this is such a late-night crack idea that i'm not even going to call it a "theory", but wouldn't it be fun if canon tenna is like. a wizard of oz situation where they talk to you on screens throughout the city using the giant cgi face we see in the trailer. but when you actually get to their hq and meet them in person they're actually this pathetic little scam-artist of a darkner.

"Workin' Boys" is quite vocal about Grace and Ted mirroring each other somewhat (both believing the show to be about prostitution, Ted being dead and Grace being a murderer by the end) and while many have already pointed out that they're both "doomed by the narrative" (Ted always dies, Grace always ends up the villain) I don't think we've talked about the fact that the way they're doomed are exact opposites of each other.

Ted always dies because he makes a (sometimes) selfish decision. He runs away in TGWDLM, he tries to take back Jenny in "Time Bastard", he gets up to leave in "Workin' Boys".

Grace always lives because she is forced to act selflessly by giving up her innocence. She has to let Boy Jerry and Girl Jeri get murdered to save Steph and Pete, she has to give up her chastity to save the world from Max, she has to shoot Hidgens to protect anyone else in the theatre.

Ted is a bastard who barely cares about what his actions are like in the minds of others. He always dies because of his bad decisions.

Grace is utterly devoted to a higher power and so desperately wants to be "good". It's never her choice to become evil, it's up to fate.

how do you come up with the ideas for the entities? They all seem so unique and so distinctly not from our world

[It mostly depends on what I'm inspired by. Usually they're based off objects or phenomena I find interesting. Such as princes being based obviously off prince ruperts' drops, and pelets being a combination of pele's hair and pele's tears. Scopopedes are based off of pinatas/ribbons and my own very mild scopophobia. Sailors are based off pool toys and slugcats.

I have a set of rules that I try to mostly follow when making them, some of them including them not being humanoid, not being too organic-looking, etc. etc. etc.

Though please keep in mind I haven't designed every entity!! dropletts and night skies were designed by Cactai, Maax were designed by Jaydan, and several submissions which were made by different people made it onto the blog.]

[my guesses are] Not only were the defenders corrupt (which I would guess would be the first “extra” emotional wall he had), but presumably he still opened up to the party, and still fell in love, only to learn that the person he loves probably will die, and is going through it anyways, which will make him cut himself off to “not bog down their possible last days with a unwanted crush from me”! Im guessing he overcorrected and basically stonewalled Siffrin. And, because of his new job, he feels like his relationship is more transactional! Ohh pain and suffering and pain!
