Here is my recap for Aaaand Action! (w/Paris Barclay).
This episode features one of the Glee directors, Paris Barclay. He directed 9 episodes of Glee.
Jenna bonded with Paris over Son's of Anarchy. He would bring her merch from the show.
He watched all of his episode to prepare for the podcast.
Kevin said the numbers Paris has in his phone are unreal.
Everybody loves him.
Where do we begin?
(I am going to add a warning. This episode gets quite heavy. They talk about Cory.)
Wheels was Paris's introduction to Glee. It was the first episode he directed.
Kevin jokes and says this was their introduction to acting.
Paris hadn't worked with before Glee. For some reason Ryan thought he would be perfect for the show.
Dante Di Loreto showed Paris a copy of the pilot of Glee. Paris was very moved and said he did not think there has been a show on television that he is better suited for.
Paris was the musical director for the acapella group at Harvard and worked on musicals. He thought he was on his way to being the black Stephen Sondheim.
Paris' first directing gig was directing Elizabeth Taylor in a commercial.
He left advertising and became a music video director. He then moved to directing television shows.
All of this was like a pretraining for directing Glee.
Paris didn't read the script for Wheels until he arrived at Glee. It wasn't intentional. He didn't get the script until he got to set.
He knew the basics of the story and the songs that would be used in the episode.
He was incredibly touched by the Burt and Kurt stories.
The episode was like a perfect storm.
The cast was nervous about Paris directing them. They quickly learned he is a very warm and very good at making people feel comfortable.
Paris told Jenna a story about Elizabeth story because she was worried about crying in a scene.
Paris said they were both great in Wheels.
Part of his goal when he got to the show was to keep it more real. This was a very grounded episode.
Glee was a different show every time he came to direct an episode.
Everyone was sleeping with someone different.
Kevin said they would just kick back and tell Paris all the gossip when he would come direct episodes.
Paris echoed what Ryan said about if the show had been done now there would be more protections for the cast in regards to the commercial exploitation of the cast.
Paris said they had counseling available while they worked on Dahmer because of the subject matter.
He said in Glee's case it would have been needed because of all the personalities on the show. Young people being young people.
Glee was different then anything else Paris worked on.
The biggest show he worked on that he can compare to Glee is ER.
The producers were extremely conscious of the fact that the storylines on ER reverberated with the fans. The actors were professional and the writers were disciplined. This set a tone for the rest of the show.
Glee didn't have that luxury. That creates an incredible amount of stress for every department. They all work under a lot of stress. The cast lived and worked in incredible stress and tension. The crew didn't have time.
In hindsight Ryan should have set more of a precedent of discipline for everyone else on the show.
Dancing With Myself looks so smooth. It takes many many meetings and planning to make it look that smooth.
Kevin had to rerecord that song because Ryan didn't like the first version.
In the middle of the episode the cast went to upfronts in New York.
Upfronts is where the advertisers come and every network flaunts out their new lineup to get the advertisers to by ad space.
The more musical numbers there were the more hell it was for the cast.
Proud Mary was like three numbers.
The quickly realized they couldn't do it on a flat stage. There was one version built but the ramps were too steep.
Amber fell to the side at one point.
Amber and Lea were completely displeased with the number.
Someone took too much Xanax.
There are a couple takes where everyone exhausted, there is another where Lea is clearly done, and another with Amber is messing with one of the straps of her costume.
At the start things were simpler and attainable by an actual high school student but things quickly went off the rails.
This episode was really well written.
It had heart. It had Kurt and Burt.
Mike has become a friend. He is just unreal. He just lifts up those moments. Kurt and Burt were a dream team.
One of Paris most fun days on set was Diva. It cracks Paris up. Jenna also loves this number.
Tina and Paris had a good run.
When Tina got a chance to shine she shone and it was always great when Kevin was allowed to sang.
Every episode Paris had, had some sort of monumental moment for on the show and behind the scenes for the cast.
Paris did the 100th episode.
He also did 2009.
2009 is Paris' 2nd favorite episode. It breaks his heart. It would have been a good ending for the series.
The episode was filled with easter eggs.
The shot 2009 and the finale in tandem.
Cory's death caused a big shift in the show.
Paris felt an enormous amount of guilt and like he hadn't done enough. He felt that he should have been more proactive.
He feels like he failed Cory.
He wishes he could have done more.
The moments Paris was there and filming were a gift for the cast. They opened up to him because he was so easy to talk to and made them feel comfortable.
The cast rarely misbehaved when Paris was around.
They thought the best of him and he brought out the best of the cast.
He was a reminder to the cast of why they were there. They had a lot of respect for Paris.
The show before Wheels was getting crazy and Paris brought it back to earth.
He grounded the cast.
Paris said he was doing it out of respect for the cast. The original cast was like lightening in a bottle. He recognized their talent. This won't happen again.
He came extremely prepared. He felt he owed it to the cast to be efficient. He went for simple shots so they could really work on the performance.
He realized they had the magic.
Kevin was the guinea pig for using slow motion on the show.
The behind the head shots were Paris figuring out how to switch between Rachel and Kurt during Defying Gravity. This was the second time they used the spotlights.
Paris said he would take Kristen over Gwyneth.
Gwyneth wanted to do Happy and that delated shooting because they had to get the rights for the song.
Paris' experience made the music numbers so much better. He knew what he was doing.
Paris like when things were rough around the edges.
Sometimes in the script they were told to mimic the rough style of songs like Dog Days.
Paris said Glee is emotional. Some shows he feels that was stressful or that was hilarious. He feels emotional about Glee and it's often tinged with sadness.
It's sort of like a longing for a period of youth you can't get back.
Paris says he wishes there was more forgiveness. He wishes that people would just let things go.
Robin, the actress that plays Jean shares a birthday with Paris.
The scenes with Jean and Lauren were really at the heart of Glee. It was Glee flexing it's real power.
Paris said it disappoints him to see the cast sniping at each other. He wishes they had more forgiveness.
Kevin said it's frustrating when people in their group have negative and dark feelings about the show. They were kids. Nobody was perfect. The show became way bigger then anyone could have imagined. Things went off the rails. That shouldn't take away from all the good that came from the show.
Kevin talks about getting to meet kids in wheelchairs because of Wheels. He says they got to be a part or impactful stuff every time Paris came to direct.
Glee went there. Paris said they should be really proud of that.
Ouches in Wheels - Burt saying You can't discriminate against my kid because of his sex, religion, or the fact that he is queer as a three dollar bill. Paris says he knows they meant it with love but it wouldn't be done today.
Artie saying I want to be very clear I still have the use of my penis.
Kevin said this was the first episode there was a lot of us in these moments.
When Finn says this one's for you Artie was very emotional.
Mercedes says what you need is my chocolate thunder and Shue responds they will find something to dip in chocolate. So very cringey.
Last Finn saying we are busy with homework, football and teen pregnancy. Cory was so good and does that line flat. Jenna loves his wheelchair kick.
The scene where Quinn and Puck are making a cake/ food fight was stopped by the director of photography because he thought the flour in the air could start a fire. The stopped filming and Paris didn't know what to do. He went to Dante. They had to bring the fire marshal in to decide if it was okay to keep filming. Apparently there is a chance the flour in the air along with the lights could start a fire. Paris came with adding the sugar to the flour and the fire marshal said it that would be fine.
They asked Paris to come back.
They talked about skincare.
Kevin talked about Paris being honored by the DGA. He said seeing the people that showed up for him made Kevin feel honored. He said getting to be a smart part in his reel meant a lot.
Paris said it was an exciting night. His said his family was excited to meet the Glee cast.
Kevin said he was on the verge of tears for most of the interview.

[PITCH]
Road Kings
What is it โ€”
A hard R action movie that deals in the illegal street racing of Mexico City with guns and squibs blazing in between.
Tumblr media
PREMISE:
Taking place in Mexico City with it serving as the backdrop to the world of street racing we see here, we follow a recently released convict, fresh off parole, nicknamed "Skinner" who's now looking to make it big in the criminal underbelly of illegal drag racing and get back in the game after losing it all and landing himself in prison.
It's through his actions in tracking down someone who was once a legendary street racer known as "Craven" that he ends up gaining the attention of a just-as-ruthless as he is crime boss who goes by the name of "Gecko" and getting a young boy involved that he befriends next door to his apartment who's neglected by his struggling, dysfunctional family.
As the cat-and-mouse activity escalates, Skinner is confronted with the consequences of what he does and now must make a choice between being the best racer on the block or the life of an innocent child he roped into this in the first place.
Tumblr media
NOTES/TRIVIA/DETAILS:
โ€ข With the cast and crew that I have so far, I want A). Freddy Rodriguez for the lead role of Skinner and Walton Goggins for the antagonist Gecko, B). Robert Rodriguez, Ilya Naishuller and Paris Barclay as potential directors for it, C). BT to do the music and last but not least D). have Nick Matthews, right off of Saw X, as the cinematographer.
โ€ข The influences for the movie overall are The Fast and the Furious, The Wild Bunch, Badlands, Dillinger and last but not least Breaking Bad, but at the same time it's obviously its own thing with its own style and most importantly its own grittiness with an added addition to it being โ€” heart.
โ€ข As for the violence in this movie, it will be the type of violence that I'm attracted to or more specifically my type of violence and that's brutal, vicious and visceral with the gore that is in the film when need be being genuinely nauseating.
โ€ข We'll obviously shoot this entire film on location in Mexico City itself because when you're actually there on these grimy streets rather than a stupid cheap ass set, it's real.
โ€ข Just for fun and inspired by an actual little known movie for once called Curdled, that references From Dusk Till Dawn, through news footage โ€” there will be a news report that brings up the events of three different pieces of media which strongly implies a direct shared universe, albeit retroactive. Why? Because once you know what they are than you know they're set in the same gritty levels as Road Kings..... is.

SAG/AFTRA and WGA Strike on the National Day of Solidarity
It was another day on the picket line as SAG/AFTRA and the WGA continue their long-running strike against the AMPTP. The fight for a fair contract and better pay rages on even as it looks as if no end is in sight. But, then again, it was not really another day as this was the National Day of Solidarity which not only brought these two unions together, but many others including the AFL-CIO, IATSEโ€ฆ

Fanfiction Masterlists
My old mega masterlist for all fandoms is broken due to the amount of links it contained. I'm in the process of rebuilding it and the situation got so complicated I had to create a new one because the original post wasn't saving any modifications.
You can revisit the old one here, but from now on I will update in the following separated masterlists:
Troy (2004) Masterlist
Prince of Persia (2010) Masterlist
Lord of the Rings Masterlist
Gladiator Masterlist
Cutthroat Island Masterlist
Horror Masterlist ( Includes Chucky, Stranger Things, Halloween and Friday 13th)
Marvel Masterlist ( Includes Netflix's Daredevil, X-Men and Thor)
Note:ย I keep requests permanently open for the less popular fandoms I write for. Media or characters hard to find fics for get this priority because i write for some that very few people or no one else are currently writing reader inserts for.

I still am seething Voyager's ending didn't at least show the crew seeing Earth again >:(
----
Lt. Reginald Barclay was one of the first to board the newly returned Voyager. He's one of the very few right now, the crew and ship still under quarantine to prevent any spread of foreign diseases that the crew had long been accustomed to. Barclay isn't a fan of the decon suit he has to wear, but is willing to overlook it because he can't wait to meet the crew for the first time.
Captain Janeway is the first one to greet him, her smile blinding as she watches the lieutenant exit the shuttle he'd arrived in with a box and enter a temporary hazmat area to prevent anything from slipping out into the shuttles that dropped by most days with supplies or medical officers. Her handshake is firm when he reaches out with a nervous smile, and Barclay can see she's happy for a fresh face.
"It is very nice to finally meet you Lieutenant."
"Likewise C-Captain." He reaches into the hovering large container he's brought with him, and pulls out a thermos. "Fresh coffee, I heard you're a fan."
She laughs, and accepts the thermos as if it's the most important thing she's ever held.
"I've been cleared to bring, to bring gifts for everyone from family and friends." Barclay declines to bring up how he basically had to guilt trip half of the upper command for this to happen, but it's of little consequence. "It's not much, but I thought you'd a-appreciate it."
"These will go a long way to boosting morale." Janeway motions for Barclay to come follow. "I will admit, the crew are eager to go home and breathe in fresh air."
"I asked around, a-and medical will probably clear you all within the next month." The halls at first are empty, and Barclay can see the wear and tear from seven years without proper upkeep, honestly astonished the ship had been able to remain in one piece over all that time. "How you came home, in one piece? It's astonishing, utterly astonishing."
"You and I both, it's nothing short of a miracle...or seven." He can hear a faint whisp of regret behind her words, and just offers a small smile as they head towards what he assumed was the bridge.
Instead, they emerge into the dining hall, where what had to be the entire crew was waiting for him.
"Everyone, may I introduce Lt. Barclay." The cheers that rang out nearly deafened her introduction, and crew Reginald had only seen in reports and his holograms for testing were just...there, smiling at him.
"Nice to meet someone not trying to take even more blood," Harry spoke first, shaking Barclay's outstretched hand fiercely.
"Don't hog all the attention." Paris nudged his friend's side, eyeing the container. "What's in there?"
"Uh, I-I brought gifts." Reginald smiled, and has to take a step back when everyone surged forward before Janeway and her SIC Chakotay stopped them with a sharp whistle.
"Sorry, we're just excited!" Little Naomi grinned from her perch on top of a table, her mother supporting her as she wanted to see a new person with her own eyes.
She was much more adorable in person.
The next two hours were spent with Reginald distributing things he'd been given, the crew spreading out over the floor and tables to show off their gifts and to talk about those they missed. Laughter filled the air as Barclay spoke about how he'd threatened his career for the first time they had spoken, and he was taken aback to find he'd been made an honorary crew member after the fact.
It's late when the crew, sated and overjoyed when they find out he'd be returning, finally disperse for the evening. He can still see they're all wired to be on alert, a few whispering to those who probably had been night shift for so long to go and rest with them when they turned to head to stations.
"I think you've given the crew their biggest morale boost since they arrived home, if I may say so." The Doctor hummed, holding a small retro camera that Zimmerman had sent him. "They were all excited to meet you."
"I'm nothing special." Barclay shrugged, a bit sheepish at the notion.
"He's right, the moment we all heard your voice for the first time, everyone was smiling for days." The captain smiled, remembering it was one of the happiest she'd ever seen her crew at the time. "You're brilliant, and if anyone says otherwise, tell them Captain Janeway wants to speak with them."
"Yes ma'am." Barclay gave a short salute, finally standing from the seat he'd been given what felt like ages ago. "That's it for me, I-I've got to get back before I end up a pincushion myself."
"When do you think you can visit next?" The Doctor asked, he and the captain escorting Barclay back to the shuttle bay, the crew they walk past all waving or wishing the man a goodnight.
"Hm? Well, in a day or two." Barclay hummed, mentally running through his calendar. "There are more things meant for you and the crew, but once it's all clear, they're yours!"
"That's wonderful news." Janeway pats his shoulder with a hum, and soon they're back to the pick-up zone for Barclay. "Do you want to leave the container here?"
"Might as well, I'm not sure how much I'm bringing next time." Like clockwork, the shuttle that dropped him off is soon within view, and Barclay steps into the decontamination zone with a small wave. "I-It's been nice meeting you all...well, finally, anyways."
"The same to you." The Doctor gave a short nod, and Janeway did the same.
"You're welcome back anytime Lieutenant, you're as much crew as anyways else here."
Reginald smiles, the warm feeling from the acceptance of people he'd never truly met something of a wonder for someone like him.
He already can't wait for the next visit.

by the way, i have been watching iwtv (the tv show version) and there are a lot of wild moments in there but for i think that so far the wildest one was when i realized that the show seemed to be heavily implying that irish author and playwright samuel beckett, creator of waiting for godot, was a member of the theatre des vampires
