So first thing, our amazing main cast (aka the troupe) are all performers, with the exceptions of Buster and Mrs. Crawly! And the only gym leader we see are Meena's Grandparents who are co-gym leaders together and villains.

None of the teens are specialists yet, but Meena's grandparents are rock type specialists and The Gang are all semi-specialists in fighting and steel types. Buster tried to be a specialist in everything... which is just a regular trainer, and Mrs. Crawly used to be a semi-specialist in fighting as a young trainer. Jimmy is an ice specialist and runs an ice type gym plus the performance showcases.
