I think being born and raised Ontarian has given me some skewed perspectives of the more rural provinces and territories in Canada. For anyone whoâs not an expert on Canada, every province and territory skews rural compared to Southern Ontario, with the exception of some parts of QuĂ©bec.
Being (relatively) close to the US border is a huge privilege here, and lots of people joke that thereâs just nothing happening in say, Saskatchewan or Manitoba, despite the fact that wherever thereâs people, thereâs gonna be things happening there, too.
Idk, it just seems disrespectful in retrospect? So if anyone in rural/more northern provinces and territories wants to share their favourite parts of living there, Iâm happy to learn!
#fyi this isnât about like#rural areas having less access to certain things#it just seems unfair in retrospect to assume that means theyâre boring#iâm sure thereâs lots of interesting things that i was never taught#so i just never bothered to learn#anyway i can see why some provinces clown on Ontarians now#canada#canpoli#canadian politics

nvm the americans in the notes going âi live in america you donât want privatized healthcareâ are normies and fine itâs the fucking americans going LISTEN HERE YOU FUCKS
americans stop pretending youâre the main characters in the story and eat my entire ass
#i want to have empathy for the story they gave but to start off like a total wanker talking down to us like ontarians haven#t been freaking out about this and talking about it over and over for years now is disgusting#we don't need you to increase the fucking font size and yell at us like we're children we fucking know we don't want goddamn privatized#healthcare jesus christ i hate looking at cdnpoli online bc americans never stop making it about them as if they're the only one#who have ever suffered from bad policy or some shit and the rest of us are dumb fools needing to be told by y'all#i Know. we all personally fucking know bc there's plenty of instances like the story in the notes having already happened here#this bill would just be another last push. he's already done so much damage and if you cared you would know exactly what and how#GOD i hate this but it's so frustrating to see americans make it about themselves as if i don't have enough trouble#every single fucking day talking to canadians about this shit. bc so many normie libs are obsessed with looking at america okay just#stop it. if we can shut up and support y'all during your political struggles by god you can try to do it for us#anyways i guess the vote offered doesn't even mean anything but idk why i thought there would be#there's actually no stopping it unless somehow ford got booted in the next day but that's not a thing#it's just capitalism lol. and fascism. bc he's already violated the charter and there's already brutality and capitalism demands more and#more. violating federal law some more to make sure the rich can devour our corpses some more is just inevitable

Anyway if you're curious what dumb Canadian politics thing I'm mad about right now:
The premier of Ontario (a premier of a province is like a governor of a state) has decided in advance of an election that he wants to give out a $200 "dividend" to each Ontarian, notwithstanding the fact that we are in a huge deficit and this will cost ~$3 billion. Like what are we doing.

Can u tell me some stuff about Quebec?
wanna give her a cameo in an fic
Hey! So first of all, YESS!
Now, you werenât quite precise in your ask, so imma share a variety of my own headcanons to give you some more info^^
Physically:
She has middle back long, slightly curled deep brown hair, with copper reflect in the summer, and the crystal-clear blue eyes you can imagine (when sheâs angry her eyes become more white than blue, and the air is way colder than before). Her skin is pale, pinkish on the nose and cheeks in the winter, and she got some freckles. In autumn, her hair is redder and more blond than brown (leaves changing colour) when sheâs in the south of the province.
Her body temperature is usually colder than any of the Northeast States and lower the more she is north in her province (the only state who share the same temperature is Alaska). Now, during the summer, depending on whatâs going on, she can get as warm as the lower east coast state when she has wildfire. If she had tornadoes, sheâs physically frazzled, and if itâs flood, her skin takes a greenish or bluish tint. If itâs a good summer (no fire, tornadoes, or floods) she has a good temperature, around the same as the Northeast states.
For her clothes, from Automn to spring (October to April), itâs usually a t-shirt under a flannel, a toque (beanie) or earmuff, jeans, mittens, and converse (boots if thereâs snow). Her shirt is usually a HABs shirt (Montreal Canadian hockey team), especially during hockey season, her flannel dark blue or bright red, and her toque vary. Sometime is a blue one with her name on it, other times a white one with a pompom, or itâs a Nordiques de QuĂ©bec one (QuĂ©bec City hockey team before they were bought by Colorado and became the Avalanche).
During the summer, itâs usually capri pants or long shorts, a tank top or t-shirt, a cap (usually a Buffalo bills one, or Jersey Devil after she started her relationship with NJ), and sunglasses. Sometimes she wears flip-flops, other times sandals, depends on her mood and where sheâs going. Sheâs a fervent user of sunscreen and always got water on her.
Character:
Honestly, depends on the situation. She can be a real Bitch if she wants to, mainly with the other province when they attack her (usually the wests ones). Sheâs a mom friend if she knows you and care about you and will make fun of you if you embarrass yourself with her (she respects boundaries tho). She knows her worth and is incredibly stubborn when she wants to. If you dare compare her to France sheâll make you regret it and she is really proud of her culture (never says Poutine was made anywhere else than in QuĂ©bec, she and I will fight you about it). Sheâs always happy to teach people French and if you respect her sheâll respect you.
Sheâs polite meeting new people and like to share culture; sheâll judge you if you do something stupid though.
Concerning religion, sheâs a little lost. When she became New France, in the 1500s, she was divided between the Catholics and Natives spirituality (usually animist) before staying Catholic. Then, during the Quiet Revolution in the 60s, QuĂ©bĂ©cois rejected religion, and made the government secular (not linked to religion). So, I believe sheâll be mainly Agnostic, for mostly only the oldest generations (Boomer and older) are church goers.
Relationship:
Now, her relationship is carved from centuries of existence and experience and differ from if theyâre Canadian or not.
Canadian provinces and Territories:
Sheâs *friendly* with New Brunswick and Nunavut, but donât really speak with Prince Edward Island or Nova Scotia. Sheâs extremely supportive of Newfoundland and Labrador (Trans man) and has a great relationship of mutual respect with Northwest Territories (Theyâre as old as the other and have known each other for a long time).
Concerning Ontario itâs more of an indifferent to *I kind of care about you* relationship. They donât agree about a lot of things and usually snap each other (Ontarian drivers are terrible, I swear), but they will support each other when the West become snappy at them.
QuĂ©bec barely care about Manitoba (the feelingâs mutual) and Yukon (they donât know each other well).
Now, for the West province, well, its complicated. British Columbia is a bitch most of the time because she likes to rile up other people. QuĂ©bec respect her because sheâs alone on the other side of the Rockies and is the oldest Western province, and as women alone on their own for a long time of their existence, they both respect each other. It doesnât stop BC from having terrible social skills (except when sheâs high, then sheâs like a hippie and is nicer while also staying passive-aggressive).
Now, Alberta and Saskatchewan are twins; they share the same Province day and are only older than Nunavut. Saskatchewan is the nicest one, but still resent QuĂ©bec for trying to separate in the 70s. Alberta uses QuĂ©bec to blame most of her problem; the French province is far from her, refuse to speak to her in English, and well, QuĂ©bec doesnât care about them most of the time. To her they are children, who doesnât understand her, or even try to get her point of view, so she wonât fight them about it.
Concerning the states:
I wrote about QC and Alaska and their relationship in I've tried to put this all behind me (I think I was wrecked all along), but in short they met during the New France era, when Alaska was still owned by Russia, and became close friends despite the language barrier. They met again because of Maine.
For the Northeast, Virginia, Georgia, and the Carolinas, I already share some of it in my fic Five times QuĂ©bec helped a Northeast State. I headcanon her as on the Aromantic spectrum (Gray or Demi) and Pansexual, and she slept with PA, NH, and Vermont before they settled down (NH with Vermont and PA with Ohio). She and Jersey have a together/not together relationship (really you need to read the fic to get it) and sheâs married to NY (QPR).
Maine is like her brother, Connecticut, NH, and Vermont her close friends, and the rest are her friends. She loves Virginia and their ability to bring the other back in order when they get too chaotic. Mass, PA and she are always ready to fight each other concerning hockey (they were pissed when tempa won two Stanley cup), and she likes to watch Rhode Island kick someoneâs butt.
For the other southern states, well they helped her out when Britain ordered her captured (before her wedding to NY) and she always liked them for that.
Finally, Louisiana. I didnât present their relationship yet, but Iâm working on their fic.
Louie resent her. Itâs not conscious, more something they both refused to acknowledge, really. He didnât know that, when they were separated, she was sold to the British while France sold him to Spain. He resent her because she never tried to get to him, or get him back, and how she never helped him from Spain treatment.
Iâm waiting to write those two, so yeah.
That was it! You got me to write a story, omg. If you have any question hit me up^^

Hello hi đ if you are willing to indulge me I would love to hear any and all of your Canadian Greg thoughts!!
I am also a Canadian Greg truther but I live in America so I canât imagine the full extent of what it means for him to be a Canadian boyâą
Ooooohhhh hell yeah I love to share the Good Word about Canadian Greg at least from my thoughts
while I tend to tweak his background based on the specific fic I am writing here in there, I really truly believe Greg has moved around a lot in his life. I like to think in fact he's got American citizenship/was probably born there but after his dad (presumably) left after he (presumably) cheated on Greg's mother, they moved back to Canada so Marianne could be closer to Ewan (for better or for worse considering Ewan is....... kinda a dick imo) and now he's a dual-citizen, always an interloper, never quite Canadian enough but not quite settled into American culture.
Partially due to my own experience I think he grew up mostly in Ontario, he doesn't come across as, like, Quebecois to me tho neither do Ewan or Logan despite canonically being raised there so uh you know, and I only ever spent 5 weeks in Quebec myself. but, French Canadian peoples tend to be connected to their Francophone identities in my experience with Acadians and other Francophones in other areas of Ontario, so yeah i mean idk. It's not impossible but he feels more Ontarian, I could see some Western hcs but I've never been further West so like........... i stick him in Ontario bc it's what I know better.
On that, I think he speaks passable but not excellent French with an Okay accent, he likes and knows hockey, has a variety of Canadian slang he doesn't pull out around his US folks. He likes colour-coded Canadian money because it's easier, dammit.
I also like to imagine him spending a bit of time in small town Atlantic Canada, that is the epitome of self-indulgence for Me because that's where my own actual experience mostly lies. He has some random factoids about fishing. I like to imagine he did Little Rocks which is a curling program for kids, he was almost definitely a Scout (he might have moved to Canada young enough to be a Beaver Scoutđ„ș) and he knows, how to safely start a fire and camping basics (i think he prefers to stay in a cabin to a tent tho lmfao), and I believe he genuinely likes some outdoorsy activities, such as hiking, but also wants to be able to retreat to a comfortable area and not be left out in the rain or anything like that.
I think he was raised Catholic which could be anywhere lmao and knows how to hunt but doesn't love it (which I think it was said he did in the scripts in Hunting, as well as Tom, but I can't recall?). I think he made friends that always felt temporary, he was often the new kid and always the weird gawky guy, but he got along with some people even if he was sometimes the butt of the joke too. He did stupid shit like putting hairspray on his hands and letting other guys light it on fire, partially to fit in and partially because "What's the worst that could happen". Not necessarily exclusive to Canada but I knew these guys irl. So.
One of the things I've noticed that is a big difference between Canadians and US Americans is we don't mythologize or adore our founders the way they do. Unsure impact that has on Greg, but part of me likes to do a little excusing for him, that he rationalizes meddling with American politics and the landscape of the News using the idea that it's not his "Real home", even though he knows damn well the US impacts Canada in a huge way. It's another one of his many excuses, like, "it's not my fault, i'll get in trouble if I don't, i need a job to survive and this one is as good as any" etc.
Finally. Another one of my Greg headcanons despite having 0 evidence canonically and in fact evidence against it to an extent- he likes a good graphic tee. Most of them are stored at his mother's. Most importantly, he owns this:
which i photographed in a real Canadian walmart.
#Greg hirsch#thank you for allowing me to rant#if you have any other questions or specific things to wonder about let me know#succession#i love greg. he my blorbo.

pointing at you. CANADIAN!!! i wish to know: 16, 26, 29 đđŠ«đ«đđ„
HELLO from the mooseland. let me do this out of order bc my 'eh' anwer is so long gjgfhklj 26. does your nationality get portrayed in hollywood/american media? what do you think about the portrayal? i can't complain too much because media usually has the generalities correct, but we almost always get portrayed as silly and bumbling. i find this to be very grating. also i hate the weird fake accent american media always gives us gfhjlhfgkl. my biggest gripe: i feel american media is deeply confused about how much of canada is wilderness and how harsh our environment is. there are massive cities everywhere in canada & none of the provinces are difficult to live in from an environmental standpoint. our winters are harsh but idk so are summers in tokyo. also a lot of the vast tracks of wilderness are protected land -- they're undeveloped because it's illegal to build there, not because they're uninhabitable. 29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country? there's this stereotype that people from british columbia and people from ontario hate each other. idk what it's like out there but most ontarians love BC and yearn for their mild winters. 16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with? ok tbh canadians are very lucky in that most of our stereotypes are positive. the major stereotype is that we are endlessly polite and i do not actually think this is true -- i think the actual situation is that canadians tend to express nastiness through overpoliteness and overfamiliarity, so people often fail to notice when we're being rude. anyway it's kind of a beneficial stereotype in 1:1 conversations but it can also be a bit grating, especially in media depictions. the one i somewhat strongly agree with: canadians actually do say 'eh' -- it's a completely normal part of speech. HOWEVER people outside of canada almost always use it incorrectly. here is a very incomplete explanation of how 'eh' works linguistically: - broadly speaking, it softens statements and conveys familiarity - as a general rule, it is used with statements to which you already know the answer therefore:
- you can use it to politely convey factual disagreement - you can use it to make things sound a bit friendlier ('nice weather, eh?' is to me a bit friendlier than 'nice weather' or 'nice weather, isn't it?') - you can technically use it to solicit information, but doing so implies a desired outcome. ('are you going to come next week?' is a question, 'could you please come next week?' is a request, 'you're coming next week, eh?' is a demand that's very hard to politely wriggle out of) - because overfamiliarity and overpoliteness is such a common mode of canadian sarcasm, it can also come across as really aggressive it's also fairly informal and there are certain class and regional links to it. ANYWAY that's a very lengthy explanation to a short question. tl;dr we say 'eh' for real.
#thank you !!!!#i feel canadian winter looks and sounds more alarming than it actually is#if u look up my city on a map it will inform you that i live in the middle of uninhabited wilderness#but there isn't even a proper forest within walking distance

5, 7 and 36!
5. how accurately is your country depicted?
(For Canada) He fits the global stereotype but, like some people have pointed out, I'd have expected him to be a bit more rugged and woodsy loll the amount of people I grew up with who just hiked and camped and mountain climbed and hunted all over the place all the time every weekend đ€Ż I'm also from Alb*rta though so my opinions basically mean nothing! Now that I'm living in Ottawa for school, I think Canada should've been meaner underneath his veneer of shy politeness (noah fence to Ontarians I'm just not used to how you guys interact with each other kdjslhgf)
(For China) Hmm this is a difficult question ngl LOL there are some things that I was super pleasantly surprised about, Hima once said he made China more cold and cruel/intimidating seeming but after meeting actual Chinese people ended up making him more cutesy, I think the affection for pandas and hello kitty and cute things is accurate, these things are popular in China! I like that he's a little bad-tempered and irritable with western countries and the way he's proud and overbearing and clearly ancient both in a humourous grandpa way and in a serious and slightly tragic way.
However, parts of his characterization bother me a little... low-hanging fruit, but I hate 'aru' deeply and with a passion, whether or not the concept of Chinese people saying 'aru' really did come from the colonial era, it's just tired either way and I cringe whenever I hear it. I don't love how clumsy and stupid he acts, like I think it's cute in an isolated way, but in the greater context...
Ultimately, I don't think it's horribly egregious. A lot of Chinese and Sino diaspo fans enjoy his character and/or have interpretations that still clearly have their roots in canon, and I'm personally fairly satisfied with it. Oh, and one thing I loved is how originally all of the provinces were supposed to be their own characters who live in China's house! I wish Hima had brought that up more than once, I love that idea.
7. food-related headcanons?
MAN ok hmm! China has 8 great food regions, Anhui, Cantonese, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Szechuan and Zhejiang, and I'd imagine he can cook them all, but as Han Chinese culture has always been more concentrated in the vaguely more Southern regions, I'd imagine he'd prefer relatively more Southern food... dishes from Dongbei and Inner Mongolia, the north, in general, all have heavy influences from Mongolia and northern groups, and tend to be more wheat, butter, and milk heavy. and I'd imagine he's lactose intolerant and prefers rice LOL although he still enjoys Northern food that he can digest! For an example, breakfast.
I think China likes to make food from scratch sometimes taking days at a time to cook, but also enjoys instant noodles (though he modifies them and adds eggs and veggies) and pre-made food but he would never admit it. This is based off of canon, but he also likes fusion food and international food! Hotpot with cheese-filled rice cake and fried chicken, salmon sashimi was popular in parts of China for a while recently iirc, he's just a big foodie who likes a variety of flavours. He's very adventurous.
I think he likes to cook most of his meals but goes out for breakfast a lot, before a meeting or while out on his morning walk he just swings by one of Beijing's many breakfast stalls for a doufunao, some youtiao, shaobing, some doujiang, etc. I can't speak on Southern breakfasts, but when he spends time down there, I imagine they would also have a lot of cheap and fast breakfast shops, though the food is very different.
General headcanons: I think when he's tired he just gets a flavourless bowl of congee with some salted duck egg for breakfast, and that when one of his kids are sick he makes them steamed eggs and boiled pear soup. He has a strong grasp on the different elements of food in Chinese medicine and can integrate it into his cooking easily! He also makes his own xiancai (pickled veg) and has a doujiang machine for homemade fast soy milk. His cabinet filled with spices and vinegars and chili oils and cooking wine and so on and so forth is this huge walk-in closet of a place organized with homemade labels and filled from the top to the bottom. When he cooks, he has several stoves going at a time, frying and boiling and steaming and chopping all at once, before celebrations like new years he spends days in the kitchen. The only thing he doesn't make from scratch himself for celebrations are dumplings, while he's working away everyone gathers around the cleared-off dining table and Macau shapes the dough and they all make dumplings together and Hong Kong puts weird fillings in some dumplings as pranks and Taiwan folds them into cute little animal shapes and fills them with brown sugar.
I have a lot of things to say about food but if I say anymore it'll turn into a book, so I'll leave it at that for now hehe maybe I'll make a proper post on it's own sometime!
36. if you could, what event would you host?
Hmm maybe one for OCs, or minority/native culture OCs! I don't think it would get enough traction, but I'd also love to host a China based event LOL I just don't think there would be enough people to participate :')

Secret of the Ontarian Lodger
All David knows is that there's a new guy in the room next to him. He's quiet, polite, and unbearably cute. Normally aloof and disinterested in strangers, David is oddly drawn to this man and his deep brown eyes.
Crimson Fury
Twyla doesn't get mad. She doesn't get upset or worked up or angry. Even when the cafe is packed and patrons are demanding. Even when customers don't pay their tabs. Even when her mom doesn't recognize her, and her cousin asks for money, and her neighbor's dog barks incessantly.
Twyla doesn't get mad, until she does.
Song for a Maid
Stevie's introspection post-Emir, feeling like she's stuck in her life and trying to figure out what she wants.

While I fully understand and appreciate what the post is talking about, specifically regarding the "if weâre talking about politics and we say 'Harris,' who else could we possibly be talking about?" question, as a Canadian (specifically Ontarian) when I talk about politics and say "Harris" I'm basically always referring to former Ontario Premier Mike Harris, who among other things gutted the health-care sector, causing mass lay-offs, including my mom being illegally fired when she was supposed to go on maternity leave while she was pregnant with my older sister.
But for Americans, yeah, Harris should be the default Mononym for the current Democratic front runner (last I checked she technically isn't the official candidate yet until the Democratic National Convention in August). I am somewhat hopeful that actually getting elected will shift the way people talk about her (i.e. news sources referring to her as "President Harris"), because I don't remember seeing/hearing anyone ever referring to Angela Merkel as "Chancellor Angela".
sometimes someone has the name first in your mind and you'll always jump to them. I get that. especially if it's another politician with the same name who's a total scumbag, I can't blame you thinking about the harris that affected your life more strongly
I feel like I have seen people call merkel just "angela" but it was pretty rare
