Olivia ran outside, back into the cold and the heavy rain. She stroked her damp hair furiously, a raindrop of which had fallen directly on her neck and made her jump slightly as she whipped out her cell phone and pulled all the units she needed for saving you towards her position.

Her stare lingered for endless seconds on a number, her heart screaming to not call it. But your life surpassed all doubts and with trembling and soaked fingers, she pressed the green handset of her display. The heavy tones echoed in her head and before she could even think about what to say, the person on the other end accepted the call.

"Stabler?" his voice was firm and direct, almost tense despite the crackling of the line and his footsteps in the background, presumably currently working on a case himself.

She coughed heavily, choking on the cold air that filled her lungs even before she managed to speak. The swift wind caught her in a flash and made her shudder. Same way as the worried and loud voice in her ear after she did not reply. "Liv? Liv, are you okay?!"

When the cold finally cleared her senses and calmed her troubled thoughts, she answered briefly in a shaky voice. "I need your help, you have to come here immediately. Y/n is in danger."

Olivia did not even wait for an answer from Elliot but quickly gave him your home address and hung up. She could not hold any sensible conversation now, she was too worried about your condition. The only thing enveloping in her head was a cloud of dark thoughts.

A silver, single-edged knife flashed in his hand. The steel blade was between 9 and 15cm long, tapered to a point; producing smooth cut surfaces.

Henry came closer before standing in front of you, not losing his sadistic grin. The man you once cherished as a friend and lover- you were so stupid and naive. "You know, babygirl. When my life goes down the drain, so does yours," he said quietly, looking at you with deep, clear eyes; they steadily darkened like the black of night.

You groaned from the oncoming pain. How were you supposed to respond if you did not have a chance to change anything about the outcome of this day? "Go to hell!"

His free hand wrapped around your throat, squeezing it while quickly lifting you to your feet. He drew the slightly rusted, jagged blade across your cheek in a straight cut. Blood spurted out immediately and you cried out in pain when his only answer was a cruel laugh.

Suddenly, the blade pierced your stomach. Then a second time. Your eyes opened wide, sucking in the air sharply. Your body was on fire. Aches and pains developing and chased through your body, that you never thought were possible.

There was no remorse or emotion on his face besides his smile, but his eyes radiated deep pleasure. The pain was indescribable, your screams died down to soft sobs. "Liv.." you breathed her name like it was the last thing escaping your lips forever.

"She will be late," he hissed happily, letting you fall back onto the floor.

Your blood dripped from the blade onto the already soiled ground. You looked back at his face one last time. It was darker and more terrifying than anything that existed before your head panted down to your stomach area. You saw a patch that was steadily expanding. First, it reminded you of an island on a map, then of a storm cloud spreading across your torn and soiled blouse.

"Farewell, sweetheart. It was fun playing with you," he said from the front door, where he was standing before he went through it and threw it close with a loud bang. He just left you laying in your own pool of blood.

Dying.

You stared at your hands, located on the floor beside your body, fingers that had started to tremble uncontrollably as the cold and creeping fear seeped through you. Groaning, you lay on the ground and struggled to breathe as another wave of pain swept through you. Your body cramped up. You were too weak to cry and too exhausted to keep fighting and scream.

You saw as if through a pane wet with rain, behind which the world blurred for you. Everything seemed crooked or oddly bulging and got worse with each second passing. Like a psychedelic caricature that fitted perfectly with the devastated present you would have to live in forever from now on. Or die if your frail body could not handle the constant loss of blood and you would not survive.

You closed your eyes, unsure if you would ever wake up again. You breathed loudly, faster but significantly shallower. The spasms left your limbs and you began to feel oblivious to the outside world. Relief filled your body, the piercing pain slowly fading into the back.

Snapetober Day 20 - Spider

There was a feeble light under the door, then a moving shadow obstructed it for a second or two. Mum was going down the stairs; Da was home.

Instinctively, he pulled his pillow over his head. He held on to it like a lifebelt and turned over in his bed, facing the window. 

The moon was almost full tonight. It cast a pale but luminous light into the narrow room, which he found comforting; he heard a door slam; the sound of a struggle.

There were no voices, no screams, nothing. Mum had not said a word. She had merely stood on the threshold and Da had pushed her, like he often did.

He did not understand why she kept going back. Sometimes she pushed Da, too. Sometimes Da was nice for weeks and all was well.

More struggle - more muffled protest. Then muffled moans.

He looked at the window obstinately. There was a big house spider who lived there, in a hole just to its right: she was out tonight. 

A Tegenaria domestica, mum had taught him.

There was the sound of broken glass, and a whimper. He watched as the spider slowly descended from the hole. A chair was knocked over. The spider was just in front of the moon; she looked as if she lived there, on a planet just her size. 

Some cursing - a scream, though muffled too.

He started humming.

The itsy bitsy spider crawled up the water spout.

Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.

Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain,

and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again.

It was hot, boiling hot in fact, by far the worst day this August. But he could not go outside, he was punished: he was not supposed to repair his bedframe, Dad had said. 

Dad had not cared about the fact the broken wood could not be fixed, and he had not bothered to look at Mum who stood in the corner, watching them yet again with a mournful expression.

He had not meant to fix it. He would not have dared to - not after Dad had broken it so badly. But he had wished it would be, and the next morning it just was. 

The spider was pleased, too. She used it to get back onto the wall and then, to her hole. He left a bottle cap filled with water in the corner for her.

Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.

He was fairly certain his father would snap his wand into pieces if he got his hands on it. He no longer had the option to store his stuff at Lily's, and he felt terribly vulnerable, with his books and cauldron and robes in that tiny room of his. His father didn't find it. He got mad. He reeked of cheap liquor; it was a bad combination.

He bashed his head against the wall. For a moment he could not see, or hear properly. But the tumult startled the spider and she fell out of her hole, right into his hair and then on the floor. His father took a step forward to slap him hard; the spider fled to the other side of the room, where his books and cauldron were. His father kicked into the heap savagely. He crushed the spider without even noticing.

He killed flies with his wand, staring mindlessly at the bloody spots they left on the ceiling. It didn't feel particularly nice. But he had to do the spider's job, now.

In the two years since my autism and adhd diagnosis, it’s been like coming home.

And like when you enter a house that has not been occupied for years, there is a fair amount of repair and clean up that needs to take place. But during that clean up, you remember things you’d forgotten or hadn’t realized (“Oh! What lovely crown molding!”; “Are these parquet wood floors?!”; “I used to dance around this wood stove”). So, even though it’s a pain in the ass and hard work to restore the home, allowing myself to muddle through burnout and skill regression has allowed me to fully inhabit this skin and brain I’m in.

it was only when you moved into a dorm on campus at the university of britechester, that you had the freedom to look into more comfortable living arrangements. you had spent more time than you’d like to admit researching the weather in the province, it had taken quite a bit to find any real estate agent for forgotten hollow, but you had managed. your agent had suggested a widowschild townhome at first, but you felt it was too small to be your forever home, so you signed for garliclauter place instead… though you had the name changed to bat orchid estate. you and your roommate had brainstormed for months for a suitable name but eventually thought to ask the real estate agent if any flowers were on the property, she had confirmed the only flowers were bat orchids, which were ironically a favorite of yours.

he laughs, his voice is deep and warm and it kind of gives you butterflies.

“you have no idea, trying to welcome the old owners to the neighborhood was hellish. why move to a perfect place for us if you’re scared, you know? i mean i get being nervous around vlad... the dude is a total creep but my sister and i aren’t like that. i don’t drink from humans unless it’s like dire… lils does but she gets consent first, it doesn’t hurt if you know what to do.”

you nod along, the way he relaxes at your easy acceptance of him is both sad and sweet. the oven timer beeps and you bend down to take both trays out.
