you guys, in pakistan Ramadan is like the equivalent of christmas in the US when it comes to marketing and ads. Every food brand, everything has a Ramadan sale attached to it it’s wild. Some chain stores sell a whole Ramadan package with dates, milk, flour, oil/ghee, probably dahi, frozen samosas, rooh-afza, everything we usually eat. yknow like those big christmas packages with 60 different kinds of Godiva chocolates but it’s actual food.
Ramadan is more commercialized in Pakistan than Eid, and Eid is the actual holiday. Ramadan is a religious month that we fast in, not really a celebration. Insane.
Anyway for my non-Muslim friends, make a Muslim in your community happy by taking them out to a halal restaurant for Iftar. Ask them about how they practice Ramadan. Buy them Krispy Kreme for dessert. Be like that one guy on TikTok who woke up at 4 to prepare suhoor for his roommate. Learn more about Islam. Look out for the Muslims in your community. And for Allah’s sake, don’t stop talking about Palestine.
to the Muslims, Ramadan Mubarak, may your days be filled with peace and prosperity from Allah, may He answer all your prayers for this year.
Don’t forget to check your dates so you’re not accidentally beginning or breaking your fast with Israeli-grown ones. Pray Taraweeh if you can go to the masjid. Help your parents make iftar if you live with your parents idk. Have a blessed Ramadan everyone 🫶🇵🇰📿

Why is Basmati Rice Becoming More Popular Than Other Types of Rice?
Tumblr media
Basmati rice has made waves across the global food community in recent years, drawing people in with its fragrant fragrance, delicate texture, and unique flavor. But why? In this comprehensive examination we'll uncover all of its fascinating reasons behind its meteoric rise both from culinary preferences and market perspectives.
Chapter 1: Origins and Unique Attributes of Basmati Rice Basmati, commonly referred to as the "Prince of Rice," can trace its history back centuries in India's subcontinent; specifically at the foothills of Himalayan ranges where it first started being harvested for consumption today. Over time it has gradually transformed itself into the revered grain it is today.
Basmati rice stands out from other varieties by its captivating aromatic allure. When prepared in any dish from biryanis to pilafs, its rich fragrance becomes even stronger as its cooking proceeds, making it the ideal choice.
Basmati Rice Has An Irresistible Texture Basmati is known for its distinctive long, slender grains which remain separate and fluffy when cooked, unlike many other varieties which clump together when heated up - an ideal characteristic for dishes where individual grains are desired.
Basmati rice boasts an exceptional flavor. Its subtle combination of delicate, subtle nutty and sweet notes makes it the ideal base for many culinary creations, while its mild taste works perfectly alongside various cuisines and ingredients.
Chapter 2: Basmati Rice in Culinary Delights Basmati is not simply popular for its delicious taste - its exceptional quality has made it a central component in numerous traditional and contemporary recipes around the globe.
Basmati Rice Is an Essential Part of Indian Cuisine At the core of India's cuisine lies Basmati rice - revered and beloved across its national boundaries for iconic dishes such as biryani, pulao and kedgeree. Basmati's unique ability to absorb flavorful spices while maintaining texture and aroma has earned it a prized place within Indian kitchens.
Basmati rice has made its mark beyond Indian kitchens and into home kitchens around the globe, becoming a favourite in Thai coconut rice, Middle Eastern pilafs, and Mexican risotto dishes alike.
Basmati rice has long been revered for both its flavor and texture, as well as the potential health advantages it may provide. Due to its low glycemic index index rating, high fiber content, and moderate protein levels compared to many other varieties, basmati is considered an especially healthy choice among many other options available today.
Chapter 3: The Global Reach of Basmati Rice
Basmati rice has gone global and become a beloved global staple, enjoyed across continents for its variety and flavour. Many factors contribute to its widespread acceptance around the world, including its origins.
India and Pakistan, two primary producers of Basmati rice, have experienced an explosive increase in exports due to rising demand. Their production has expanded accordingly and exports now extend across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
As global cuisine has progressed and people seek out unique dining experiences, Basmati rice has emerged as a pivotal ingredient in fusion dishes. Thanks to its ability to adapt easily to different culinary traditions, Basmati is now at the centre of modern fusion cuisine.
Food Industry Adoption
In recent years, Basmati rice has seen increased use in ready-to-eat meals, frozen foods, and restaurant menus across all food industries. Chefs and manufacturers alike have taken notice of its versatility and convenience for creating ready-to-eat dishes and frozen foods; further increasing its popularity.
Chapter 4: Basmati Rice's Sustainable Story Sustainability has become an ever-increasing priority within the food industry, and Basmati rice provides a fascinating case study in this regard.
Water-Efficient Cultivation
Basmati rice cultivation is widely recognized for requiring less water consumption compared to other varieties, making it a sustainable solution.
4.2 Biodiversity and Ecosystems
Regions where Basmati rice is typically produced can often boast rich biodiversity. Sustainable farming practices can help conserve these ecosystems and ensure biodiversity conservation.
Chapter 5: The Future of Basmati Rice
With Basmati's increasing popularity, it is crucial that we examine what challenges and opportunities await it in its near future.
Maintaining the high quality and authenticity of Basmati rice is critical to its continued success, and efforts are currently being undertaken to safeguard it as a geographical indication (GI). Consumers need to receive authentic rice products.
Innovation and Adaptation
Food industries are constantly shifting, so Basmati rice must adapt to meet evolving consumer preferences and diet trends. Innovation in packaging, processing and product development is crucial to remain competitive in today's marketplace.
As the world population increases, the role of staple foods like basmati rice becomes even more essential to global food security. We cannot underestimate its contribution.
Conclusion
Basmati rice's remarkable popularity can be attributed to its unique attributes, culinary versatility, global appeal, sustainability and future potential - all factors which play a part in its rise to fame. As more people discover its allure around the globe, Basmati's allure will continue to transcend culinary borders and cultures for many years to come - providing inspiration to chefs looking for culinary direction or customers hoping to expand their dining adventures alike. Can a pet food import ban encourage local production?
New Post has been published on https://petnews2day.com/pet-industry-news/pet-travel-news/can-a-pet-food-import-ban-encourage-local-production/
Can a pet food import ban encourage local production?
Days after a Pakistan meat processor announced that it would export $1 million worth of pet food to United States and Europe — a first for the country — the government declared that it plans to ban pet food imports along with 800 other items considered “luxury” goods.
A notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange states that The Organic Meat Company Ltd. (TOCML) is “the first company from Pakistan to successfully export pet food to Europe, and is also the pioneer to export the same to USA market earlier.”
TOCML has a meat processing plant in Karachi where it plans to develop new line of pet food products for the export market. No data was shared on how they would split the annual orders of $1 million worth of pet food between their American and European export partners.
This news capped gains that TOMCL reported in its financial statements for the period ended March 31, 2022, with 28% sales growth over the same period last year to reach Rs3,449 million.
Can a pet food import ban can encourage local production?
A possible ban on imported pet food could incentivize local manufacturers to meet demand at home, which leans towards foreign brands mainly for better quality and safety reasons. But the immediate reason for it, according to the federal cabinet, is to control the country’s rising import bill that has strained its foreign currency reserves.
Dog food and cat food are lumped together with food and non-food products that range from cars and mobile phones to cosmetics and cigarettes. Also on the list of banned imported goods are items that pet owners might need to raise dogs and cats in the house, such as kitchen and sanitary ware, fish, frozen meat and frozen fish, tissue paper, shampoos and other toiletries.
The ban will probably last for two months and if not, the Ministry of Finance is considering doubling the import duties and taxes on the said products instead. The World Trade Organization and the International Monetary Fund have opposed the import ban on luxury items.
Pakistan’s information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said at a public forum that reducing the country’s dependence on imports and focusing on exports is part of the government’s economic plan to help local industries to prosper and create more jobs. She also said importers who already booked and paid for their orders before this looming ban could proceed, but that would be the last until the ban is lifted.

It is not without reason that the famous Renaissance physician and chemist Theophrastus Paracelsus called carrot root Mandragora (genus), making people live longer without diseases. The amazing properties of carrots lie in their carrot nutrition facts, which include various trace elements and a wealth of vitamins, some of which the human body cannot form during the metabolic process. The root of the carrot concentrates substances that help treat many diseases, obtain a strong immune system and rejuvenate the entire body. Read more about the useful properties of carrots, their biochemical composition, and the influence of growing conditions on the value of the root crop in this material.
A FEW FACTS ABOUT CARROTS Cultured carrots evolved from the wild carrots that grew in abundance in Asia and Europe. This root vegetable is thought to have originated in Afghanistan. Carrots originated in Afghanistan and possibly northern Iran and Pakistan. Queen Anne's Lace is a wild carrot that readily inter-pollinates with carrots and grows in temperate areas around the world where there is adequate moisture and disturbed ecology (roadsides, open spaces, etc.).
A. History of the carrot The domestication of carrots took the following routes. 1. 900 - 1000 AD: Purple and yellow carrots spread from Afghanistan to the eastern Mediterranean. 2. The 1300s: purple and yellow carrots in Western Europe and China 3. The 1600s: Yellow carrots in Japan 4. The 1700s: In addition to purple and yellow, white carrots were reported in Europe, and orange carrots were first reported in the Netherlands and neighboring regions 5. Today: orange carrots dominate worldwide, although some white types (for livestock) still exist in Western and Eastern Europe, some red (not orange) in Japan, some yellow and purple in the Middle East, and some purple, yellow, and red from Turkey to India and China
It should be noted that under natural conditions, the content and list of beneficial properties of root carrots differs from the cultivated form, where the beneficial properties of this crop are purposefully developed.
B. External review of key facts 1. Carrot (Daucus carota) is a root vegetable of the Umbelliferae family, including celery, parsley, parsley, dill, parsley, fennel, coriander, and fennel. 2. In 2012, the United States was the third-largest carrot producer. Approximately 80-90% of U.S. carrots are produced in California. Other major producers include Michigan and Texas. 3. In the late 1980s, the introduction of fresh-cut carrots and "baby carrots" created a carrot boom. 4. 4. Carrots are rich in beta-carotene, vitamins C and K, potassium, and dietary fiber. 5. 5. Carrots are popular as a culinary vegetable, salad item, snack food, and raw vegetable. 6. 6. Like most vegetables, carrots are low in acid and therefore at high risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum toxin, the bacterium produced by Clostridium botulinum, when improperly canned. There have been several outbreaks of botulism associated with commercial and homemade carrot juice and homemade canned carrots. 7. Between 1998 and 2017, the CDC's National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS) reported at least 31 carrot-related outbreaks resulting in 756 illnesses, 17 hospitalizations, and no deaths. In outbreaks of known etiology, the most common pathogen is norovirus, but also includes Bacillus cereus, Salmonella, Salmonella, Clostridium botulinum, Shigella, and Staphylococcus aureus.
It was not until the 20th century that breeding efforts produced carrot varieties with a predominantly orange color, high sweetness, and pleasant juicy flesh. Before breeding efforts, carrots were used primarily for cooking and much less frequently for root vegetables, but then there was a real culinary boom. Cookbooks devote considerable space to describing various recipes for cooking carrots with other grain crops, and medical reference books present recipes for preparing treatments for various ailments.
EFFECT OF CULTIVATION CONDITIONS OF CARROTS ON THE QUALITY OF ROOT CROPS The value of carrots is determined by vitamins and other nutrients that accumulate in the root crop. Their quantity and quality depend on cultivation techniques. When agricultural practices are violated, changes occur not only in the exterior of carrots (small, sparse orange, cracked roots, etc.) but also in their biochemical indicators. Vitamins, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and other very important compounds are drastically reduced. Carrot is a temperate crop. It has high requirements for basic living conditions: soil and temperature regime, provision of water, and light. The quality of root crops decreases due to insufficient soil preparation (low looseness, insufficient filling with basic fertilizers), insufficient watering and feeding during vegetation, violation of the ratio of the main nutrients (more nitrogen and less potassium), and other conditions. When buying root crops in the market, be sure to ask about the growing conditions of the crop. But the best way to keep your family healthy is to grow carrots on your own plots, observing all the requirements of agricultural growing techniques. Also, only approved varieties and hybrids should be used when sowing seeds. During the winter period, list in your garden diary the early, middle, and late varieties with the highest biotechnical indicators of product quality and prepare carrot seeds of these varieties exactly.

BIOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CARROTS A. Vitamins in carrots 1. Carrots contain 22% of pro-vitamin "A" (carotene), including alpha and beta carotene, which are synthesized in the body as vitamin "A," and vitamin "A" is a guarantee of visual acuity. 2. 100 grams of carrots contain more than 0.5 grams of B vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, and B12, necessary for the synthesis of hemoglobin in the body. 3. Carrot juice contains a group of active chemicals calcitriol, representing vitamin "D," including "D2" and "D3". Vitamin "D" can be produced in the body under the influence of natural sunlight and ultraviolet light (artificial irradiation) and manifests itself in the form of tanning. Deficiency in children manifests itself in the form of rickets and in adults in the form of osteoporosis (fragility) and softening of bones (osteopenia). 4. Carrots have a high content of vitamin "K" (11%), which regulates blood clotting and prevents the formation of blood clots. 5. Vitamins "C" and "E" provide energy and normalize the function of the endocrine glands. Vitamin E also slows down the aging process of the body. It is known as the vitamin of youth. It is vital for diabetics because it helps reduce the need for insulin. 6. Vitamin "PP" (niacin), like the previous vitamins, provides energy to the body, supports heart function, blood circulation, and is involved in the metabolism of amino acids. 7. Vitamin "N," or lipoic acid, regulates the liver, thyroid, participates in the metabolism of carbohydrates, and influences the level of cholesterol in the blood. The whole vitamin complex is preserved in freshly cooked carrot juice for one hour, after thawing - 0.5 hours. The complete utilization of the body occurs in the presence of fats (butter, sour cream).
B. Micronutrients in carrots Carrots are characterized by a fairly high micronutrient content. In 100 grams of raw carrots, there is 320 mg of potassium, responsible for normalizing the heart. In Soviet times, athletes were prescribed potassium lactate. The sodium concentration was between 69-70 mg, and the sum of phosphorus and calcium exceeded 65-68 mg. Carrot root has sufficient copper, zinc, iron, magnesium, manganese, cobalt, and molybdenum. Carrots also contain selenium, a young element, and fluorine, which is responsible for the thyroid gland and helps to remove heavy metals and radionuclides from the body. Other elements are present in root crops and are compounds and combinations necessary for the normalization of water metabolism (chlorine), water-salt metabolism (sodium), and the composition of proteins (sulfur). Aluminum, boron, vanadium, nickel, chromium, lithium, and iodine complete the list of trace elements. In the context of low-calorie products, an impressive list becomes indispensable for the treatment of obesity, weight loss, and stimulation of hematopoiesis. Carrots are a part of all fitness diets. 100 grams of root crop (one small carrot) contains 35 to 40 kcal but contains more than 9.5 grams of carbohydrates and 2.8 grams of dietary fiber.
OTHER NUTRIENTS IN CARROTS Recently, there has been a general decline in immunity in children and adults and increased cold and flu attacks. The phytotoxic properties of carrots are almost comparable to garlic and onions but without an unpleasant odor. On the contrary, the essential oils add spice to the dishes prepared. In the early days of recognizing carrots as a food, as mentioned above, the seeds and green tops were used in cooking. The concentration is lower than in other vegetables, but a complete list of amino acids is present in carrots. These include tyrosine, lysine, leucine, ornithine, cysteine, asparagine, threonine, histidine, methionine, etc. Carrot has a pleasant rich color due to its anthocyanins and bioflavonoids. It contains umbelliferone, which is involved in the biosynthesis of basic compounds such as phytosterols, coumarins, quercetin, fiber, pectin, and sugar.
USEFUL PROPERTIES OF CARROTS For the treatment and prevention of diseases, carrot is available as a raw product, cooked, thawed, and frozen. In boiled form, it increases its positive impact on the body in treating nephritis, cancer, diabetes, and general flora disorders. Raw carrots prevent microbial infections of the mouth and systemic infectious colds (acute respiratory infections, influenza). Carrot is used for vitamin deficiencies, anemia, atherosclerosis. It is included in formulas for treating Alzheimer's disease, digestive tract, intestinal obstruction, cholelithiasis and urolithiasis, pyelonephritis, cystitis. Carrot juice is effective against conjunctivitis, night blindness, and other eye diseases. It is used in official and folk medicine to treat diseases of the bone and hematopoietic system. Eating 50 grams of fresh carrots per day (average daily rate) will reduce the risk of stroke by 60-70%, breast cancer by 25%, and retinal diseases with visual impairment by 40%.
CONTRAINDICATIONS TO THE USE OF CARROTS 1. Carrots are contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to this product. 2. In inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, small intestine, peptic ulcers. In these cases, the vegetable is used in the form of boiled or stewed. 3. If you have liver disease, consult a doctor before consuming carrots. 4. Yellowing of feet and skin in children and adults may occur if raw carrots and juice are consumed in excess. The daily dosage of this product should be reduced until the yellowing disappears. Finally, I would like to warn the reader. Carrots are very useful, but at all need to be measured. It is enough to eat 1-2 carrots a day, no more than 100-120 grams of carrots in any form - salads, purees, juices.

Hi, what kind of merchants are there in Tudor times? I only know of wine and clothes, and spice merchants. Are there any others? And what do they do?
If you go by the definition of merchant as someone who imports or exports goods...just about anything, really. The Tudor era tends to be considered a span of time from the late 1400s to early 1600s, which is well after the Black Death rolled through, populations have recovered, people are being paid more for their work, they're more mobile, new technologies are being developed, new trade routes are being explored...
Clothes were more something manufactured locally by craftspeople, but fabric was absolutely being traded; English wool would be sold in Flemish markets, either spun in Great Britain or spun on the Continent, and sold all over. Linen was available in most places, but certain areas would have a reputation for finer materials and craftsmanship. Silk was being imported from the far east, and cotton from the Middle East (at the time called the Near East, aka Pakistan, etc). People were engaging in trade with brocades, embroideries, laces, finespun cloths, tightly felted woolens, etc.
Obviously, spices and herbs have been a big part of international trade since, well, humans have been traveling and offering new areas new flavor sensations. Wine, too--but not just wine; other spirits were being traded, such as mead, beer, and in the later period, distilled spirits were experimented with, though transportation of beer was problematic, since the casks were heavy, difficult to transport, and the contents would not stay good for very long in the fluctuating temperatures found outdoors.
Food in general was an export/import good, though much of it had to be preserved, usually through salting, brining, pickling, fermenting, and/or drying--frozen food was only transported in winter, and usually only locally from farms to nearby villages and towns.
Metal was definitely something being traded--gold, silver, copper, tin, lead, iron, and ingots of alloys such as bronze and pewter. Gemstones were also being sourced and carried near and far for trade, though the faceted gemstone didn't come into existence until just before the tudor period, and at that point, the facets were simple in number and style; it isn't until much later that we get multi-faceted gems, and for a long period rounded cabochons or carved gemstones were still quite popular...but again, like metal, they had to go from where they were found to where they were considered valuable.
Stone was also traded, though it was massively heavy and would be expensive to transport hundreds of miles--most structures are built out of local resources, and all that--but wood was surprisingly a commodity, too. The best ship masts came from Sweden and Norway, for example, but exotically hued woods could also be shipped (literally via ship) to various port cities and incorporated into woodworking for the rich.
Furs were another widespread trade commodity. Even if most leather was sourced locally, soft and thick furs in different colors were prized for their luxurious qualities as well as for their warmth, and could be transported quite long distances.
Pottery of high craftsmanship would be a trade item, as were glass objects, though transporting these required a great deal of care in packing them to prevent breakage...and any time you have containers, you have things you can put into them.
Basically, if you have craftspeople*, they're making things to sell. If you have things to sell, you have people willing to travel to find a market where the items are relatively rare, and could be worth more than the cost of making and transporting them and coming back home again...so there's your answer, yes? Hope that helps!
(*Farmers are included in craftspeople, since it is a genuine craft that takes years to master.)
