There are call-outs to a lot of 'kid-mystery solvers' throughout the book.

But putting aside the homages and winks to the reader it is a good story I recommend on it's own merits.

how would you hide me from the government

there are two ways to go about this

1) hide the sev - i’ll assume i’m hiding this specific sev, not hiding the existence of all sevs. i could either lead it deep into the rainforests of oregon and let it become an urban legend, bring it to the zoo under an assumed name, or get my neighbors in on it (i could probably convince at least half of them to go along with me) and insist that i have no sev in my back yard. its clearly just a dog. one of those weird breeds nobody knows much about. a weimaraner probably.

2) destroy the government - simplest but not easiest! might involve convincing ALL of my neighbors, rather than just half. oregon is like three steps from secession at any given time so i could at least keep the government distracted long enough for the sev to change her identity and move to brazil.

William Wegman was born on December 2, 1943 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He is best known for his photographs of dogs, primarily his own Weimaraners, in various poses and costumes. His photographs are a combination of pet photography and fashion photography.  Wegman recieved his education at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Not only has he photographed, he also created a sculpture in 2002 named “Dog Bowl” located in Portland, Oregon.
