Is the new Indiana Jones movie good? Kind of a boring question tbh
Do I appreciate that Indy mentions continental drift given that it would've been a groundbreaking scientific breakthrough in 1969 (given that it was posited as a theory in 1967), subtly noting that he has been keeping up with the science of history and how geology is beginning to impact our understanding of the continents? Yes, yes I do
Do I REALLY appreciate how many Nazis get punched? Oh most certainly yes

Friday, June 30.
Indiana Jones.
For Dr. Jones, every day is a good day for thumpin' Nazis. But some days it just hits particularly sweet. And would you look at that—it's only Friday, June 30, 2023, which can only mean one thing: it's the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny! Yay!
*cracks knuckles, whip*
Well, it's not just thumping Nazis that's on the cards, but nostalgia. Coming 15 years after the, well, best-forgotten fourth installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the latest film in the #indiana jones canon will in fact be the last. Or the curtain call for Harrison Ford as the iconic character, at very least. His daytime lecturer and night-time archaeologist Dr. Henry Walton "Indiana" Jones, Jr. is reluctantly thrust back into the action after seeking refuge in the quiet life of academia. After, *takes deep breath* Nazis and the Ark of the Covenant, The Thuggee Cult and the holy Sankara Stones, the Holy Grail and the Nazis (again), the Soviet Union and the Crystal Skull (*shudders*), Indiana is set to take up the fedora against the Nazis once more in search of the mysterious dial of destiny. This fifth film is in 1969 and finds an elderly Indy contending with the knowledge that the US space program has former Nazis in its ranks. Well, better get thumpin', friend!
That's it, folks. Happy weekend. Enjoy #indiana jones, the occasional thumpin', and enjoy the good things while they're there x
Ba-ba-ba-baaa, ba ba baaaaaa...

Dial of Destiny thoughts (⚠️Spoilers⚠️)
Shirtless Old Man Indy is good and glorious. More realistic depictions of the human body, pls.
Indy x Marion endgame is also good and glorious. Old people deserve romance too.
Helena making Indy come back to his time period beautifully parallels her actions of contacting Marion and Sallah to come take care of him. She refuses to let him live in the past, literally and figuratively.
SPEAKING OF TAKING CARE OF INDY, the Found Family trope in this movie is OFF THE CHARTS and is WONDERFUL.
Almost cried when we found out Mutt died in service. I'm very glad they didn't just say "oh he's busy/doesn't want to talk to me" to explain why he's not in the movie.
The boat captain Renaldo is gay in my heart. Ain't no straight reason why that first mate was looking at him Like That.
Indy being upset over the death of Renaldo is an important way to remind us that he's lost a lot of people over the years, and even adventuring doesn't distract from the pain.
"They look like snakes." "No They Don't."
This might be me reading into things too much, but in one of the Young Indy episodes ("Travels With Father") Jones Sr and Indy are in Greece, and Sr speaks to a local in Ancient Greek, as one does if one is a classics professor. Indy says "I don't think he understood you" and Jones Sr says "well he should have". In DoD, Indy gets to speak Ancient Greek to Archimedes. IN MY HEART it is a reference to Travels With Father.
The elbow kiss scene with their theme playing in the background 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
