It is based off a reference that for the life of me, couldn't find it in my gallery. Did I delete it? Highly possible, and I didn't save it anywhere so I am sorry 😭 I promise that I will edit this post with the reference if I find it!

This art has Parental Roy and Parental Regien, and I only watched 5 episodes of Mob and then I kinda spoiled it and watched random clips and read few fanfics and wrote one and have 100000 pics of Parental Reigen in my gallery-

so we have all seen that post thats like "the kageyama parents literally have no idea who reigen is" post and thats good and i love that but i propose an alternative: the kageyama parents know who reigen is and they fucking LOVE that guy. whatever old people magic he works on his elderly clients works on them too and they think he is just THE most delightful young man. not even two weeks into mobs tenure at spirits & such they started sending him over with extra leftovers packed up for reigen bc they think hes just such a nice guy and he looks like he could stand to eat better. they send him new years cards every year and if they knew his birthday he would get birthday cards too. he got designated as Family Friend from the moment he was like "oh i should probably let this kids parents know where he is" and there is not a force in this world that can take that status from him now

Idk how else to explain it but Reigen Arataka from Mob Psycho 100 and MK from Lego Monkie kid exist on the opposite ends of the same spectrum

I recently re-watched some of the MP100 anime and it's really got me thinking about how horrifying it must have been for Reigen all those times where he could only sit there and wait to hear if Mob was alright. As the audience, we follow Mob around the story, so he's not often absent to the viewers like he is to those who love him.

I've been thinking about season 1—Mob not showing up to work for the first time ever, not answering his phone, and his GPS pinging at a random spot in the middle of the forest outside the city. How must that taxi ride have felt for Reigen, just staring at the red dot on his phone screen, having no idea what he'd find? Sure, he's a powerful psychic, but he's also 14. He's just a boy.

Or during Mogami arc, when Reigen had to sit there next to Mob's body, empty and cold on the tile floor and completely devoid of life or a soul, with no idea when or if he'd return. After Dimple, who knows very well how possession works, had warned him again and again that Mob was dead and never coming home. The fact that when Mob first wakes up back in his body, Reigen was already bent over him, sweating, eyes wide, telling him, “I actually thought you might’ve died.” That was around 45 minutes or an hour for Reigen.

It took 4-5 hours for Reigen, Ritsu, Teru, and Dimple to just lay eyes on Shigeo after the explosion at the end of season 2. 4-5 hours of searching through the rubble after they all watched a massive explosion consume him first-hand. He was buried completely within the broccoli and they only found him once they got a shovel and started digging. How must it have felt, searching for that long and still not knowing if they were going to find him alive? Or those few moments after finding his face buried in the ground, calling out for him again and again without any response or signs of life? Reigen played it off as a joke—“I thought you were a goner back there Mob. Pretty scary!”—but you can hear the fear in their voices when they’re calling for Mob to wake up, and it’s not really a joke.

Or even before that, when Reigen was sprinting his way up hundreds of stairs, gun heavy in his hands, after Dimple told him that Toichiro was intent on mercilessly killing Mob. Walking in and finding him crumpled and broken, held up by his hair. One very quiet, very weak “Ma…ster…” and then he’s unmoving on the ground. Desperately, “Hey…! You still alive, Mob?”

“I’m a pathetic excuse for a master.” Always left waiting until it’s too late. Until Confession Arc, when he finally runs into the fray to bring Mob home himself, just in time.

I think that since Ritsu is the 'smart one' he and mob's parents payed a lot more attention to him and his accomplishments, always praising Ritsu for his good work and ignoring things that are good for mob because his younger brother does so much better.

so, mob, for a long time, thought that his accomplishments were insignificant, especially compared to his brother or his classmates and kinda internalized the idea that the things he did weren't good enough.

that is, until he met Reigen.

mob comes into the office after school looking really upset and disappointed, Reigen instantly notices this. Mob sits down at his desk and hesitates a bit before reaching for his bag and pulling out his folder, pausing and staring at the folder laying on the table before picking it up and pulling out his homework for the day.

Reigen knows that something is up with mob, but he doesn't want to push so he waits to see if mob talks about it himself. For a while they both just sit there in silence, the faint sound of a pencil scratching at paper and a pause for a bit and then it continues. after a while mob gets up and walks over to Reigen's desk.

Mob just stands there for a moment before lightly tapping Reigen on the arm. Reigen turns to mob and mob quietly asks him to check his work. It's not an unusual thing for mob to ask but Reigen can hear in the way his voice trembles and he stutters while asking and that his whole body is slightly shakey that something is wrong.

Reigen quickly checks his work and tells him that everything is correct, and he did a great job. mob nods and smiles before taking his paper back and turning to walk away when Reigen stops him. Mob, confused, turns back around and Reigen asks him what's wrong.

Mob tries to deny anything being off about him at first but gives in shortly and admits that he got a 70 on his math test that day and he knew his parents were going to be upset. Reigen is confused as to why his parents would be upset, that's not a bad grade. Mob tells him about how Ritsu is super smart, and his parents always compare his work to Ritsu's and say that it's not very good, even when he gets higher 70's or lower 80's.

Reigen is upset that his parents would do that but doesn't let his emotions get the better of him and quickly turns to comforting mob. he tells him that his works is great, and that schoolwork is much easier when your younger and that it's not right of them to do that. Reigen tells mob that he's doing a great job and that he's so proud of him. Mob cries and hugs Reigen. they just kinda stay there for a while, warm and comforted in each other's embrace until there's a knock on the door and their next customer is here.

Reigen makes sure to praise mob extra for all the great work he does from that point on.

The thing about Age Swap AU that I really like is the fact that both Mob and Reigen are inherently so much more unstable.

On Reigen's end, most of it is from the fact that he's a kid—he doesn't have the same amount of emotional intelligence because he has less experience overall, and the fact that his relationship with his parents isn't,,,,great, even in a canon setting. A boy still mucking around in the trenches of parental abuse/neglect is always going to be more rickety emotionally and mentally than a grown man who's been given years to heal and distance himself from it.

And then there's Mob. Mob is a bit more a wild card in this area, just because without Reigen his childhood is more or less an unknown. Did Mogami find him? Would it have made him crueller if Mogami mentored him instead? What about Claw? Did they take him in? Is he still with them, did they fall, does he regret it? Is he jaded or riddled with guilt or stuffed so far back in his shell that it takes a little blond boy wielding a huge emotional and verbal hammer to start breaking through it? Either way, I definitely don't see him being as emotionally stable as canon Mob. He likely hasn't reconciled with Shigeo, he probably never truly accepted his powers, and thus has the emotional maturity of a ten year old—Reigen still beats him on this. Mob's only point of positive advice would've been Ritsu, and that's....I mean, it's Ritsu. He hasn't had any significant good influences in his life so he absolutely struggles on how to be one himself.

The potential for these two to be codependent is SO much higher and I love it. Unhealthy dynamics are my absolute JAM (one of the reasons I have this animatic rotating in my head at top speeds 24/7 365) so the inherent prickliness of whatever Wrongness™ these two have going on just. has me. Reigen clings because it's all he knows how to do—even if Mob banishes him from the office, he's a persistent kid that hasn't learned you shouldn't chase after moody grown men with emotions so repressed it manifests as a literal eldritch alter with no morals to curb its desires. And Mob has had to go even longer alone in this sort of universe than ever, and Reigen is likely the only person who's never been afraid of him; he's latching onto that kid like bear trap and never letting go. He's still tenderhearted, but it's plagued with years and years of loneliness and inner turmoil that he's had no one around to soothe; he's over a decade too late for 'healthy'. Not that Reigen minds <3

Understandable BUT a fun thing about Reigen is that he's actually really good at mundane things even with the cringefail energy

Mob and Serizawa are more anxious duo, and Serizawa specifically was isolated so he'd probably take a bit to get used to grocery runs
