FOR CONTEXT:

israel has launched an invasion and heavy bombing of rafah(a.k.a the "safe zone" 1.7 million Palestinians were forced into) after the UN approved a ceasefire resolution for the rest of ramadan... all 2 weeks of it. results were 14 votes for YESes. 0 NOs. and 1 didn't vote(take a guess who it was) the resolution called for an unconditional release of all hostages on both sides. so yes, mr "i am totally just doing this to get my hostages back whom i totally care about and totally didn't kill" Israel is launching harder attacks even after being promised all hostages release. just in case anyone was still questioning if Israel was using hostages as just an excuse for colonialism

russia tried to turn it into a permanent ceasefire but the US vetoed it. i guess vetoing a ceasefire looks less bad when russia is the one proposing it

I was at a protest but I wasn't wearing obvious medic gear, just a hoodie because US police purposely target media and medics, I'm literally safer not labeled as a medic. But this protest didn't get out of hand, it was a small relatively peaceful protest but at one point while we were in a public area with people giving speeches, one of the homeless men who lives nearby came over, clearly very impaired and holding a 2x4, swinging it around like he was doing air karate. Not particularly aware that he was being very threatening I don't think, just behaving erratically, looked like chronic amphetamine abuse to me. I always hang near the back (dense crowds are unsafe at my size) but at this point three Iranian men came up to me and said "Hey, you should get further into the crowd." Basically saying hey tiny person, maybe don't stand near the crazy guy swinging a board. Then they went up and talked really cheerfully to the guy, explained what was happening, and convinced him to leave. A while later he came back and was very close to a bad interaction with a cop, and those same three men walked over and said something like "Hey friend, let's go over here" and redirected him away from the cop, even though he was not involved, wasn't part of our group, and was scaring protesters they still wouldn't let him get into a situation with a cop. This kind of solidarity and conflict resolution is unbelievable. It was so impressive to watch. We all have to live in this fucking dystopia we gotta take care of each other. Even if we can't relate to another person, even if we're directly in conflict, we all have to be in solidarity and resolve that conflict because we have bigger problems to deal with. Together.
