Gearrscannán ar YouTube
Short films on YouTube
(Don't worry, everything has English subtitles in the videos themselves)
Fán https://youtu.be/e3xnvkMp_1Q?si=i-4pmljDbzA8bRtu
Created by the incredible @nibmoss, an absolute queen (Bánríon). It is a short sapphic story about 2 best friends who end up together and it is my favourite short story ever!!! It is also my favourite piece of Irish media in existence!!! I love it!!! It is incredible!!! BEYOND AMAZING!!!
Yu Ming is ainm dom https://youtu.be/JqYtG9BNhfM?si=jnZjP4LozqOhNxkI
This is a classic. Ive had 4 different teachers show me this over the years, and my first year Irish class studied it exam style. It was the first piece that we studied and everyone LOVED it, people were quoting it all the time. Every second conversation had someone using a line from it. It's a crows pleaser and simple to listen to even without the subtitles provided. It also has a great storyline about a man who is fed up with his life in China and learns Irish to move over here, and well (bhuel) , I won't spoil the plot twist for you
Lipservice https://youtu.be/4QP0eEhhTSo?si=1DLvo_ECRhwGI5s8
It's the day of the oral exams and everyone is terrified (bhí imní an domhain ar gach duine), people are rehearsing in the bathrooms and speaking French instead of English, the stuff that half of them come out with is absolutely gas, this one is such a bit of craic, I was in stitches. And the bit at the end is so sweet. Is breá liom an gearrscannán seo agus beidh mé mo scrúdú béil i dhá bhliain 🙈🙈🙈 (I loved this short film and I've my speaking test in 2 years🙈🙈🙈
Filleann ar feall https://youtu.be/Tay7eMxas2k?si=q3ksVJVYJ7E_xxoa
IT'S CILLIAN MURPHY AG CAINT AS GAEILGE!!! You can't beat a bit of Cillian, he's a national treasure. And this is 2000 Cillian, he's so young (this was before I was born) he's in the Gaeltacht for his holidays with a grumpy friend, on a job to sell some Putchín, and he is everyone's favourite sweetgeart, a bit of a himbo, and a respecter of old ladies. Agus deir duine sa sna tuairimí (a person in the comments said that it's like Breaking bad, but with an Irish teacher that instead of a chemistry one (I've never seen Breaking Bad, so I don't know how true that is, but I do know that this was AR FHEABHAS!!!
Rúbaí https://youtu.be/jjYx5v2BUWo?si=tFu1ektBvHNkoQFB
This is a short story about a little girl (cailín beag) who's class is about to make their 1st Holy Communion, but she doesn't believe in God (ní creideann sí i nDia). She's everyone is trying to convince her that god is real and she's just like "nope, read a bit of Darwin, he's great, I'm off to collect worms", even to the priests face and towards the end there's a bitter sweet twist which gives a LOT of background. This was a nice, easy watch, the little girls was so cute, there were a couple of laughs (cúpla gáire) and the vocab was nice and simple
Gaiste https://youtu.be/Xr-V7vg_Y2Q?si=cMMNqPLkmtugbg8t
Very simple vocab, good message, kind of like a fable, big "One of us is Lying" vibes. Nice short film overall
Fíorghael https://youtu.be/t3Kv4fZ2SOE?si=bHibiFJyRUcvZ-TZ
This ones a bit older, but it's still a good bit of craic. You need to wait a couple of minutes to get into it, but the end is brilliant (Caithfidh tú cúpla nóiméad a fanacht chun dul isteach ar, ach tá an chríoch go hiontach)
Sylvia https://youtu.be/fi_4aweOP4w?si=ZCfUAfYaD73IVn8r
There are plot twists, and then there plot backflips, this was the later. This is so weird, but I really enjoyed it at the same time
Ciúnas https://youtu.be/cGfuQ-HeTmk?si=WRPGmo-UNQ0bw9mA
There's not much dialogue, but all of it is very casual, so you still get to pick up a few words that you wouldn't find in a textbook. The storyline is quite sweet, but please be careful watching because it although it centres around her family's love for her, it is set on the way home from the hospital after she tried to end her own life

Google is so powerful that it "hides" other search systems from us. We just don't know the existence of most of them.
Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information.
Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free.

Wondering if anyone would like a dedicated website (like a neocities/Carrd type deal) for my Internet Trinkets tag?
It’s mainly just internet tools, games, guides, resources, books and all kinds of links I’ve found to make the internet experience much more useful and fun, i.e, away from the nightmares of subscriptions, paywalls, hate and fear, as much as possible!
I’d want it to be like a little cornershop with the stuff you’d need, like milk and eggs and bread! Except in this context, it’s internet essentials and some stuff you didn’t think you needed, but do!
@good-morning-czernobog ‘s carrd as well as the likes of masterposts and websites like FrogLand have contributed to this idea, but I’d like some definite input from where this all started.
TLDR:
Want a website full of internet tools to make your life nicer?
Reblog are appreciated but no pressure ^^

[05/25/24] Ancient History Resources Dump
An attempt at documenting the resources I’ve discovered while educating myself on Ancient History during this entire Israel vs Palestine tragedy. I will put the title of the website with the link embed and a short summary of the content I found. If there is any misinformation, etc, I'm not like stanning these websites. I'm still learning. I just wanted to share some things I found.
The Oracc Project List - Website that lists various projects run by Professors/Researchers to present/offer online editions of discovered Ancient Documents, Objects, Pantheons, etc.
State Archives of Assyria Online - Provides editions of texts from the Neo-Assyrian period, organized by genre. Has links to other websites they are affiliated/working with for other Assyrian resources I’ll link below. Knowledge and Power
Ancient History Sourcebook - this entire website is filled with links to resources, some are dead but a lot are not. It also has links to Medieval Sourcebook, Modern History and Byzantine Studies Page. As well as Other History Sourcebooks like African, East Asian, Indian, Islamic, Jewish, etc. Just check it out. Notable pages: Hellenes & Phoenicians, c. 430 BCE
The Proceedings of the Friesian School, Fourth Series - Non-peer-reviewed electronic journal and archive of philosophy. Tbh, I just thought this website was cool. I haven’t looked at everything in it. So take it with a grain or two of salt. Notable pages: Index of Egyptian History, Languages with more than 30,000,000 Speakers as of 2005, classified by Civilization
Factsanddetails - just a place of links for facts and details. I’m linking directly to Mesopotamian History and Religion but you can find all kinds of links for other things.
HyperHistory - dope ass website of over 3,000 files covering 3,000 years of world history that is in a timeline. Very early 2000s.
The World Chronology Project (Then again…) - World History section of a chronology website.
Assyria Online - Website dedicated to Assyrian culture, people, etc.
Livius.org - Articles on Ancient History, currently at 4,381 pages. 10,700 original illustrations.
Phoenicia.org - Worlds largest compilation of Phoenician resources & studies. The owner has a lot of hot takes on Phoenicians and ancient history but there are alot of good resources and you can decide if you agree with his hot takes or not.
YouTube Videos/Channels

I have a friend who's currently building a Discord server that could act as a safe place for solarpunk, hopepunk enthusiasts and more generally people who'd like to do more for the planet and society.
They'd need Administrators (who'd help with event planning and the inner workings of the tech behind the server) and Moderators (to ensure that this place remains a safe space).
Anyone who's interested in this, just dm me your Discord username and I'll send it to them! :)

Upon the midnight's dark embrace, A wizard made his final peace. With whispered words and arcane might, He cast a spell to end the blight. For all would live in harmony, His sacrifice, a gift to see. The magic surged, echoing through, And darkness fled, forever new. In rich text, the tale is spun, Of sacrifice, of love begun.
