Tiny Socks
Scrappy Tiny Socks
These are just something I like to knit.
After making a couple hundred tiny socks, literally, I needed something fresh to do with the idea. I decided I would knit the ugliest tiny sock I could. You know, in keeping with ugly Christmas sweaters and Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree. I tied together the most unlikely, mismatched pieces of leftover yarn I could, and knit a tiny sock.
Did I succeed? No! It was a complete failure, because as you can see they are so cute! (I think.) They’re absolutely one of a kind. It’s impossible to predict how they’ll turn out, except maybe to choose a mood of the yarn, so I have some that are more subdued or lighthearted, some that are VERY PINK, and some that are just gentle and calm. I’m obsessed with these things.
I tie together short lengths of yarn as little as two inches long using magic knots, and I leave those ears or tails so that it’s easier to work them to the inside and keep them in place. I wind them up, and off I go. These are the ultimate use of those last little bits of leftover yarn. (I hate to waste yarn). They’re great fun, and I love to make them.

Scrappy Tiny Socks
I took the day off from pattern writing, but I’m never not knitting so I made a tiny scrappy sock. Here also is the inside with all the knots that you never see.

Tiny Socks
Hello. I’ve been knitting tiny socks for years. They just tickle my fancy. I have them strung across windows of my home, and I’ve given them as keepsakes to a lot of people.
Although I’ve seen some nice stockinette versions online and even some really cool colorwork, I’ve never seen any knit in pattern stitches. Until now.
These are my tiny Sock Ornaments 1-6. Over the years I’ve been asked whether they’re large enough for babies or pets. As you can see, they’re really more like a glove finger.
I’ve adapted six different pattern stitches to the size and proportions of my tiny socks. These aren’t just ornaments, though. They don’t just resemble a sock; they are actual top down, heel flap, and gusset socks.
They’re a good use for leftover yarn. They take relatively little time to knit, so they’re also a good choice between larger projects until you decide what’s next.

Tiny Socks
Most sock ornaments I see are knit in stockinette, so I’ve been adapting pattern stitches to my own tiny sock design. This is the tenth of maybe a baker’s dozen. Pondering whether to publish the patterns individually or collectively. 🤔

Sock Ornaments 1-6 is now on Ravelry. 🥳 (Link below) They’re a nice change of pace between/during big knitting projects. Before long you’ll have a set of unique ornaments for decoration or gifting. ☺️ In the background of this photo you can see I have tiny socks strung across my windows. 😆

Giving everything the once over before I publish my Sock Ornaments 1-6 pattern on Ravelry tomorrow. Of course I also had to take finger puppet photos. The ornaments are roughly glove finger size.

Tiny Socks
Long ago I knit miniature socks as keepsakes to accompany adult gift socks. They were actual top-down heel flap and gusset socks. 😋 I’ve since knit hundreds of ‘em as ornaments, including 12 new designs. Each is 4.5 in / 11.5 cm long. I’m writing the patterns now to publish in 2 sets of 6 ornaments.

Tiny Socks
Samples of the first group of sock ornament patterns I’m publishing. They’re one of my favorite leftover yarn projects, and they just make me smile.

Tiny Socks
This pattern stitch works so nicely on my tiny sock ornament (and looks smashing in pink) but a stitch that fits doesn’t necessarily look right. Art, people, art. Also skill.

Trust me, this tiny sock sparkles. I have a small amount of novelty yarn that plies a furry strand with other shiny, glittery strands. I can’t imagine what the original knitter did with it (and I don’t want to) but upon stripping out the furry bit, spiraling what’s left produced this enchanting ornament. . #TinySocks #TinySockOrnaments #KnittedOrnaments #HandmadeOrnaments #KnittersOfInstagram #MenWhoKnit #GuysWhoKnit #GayKnitter #RealMenKnit #BeardedKnitter #PNWknitters #WAknitters #SJIknitters #KnittingIsMagic (at San Juan Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CF3XZaGJkd-/?igshid=39zlxgkyug0

A monochromatic tiny sock for a colorful yet monochromatic day. If I have the colors, I’d like to knit a pride set of six tiny socks in this style. . #TinySocks #TinySockOrnaments #KnittedOrnaments #HandmadeOrnaments #KnittersOfInstagram #MenWhoKnit #GuysWhoKnit #GayKnitter #RealMenKnit #BeardedKnitter #PNWknitters #WAknitters #SJIknitters #KnittingIsMagic (at San Juan Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFyI7F9JKn-/?igshid=fg2tslyfx283

My new shawl design isn’t far enough along to show much progress, so here’s another tiny sock. I vary patterns on them from time to time, part of what makes no two the same no matter how many I knit. . #TinySocks #TinySockOrnaments #KnittedOrnaments #HandmadeOrnaments #KnittersOfInstagram #MenWhoKnit #GuysWhoKnit #GayKnitter #RealMenKnit #BeardedKnitter #PNWknitters #WAknitters #SJIknitters #KnittingIsMagic (at San Juan Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFtHK7bpLwc/?igshid=9uyyqi12rs87

If you haven’t read about my tiny sock ornaments, here are the highlights. About 4-3/4 inches long, they’re actual top-down heel flap and gusset socks – all of the construction features of my adult human socks. This one is a simple stranded pattern of short lengths knitted together. I’ve knit around 300 tiny socks, and no two are the same. . #TinySocks #TinySockOrnaments #KnittedOrnaments #HandmadeOrnaments #KnittersOfInstagram #MenWhoKnit #GuysWhoKnit #GayKnitter #RealMenKnit #BeardedKnitter #PNWknitters #WAknitters #SJIknitters #KnittingIsMagic (at San Juan Island) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFa9oTVpzVx/?igshid=1km1iu2xhl5w6
