me writing a oneshot of flatwell when the fires happened... the horrors of survival guilt and witnessing a literal apocalypse, yet he still ended up reasonably well adjusted. ah flatwell...

It began with a rumble of thunder. 

Distant, yet deep enough that Flatwell felt like it was vibrating in his very bone marrow, a sensation notable enough that he paused his inspection of the Coral piping to direct his AC’s ocular feeds towards the western horizon. 

The darkness of night was giving way to the crimson flush of dawn - or so Flatwell had presumed for a handful of seconds, before he realised that the sun didn’t rise in the East on Rubicon-3’s northern hemisphere, and that sunrise wasn’t for another four hours. Yet the red glow on the horizon grew brighter and brighter, as brilliant as the sun itself, so mesmerising that Flatwell sat in his cockpit and stared in curious confusion, wondering what it could possibly be. 

Then the shock wave hit him.

Flatwell was nineteen years old when the Fires razed Rubicon. He’d been a new recruit to Enlil’s AC-squad, a group subordinate to the Rubiconian militia whose purpose was to defend “Rubiconian property and interests from interlopers”, of which there were many (mostly of the corporate kind), and as a young, fresh-faced pilot situated at the very bottom rung of the hierarchy, Flatwell was given the less glamorous and more tedious jobs. 

It was this bit of friendly ‘hazing’ that had ended up saving his life.

Being highly intelligent but feeling like the most stupid person in every room you enter is such a funny feeling. Like yes, many people feel stupid when I open my mouth and talk, but what if I am just acting like a smart person and not actually smart? What if I am actually extremely stupid and just don't realise it? What if they are just being nice or make fun of my stupidity when they tell me that I am smart?

the sameer project - running various initiatives providing tents, medical care, and necessities. they have their own encampment project focused on sheltering families with children, sick and disabled members, or members in need of perinatal care

islamic relief worldwide's gaza emergency appeal - provides food, water, hygiene kits, medical supplies, and psychological support

baitulmaal - provides a variety of necessities, including food, water, shelter, and medical supplies

gaza mutual aid fund - distributes food, hygiene products, water, and other essential supplies, including financial support. run by @/el-shab-hussein's amazing friend Mona. updates can be found on her instagram.

hygiene kits for gaza - provides hygiene supplies including menstrual products, wipes, and toothbrushes/toothpaste

anera - provides a variety of necessities, including food, water, hygiene supplies, medicine, blankets and mattresses, and psychological care

palestine children's relief fund - provides supplies and support with a focus on children. also has an initiative for lebanon

dahnoun mutual aid - provides water, food, tents, baby supplies, financial support, and other necessities. updates can be found through their instagram
