For your viewing, I have attached a link to the short film alongside some screen captures of moments and words I found notable.
Farrokhzad’s film offers an immersion into Iranian poetics, film, and politics at a turning point in the country’s history. It is an important reminder of the role women have historically played in global cultural production and a formidable opportunity to expose oneself to diverse usages of the Persian tongue.

What pet do you think Sebastian would have if he brought it to Hogwart’s? We know that Ominis supposedly has a toad with him. It would be interesting to see what dynamics they have with each other’s pets.
Also what do you headcanon for your Mc’s pet that might add to the dynamic? My Mc has a mean owl that everyone is afraid of and it mainly listens and is all sweet to her.

Well, my personal HC for all of them would be:
Ominis:
Though Hogwarts is very against this pet, Ominis's is infact a snake, its a little albino viper snake called Zmija (croatian for snake) which he keeps in his dorm room safe and sound, when he's having a bad day he likes to sit on his bed holding her, and has had many conversations with her over his time at Hogwarts, that snake knows many secrets of his.
Sebastian:
Sebastian keeps it simple, he has a Great Horned owl named Finneas, he originally got him because he looked "Menacing and mischievous" due to the angry looking eyebrow feathers, but in reality Finneas turned out to be abit of a "couch potato" he just sleeps and eats, and doesn't do much else, even requesting it does something for him like take a letter somewhere seems to be such a huge inconvenience to Finneas, which has lead Sebastian to have to beg him to do it for treats, but Seb still loves him, and he loves Seb, he loves head pats, Sebastian has spent many hours sitting on the window sill petting him.
MC:
MC has a black persian cat named Reign, pompous little thing it is, it doesn't like anyone but MC, and she'll go out of her way to make other peoples lives inconvenient, sitting on their stuff and not moving, and giving them a little hiss if they try to touch her, only MC gets to touch her, she also purposely tries to irritate Sebs owl by trying to play with his tail feathers. She adores MC though, and is always purring in her presence and wants fuss and attention from her.
When it's comes to how they feel about eachothers pets, Sebastian and Ominis both tolerate Reign lmao, they try to pet her but she either gives them hiss or walks away from them, as I said, she'll have nobody touch her other than MC, MC and Ominis both get on and love Sebs Owl, Finneas is just so chill to be around and enjoys love and affection from anyone. And when it comes to Zmija, Ominis keeps their bond extremely private, he will rarely get her out of her vivarium in front of others, and doesn't like others touching her, not even Sebastian or MC, and thats a choice Ominis has made, though not just anybody can talk to snakes, he still has this strange irrational thought that his secrets will get out.

director’s commentary on her design:
- i made her design based on ancient persia since I want to make roxy a manticore, which originates from ancient persia. this works bc the sphinx is also present in ancient Persian mythology.
- sphinxes in ancient persia are typically depicted as being the guardians of kings and therefore I made her default outfit based on a reconstruction of a noble woman’s outfit from the achaemenian era (totally not bc i couldn’t find any other clothing references…) and her fancy outfit is loosely based off of a noble woman’s outfit from the parthian era.
- i made her name in the style of a traditional persian last name. i used the “al” prefix to preserve the first two letters of lalonde and ended it with an “i” because: A) it’s a common suffix in Persian surnames and B) because it was my attempt at preserving the “de” ending sound of lalonde. “mardi” comes from the persian word for manticore, to add a monster aspect into her name and connect her with roxy. i’m kinda sad i couldn’t make her surname closer to lalonde but you gotta do what you gotta do
- the stone on her main outfit’s necklace is based on the anachitis stone, a stone used by magi (a group of people in ancient persia known for being priests and performing magic) to conjure spirits from water. this combines rose’s interest in dark magic as well as rose’s associated classical element AS WELL AS being related to ancient persia so this detail was just too perfect not to add.
also pls understand that i did all of this research just for this design and that most of my sources were wikipedia so this info might not be super accurate. if you notice any inaccuracies in my info, pls lmk!!! ill update this post with corrections as needed :]

my 2023 favs
i will focus on books because i don't really listen to music much, when i do lately it's a lot of Mina or some ambient/jazz to study. i also happen to forget about the movies i watch lol. The first book i want to mention is "Le italiane si confessano" by Gabriella Parca, a collection of letters that italian women would -almost always- anonymously send to newspapers in the 50s/60s in hope they'd offer them a solution to their sufferings. It's nothing extraordinary per se (considering it's just an assemblage), but i think it's the rawness with which these letters are presented that impressed me. The author is absent, but her intention is loud. She leaves the readers alone with their own personal and inevitable final considerations. You cannot read this and still think Italy is a sane country. I also loved "Maybe Esther" by Katja Petrowskaja, which i read both in german and italian. Katja was born on my same day and -as stupid as that may sound- i felt connected to her through her writing style straight away. I took that as a sign i would love the book (and i did). She took me with her in her search for her family history. it's an intense work that i couldn't stop reading. i've found in her my same pride in knowing i come from a long secuence of admirable people and just like her i continuously keep track of who and where i come from, without rest. My last mention is "The enlightenment of the greengage tree" by Shokoofeh Azar. I loved the touch of magic realism that immediately made me think of an iranian One hundred years of solitude (intent which the book itself confirms between the lines). I could just connect the dots with my hispanic american literature's knowledge and it was so fascinating. Azar introduced me to persian folklore and gave me a better understanding of Iran's history through the desperation of a family that keeps living after its physical death. She succeeded in letting pages and pages of layered and oblique realities (that i usually cannot stand) be light and pleasurable.

GOLNAZ FATHI, Iranian artist, b 1972.
While studying Graphic Design at Azad University in Tehran, Fathi, always fascinated by the expressive potential of traditional Persian calligraphic forms, immersed herself in a sustained six-year study of traditional calligraphy. She then became one of only a tiny handful of women trained to the highest level within that discipline. Despite this Fathi felt the need to expand her practice and developed an idiom of her own with large, bold abstractions. In recent work Fathi developed the technique of Siah Mashgh, a dedicated practice of repeating letters over and over until the ink creates a densely textured, solid black impression. Fathi’s hand movements form uncompromised gestures, emerging out of the deep layers and attempt to capture a thought, emotion, or sound. Undertaken with the same consideration, each work is densely inscribed with potential meanings allowing unrestrained imaginative possibilities.
