In a monumental discovery for paleontology and the first of its kind "Mummy of a juvenile sabre-toothed cat Homotherium latidens from the Upper Pleistocene of Siberia"

Abstract The frozen mummy of the large felid cub was found in the Upper Pleistocene permafrost on the Badyarikha River (Indigirka River basin) in the northeast of Yakutia, Russia. The study of the specimen appearance showed its significant differences from a modern lion cub of similar age (three weeks) in the unusual shape of the muzzle with a large mouth opening and small ears, the very massive neck region, the elongated forelimbs, and the dark coat color. Tomographic analysis of the mummy skull revealed the features characteristic of Machairodontinae and of the genus Homotherium. For the first time in the history of paleontology, the appearance of an extinct mammal that has no analogues in the modern fauna has been studied. Finished this mysterious creature recently!

Everything is handmade with faux materials and fully posable! The eyes and orb have LEDs installed and the eyes and hair glow in the dark too!

I don’t often share behind the scenes photos, but since this piece was made entirely on stream I had the unique opportunity to put together this full start to finish time-lapse of how it was made! As a bonus, you can enjoy the hyper speed bouncing of the pigeons in their corner of the screen.

Tiny Socks

Scrappy Tiny Socks

These are just something I like to knit.

After making a couple hundred tiny socks, literally, I needed something fresh to do with the idea. I decided I would knit the ugliest tiny sock I could. You know, in keeping with ugly Christmas sweaters and Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree. I tied together the most unlikely, mismatched pieces of leftover yarn I could, and knit a tiny sock.

Did I succeed? No! It was a complete failure, because as you can see they are so cute! (I think.) They’re absolutely one of a kind. It’s impossible to predict how they’ll turn out, except maybe to choose a mood of the yarn, so I have some that are more subdued or lighthearted, some that are VERY PINK, and some that are just gentle and calm. I’m obsessed with these things.

I tie together short lengths of yarn as little as two inches long using magic knots, and I leave those ears or tails so that it’s easier to work them to the inside and keep them in place. I wind them up, and off I go. These are the ultimate use of those last little bits of leftover yarn. (I hate to waste yarn). They’re great fun, and I love to make them.
