When it comes to historical research, do you research for things that DON'T exist? For example, foods that are common now but didn't exist in the average American restaurant or grocery in the '80s or '90's? Words, phrases, and entire concepts that are commonly accepted today but unheard of to the average American when Mav and Ice were at Top Gun?
Your writing is so unbelievably good.
not really because I don't care about food, I care about the literary device that is "taking communion." i.e. it doesn't matter what they eat, it only matters that they're eating together, for the plot.
And, okay, showing my little-kid bias, but was there actually stuff in grocery stores in the 80s/90s that wouldn't be there today/vice versa? brands might change, like okay Pringles might not exist but you still have potato chips; and obviously specialty stuff like what you find in your average Asian market might not be commonplace, but, like, were the 90s all that different from today, American-food-wise? its my assumption that they weren't, but I also wasn't alive in the 90s, so. Um, ectocooler Hi-C, maybe? that's the one 90s food I know.
attitudes of course are what change. today's concept of being so QUICK to publicly label sexual identities would be extremely foreign, for instance. obviously people did label their sexualities in the 80s & 90s, people were definitely calling themselves bisexual and such, but probably not the people ice & mav would be hanging out with, in the Reagan-era navy. which is what my fics are about. that's the whole point.
and, also, COMMUNICATION changes. I have never used a payphone in my whole life so I actually have no idea how they work. but they were ubiquitous "back then," and lend themselves to amazingly interesting conflict (omg I don't have enough change to call my boyfriend maverick who's mad at me!!!) which is why I lean on payphones so much in my writing. honestly, im gonna be real, the invention of the cell phone makes telling stories about miscommunication so much harder. instant-speed communication would make certain stories less interesting, which is why a lot of horror movies default to the "no cell service" trope to isolate their characters, or why some teen dramas have the characters reject cell phones on principle (Alyssa or James having a phone in 2017's "The End of the F***ing World" would solve most of their problems, which is why Alyssa smashes hers in the first five minutes and James basically says he views them as a cancer to society--if they had phones the story would be boring, so the writers took away their phones).
I also feel like people used to treat society differently "back then," i.e. Going Out was much more of a thing when there were 10 channels on TV and no one had cell phones, so you Went Out and had drinks & met strangers & interacted with general society to an extent im not sure we do anymore. So that experience is way more fun to write about in the 80s than today. (u can't see me but im seething with jealousy over ppl who were born in ~1965)
idk. im not sure I did a great job reproducing the zeitgeist of the 80s/90s in my fics, bc I wasn't there to have knowledge of what they were like. I got most of my presupposed knowledge about that time period from reading Calvin & Hobbes anthologies as a kid. oh well.
#I actively avoid talking about the aids crisis as much as I can for instance#that is certainly A Can of Worms.#a massive omission in my fics to be sure. but... not one I want to touch.#these characters would be judgmental and homophobic about it I fear.#btw I stole a bunch of stuff from teotfw for my fics#Carole asking ice if he actually wants maverick or if he just goes along with things is directly ripped from s1e02#favorite tv show of all time#top gun#edts notes#from Calvin and Hobbes I gather most people in the 80s were obsessed with hostess snacks like Twinkies etc.#and dieting consisted of chainsmoking cigs on the front porch#bloom county was also a truly informative comic strip re: my 1980s cultural education#just the way characters like opus/Steve/binkley talk for instance#people in the 80s just talk different from the way they do now#fun to try and replicate even if I can't put it into words#my god I love bloom county#my birthday is tmr I will finally be old enough to legally drink in the US 😋#thank u for the ask 🥺

Addiction is weirdly cathartic to write because I rarely ever look so forward to ripping someone to shreds using their heart to farm the pain. Gyokko has irked me in ways nobody can really do. I like the idea of taking him down a few notches.
#glitchrambles.txt#evil scheming#lots of evil plans for him#As the writer I am legally obligated to make people cry#Because I like feeling the ache in my heart for one sided pining and tears of those wanting to be loved#Plus writing something so interesting is nice#I look forward to describing the reader's true magnum opus#it shall be an agony like none I've ever written before#But it's needed for more than just Douma#I see the one sided love thing in so many other fics#When Gyokko is also so perfect for the fit of it because of his prideful nature and inability to comprehend others#Where Douma straight up can't understand the feelings#Gyokko knows. He knows and feels too#He feels the aching in his chest and he knows what he's got#He just hates the realization and admittance required with the feelings#He's prideful#Loving a human is pathetic and frowned on#Yet just like Gyutaro he can't help it. You'll be prying anything like a confession from him from his mouths with a crowbar#to be fair Gyu's the same way but Gyutaro's more scared and less bitter over his broken pride. At least Gyu'd show you through actions#Gyokko's more likely to do stuff and deny ever doing it for you#That's crazy talk!#I mumble to myself more than Midoriya in these tags istg....

"The Gemara suggests: Resolve Rava’s dilemma from the statement of Rabba, as Rabba says: If one threw a vessel from a roof and another came and broke it with a stick as it was falling, the one who hit it with the stick is exempt from all liability as we say to him that he broke a broken vessel. From the moment the vessel was tossed from the roof it was inevitable that it would break. Consequently, breaking it with a stick as it was falling had no real effect. Apparently, the initial action is the decisive factor in determining liability for damages." (Bava Kamma 17b:19)
Did anyone else read this and immediately think of the Ronald Opus thought experiment, or is that just me? (If a man jumps off the Empire State Building but is shot on the way down...)

Hey quick question.
How do you know if you should make a webcomic? I have this story idea that’s been floating around in the back of my head that I think could work well for a comic series. But the problem is I’m mainly used to writing screenplays and more traditional writing.
What I’m saying is, how can I tell if making a webcomic is worth it or if I should stick in my comfort zone?
I mean, there's no definitive right answer when it comes to "knowing" if you should make a webcomic. It really just comes down to you. Do you really like the medium? Do you feel your story has to be told within that medium to achieve its goals?
Same thing goes for whether or not it's "worth it", it really comes down to how you define that. For some people, simply posting their comics online to a few readers each week is worth it. For others, if it doesn't get into print or publishing or whatever have you, it might not be quite so justifiable to keep up with. Neither is better or worse than the other, both reasons are valid because it ultimately comes down to what we as individuals are trying to accomplish and what we define as "worth it" on a personal level.
I actually live on both sides of the spectrum right now because with Rekindled, posting it on Tumblr and getting all the great feedback and company through the audience it's gained makes it worth it. But that worth was defined by my expectations going in - I wasn't making Rekindled for money (legally I can't), I wasn't making it to get an Originals deal or anything of the sort, I was just making it because I found myself deadset on going through with it after months of it living in my head rent free, and so what I've gotten out of it as a result is very much worth it, all I was really looking for was maybe some other readers who would enjoy reading a transformative 'foe fiction' from a former LO fan and I've found those readers in spades simply due to the demand.
Time Gate, on the other hand, was something that I wanted for years to be a 'successful' project, defined more by actual tangible growth and gain. Because I came up with it as a kid, for a long time it was my "magnum opus" project, the thing that I wanted to see get turned into books and an anime and a video game and all those sorts of things as 'proof' of how good it was. Of course, I know now years later that those expectations were WAY too high and it resulted in me feeling incredibly depressed over it for ages. It made it hard to work on and even though I did have some readers, I didn't see it as "worth it" because my expectations were a lot higher than that of Rekindled's going in. But that was simply a matter of experience at that point, because I had been making original comics for so long, when I went into Rekindled I knew a lot more what I was capable of, what I wasn't capable of, and what boundaries I was willing to put down for myself. Even still, I do still want to return to Time Gate some day and when I do, I want to still treat it like a series I want to get off the ground as an actual published piece of work - it's just that this time around, I actually know how to make those steps and be proactive in my approach (and I know where to keep my expectations) which is certainly a perspective and skillset I didn't have when I was 15 LMAO
I will say, realistically speaking, it is a lot harder to pursue webcomics as a writer, because the reality of this medium is that most people who go into it are artists who learn how to write to make a webcomic, not the other way around. Unless you're willing to learn how to draw - which is a whole other skillset that requires years of work and patience - you're likely going to have to seek someone to collaborate with and - I cannot stress this enough - it's not going to be someone you simply find on reddit who's willing to work for free. Again, many of us as artists went into webcomics with a project already in mind, so most artists are already working on their own passion projects, trying to convince someone else to work on yours is just not realistic or fair. I'm fortunate enough to have @banshriek along for the production of Rekindled and even then I still pay for their contributions out of pocket, they're as invested in an LO rewrite project as I am (and thus they're given a lot of room to make suggestions in both the set designs and the writing), and I still had to carry the first 20ish episodes on my own before they joined along, i.e. I would still be making Rekindled if they weren't onboard, but having them is a massive help that's taken the comic to a whole other level in its artistic production.
But that doesn't mean it's hopeless! There's a lot of interest right now in webnovels and writing comic scripts is still a completely viable way to get into the comics industry if you're really interested in doing so (fun fact: before I was making comics, I wrote fanfiction! This is probably not shocking to hear all things considered LMAO) There's a reason Webtoons owns Wattpad now, webnovels are a no-brainer when it comes to adaptations to visual mediums, and webcomics have become part of that environment by extension. So at the very least, if you want to get your story out there, there are loads of ways to do it that don't require you to make a comic - but if you really want to make one, there are ways to get into that industry through writing in other ways such as pitching scripts to comic publishers and/or going indie with webnovels. Ultimately, if many of us webcomic creators stopped drawing our works, we'd still be coming up with stories to write, because that's what's really at the heart of these sorts of projects. So even if you can't get into comics right away due to lack of visual artistry, that doesn't mean it's off the table forever ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡
Sorry, that was a lot of rambling but I hope it helps ! Remember to keep your goals and expectations manageable, and most of all, write lots! You'll be doing it anyways regardless of whether or not you get into comics, so whatever value you see in getting into comics is up to you to determine! You don't have to know right away, it might be something you'll find along the way or have to adjust as you get more experience, but don't stop yourself from getting creative and messing around until you find out what works! You won't know if it was worth leaving your comfort zone until you try it <3
Good luck! (•̀ᴗ•́)و
#wattpad isn't the only option for webnovels btw#there's also royal road which i've heard is pretty good#you can also just go with the ole' classic tumblr blog#also look into scrivener for writing software#it comes with some great comic script templates#but you can also find script templates online that you can use in software like LibreOffice !#comic advice#webcomic advice#writing advice#ama#ask me anything#anon ama#anon ask me anything

Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts, often described as the architect of Project 2025, has ties to the far-right and secretive Roman Catholic group Opus Dei. “Roberts acknowledged in a speech last September that — for years — he has visited the Catholic Information Center, a K Street institution headed by an Opus Dei priest and incorporated by the archdiocese of Washington, on a weekly basis for mass and ‘formation,’ or religious guidance,” The Guardian reports. “Opus Dei also organizes monthly retreats at the CIC.” In his speech, which can be viewed online, Roberts talked about banning contraception, which he said will be the most difficult goal for him and his allies to achieve. But they can win this and other fights with a strategy of “radical incrementalism,” passing legislation that gives them some of what they want and can be built upon, he said. The same approach can be used for abortion rights and LGBTQ+ rights, including marriage equality, Roberts said.
[...] “Like Project 2025, Opus Dei at its core is a reactionary stand against the progressive drift of society,” he said. “For decades now, the organization has thrown its resources at penetrating Washington’s political and legal elite — and finally seems to have succeeded through its close association with men like Kevin Roberts and Leonard Leo.” Gore further called Opus Dei “a political project shrouded in a veil of spirituality.” Leo is the former executive vice president of the Federalist Society, a right-wing group that influenced Donald Trump’s judicial choices, and is now cochair of its board. He is a funder of many conservative causes, including the campaign against Bud Light for its marketing partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The Heritage Foundation head Kevin Roberts has associations with far-right secretive Catholic group Opus Dei. Heritage is responsible for Project 2025, in association with more than 100 right-wing groups.

writeblr re-introduction | catchingbigfish
hi! call me elle (they/she). i'm in my 30s, work adjacent to the legal field in my day job, and i'm studying for my MA in english! i post more about my life over at my main, @prettytothink-so, which is also the account i follow from!
i'm a david lynch obsessive, hence the url/pfp, but i love death bed: the bed that eats as much as i do blue velvet. my primary literary influences are shirley jackson, carmen maria machado, janet fitch, confessional poets, and more recently, a healthy dose of knausgaard.
i write prose & poetry with a heavy emphasis on the body, the darker sides of life, and relationships. my fiction is character-centric, driven by ensemble casts of weird and fucked up people, and characters tend to go through exquisite and grotesque things like body horror, warped and broken time, hauntings, posessions, and sex. my work is definitely 18+ and i try not to engage with minors.
i'd love to get to know other writers, esp if you write/read any of the following:
dysfunctional relationships (particularly with ensemble casts and found or of-origin families)
horror and gothic literature
body horror, nightmares, and dream logic
romance, including sex, and relationships, esp. in horror themes
i like to say i'm always open to ask + tag games, but i'm most likely to respond to an ask game than a tag! if you wanna know more about my wips, see below the cut:
click the titles for the wip intros!
conversion
status: w/ beta readers short synopsis: Rosalyn arrives to the U for her MFA in fashion-making and falls into a group of sick women artists bonded by a disputed diagnosis. She starts faking it to fit in, finds the friendships she'd always wanted, and ends up with a choice between the unthinkable and her new ride-or-die crew.
dark academia/litfic/cult novel. this project has had me in a chokehold for 18+ months and it's the most fun i've ever had writing something. stay tuned for my query journey, coming to you probably near the end of this year!
might've been, never was
status: drafting (~10%) short synopsis: Lily and her friends thought their thirties would be different. They find a way to adopt new bodies, but one of them takes it too far, and the rest have to decide whether to stop her or join in.
a satire in the same vein as conversion. currently vying with the next two WIPs for main focus while betas work through conversion. project playlist is 2 songs: teen idle and celebrity skin. the closest i'll ever come to autofiction because the idea to write "a love letter to being mentally ill in your 30s" came up when i was a teensy bit manic.
seed of the woman
status: drafting (~33%) short synopsis: A woman goes on a Christian yoga retreat hoping to return to some sense of her self. Instead, she's bitten by a snake and goes on a tour through the choices that led her here.
body horror/religious horror novella. probably actually my primary focus. nightmare/dream-logic story that's my latest attempt to write something explaining how rational and reasonable a choice it would be for a woman to choose satan over god.
the awakening re-telling
status: drafting short synopsis: The Awakening by Kate Chopin, but set it in the modern Quiverfull movement/fundamentalist Christianity circles.
i've called this the awakening x duggars but it's not really about them; i'm just obsessed with the religious theme lately
so it goes
status: hiatus, midway through second draft short synopsis: A multigenerational saga about women who see Death.
my trunk novel/magnum opus. will probably never finish. about sex, death, what we fill the void with when we let go of religion, the violence of inherited trauma, and the bridge between two states of being

Land of Women - Episode 3
So episode 3 and we're still on the "Amat and Gala have chemistry even though she's annoying as fuck" train.
We get a nice little flashback that outlines Amat's arrival in La Muga and how he came to be involved with the house and the co-operative and Golfo and Montse. The women are great, doting on him. It does give us a couple of Amat mysteries - the child in the photo and the fact that he bought the house with several large bundles of €50 notes - which suggests that he knows that Gala can't really complain to the authorities about him appropriating her cash - because there would be too many questions. This scene also reminds us that you can't convincingly dye a beard. It just looks too uniform, no beard is a single color. I know they did it to telegraph the time shift, but it's just distracting.
I do like the village tradition of useless men - that's a very European rural thing - we have something of the same tradition in my family.
This episode certainly shows us where Gala got her tendency towards entitlement from, Julia trying to extort money from Andreu based on the fact that he "might" be Gala's father is decidedly sketchy. She's causing chaos in these people's lives and isn't even very nice to them. And, talking of entitlement - I can forgive Kate for thinking she can just walk into a doctor's office in Spain and get a prescription, no questions asked, because she's 17 and doesn't know any better. But did Gala actually think through what it would mean to bring a child that needs medical support to a foreign country where she has no legal right to access ongoing care? Xavi (the doctor) is a twat, but he's not wrong that he can't just write her a prescription without her medical history and proof of legal residence.
So Amat and Gala - this episode is interesting because she yells less, is less generally annoying, and we see real chemistry developing between them. It's interesting to watch how often Amat is looking at her mouth and not her eyes when they are talking. It’s such a subtle tell for attraction and he just nails it. And then we get the whole getting drunk together and being cute. And then Gala finds out that Fred is cheating on her, so he's a rat and she doesn't have to feel any loyalty to him. Which brings us to the "almost-kiss" on the patio. At that moment I was sold, even though it seemed a little fast (she was happily married to Fred less than a week before), and then Montse shows up and the writers throw that massive curve ball at us.
And for me, everything falls apart at that point. If they'd chosen to have Amat talk to Montse that night, even just to make an excuse for the evening and talk to her later; he's still hungover, he's not feeling great, he's tired - ANYTHING other than going off upstairs and fucking like bunnies five minutes after he'd almost kissed Gala.
It's unfathomable to me why the writers chose to make him look like SUCH a dick. Even if it's just a friends-with-benefits thing he owes Montse an honest conversation about developing feelings for another woman. It just makes him look like he doesn't want to blow up his no-strings sex on the side deal in case he doesn't actually have a shot with Gala. Again, it makes him look like a dick. Even if he's a still pretty dick in another fine selection of slightly ratty henleys (and that one lovely sweater in the flashback scene).
I have pretty much come to terms with it. but it's jarring, especially as I know it's only going to get worse over the next three episodes.
I have decided to work through it with a little writing-therapy. I am taking a great deal of delight in the fact that the entire opus of Land of Woman fiction on AO3 is going to be Amat/Montse for the near future (one story up there, more to come).

You know the Shotgun Wedding Megatron variant of the Doner Clause AU has to have interesting implications for Tarn's Relationship with his Father-in-law. Tarn has to copy sempai Megatron so you know he's gonna be a devoted little worshiper/priest of Megatronus. He's not an Athiest in this one because complete Freedom of Worship (including the right not to) in Megatron's magnum opus. Plus the High Priest of Solus' own conjux decreed the wedding.
Tourniquet is predisposed to dislike the guy on principle. The Healer had time to accept the Nurse's eventual settling down with a sweetspark, especially since you hadn't taken the Trial to be a full-fledge Healer, opting to support instead, and slowly decreasing your ventures with Tourniquet into the wilderness and off-world outposts. Tourniquet had fuel pump failure from the barrage of realizations that not only Deadzone stole away his darling balefire that latched onto him as a lost emberling but had gotten sparked and then abandoned in a distant galaxy with no way back!
If Deadzone was alive, he would be a dead mech crawling. Literally. The Healer would slowly carve the fleeing 'con into pieces as he used the mech as live bait for the more cannibalistic targets or mech-eating species.
Tourniquet will have a lot of conflicting emotions about the entire thing.
On one hand, your new spouse is a dedicated mech that's taking care of your needs and isn't squeamish like the last one. On the other hand, the mech is an offworlder as well, and you're adamant to stay bonded to the mech with a lot of issues stemming from broken Seekerkin-coding.
Tourniquet would need a lot of guided meditation via hymns and sparring with his own kind because he needs that level of brutality to clear his head on how the First Conjunx had a hand on tying you and Tarn together as Resonants and the High Priest of the Fallen had declared for the marriage. How can a Healer go against their own patron's love?
You're torn between setting up tentative meetings in the outskirts at a festival with the bitties or ensuring they will never, ever meet. You know that your adoptive creator/mentor will be highly upset because Tourniquet, in some ways, is a traditionalist. Not only in the way of your training, but he also has the tendency to test your other relationships. Be it friendships, roommates, or romantic to see if those mecha or people will be able to guard your back and "keep the hearth steady to guide you home, ember."
Plus, Tourniquet will most likely flip out that he wasn't able to provide a blessing onto the etchings upon your wings or Tarn's chassis and you stood alone without kin or kith at the site, nor was part of the initial bonding phase between flock members for the fresh newsparks.
(He was deeply touched that you kept your old travel blankets and prayer carvings locked with his biosignature, so the bitties are somewhat familiar with him.)
Either this Tarn and Tourniquet will be able to debate spirituality between modern Cybertron and Caminus with the fascinating differences between the texts and oral traditions, especially with the linguistic drift as well as how Camiens had managed to keep Primal Vernacular alive within their legal system and religious practices, or they'll be in a constant war of attrition over "the proper way of doing things" from rearing newsparks to psychology tactics within a short-window interrogation to inducing a forced sleep in a delirious comrade to a simple engex spritzer recipe.
(On a side note, Tarn thinks it's a complete sin that Tourniquet doesn't garnish his drinks. Meanwhile, Tourniquet is upset that Tarn is too focused on the overall appearance rather than the resulting taste, especially since the fruit rinds can be used in other applications. )

I wish people would realize that Ghost isn't big enough of a band that the frontman would have say in which countries/venues they tour in. Like, he himself has said that he prefers playing indoors, now nearly all the gigs are outdoors/festivals. Maybe there will be a SA tour or some small tour in Asia but I'd wish people would stop blaming Tobbe if these things don't happen. Ghost's management is shit and he's doing his best with the cards his given. Blame the fucking corporate greed.
To be fair, I haven't seen that many people blaming him specifically, I think most people are well aware who the real enemy is, so to speak. He's always referred to as "the mastermind behind Ghost" so it's easy to be tricked into thinking that he's pulling all the strings, but the truth is there are five guys above him pulling his strings. And that's in regards to everything from marketing through touring, to recording. Sometimes when he speaks about the industry stuff, you can tell he's kinda pissed at label politics and the like, how they tell him who to work with and where to record, but what can he do? He's probably under gazillion contracts. You need to be on like Metallica's level to have full autonomy, but Ghost isn't. It took Metallica 30 years to gain full ownership of their master recordings because that's how long their contracts were. They were only able to form their own record label because they were in the financially privileged position to be able to do this, most bands won't ever afford that. It's crazy stuff. Rise Above has rights to Opus Eponymous until ~2030 and until then Tobias can't do shit with that record while they can profit off it by repressing it a million times in various colors, which they do. Isn't that ridiculous? You made a record and legally it's not even yours. And that's the reality of 99% of artists.

In a Good!Dio AU, he would simply not be a vampire or hate the Joestar specifically, but still be a menace, that's in his blood atp.
A Good!Dio doesn't kill Jonathan, but does make sure that Erina's wedding bucket has metal flowers to make it heavy, just beacouse.
Good!Dio won't get George II killed, but would teach him how to stab.
And then, his magnum opus; Joseph Joestar. His absolute favourite.
Image a Joseph, who apart from being a jokester, know legal lingo to get away with anything, a little rascal Joseph who can say "my uncle's a lawyer" to do anything ( it doesn't matter how many generations pass, Dio cannot be promoted to great-Uncle, somebody is dying).
Good!Dio would kill at least one pet from each new Joestar to "build character".
Good!Dio's favourite is Joseph, but he spoils only Holly, he says she's the superior Joestar (blond, she's just the blond one).
Good!Dio getting everything he even wanted by just playing dirty on the inheritance documents, and then some.

The only Goncharov adaptation that matters is the video game adaptation Super Goncharov (1992) on the Super Nintendo. Followed by Super Goncharov 2 : The Return of Goncharov (1994) released two years later. Both adventure games with role playing elements allowing the players to go deeper into the plot of the original film and developing a more intricate, intriguing and complex storyline. A perfect addition to the saga. I must also give credit to the attempt made by Nintendo of creating something unique and new with Goncharov Kart (1995) on the Game Boy, who mostly was a success thanks to the use of the original themes and soundtrack from the first film (not to mention it was released at the same time as the VHS boxset of the original film with THX remastered audio). Now I know my opinion will divide among the true fans of the saga but personally I think Goncharov 64 (1997) on the Nintendo 64 was a terrible adaptation despite being a commercial success. The switch to a 3D plateform game was a poor decision and imo it lost itself trying to edulcorate the original storyline and atmosphere of the movies to try to touch a broader and younger audience. Proof of it being the catastrophic follow up to this game : the awful Goncharov Evolution (1998) developed in a hast to capitalize on the relative success of the previous opus. Some will disagree but I believe the poor sales of it compared to the astronomical budget invested into it was the main reason why sales of the Nintendo 64 also dropped significantly the same year and why in the end the console was discontinued by Nintendo. It only got worse for Nintendo when they announced their new Gamecube console only one day before it was confirmed they’d lost the rights for Goncharov video games adaptations against Sony after a legal battle that costed several hundreds millions of dollars to both companies. A shame because I was excited by the (then tragically cancelled) Gamecube adaptation : Goncharov versus Goncharov (2001/unreleased) and especially by the two immersive accessories it was meant to be played with. The GonchaPad(tm) an innovative gamepad allowing the player to shoot with a customizable rifle-like pad all the while controlling the character, and the GonchActive(tm) interactive headset allowing you to connect with your character and interact with them in real time. I know Sony’s acquisition of the commercial rights gave us amazing adaptations on the PS1 and PS2 but they were imo classic and basic games with no risks taken. We’ll see if the recently announced Goncharov-VR (2025) on the PS5 will be up to the standards of these classics. I fear trying to innovate only for the sake of it could give us another catastrophic modern interpretation of the saga like last year’s Goncha’Party (2023)… I mean turning the Grand Orchestra and Opera scenes into a karaoke may help the players being more involved, but you will never change my mind about the fact it’s a complete travesty of the author’s work! I guess we’ll see next year.
Oh yeah, god the N64 3D adaptations were pretty bad... the platforming was clunky as heck and I really don't understand why they did Katya so dirty with the altered plotline either! Honestly I liked the Sony games for the franchise, something about their polygonal aesthetic really vibes well with the original film's styling.

the magnum opus and the muse.
yaguchi yatora x reader
notes: [818 words.] geidai yatora makes me question everything fr ): anyways pls give blue period the love it deserves!! i am literally scraping the floor for crumbs
disclaimers: university au! yaguchi, mentions of smoking & drinking (they discourage it tho), brief mention of underage drinking, reader & yaguchi are probs depressed, friends pining for each other, questioning the future & reminiscing abt the past!!
masterlist.
“How does it feel to hate the things you love?”
A puff of smoke escapes his chapped lips, eyes glistening with a sense of mirth from your question.
Yatora Yaguchi has always been an enigma. From the moment he dyed his hair and pierced his ears, to when his love for art blossomed into an almost self destructive endeavour.
You wonder why he did it. Why would he go through such lengths for it all? For his definition of love.
Even more so now, as he stood in front of you. Yatora looks different now, you thought. Clad in nothing but an all black hoodie and weathered jeans gifted to him during his high-school days, one would think he looks the same as usual. Nothing out of the ordinary.
But you know better. He knows better.
His usually bleached hair is showing his natural roots. The whites of his eyes are bloodshot; Yatora walks with a sense of lethargy instead of self-assured confidence, a feeling you know all too well.
He, too, is hit with the feeling of sullen dreams.
“It fucking sucks. I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing.” Yatora brings up a hand to his face, covering the bags that rimmed his eyes. “Pass me another smoke, would you?”
A reluctant grimace finds its way onto your face, hand reaching into your pocket for the box of poison anyways. “You’re killing your lungs that way, y’know.”
“And you’re killing your liver. You’re one to talk.”
Downing the liquor you would once steal from your parent’s cabinets, and were now legal to buy it with your own money, you reminisced.
Back to your youth. Back to when Yatora was encapsulating a blue Shibuya - not living amongst the colour. Back to when you and he didn’t lay in shards of crushed hopes that pierce through the very cores of your beings.
“It would be easier,” you turn to him, watching how the evening glow of Shibuya painted his face with warmth. “If you lived without passion. Like me.”
A beat of silence passes through the air. “No thanks,” he interjects.
“Hey! Why?” You punch his shoulder half-heartedly, “I’m serious. I almost died trying to create a so-called ‘magnum opus’, and now you might too. That’s the last thing I want from you.”
Another cloud of smoke enriches the air around you. And with the smile he gives you, one with the brilliance of a thousand stars, Yatora makes you realise. Within this ghost city, so devoid of life, there was still hope. Hope that came in the form of an ex-delinquent boy, now a Geidai student.
“Because, you said it yourself back in our second year of junior high. That’s the worst way of living. And eventually, you’ll lose sense of yourself, right?” His hand reaches to readjust the scarf he placed around you, delicately. Like he always was, with you. “I believe you still live with passion. You just refuse to believe it.”
Yes, you thought to yourself. Yatora’s right when he says you do live with passion.
But it’s not what he may think.
It’s not in the form of art, not in the tangible, literal sense anyways. Not in the way society thinks of what art is.
It’s in the form of love.
In the form of him.
Yatora is your magnum opus. And you hope to see him bloom into something magnificent.
So, you partly know the answer to your own question. To feel hatred for the things you love? It is to feel hatred towards the man you dedicated yourself wholly to, for he is the one who is slowly leading himself into turmoil.
But, just as before, you will wait. Forever, and evermore. The words lingering on the tip of your tongue will remain unspoken until he, too, sees you in a similar light.
You sigh. That’s enough thinking; you’ve drunk too much again.
A slight tug to your hands snaps you back to reality. “C’mon, daydreamer. My mum has been wanting to see you again. How does spending a night at my house sound?”
The slight desperate tone in his voice makes you realise that maybe, just maybe, Yatora is clinging to the past too.
Little do you know, he views you as something incomprehensible too. Why does he always search for a glimpse of you in the Geidai halls? Attending class would be the last thing you do. It is all unknown to him.
Yatora’s love burns. He is able to paint even through tears; he never feels as if too much is enough. And maybe that’s why he refuses to let you go. He can never get enough of you.
He can never get enough of the person that historians would dictate as his muse.
And maybe that's why he refuses to say the words which cling onto the deep crevices of his heart so very deeply.
