Honestly I getting this and this is probably why I don't read these type of AUs either. When I fall in love with a piece of media enough to write fanfiction for it (I write more than I read) it isn't about the characters in a vacuum. The world must also be compelling. Who a person is its so intrinsically linked to the world they grew up in and the world they live in, if normal college isn't already a part of that world it has no place in involving these characters. Unless you are taking those characters out of time and space and displacing them into a modern college AU where they are more concerned about how the hell they got there, pass. Or perhaps a version of whatever a "college au" would be for their world.

Are you really writing about these two unique characters or are you just writing something that could apply to literally any two characters ever and you're just slapping their names on?

is this ship popular because it’s legitimately compelling or is it popular because it’s the easiest to decontextualize and write college roommate AUs about?

My one solid "I won't take other opinions you're wrong" take on murderbot is that it was a MISTAKE rewriting the scene where mensah followed it after the creature attack. Taking away how pitiful and sad and pathetic murderbot's narration of that whole scene was??? Why??? For what??? Why make the cubicles cool looking futuristic platforms that yes are Uncomfortable Vibes Conceptually, especially since it's naked in them, when that doesn't hit nearly as hard as it being a Cubicle that being in is Sad and Pathetic and Lonely feeling. Why take away how murderbot slunk back to its little closet and huddled in an emergency shock blanket leaking all over and was So weirded out at being checked on and was caught between being put off by her behavior and being sure SHE was put off by it's injured appearance, meanwhile she is like "oh this thing looks so sad and pathetic and hurt and HUMAN."

EDIT: This meme is not about aroace people who are sex/date favorable. It's about the people who are constantly using "aroace can still date/have sex" to erase the representation of aroaces that don't feel that way. I don't believe romance/sex repulsed aroaces are better or "superior" to those who are.

Working next to TV displays in a store that are on video loops, and every time I look up to the biggest one, it's got this short video of a barn owl shaking its head. I wonder if the TV is just looping that one video, or just that one and the one after it that I usually looked back down before it came on.

Then I realize it's because I'm more likely to look up when the owl is on the screen. I have a few reasons to subconsciously start paying attention when I see an owl in the corner of my eye...

I haven't seen anyone suggest this yet, and probably someone has but I haven't seen it, but this lasts a month. Our engagement with these pitches lasts a month, and after that month, the one that has the most engagement wins.

Hopeful thinking, but

What if the one with the most engagement gets turned into a real show? Gets a real, full season?

I just want a full season of Katie DMing for Brennan Lee Mulligan, Aabria Iyengar, Jasmine Bhullar, Mark Mercer.

I think it would be fun.
