Can dYdX (DYDX) make money from Perpetual Contract Trading?
Can dYdX (DYDX) make money from Perpetual Contract Trading?
dYdX (DYDX) is a decentralized finance protocol and trading platform built to cash in on perpetual contracts. A Perpetual Contract is a cryptocurrency futures contract with no expiration date. Hence, a Perpetual Contract is a futures contract that can theoretically last forever. A Perpetual Contract’s value comes from the crypto asset they base it on. For example, a one Ethereum Perpetual…

-slamming bolt upright in a cold sweat- what do you mean verbal contracts cleo. what do you MEAN verbal contracts cleo. artists if you're doing commercial work you're A) charging much higher rates and B) making them SIGN A CONTRACT, right? right? you understand why that's VITAL, right? why having a written contract is VITAL for commercial work? you understand? you make them sign a written contract? please if you go looking in proper artist/graphic design circles i'm sure you can find a basic form that's legal in your locality and doesn't require you talk to a lawyer but if you're doing commercial work you're MAKING THEM SIGN A CONTRACT RIGHT--

I did not fully appreciate Mary Malone when I was a kid. She quit being a nun, which probably lost her her entire support network and possibly family. She's a single woman in the 90s with a PhD working in theoretical physics. She tells a guy who offers her military funding to fuck off. She's immediately ride or die for a random 12 year old who shows up in her lab, says she's from another universe, and solves all her problems by giving her new worse problems. She truly embraces the ethos of "if it sucks hit the bricks" and spends the entire third book chilling doing experimental xenoanthropology and having a lovely time. She is probably going to be flat broke when she gets home.

Way back when, I watched Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996-2003) on TV as it came out. Several years ago I decided to rewatch it and learned all the songs had been pulled out of it due to the license expiring or not including the use in DVDs so finding the OG version as it was intended involved VHS recordings from the late 90s/early 00s.
This has also been prevalent in dubbed anime since at least the 90s. Dub companies didn't/couldn't license the music so they made their own instead (how we got the chanting Escaflowne opening song and the One Piece rap, among others). DVD releases tended to get the rights but for TV, companies often made their own.
It was a new industry and not much money was there so licensing songs and dealing with record labels wasn't something that could/would be done. There were also cases where a song could be licensed in one country but not another so it was easier to add one in that could be used everywhere and not run the risk of violating the licensing contract.
What I'm saying is this isn't a new issue. It's been happening since at least the 90s. It's only being noticed more now because licenses from media from the 90s and 00s are expiring in chunks given the licenses tend to be for 10-30 years (meaning expect more to expire in the coming years).
There was that issue several years ago where Guitar Hero or another music rhythm game lost rights to multiple songs so those were either patched out or new presses/releases didn't include them.
Which isn't to say I agree or support this, just that it's been happening for decades quietly so it's been known removing music would ramp up hard the moment licenses started to expire en masse.
you know how you can go and watch a movie you watched a bunch as a kid and the version of a song in it is different? like they actually changed it since you were a kid? that isn't normal. we didn't do that until like, the last ten years. it's fucked up.
#a lot of the licensing issues are due to record labels not individual performers to#keep in mind many licenses were signed by the same people who thought suing a person for $$$ for downloading one (1) song was fine#so people who were very litigious and looking to make as much money as they could and being very protective of 'their' stuff#('their' is in quotes because it's the performers' stuff and they got/get paid crumbs for it as the record label has control over the song)#plus technology reached the point where songs weren't hard-coded into the rest of the show/movie thus could be removed#people say the use of pop songs will age a show/movie too much but i just wonder what will happen when the license expires#because few licenses are in perpetuity so expect another batch of things losing songs in the 2040s/50s#because some execs kicked that can down the road to make as much money as they could in the 2010s#the 80s and 90s were making things up as they went along and a mix of assuming things were for the lifetime of the media#and others wanting set terms so the rights returned to them after a couple decades#guess which side won that 'war'#also one of the reasons for all the redubs is because some/all the original dub had the license expire#and/or because the new dub would mean paying fewer royalties and a new contract favouring the company#but with anime specifically knowing the original song was a sign of how big a fan you were#given vhs fan rips/subs/dubs were how you got that info and the internet was barely a thing#it meant you could either go to japan or lived somewhere that had an anime import store that could get it for you#anime specifically is a licensing nightmare and there's tons of shows in limbo because no one knows who has the rights#and no one wants to make the first move 'cause they'll probably be sued and the whole thing will turn into a lengthy and expensive process

Unlocking Perpetual Futures Contracts: Essential 2024 Guide for Beginners
Tumblr media
Are you ready to take your trading to the next level with a financial instrument that offers endless opportunities and flexibility?
Perpetual futures contracts have emerged as a revolutionary tool in the trading arena, particularly for cryptocurrency enthusiasts. These contracts, unlike traditional futures, do not have an expiration date, allowing traders to hold positions indefinitely. This feature provides a significant advantage, enabling continuous trading and the ability to take advantage of long-term market trends. The funding rate mechanism, which periodically adjusts to keep contract prices in line with the spot prices of the underlying assets, ensures a balanced and fair trading environment.
Leverage is a key feature of perpetual futures contracts, allowing traders to control larger positions with a smaller capital investment. This can significantly amplify profits, but also poses a risk of larger losses, making risk management a crucial aspect of trading these contracts. The real-time mark-to-market settlement process adjusts traders' margin balances continuously, ensuring that gains and losses are promptly accounted for. This mechanism helps prevent sudden liquidations and keeps traders informed about their margin requirements.
Despite the numerous benefits, perpetual futures come with their own set of risks, including market volatility and fluctuating funding rates. Traders must have a solid understanding of these risks and employ effective strategies to mitigate them.
Intelisync, a pioneer in blockchain technology and exchange development, offers advanced solutions to enhance the security and functionality of perpetual futures trading.
