"all the same" "it's a beauty" "swimsuit issue"
Far from limited to swimsuits, the identical swimsuit scene is but a subset for this category of "identical dress" stories -- established well enough to get a winking breaking of the fourth wall as far back as 1969. Archie Comics was seemingly apt to work backward for a story from the base line of "swimsuits", and when you are filling something out from there this was a clear plot choice. The first story is pretty amusing-- plot, twists, punchline payoff -- the second is at least coherent, and the third one is dead with no real narrative thrust (Mike Pellowski could be frustrating sometimes). And then there is this cover, which I look at a tad askance -- the expressions on Betty and Veronica's face are more in keeping with them putting on a show for all these giddy boys. But I guess we are going places since the Comics Code Authority was dead now.
