If you're only commenting on a fic to ask for an update or worse, to be passive-aggressive about wanting an update, then please do both yourself and the writer a favor and don't comment at all.

Saying things like "Can't wait for the next update!" as part of a comment about how you enjoyed the chapter is one thing, but just going into the comments and being like "Where's the update?" or "You haven't finished writing the next chapter yet?" or something similar is not only rude, but also I ASSURE you it only serves to make the writer anxious about writing at all.

Fic writers are not content creators. We're not robots. We're real people with careers, families, and other irl responsibilities. Writing is something I do in my thirty minutes before I go to bed to wind down from the day. Whatever I want to write that evening is what ends up getting written.

So by making me anxious and putting pressure on me to update a fic, especially in that passive-aggressive way that so many people do, all you've ensured is that when I open up my folder that evening to see what I feel like writing, my eyes will completely skip over that WIP that I got the rude comment on that day because I Feel Bad about it and now I don't want to even look at it.

So please, just follow the golden rule of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

yeah i wasn’t kidding when i said these would be coming soon. <- haha funny joke marshall. so!! remember when i said that this post would be coming out last weekend? guess whose tablet broke a few days after saying that! so sorry for the delay!! this is long overdue. here’s a link to the drive, as always! everything in this part of the update should be in the miscellaneous folder (outside of the menu icons, which are in the menu folder. wauaua).

so! all of this was already done by the time i posted the enemies. the delay isn’t *entirely* because of the tablet issues, i just managed to get distracted by making: even more redraws! i’d say new update soon but after what happened last time i shouldn’t jinx myself. but! almost All of the art for the initial mod release is done!!!! exciting!!!!!!

please be nice to me (silly) this is my first time doing frame by frame animation in… give or take 5 years? i followed the original animations pretty closely, so they don’t look Awful but i am Aware of the jank. i’m not an animator!!! they’re Good Enough for my purposes.

hey did you know that the original teleport map is slightly off center. did you know that. that’s not the case for the redraw for the record but it did make things a little harder. despite that, i think you can tell i was having fun with the dormont part of the map. i would’ve put more detail into the house, but we never really get a more detailed look at it??? and i didn’t want to make assumptions. so that part’s just traced from the original 👍. anyways shoutout to the clocktower being Curved for whatever reason

outside of those, all of the added art is actually just spritework. i didn’t know this at first, but there’s a TON of copies of sprites from the icon set. Basically Everywhere. so those are added now! and should work properly! also added a few sprites that were Missing from my original batch. not going to put them all here, but a few Important ones (which i actually had to make new art for) are the rock paper scissors cheatsheet, the Larger versions of the craft signs (used in the calamité fight and. probably somewhere else idk), and the craft signs for the tutorial kid fight!

aaaand i think that’s it! for stuff from this update. yeah no there’s more coming buddy. my tablet already broke one time this week there’s no way it’s happening twice. i’m not working on portraits Just Yet (though the temptation has been There), but i’ve got the title screens, a few backgrounds, and the ending cgs done! along with a few other assorted cgs sketched out. because im out of my fucking mind. so, uh, see you soon!! enjoy!!

At what point do you think Eliot fully trusted each member of the team? Do you think Sophie was the last, given what happened at the end of season 1?

i think people get the meaning of that line wrong, where eliot implies he doesn't trust sophie. to quote john rogers on the matter:

and yeah, exactly. i think the same basic principle applies to the rest of the team. eliot is never going to trust any of them fully - that's not his job. his job is to backup, is being a failsafe, and that means having some working knowlege of where everyone is likely to slip up.

heck, look at the R2 finale. that plays out how it did precisely because eliot didn't trust sophie, eliot knew she was at risk of cutting arthur way too much slack. it's not a personal slight on sophie; he just knows her. he knows all of them. knows their strengths, knows their weaknesses, knows who he can lean on for what. sometimes they surprise him - but you have to remember that on the whole, eliot is an extremely emotionally intelligent character. he's pissed at sophie at the end of season one, and to be honest it's justified - but what it does is inform the limits of what trust he does have in sophie, and that's important. prior to it, it's not that he did implicitly trust her in those areas - just that that was yet to be decided. part of getting to know people is filling out those blindspots.

that said, i think there is definitely a period of time wherein eliot's still growing into working with a team. but by the time events hit the point in the show where things truly are down to the wire, he's got the beats of everything down. look at how neat and tidy his plan is in the zanzibar marketplace job - look at what he offers to do in maltese falcon - look at just the WHOLE of gone fishing, and the fact that he doesn't cut and run as other events in season three progress.
