Four Noc eggs from my last 30 chests sets me at 54 (with a chest or two in the cauldron)

I am not an early riser, so that's probably the final number, but it's a respectable amount, even though I didn't quite make it to my estimate of 60.

Eh, I'll set an alarm for 5 FR time and see if my gathering turns turn up anything. Worst case scenario it gets me a little more trade materials for chests for next year, and then I can roll over and go back to sleep before ttrpg time.

i know this has been talked about before but I CANNOT stop thinking about solas saying "please, rook, I do not wish to fight you"

like???

this is a man who has constantly betrayed, injured, and even killed his closest friends and confidants over and over and over again for thousands of years. he killed (or tranquilized) his oldest friend and former general just because he said "hey maybe people deserve rights" and he practically killed one of the last remaining embers of the woman he used to love. the woman he used to be conpletely beholden to. the woman he literally BURNED OFF OF HIS FACE so he could have enough power to tear down the veil.

and yet

he still refuses to hurt rook, and only lays a hand on them out of pure desperation during the sacrifice/worst ending when he literally has no other choice.

AND EVEN IN THAT ENDING he could have just turned them to stone and plucked the dagger out of their hand like he did to their companions but he DIDNT

he wanted to see the old world restored with them. if rook wasn't there to see it too, then what was the point?

even if your rook has a primarily negative/hostile relationship with him HE STILL DOESN'T KILL THEM!! HE STILL WANTS THEM TO LIVE!!!

if it really came down to it, though, solas probably would have killed them in order to tear down the veil and "fix" his mistake, but i KNOW that rook's death would have been one of, if not his biggest regret.

idk... i just think it's really interesting how solas becomes so obsessed with rook in his own way, more than almost anyone else we've seen him interact with. he could have killed them at any time, turned them to stone as soon as elgar'nan was defeated, but he didn't. he wanted them to see the old world restored with him so badly that it inevitably lead to his downfall.

God the lore around humans is fucking me up. Everything up until Veilguard suggests that humans did not exist in Thedas until around the time the Veil was created:

The elven calendar records the arrival of humans as taking place 4500 years after the founding of Arlathan (250 years before the creation of the Veil).

There is no direct mention of a world pre-Veil in human history. The chant does however claim that the Maker created "opposition in all things" before creating humanity, but again - the humans only came after.

The ONLY thing, as far as i know, that disproves all that is Solas telling Mythal he has "no desire to live as humans". Which means:

Elves and spirits were familiar with humans as far back as during their war with the Titans.

Spirits like Solas associated the act of existing physically with humans - not dwarves.

The only thing I can come up with to reconcile these pieces of information is that humans existed naturally in Thedas, were driven north due to the Elf-Titan war, and then later being able to return when Elvhenan fell. The displacement of the humans wasn't significant enough to be remembered by the elves or the dwarves (there was a fucking war going on).

It could also just be Veilguard being silly. But it does make sense that humans would flee from a continent with constant earthquakes and increasingly powerful spirits. Still odd that none of this survives in oral history.

In all seriousness, though, I think the both of them didn't know each other until they met; and when they locked eyes, they learned everything about each other. To make sure they both keep quiet about their secret, they've become pals over the years, me thinks; but they only talk or do anything together in private. They've found it to be kinda fun using their eldrich abilities to do things in secret.
