“So, tell me again, why exactly did you take me?” Mac asked the creature in front of him.

The beast’s huge, scaled shoulders rolled as it shrugged down at him. “I was bored and you were far more appealing than any of the other options available for entertainment.”

“But aren’t dragons supposed to take princesses? You know I’m a man, right?”

The dragon snorted, plumes of smoke shooting from its nostrils. “That’s just a myth. Our tastes are as varied as we are.”

“Huh.” Mac cast his eyes around the room, looking for a new topic of conversation as he plotted an escape. “So, what do you for fun around here?”

“Sleep, raid farms, collect shiny things, you know, typical dragon stuff.” The dragon shrugged again, and Mac found himself momentarily entranced by the way the black scales shone in the shifting light of the fire. “Sometimes I disguise myself and go into town when I’m bored. That was where I saw you for the first time, riding through town with the bodyguard of yours.”

Mac blinked as the dragon grinned, teeth longer than he was tall suddenly appearing in his face. He was so distracted by the sight, he almost missed what the dragon had said.

“Wait, you go into town? How does that even work? Surely someone would notice you! You’re bigger than half the town’s houses!”

The dragon laughed, a rumbling sound which resembled the purring of a giant cat as much as it resembled the crashing of boulders. The beast moved then, pulling away from Mac as it seemed to shrink in on itself.

No, it actually was shrinking, growing smaller and smaller, skin growing paler and softer, claws and teeth growing blunter, until-

A man stood before Mac. A perfectly normal-looking man, with hair the colour of the dragon’s scales and a grin that was just a little too sharp to be typical. A perfectly normal-looking, very naked man.

“Oh,” Mac said, flushing. His body was locked in place as the beast- the man- stalked towards him.

“This is how I sneak into the village without causing chaos,” the dragon-man stated, still grinning that predatory smile, "though, I normally wear clothes when I do that."

Mac swallowed, flicking his tongue over his lips and fighting the urge to look down. “That’s, erm, clever of you.”

The man chuckled, a far more human sound this time, and distracting in entirely different ways. “Do you find this form more pleasing?”

“Yes- I, um.. what?” Mac stumbled, face hot with a blush.

The laugh which came this time was dark and self-satisfied, promising of things best left unspoken around company. Mac’s heart stuttered in response.

“They call me Murdoc,” the dragon- Murdoc- took pity on him, finally turning the conversation to other matters.

“Angus, of the MacGyver bloodline. People call me Mac.”

“Well, Angus,” Murdoc replied, purring his name out with equal parts promising flirtation and hissing threat. “I can tell we’re going to have a lot of fun together.”

Heart fluttering from the thrill and the fear, Mac couldn’t help but agree.
