If I keep seeing people (largely Americans and Canadians, let’s be real) 1:1 compare the Israel-Palestine conflict to the colonialisation of Canada and America I might actually explode. As a First Nations woman with multiple history degrees and a law degree I can tell you with certainty that from every angle it is an utterly asinine and disingenuous comparison that doesn’t work, at all. The fact that people often cast Palestinians in the role of “poor oppressed colonised people” and Israel/Jews as a whole in the role “evil oppressive white coloniser” just makes it even worse, especially since Jews have lived in and occupied Israel before both Islam and Christianity even existed. So if you really want to play the “who was there first game” and boil everything down to that, I promise you, Jewish people will win that game, as they were there for thousands of years before the idea of Islam was even a glimmer in Muhammed’s eye.

I think on the whole, the main reason AO3 should have not unilaterally decided to seperate the 'trilogy' of Chris Evans Captain America movies from BNW and any future (currently unannounced and not at all guaranteed btw) Anthony Mackie led movies is the optics.

AO3 and it's user base- and fandom in general (I've listened to my fandom elders talk about livejournal and I was on ff.net personally)- have had issues with how real life people of colour are treated in their spaces before. These spaces treatment of characters of colour are often indicative of their lack of care for real people who share their characteristics, and funnily enough that lack of care also impacts the experience of real life white fans of these characters of colour as well.

Regardless of how much easier their tag wrangling team thought this would make Chris Evans fans lives -I don't think they put a lot of thought about how this would affect Sam Wilson fans at all.

Sam Wilson is not a real person, but boy does he make a lot of real world bigots mad. Ever since the comics Sam Wilson became the third character to take on the mantle of Captain America - there's been pushback from real life audiences who claimed that for some reason giving the Shield to a Black man was going a step too far, and this is unfortunately a trend that continues with some of the MCU audiences as well. Sam doesn't actually have to deal with these people and the consequences of their whinin, but his fans do.

I just think if the wrangling team had taken the time to actually check in with the fans who actually write and read MCU Sam Wilson centered fic, it would have become clear very quickly that they were going to see the pushback they did.

It honestly feels like a background joke or storyline from a Marvel comic- in order to cater to fans who don't want to think about or interact with Sam now that he's taken on the mantle of Captain America a fansite has created a space to segregate all the fanworks from people who actually like Sam being Captain America pretending it's for their benefit, while actively ignoring that Sam has been a topic of fanworks for years and that Sam Wilson fans will have to interact with both spaces anyway as the majority of his content would have been prodced before the creation of the new space.

I'm not saying that's what the team wanted or intended to do, but optics don't care about your intentions. The impact of this- the inconvenience being pushed primarily into the shoulders of MCU Sam Wilson fans certainly is not improved by their intentions either. So regardless of their reasoning which I think is flawed anyway, the end result still sucks and also looks bad for them.

I also think it's telling that a lot of the people pushing back against the change on the announcement post are often recognizably consistent creators of MCU Sam fanworks.

It's possible that this might help some Sam Wilson fans yeah, but if a consistent theme across the people who support the change on the original post are that they're saying things like 'This isn't my fandom but spreading for awareness' or 'Sam's great but I don't want to read about him' I think that drives my point about the optics of this even further. Again especially considering that a lot of these works are going to continue to exist solely under the CEvans tag or across both tags anyway!

While I don't mind the "poor reading comprehension" jokes and there is something to be said about the reading comprehension overall dropping. I really dislike how it also became almost like an insult. I think an unintended side effect of "people on tumblr/the Internet have poor reading comprehension"/"piss on the poor" jokes is it emboldened some people to just be casually ableist and mock people with learning and intellectual disabilities.

I know the vast majority of these statements are either made as a joke or aren't ableist at all. But some of ya sound like you're one step away from mocking somebody for being "slow" and dropping the r slur.

yall im so happy... ive had my differences with my dad over the years (<- understatement) but my parents are currently living in like, the most inaccesible apartment ever (4 flights of old stairs, no elevator) and he's disabled and it's been breaking my heart to see him leave the house less and less. my mom just told me that they found a ground floor apartment for even cheaper than their current place so they're moving next month!!! i legit thought my dad would die in that apartment locked out from the outside world. it will be a lot easier for me to visit them and our cat too since the place is close to my place and i'm disabled too so the stairs are a huge deterrent, a lot of times i feel really lonely but i can't go visit my mom because physically i can't handle those stairs without needing to rest the rest of the day. i hate that apartment so much i feel like our QOL for me and my dad plummeted after we moved there (bc of money we didn't have a choice. our previous apartment was GREAT but way too expensive and the landlady would mentally torture my mom T_T). anyway!!! it's such random good news i'm so happy!!!!! yay!!!! *does a spin*

I forgot something funny that happened yesterday. There were some fuckass missionaries in my neighborhood yesterday.

Yes, they do climb fences and go into open garages here. They literally disrespect private property to proselytize. They especially love doing that in my town. Anyways Luthian busted out and said very loudly from the window, "Why the fuck are these gringos on our property?!" (They were definitely American and we're currently in PR and these rude af religious colonizing fucks can kiss our asses. Their invading asses are lucky I'm bedridden cos i would have used the Castle doctrine to shoot their asses for jumping over my fucking fence. As I was saying, my son busted out like that and he later told me during a laughing fit that those bible toting fucks jumped over the fence to leave our fenced property and even avoided it during the rest of their missionary bullshit.

Only political shit I'll ever do, and I'd just like to point out how Tumblr political posts work that's frustrating and why I'm blocking that shit.

Yeah, democrats aren't exactly great either, but that doesn't change the fact that voting republican in this day and age is significantly worse. Democrats win, you still have bombings and bad policies and shit, but you are also throwing a wrench into the republica cult bullshit and give our country a better chance of changing. Thins aren't going to magically get better with the "perfect" candidate, and waiting for that is going to make everything worse. And I guess I can't speak for others that intend to vote blue, but I am under no circumstances trying to say that voting blue is where "activism" stops. That's not going to fix shit. No one thinks voting blue is the solution, but that's not the fucking point. The fucking point is doing the literal bare minimum not to enable things getting worse.

If you need to clean your house after having a shitty roommate that never cleans and throws parties and let fucking roaches start living in the kitchen, and you only have enough time to do one chore that day (or week, whatever) are you going to roll up your sleeves and pick up the trash even though that doesn't get rid of the roaches, or are you going to bitch about having a filthy roommate and spend your time online instead of doing literally the bare fucking minimum?

I've seen a few FEW even suggest alternative activism, like actual protest or calls to action, or whatever, and in my house cleaning metaphor that's like going out shopping to stock up on trash bags and cleaning spray and shit, maybe organizing your junk, but not actually addressing the very real and immediate "just clean up so it doesn't get worse".

Maybe in this metaphor, voting blue is more akin to washing any new dishes you're making instead of piling them up on the dishes already in the sink for "later". Like, don't bother voting, we're already calling and protesting and trying to do activism that is both slow and so far not very successful, so eventually the person in charge will be better there's no reason to avoid letting a literal cult figure head back in office. Don't bother doing the dishes, eventually someday my executive disfunction will let me clean all of it in one big go.

Then of course there's the people saying "we just need to burn it all down and create a system that isn't inherently awful and bad", which, yeah. Okay. You're right that would be great. So glad you're on the same page as the rest of us, but come back when you acknowledge that burning your house down to get rid of the roaches and trash and probably black mold in the walls is just not going to happen. Like, realistically, in the real world, that's just not going to happen. We can talk about it all da and how correct you are, you can have all the correct points you want, you can win that game, but you do know that is just not going to happen, right? And waiting for THAT is like waiting for your parents to suddenly take responsibility for everything they fucked up with you, on their own, and pay for all your therapy.

I'm just tired of seeing all the arguments saying "liberals are stupid as fuck because they don't realize their candidate is also Bad(tm) and they need to stop telling people it's important to vote blue". They know their candidate has flaws. They're just don't worship their candidate like a fucking cult.

If you aren't going to vote blue, what the fuck are you going to do? Vote red? Vote on a third party (which is basically voting red)?
