The Governor and his family took a day away from the campaign trail and rented a home on Lake Panorama in a town called Panora, outside of Des Moines, IA. This was a relaxing day for the family and they are feeling re-energized to get back out there tomorrow. The Governor did make a quick comment to some locals about the lake being beautiful, but that it is hard not to be biased and prefer Minnesota lakes, when that is what his state is known for.

Tomorrow the family will be meeting up with Governor Andy Bashear and Mayor Connie Boesen.

thinking about Nandor clumsily going to Panora to find a new familiar. Thinking about him getting his clothes stuck on the entrance. Thinking about him going around like the silly man he is asking every costumer there if they would like to serve him for all theur lives in exchange of inmortality and cool powers. Thinking about everyone there getting creeped out and leaving when he approaches (everyone but a certain employee, who keeps giggling at this man's silliness). About him getting kicked out from there ( humans are so dramatic and ridiculous ugh) and sitting on the pavement deafeated. About a very nervous shy young human with the Panora employee uniform approaching him after a bit, sitting down next to him and asking if he was being serious about that whole cool powers thing and if he was a vampire and a million other things. About him being shocked at how quickly he asked too many straightforward questions and just answering a kinda confused "yes...". About him taking this young human back to his house, def having to take a step back when the guy started fangirling over getting to clean up the corpses (his previous familiars absolutly HATED that part of the job) or overstepping WAY too many boundaries by trying to look VERY closely his fangs (he didnt like people staring at them, he's insecure about them :( ).

Thinking about Guillermo just taking orders at Panora very bored, clearly excluded from the little friendgroup the rest of his coworkers formed. Thinking about him being all angsty in there, very much in his own world thinking of how lonely he was. Thinking about him noticing a costumer having A Scene at the door to enter. About him spacing back in just to see some Weird Hot Guy (that makes his heart beat faster and causes him a weird sense in his gut when he looks at him for some reason? And he kinda likes it? Certainly he isnt gay is he? what?)walk in with the most absurd clothes, embarrassing himself all over. About how this just Makes His Day. About him just enjoying the scene, laughing his ass off to this endearing weirdo but trying to hide it because his coworkers are looking at him with Disgust. About how he starts to listen to what this absurd man is saying to all this people and getting curious about whether this was the moment he had been waiting for. About him finaly building up the courage to go and ask him after he got banded from the Panora. About him getting so excited and fangirling when the man confirmed he was a vampire. About that being one of the happiest nights of his life, as he got to go to this man's (whose name is apparently Nandor) kinda mansion, meet his vampire roommates (who are more peculiar than him, somehow) and get to know his new obligations as a familiar.

I am staying in a place on the edge of Ankara, so there is lots of greenery around me (and the sound of birdsong each day), but this view looks back towards the city. The University of Iowa athletics department will repay $2 million to the state to cover the costs of a recent legal settlement over racial discrimination in the university's football program.

The $4.2 million settlement was announced Monday between 12 Black former football players and the university. As part of the agreement, the Iowa athletics department would pay $2.175 million of the costs, with the state paying the remaining $2 million.

The agreement drew immediate criticism, with State Auditor Rob Sand, a Democrat, saying he did not support using taxpayer funds for the deal unless Iowa athletics director Gary Barta was ousted.

Republican state Sen. Annette Sweeney called for holding up the Board of Regents budget until Barta resigns or is fired, and State Treasurer Roby Smith, a Republican, said he "would encourage the university to reexamine the relationship" with Barta, offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz and others named in the suit.

There is no admission of wrongdoing by university officials as part of the settlement agreement. But Damario Solomon-Simmons, a Tulsa-based civil rights attorney who represented the 12 Black ex-players who will receive payouts, said his clients have been “vindicated” by the settlement.

Iowa lawmakers introduced a bill Wednesday requiring athletics departments at the state's regents universities to repay the state for any settlement costs that had not been budgeted for by lawmakers. The bill, House Study Bill 229, would be retroactive, and would cover this week's settlement.

At a subcommittee meeting on the bill Thursday morning, a lobbyist for the Board of Regents read a statement from University of Iowa President Barbara Wilson saying the athletics department would cover the cost.

"After listening to the concerns of Iowans and in consultation with the Board of Regents leadership, I have determined the University of Iowa Department of Athletics will reimburse the state general fund for the $2 million due to the recent settlement," Wilson said in the statement. "I’m deeply committed to our students’ success and well-being on and off the field of play."

Republican lawmakers said they were appreciative of Wilson's recognition that state taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for the settlement's costs. But they said they would still move the bill forward to continue discussions.

"We are going to continue to move on with this bill for future settlements or lawsuits, continue that conversation, but again I do appreciate the university and their self-evaluation and understanding that taxpayers should not be on the hook for $2 million," said Rep. Carter Nordman, R-Panora.
