SOUDOUGH SALUTATIONS!!!
I am the one and only Carbohydramancer on/ in the @wizard-island-trading-co! I am a Carbohydramancer, that is, a manipulator of Carbohydrates. A bread wizard, basically. My magics are based mostly on semantics. If it can technically be called bread, I can make it.
Pronouns: He/Him
CURRENT STOCK
Battery Acid Hawaiian Buns: An extremely potent electromagical power source. Boosts the power of any electromagical devices and machines hooked up to it. Requires Bottled Lightning and Lithium to bake. Handle only with insulated gloves.
Loaf of Armorsoul: Temporarily boosts defense In organic beings and repairs Automatons when consumed. Any bread baked using @odd-animated-armor's chest cavity results in this bread. This is the only way I've been able to replicate the recipe thus far.
_________________________
UPDATED: Starlight Sourdough: A mystical, mostly untested recipe. A potent, edible source of mana that is arguably more appetizing than a vial of purple goo. I used the Spores of a rare Starlight Mushroom as yeast for a Sourdough Starter, resulting in a promising way to cultivate the notoriously finicky fungus. The recipe has been stabilized, and is being used as a mana power source for @wizard-island-trading-co's Moon-Garden Dyson-Swarm.
Starlight Sourdough-Based effects (made to order):
Total Cleansing: clears all magical status effects and transformations, aside from Trans Magics.
Vitality Enhancement: Enhances your body to handle deadly poisons and fight off any disease or other foreign infection .
SPONTANEOUS MANA COMBUSTION: Causes your mana pathways to overload and have a meltdown that deals devastating damage at the cost of your ability to use magic, at least until you can be properly healed. ⚠️USE WITH EXTREME CAUTION⚠️
_________________________
Bread Bowls full of The Stew: They're bread bowls full of The Stew. Delicious. Mmmm stew. NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INJURY CAUSED BY THE STEW.
Accursed Garlic Bread of Breath Cleansing: Asexual Vampires Rejoice! Consumable for vampires and freshens the breath! All the good of garlic bread with none of the bad! Hurrah! Huzzah!
Sunlight Loaf: Imbued with Radiant Energy, this bread is a bite of sunshine on even the cloudiest of days. It perfectly replicates the nostalgia of Mom's cooking (or nostalgic equivalent) to give a bit of comfort when you need it.
Moonlight Loaf: Baked with Midnight Flour, this bread is a taste of darkness on even the sunniest of days. It perfectly replicates the traumatic experiences of your youth (or any point in your life) to add a dash of despair when you just need a good cry.
CUSTOM ORDERS!!!
Need a pita with a purpose? A magical managerie of baked goods can be at your fingertips! Just tell me the desired effects and I'll see what I can do. I don't take money for my services, however. I take exotic ingredients from which to craft new and exciting pastries.
Please place your orders through the root post or askbox, thanks :)
SOURDOUGH SAYONARA!!!
SECRET BLACK MARKET BREADS:
Biscuit of Testicular Torsion: Leave this unsuspecting biscuit in your victim's fridge. They will eat it, guaranteed. Just wait and listen for the screams. Does not work on those who lack testes.
Baked Horrors: do not. dont. Don't do it you won't like it. Neither will they. Dont.
Bread That Gives @the-gnomish-bastard a migraine every time you take a bite of it: This bread's effects are a mystery.
Not Bread: this is just some gravel I shoveled off of a riverbed.

[ 📹 Footage shows scenes of the extent of the massive destruction in Hamad Town, in the Khan Yunis governate, in the southern Gaza Strip, resulting from the bombardment and purposeful destruction of local infrastructure by the Israali occupation army.]
[ 📸 A photograph published by WAFA News showing a Palestinian family performing Iftar after managing to scrape together enough food to break their fast during Ramadan in the south of Gaza after being displaced from the Jabalia Refugee Camp.]
[ 📈 A graphic showing the current death toll of 31'645 civilians killed and 73'676 others wounded as a result of the Zionist genocide in Gaza.]
🇮🇱⚔️🇵🇸 🚀🚀🚀🏘️💥🚑 🚨
STARVATION AND DESTITUION DURING RAMADAN AS BOMBINGS CONTINUE ON DAY 163 OF ISRAEL'S ONGOING GENOCIDE IN THE GAZA STRIP
On the 163rd day of Israel's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) committed a total of 9 new massacres of Palestinian families, resulting in the deaths of 92 Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children, and wounding another 130 others over the previous 24-hours.
As the majority of the Arab world break their fasts in the evening with large, warm, family meals, many of the Palestinian families of the Gaza Strip have nothing for iftar, and are unable to break their fasts or instead rely on soups of herbs or feed their families rotting bread as a shortage in flour continues largely unabated.
The Zionist occupation army continues to prevent the entry of the vast majority of food aid being sent to Gaza via various Arab and Western countries, especially aid intended for the northern Gaza Strip as residents starve in the streets, picking through garbage and consuming rotting food and contaminated water.
Even in the southern Gazan city of Rafah, stripped of its usual Ramadan decorations, only a few food stalls remain open in the local market, selling kunafa stuffed with nuts at a sticker-shock price of 80 sheckels per kilogram, or roughly $10 per pound, well beyond the reach of starving families who've been without work for more than five months as Israel continues its bombing and shelling campaign across the Palestinian enclave, even as basic materials and fuel necessary for rebuilding the Strip are blocked from entry.
As 40yo Ahmed Al-Kayyal tells local news organization WAFA, "There is no taste to Ramadan in this dirty and bloody war, a war of extermination, with no food or drink."
Local resident, Jamal Al-Khatib, had similar sentiments, telling the Palestinian news agency, "There is no food at all, so how will we break our fast in Ramadan? How can we rejoice when there is no shelter, electricity, or water?"
According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA), one in three children in the Gaza Strip are now "acutely malnourished" as famine looms over the Palestinian population of the enclave.
"Malnutrition among children is spreading fast and reaching devastating and unprecedented levels in the Gaza Strip due to the wide-reaching impacts of the war and ongoing restrictions on aid delivery," UNRWA shared in a post on the social media platform X.
"An immediate humanitarian ceasefire continues to provide the only chance to save children’s lives and end their suffering," the aid organization added.
Meanwhile, the bombing and shelling of civilian homes by the IOF continued relentlessly overnight, with a concentration of firepower on the central Gaza Strip.
In one example from last night's carnage, Zionist air forces bombed a civilian home belonging to the Thabet family in the Beshara neighborhood of Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 11 civilians, with the majority of victims being women and children. An update on the massacre said the death toll in the bombing has since risen to 12, with a large number of wounded victims reported in the atrocity as well.
An additional Israeli airstrike targeting a civilian vehicle in the city of Al-Zahra, in the central Gaza Strip, resulted in the killing of two Palestinians and wounded another.
Similarly, an Israeli bombing of a residential home in the New Camp area of Al-Nuseirat, also in central Gaza, killed another six Palestinians and wounded at least 10 others.
Occupation warplanes also concentrated their firepower on various neighborhoods of Gaza City, ensuring the complete and utter destruction of the local infrastructure of the most developed city in the Gaza Strip, making the future of the city uncertain as the landscape becomes more and more uninhabitable.
In one example, Zionist fighter jets bombarded the Al-Manara building in the vicinity of the Ashlelon Mosque in the Al-Shati Refugee Camp, west of Gaza City, while occupation aircraft also bombed the Nabil building on Al-Jalaa Street.
Occupation warplanes also bombed a group of Palestinian civilians picking hibiscus plants in the east of Gaza, with Al-Shifa Medical Complex reporting the death of one of the victims and the wounding of five others as a result.
In the southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli occupation army launched a firebelt targeting a residential square in Al-Qarara, east of Khan Yunis, while occupation air forces bombarded a tract of agricultural land near the border with Egypt, which, although no casualties were reported in the bombing, the systematic destruction of agricultural lands in the Gaza Strip is helping to contribute to the enforced famine and starvation of the Palestinian population.
In another sickening atrocity, Zionist occupation forces in gunboats opened fire on the tents of displaced Palestinian families on the coast, west of Rafah, in the south of Gaza, killing a 19yo woman when two of the Zionist soldiers' live bullets entered her skull.
As a result of Israel's ongoing war of genocide in the Gaza Strip, the endlessly rising death toll has now exceeded 31'645 Palestinians killed, more than 25'000 of which being women and children according to the United States Pentagon, with another 73'676 civilians wounded since the beginning of the current round of Israeli aggression beginning on October 7th, 2023.

Athena Dekarios née Asteriadis
High Half-Elf • Paladin-Cleric• Acolyte of Lathander • Neutral Good
Parents
Father: Amicus Asteriadis
Human artist and craftsman who was unpredictable in his violent tendencies and preference for sticking to himself. He moved to Baldur´s Gate as a young man once he found out his love - Athena´s mother - was planning on running away to the city.
Mother: Keylana Alastrarra
High-born Elf from the noble house of Alastrarra in Cormanthyr. She fell in love with Amicus, while he was performing in the city. Her parents disapproved, so she ran away to Baldur´s Gate in the hopes of a future with him. She became a merchant, but quickly let herself become corrupted. Knowing no responsibility, erratic behavior grew and she ended up taking lovers. Having grown up with money - which she no longer had - she was in the habit of spending too much; leading to terrible conflicts with her husband. (Who was a mere craftsman and very thrifty.)
Birth
Athena was the firstborn and came 8 years before her brother. Her birth was easy, unlike the pregnancy which had been heavy with nausea. She knew her mother had sung to her as a baby and toddler, even having gone so far as to invent her own lullaby for her, but later on their bond became severed and Athena was incapable of forming a bond with her mother. Her father was the one always there for her, despite his violent behavior and emotional abuse towards her. The abuse she had to suffer built the foundation for her strong personality later on, making it difficult for her to trust others.
First word
Plain old "Dada" followed by "bread".
When they first walked
Once Athena started walking at the age of 11 months, nothing was safe. She was particularly interested in books - but not necessarily in looking at them, but rather to use them as countertop for her baking experiments. She was scolded more than once for playing with flour on a green covered book, which she later found out was a book about plants and their different uses.
Tantrum
Athena would never forget that one tantrum she threw as a toddler, where she was on a flea market and saw a mountain lion plush toy. She wanted it so badly that she cried bitter tears, begged and threw herself to the ground. It was the same day she had been too trusting when faced with a big dog, who nearly bit her hand off. To her astonishment, she got the Mountain Lion plush toy. (And still feels bad for having acted out as a toddler.)
First sickness
Measles
Friends
Never really had friends, due to her mistrustful nature and difficulty in forming bonds. She was the awkward know-it-all who did her own thing. Later on Jaheira becomes her best friend.
Siblings
Has a younger brother - Evan - which she basically raised due to neglectful parents. They both know they are there for each other when necessary, but barely maintain contact. He owns a tavern in Waterdeep.
Getting into trouble
Despite her parents´ boasting about her to outsiders, she remains the black sheep of the family due to her reluctance in complying with her father´s demands and open hostility towards her mother´s behavior. She ran away often as a teen, once her parents had separated shortly after her brother´s birth.
Birthday Eleasis 13th
Learning something new
As a Priestess of Lathander she is on a constant journey of self-improvement, which includes learning. May it be combat, medicine or a new spell - she is always gaining new knowledge.
Trauma
One of her mother´s lovers sexually harassed her,
and a boy from the neighborhood tried to assault her. (It didn´t end well for him, but it made her even more cautious.)
First love
She fell in love with Jidam - a classmate who had longer brown hair and striking blue eyes - when she was thirteen years old. He mistreated her and made her the laughingstock of their year, but her devotion never faltered. A girl she thought her friend ended up getting involved with him.
Rebellion
Moved out as a teen and sought refuge in Lathander´s Temple in Waterdeep where she became an Acolyte.
Reckless behavior
Athena never was one for recklessness. Her difficult childhood and devotion to Lathander gifted her with wisdom beyond her years.
Peer pressure
Athena was known for her defiance of the masses and did not cave to peer pressure. The only time she fell for peer pressure she ended up stealing something from a big shop around the corner. Feeling bad afterwards, she donated everything stolen; keeping only four books which made her difficult younger years bearable.
Growing pains
Growing pains plagued her during her teens - usually at night. She could feel it in her bones but never complained.
Taking responsibility
All the responsibility seemed to be on her shoulders from an early age on. First the mediator between parents, then the bodyguard of her mother when lovers turned too unpleasant, afterwards a mother to her brother.
Serious relationships
She only had one partner before Gale and was engaged to him.
Stephanus was a very analytical and stoic man, who had difficulties showing affection, lusted after other women and was an egoistical lover. He was averse to building a family, and Lathander was not pleased to see his Chosen in a union with such a man, leading to a conversation between the god and Athena. She eventually broke up.
Work
She used to serve Lathander in the Spires of the Morning. Later on she became a Paladin of Lathander, serving as a member of the Order of Aster.
Once she returns to Waterdeep with Gale, she becomes a Priestess of Lathander - she also teaches and practices midwifery in that function.
Aging
Due to her nature as a half-elf and being blessed by Lathander, as well as married to the Chosen of Mystra, who could prolong life, she could technically live forever.
Starting a family
Athena and Gale end up being the parents of three children - two boys and a girl.

"The best revenge..."
...is living and eating WELL while (and in spite of) living in poverty.
I actually had the gumption to try and have a cafe 30 or so years ago, and I live with a guy who had his own bakery: a Danish-trained Chef currently working as a Sous Chef at a big hotel in The City, and his 21 yr old son (who has literally been an assistant sous chef to his dad his whole life).
We're all barely afloat, his son is looking for his first real job-job "out there", and getting discouraged. Y'all hear regularly about my poverty status, and my roomie chef is doin' as much as he can, and we're all three freakin' broke.
Fuck it. We may be broke, but we are are gonna Eat as best we can with what we got. So to the current example.
Yes, I know how to cook Mexican Food like any native ex-south-texan worth his salt and lime. Yes I learned how mama/grandma did it, either mine or someone else's.
Roomie and I are carnivores, son is veg. We all agree that Mexican Food is good, so I'm always looking for how to spend my "old-fuck-on-food-stamps EBT the best way.
Behold, Example 1: 20 lb. bag of dried pinto beans.
Tumblr media
20 lbs for $17. And lookee there: it's Fiesta, no stranger to this former Austinite. And anyone who knows knows that this boy knows how to make a pot o'pintos, with/without carnivorousness. Keep 'em on the stove long enough you got Refrieds.
Somebody at Groce-Out is from Texas, gotta be: They have Velveeta and Rotel (for QUESO!) at near-normal prices! I laughed today. Velveeta was 6.99 at Groce-Out, and I shit you not, $14.95 at Lucky.
Got that along with a couple 2-lb bags of their "Hollis Street" whole bean French Roast (Dark) for $11.95 ea. This is surprisingly good coffee beanage, freshly roasted right up the road in Emeryville, evidently. So good coffee for cheap. A similar brand at the 'non discount' grocery store I go to is $21 for a 2lb bag.
While they aren't the winner in the coffee bean competition, Lucky (the non-discount store) is great for meat, especially mid-week, when they have lots of specials. Their "megapaks" of chicken thighs (10/pkg) were buy one get one free. So for ten bucks, I got 20 thighs (over 7lbs), which, when roasted with lots of salt and pepper, and cooled and shredded and deboned become something like 4 pounds of Chicken Enchilada Meat. For ten bucks.
Tomorrow I go to another discount store closeby roomie told me about that has the best commercial Hatch Chile in a jar I have ever found. Tastes like mine, when we would get a case at a time at Central Market, get 'em roasted in the parking lot, and take 'em home and shuck most of the the skins/seeds, and saute onion and garlic and add. In. A. Fucking. Jar.
So you see where this is heading.
We will be having a TexMex Enchilada/taco Feast that can be repeated at will until we've eaten/given enough away. Freezer. Vacuum sealer. Oooooooom.
And yeah, we got the dessert thing covered. I buy flour, the three sugars, butter, real cream, good organic milk, good brown eggs. I bake everything from fucking scratch. I buy berries and grapes as my main fruit. I don't buy a lot of processed ANYTHING. I buy ingredients. And bread/tortillas, obvs. And I'm happy I have the "card" that gives me my eeked-out apportionment of "food funds".
So that old adage of "The Best Revenge" being "living well" means we may be fucking poor, but goddammit, we are gonna Eat, with a capital E if I have anything to say about it.
All three of us are pretty much clinging to the same leaky life-raft, this accursed but oh-so-necessary apartment, not much overlap in our lives/diets/schedules, but every once in awhile I get to go back into "restaurant mode" and do up a Massive Feed. Share with the neighbors and stock the freezer.
And a pot of beans on the stove in perpetuity.

Labor shortage leads to empty shelves at some retail stores in Russia
X5-group-owned grocery stores in Yaroslavl, Rybinsk, Kovrov, and the Kostroma and Ivanovo regions have started suffering from shortages of water, bread, cereals, flour, and spices. The news outlets Mash and Kommersant report that the empty shelves are due partly to labor shortages caused by a recent spike in the persecution and deportation of Central Asian migrant workers. A source in Yaroslavl’s Agriculture and Consumer Market Ministry told Kommersant newspaper that the “staffing problem” has been solved already, but the stores’ supply chain won’t return to normal for another three weeks.
In April 2024, a Moscow arbitration court suspended X5's shareholder rights in its Russian subsidiary after the latter was designated as a protected “economically significant organization.” The court transferred X5’s shares in its subsidiary to the subsidiary itself in a redomiciliation designed to force the owners of Russia’s biggest retailer into Russia’s own legal jurisdiction.
