7x05 promo meta

Thank you 911 for dropping those stills - its save you all from my terrible quality screen shots!

This was supposed to be a costume meta, and it is, but things rather got away from me so its got a bit of a mishmash of spec and the like in it! its probably incoherent but my brain is whirring!

Ok first things first - Firehouse!

Soooo whenever we've had firehouse scenes before between Buck and Eddie, the one not in uniform is the one receiving advice - Buck after he found out about Daniel, Eddie during the Black out etc. So I expect this scene to play to a similar theme.

The green jacket for Buck is an interesting one for me, green is all about growth - especially this shade of green. I think this scene will be the first time Buck and Eddie see one another in person - Buck perhaps re-apologising to Eddie, clearing the air, Eddie offering buck some advice (i don't know exactly what advice, but perhaps along the lines of not bottling things up and talking to him etc!).

The fact its a broadcloth jacket harks back to his shirt jacket from Eddies breakdown - that one was very red, so there's no direct connection to the meaning of that jacket from a colour theory perspective, but there is a wider theme connecting to the broadcloth - broadcloth is a fabric that was historically used for military uniforms (it still is) so the use of broadcloth has this element of going to war - unlike the red jacket that signalled danger and Buck going to 'war' to both get to Eddie and to then help him in the aftermath, this one is more likely to be a war related to Bucks 'bad behaviour' from the basketball game and I think and with the green of the jacket meaning growth, I expect this scene to show them on a more even footing - one where the one doesn't need to go to war for the other, because the 'war' is over, this is the aftermath now and Buck has grown (in the same way that Eddie was in green during and after his breakdown - he grew from that moment)

Date night - for Buck and Tommy

Firstly I want to mention the fact that Check theory is in overdrive for this scene - the check is literally everywhere - floor, tablecloths, walls, windows, the guy sat to the side of Tommy. Something is clearly going to happen that is going to lead to some sort of chaos. My money is on Check shirt guy suddenly becoming ill and interupting both dates (call back to Buck choking on bread would be chefs kiss imo as that was Bucks first proper date!!).

I originally thought his was the same shirt Buck wore when he was trying to donate sperm - however, turns out it isn't it isn't, this is a knit bowling shirt while the one from the sperm donation storyline was a knit polo (no buttons all the way down the front). I do think the remarkable similarity between the two shirts is relevant though. because Buck trying to donate sperm, was Buck trying to start a new life, but it was a false start when he was wearing the similar shirt (because the power was out at the clinic) and he is essentially doing the same thing here - he's on his first 'date with a dude' and is starting a new life as a bisexual man - only it seems he's probably going to try and hide it from Eddie - thus a false start in the same way his first attempt to donate sperm was. thing is, Buck was successful in making his donation in the end, so even if he has a couple of false start in this episode, he'll be successful in the end (see the end of this meta for the reason why!!)

Tommy is in brown (possibly a dark olive green, but it looks more brown to me at this moment in time!). Brown is of course one of Eddies staple colours, so we are continuing with the Tommy Being costumes as a version of Eddie!

But Brown is a colour of stability and strength - its solid ground. It's showing us that Tommy is completely comfortable in his sexuality (whatever denomination of queer he is as we don't know at this point!). Its also a colour of safety support and protection (its why many police and military uniforms around the world are brown - meant to invest a sense of protection - a reflection of what that job is supposed to be!). for me thats playing on the idea that Tommy is going to protect and support Buck on this date - Buck not wanting to come out to Eddie in that moment and Tommy supporting that and protecting Bucks right to chose when and how he gets to come out to the people in his life (and I adore him for that!) is my guess on why he's wearing brown here.

Eddie and Marisol's date night

(as an aside - Bucks face in the still below is hilarious!!)

I already mentioned the pink handbag in my 7x04 meta, but now we also have a pink skirt to add into the mix and its a ditsy print of two shades of pink, which not only further supports my pink and innocence theory about this season, but it also plays into how both Shannon and Ana were costumes as well - in lots of pink and in ditzy prints!!! Marisol (who doesn't even have a last name) is not long for the world of 911 - if it doesn't end in this episode, its gonna be over very very soon! She is going to essentially be an innocent bystander in whatever the hell is going to go down at this date night fun house we're about to see, whether her seemingly naive personality (well what little personality she seems to have!) plays into things as well, we'll have to wait and see!

The other aspect of this outfit that is making me laugh is the fact that the skirt is giving me 1980's/early 1990's teen vibes (not to out myself as old but trust me I had some just like this back then and I wouldn't be caught dead in it now as a grown woman!!) and the baby pink handbag looks like something an 8 year old would have to play dress up with - its all very childish and immature - naive one could say, and its suggesting to me that we're going to see some pretty childish behaviour from her at some point in this episode (we'll have to wait and see if I'm right!). The other aspect oof this childish style we're seeing on her plays into Eddies narrative of looking for magic and trying to recreate what he had with Shannon. Its for me one of the reasons why i think we have s2 Eddies hair back, especially this greased back version in this scene - its a nod to his s2 arc when he tried to recreate the magic with Shannon. Eddies journey is about learning that he cannot recapture or recreate that magic he had when he was young - that the love of youth - in all its innocence is not something that is sustainable or actually what he wants in the present. for me, him figuring this out is an important part of his wider un-repression arc and will allow him to move forward and learn that he needs to build a relationship on a stronger foundation that magic and innocence. That (ghost of a) second chance with Shannon ended up as a literal car crash (sorry to be blunt but it was a metaphor back then too!) so my feeling is that this is going to go the same way - and end in a figurative (at least) car crash.

As for the chain necklace! you can read my 6x15 metas for a fuller run down this one is the most comprehensive one (and theres some stuff lurking on other meta posts as well) but essentially every single one of Buck or Eddies girlfriends have worn a chain necklace (there is also a bracelet too, which I think Marisol wore in 7x01 but her scene was so blink and you'll miss it that I can't get a good still to be sure!) of this style - I never did get to writing the full meta on the chain necklaces I intended - the season 6 finale rather deflated my enthusiasm to do so, but I can talk about it here so, things worked out I guess!

Chains are a representation of incarceration, or of holding something back. they are a huge symbol of slavery and are used in derogatory terms when used to talk about relationships (the old ball and chain etc). This is why we see them on all the women connected to either Buck or Eddie, and never on any of the other female characters in the show - these women are essentially holding Buck and Eddie back, they are chains to be broken free of.

Then we have Eddie in his white shirt! There are a couple of reasons I am completely in love with this choice! firstly is the most obvious, it paints things very black and white for Eddie and Marisol - they are opposites! In this context, the wardrobe department are deliberately creating that opposition between them - and in combo with that pink bag and skirt - things aren't going to end well for them.

Black is a colour that sucks light and colour from things (yes there is the concept of the little black dress etc for dating but thats more about timeless elegance and Marisol is not wearing a black dress!) that absorbs everything around it - you can see in the picture below how the black of her top is absorbing the colour while Eddies white shirt is bouncing it around and glowing with the red - its especially obvious on her sleeve which is partially sheer and partially matt - the sheer parts are picking up the light, making the black non sheer parts still look black.

The other reasons I am living for the Eddie in a white shirt of it all is the fact that it really highlights that red lighting - this use of red - in this setting at that moment - when it doesn't appear to be anywhere else in the scene and certainly not around Buck and Tommy - can only mean danger and anger. Its telling us that Eddie is not happy - jealous definitely (that look is one of jealousy!) its also hinting at underlying anger though. My thoughts on this is that its playing into Eddie having to face up to his feelings for Buck - that he understands them, and perhaps feels like he missed his shot

The other reason I'm obsessed with the choice to put Eddie in a white shirt is this ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Because yes that is Eddie in white and Buck in dark blue, and yes that is the only other time we've seen Eddie in white in the entire show (excepting white shorts in fight club and even they fit the theme we're seeing here). Seeing them in the same colour ways here is very much giving Buck and Eddie divorce era 3.0 (fight club/lawsuit was 1.0 and the one above was 2.0) vibes.

Having dinner with Buck (or in the same space as Buck) and his current partner and the blue and white (and green that Tommy is wearing which matches the green that Taylor was wearing) is definitely a choice. This scene in season 5 was essentially a Buck and Eddie break up - 'move on Buck, I have' - we all know how that spiral ended - with Eddie digging in with his leaving the 118 and excluding himself from the firefam and Buck cheating on Taylor and asking her to move in with him.

thing is Eddie has form for doing dumb things when he feels under stress or pressure (asking Shannon to marry him again, fight club after her death and Buck suing the firehouse, leaving the 118 and not getting the help he needed until he had a major breakdown to name 3!)- so if we saw some kind of parallel to this scene - (this is especially in light of Eddie talking to Bobby about the job in this episode) where Eddie doubles down on a poor decision (don't know what but I'm currently speculating that its maybe asking Marisol to move in with him way way too soon - when he doesn't know her - hello episode title) in the same way Buck did with Taylor (because he is faced with the fact he could've had a chance with Buck after-all and is emotionally cheating on Marisol) and it plays into

I'm not saying we're going to be getting rid of Marisol in 7x05 (unfortunately) but I am saying the writing is on the wall for that relationship - there are too many costuming signs on both Eddie and Marisol for it not to be headed in the direction of ending. My guess from what I'm seeing with these costumes and that lighting, is that 'Ghost of a second chance' is when it will come to a head - it plays into the theming of Shannon redux and car crashes, learning from past mistakes before you repeat them.

And finally we're at Bucks loft!

Not saying this is at the end of the episode - I have zero idea where its going to land - every time I see a new still from it I'm more confused and decide its going to be at a different point of the episode!

Anyway, thats not important! Eddie is in his Buck 'date night' shirt - the one he wears when he has serious talks with Buck in the loft. thing that is different this time, is the fact he's in jeans rather than the green trousers he's worn on every other occasion. Something about that is making me feel like, while this scene is likely to be similar in that its going to be a serious talk, and I'm sure from the way it looks in the stills we're going to see Eddie reassuring Buck as we have in previous scenes, I think we might find this one is going to give us Buck and Eddie on a more even footing that we've seen before.

I'm fascinated that the Christopher watch is not visible in the above still, but it's very visible in the below one, and in the other stills we've got. We don't often see it hidden under eddies sleeves - we usually see it more like we can see it in the date night stills - visible with the shirt slightly tucked underneath. haven't figured out if its going to be significant or not yet - I need to see the scene!

We do have to talk about the looks they are giving each other here though - especially Buck!!! because I mean!!!! its kind of giving me don't keep things from me again vibes!!

I am very much loving that they put Buck in this jumper though! it is the one from the sperm donor storyline - when Buck tells Eddie, Hen and Chim he is 'responsible for creating new life.' I love this specific parallel because there is the play on the fact that Buck is now living a new life - that he's figured something out about himself - that he's creatinga new life forhimself - one where he is bisexual, and openly so (as we know he's going to tell people in this episode and hell he might be telling Eddie in this scene!). the other thing is that this light blue colour, throughout season 6 became a real representation of Buck journey of self discovery - all the way back to Lev at the happiness convention and his year of yes, right through to post Lightning strike Buck who was trying to wrestle with his death and his rebirth - the light blue here really ties all of this together beautifully

Right thats All at this point - I'm sure my brain will conjure up other things once i've hit post, but for right now - I'm off to bed!!

bf!jiwoong who will always take photos of you and take selfies with you on his iphone with a blurry ass front cam :((. whether you’re on a date, just at home, running errands, on a walk— hes going to snap a pic. when you’re sitting beside each other sometimes he just lays his head on your shoulder or kisses your cheek and takes a selfie. just.. bf!jiwoong who is the complete embodiment of “take a pic, it’ll last longer.”

bf!zhang hao who is your other half of the olive theory. if ever there is an ingredient or food that you don’t like on your plate, all you need to do is ask hao because he’s probably going to accept. OR bf!hao who orders your usual order when you try something new, just incase you end up not liking the taste of your own order. for example: you want to try a new kind of coffee. hao always asks you if you’re sure before you try something new. when you confirm, he orders the usual style of coffee that you order. if you end up liking it… hao is happy that you like it and he doesn’t mind drinking your usual. but if it’s the opposite, he offers you his order— your usual, and takes the new drink off your hands and drinks that instead. AURGSHD i hope you guys get what i mean!!

bf!hanbin who has boyfie senses. he just knows everything about you, that’s how observant he is. he makes sure to observe a lot of the things you do, like, dislike, etc. he knows what type of hair tie you like, what glasses frame you prefer, how you fidget when you’re feeling anxious or nervous, everything. sometimes when you’re not feeling well and haven’t told hanbin yet, you’ll get a message from him asking how you are or if you’re feeling okay. it stuns you every single time he does it. it’s like he has connections to the system of your brain.

bf!matthew who is always down to try everything with you. i feel like matthew is very adventurous. if you want to try camping, he’ll do it with you and explain everything you need. if you want to try some new food, he’ll help you look for the place to try it. he’s always the one who takes and does your firsts with you. he supports your curiosity (most of the time) because he believes that it’s always good to try something new. basically just bf!matt who is your partner in everything.

bf!taerae who loves to sing for you, and would probably sing for you everyday if you’d just ask. taerae has such a beautiful singing voice, his voice is like pouring rays of sunshine, clouds, and rainbows into your ears. if you are having a hard time sleeping, all you need to do is lay against his chest and ask him to sing for you. the combination of his voice and his heartbeat is the perfect lullaby for you. when you’re on a road trip, a carpool session is essential! pro tip: do not challenge taerae with a karaoke battle, you WILL lose :P.

bf!ricky who WILL pay for everything. he does not let you take out your wallet, it’s always his treat. whether you’re on a restaurant date, shopping date, anything! he. will. pay! the only time ricky lets it slide is when you do errands together, but even then he still offers to pay. always expect “just because” gifts from ricky as well. because i do believe that he has a good eye, meaning that he knows what you like. so if he sees a piece that he thinks you’d look good in, he will 100% get it for you.

bf!gyuvin who loves couple trends!!!! i believe yes yes! matching outfits, tiktok dances, matching pfps, couple poses, everything!!! imagine going to the amusement park with gyuvin. you’ll have matching outfits on, you’ll do tiktok dances (ex: dsico by surf curse), take pics at the photobooth if they have it, take couple pics. every single person around you gets a slap in the face abt how single they are when they see you two. (i have another post abt gyuvin, also hcs/thoughts: thoughts abt bf!gyuvin)

bf!gunwook who props you up on the bathroom counter and stands in between your legs to do your skincare… when you’re feeling tired but you need to do your skincare, he’ll literally just do it for you. gunwook is strong enough to pick you up, put you on the counter, and then start doing your skincare. he doesn’t even need to ask you what goes first, next, and last. he has your skincare routine memorized!!!! all you need to do is just sit there and try to not fall asleep on the spot as he does his thing. you can trust that he knows your usual routine, your routine when you breakout, etc. skincare is something you and gunwook bond over as a couple. he loves taking care of you as much as he loves doing it for himself.

bf’s little bro!yujin who 100% loves u more than his brother 😎. when his brother takes you home he probably doesn’t approach you first, so you had to reach out. when he does get to know you, he thinks you’re pretty cool. he asks your boyfriend often if he’s taking you with him when they go out, since sometimes you do join in for some of their family outings. expect to be the in the middle of their bickering sometimes, siblings will be siblings. i think you’ll get to a point where yujin trusts you enough to sometimes talk to you about things he feels he can’t really discuss with his brother. he trusts that you won’t tattle on him, please don’t break it.

Q. Have you seen the Tik Tok Ryan watched about how if Eddie isn't gay then they've just made him the biggest jerk possible when it comes to dating? 😂 I mean she wasn't wrong. Having hope makes me nervous!

A. Haha, yes, I saw the Tik Tok and it does make him look particularly bad in the context of dating. But it just continues to prove what a very hard corner they've written themselves into where Eddie is concerned. He is not a bad guy. He's not. He's a good man with a very deep sense of duty, responsibility, obligation and expectation. And in that context the women he has chosen to date, post Shannon, make sense. His relationship with Anna was always the obvious head scratcher because on paper she was absolutely the perfect person for him, but the relationship always felt off. Once we got the spoiler from the insider saying she was supposed to be the relationship that led to Eddie's sexuality discovery it made the Anna relationship make much more sense. I know there are some who don't want to believe the insider information, but given Tim's history I think he would have repudiated the claim if it had been false. We have already seen Tim correct false information this off season, so I see no reason why he wouldn't have corrected that one as well if it were untrue. It was everywhere. He knows it was leaked information. Everything Eddie experienced in that relationship further seems to support the idea that the original plan was a sexuality awakening. The panic attacks he was having fit perfectly into this theory as well because Eddie is not a commitment phobe. They never felt like a couple. She felt like Christopher's babysitter. They even had Eddie flat out admit that Christopher loved her so he thought he could force himself to love her too. It's the classic sexuality arc relationship.

Marisol is another mess entirely. You could tell she wasn't meant to be back last season, and they didn't even bother trying to pretend otherwise. I think the Kim nonsense was Tim's way of maybe trying to demonstrate that Eddie just doesn't feel like he can find a connection with anyone else, romantically speaking, and he was reaching out so hard for doppelganger Shannon because he thought she could tell him why. There is absolutely no other plausible reason for that storyline. Eddie specifically told Buck that it wasn't about sex and he didn't want to sleep with her. He wanted to talk to her, and once he was able to, what he talked about was how broken he feels. That is where we are with Eddie. That very much feels like trying to recreate where he was mentally in season 4 without retelling the same storyline. So it feels very much like they're headed in the sexuality direction. I understand people are hesitant to allow themselves to be excited about the possibility. And they are correct when they say we have no proof that's where they're going. But what I will say is that it's okay to say that things feel genuinely different this time around. It feels very different than it ever has before. And we're allowed to acknowledge that. Oliver and Ryan are behaving in ways they never have before. And we're allowed to also acknowledge that. Ryan has very much followed Oliver's pattern from last off season. He has followed the same interview patterns, right down to switching to gender neutral pronouns. And he is following the same fandom behavior from Oliver last season. He is being very openly pro Buddie. Acknowledging the corner the show has written themselves into, and acknowledging the patterns that Oliver and Ryan are following and repeating is not giving false hope or unfairly raising expectations. It's acknowledging the clear change. That's all anyone is doing. If it makes certain people feel better to be adamant that it's not happening, fine. That's their fandom right. But it's other people's fandom right to be excited about and to acknowledge the possibility of the storyline. A storyline that feels very much within reach. Let people be excited.

Hey Nonny! I'm firmly saying YES to be honest. I know that Ali also isn't posting about certain subjects and topics anymore. So please, don't be afraid to drop something in my inbox. As long as it's not about fandom messes, it's fine. Thanks again for doing this. I do appreciate it.

If we all focus a bit more on fandom positivity, we can hopefully counter some of the negativity.

As for Ali's answer? Yes, yes and yes. The playing field has been set and all the pawns are exactly where they should be to get Eddie out of that closet and into Buck's arms (after some extra loopholes, no doubt).

I agree so hard on the fact that it's okay to be excited and hopeful. Let yourself hope. Why not? What have we got to lose at this stage? Besides our sanity that is. 😉

And yes, the people out there who are being cautious about Buddie? They have ever right to be. I mean, nothing is set in stone at this point. So, it's more than fine to want to hold back on the excitement for a while.

We can all coexist just fine, if we respect each others opinions and POVs, because after all:

We all have the same end-goal in mind. 😋

clovis is arguably the best boyfriend ever.

☆ not only does he give the most amazing hugs and cuddles but the man can cook up a storm. so expect homemade meals and desserts when your feeling down

☆ hes such an attentive boyfriend, he always knows when your having a bad day and knows just what you need to feel better

☆ he's one of the only people in camp who can get away with having you stay overnight. so expect sleepovers

☆ speaking of, he 100% joins you in your dreams and even though when you wake up you can't always remember them, he holds those moments close

☆ you were with him through the entire war, when he was unclaimed in cabin 11 to when he was finally claimed and had zero control over his powers

☆ with determination and your support clovis was able to keep his powers under control. every now and then he still needs a break and is found asleep in random corners of camp

☆ you definitely became his personal pillow when he was unable to control his powers and now he still lies down on you when he's tired almost as a inside joke

☆ now that he's got control the two of you definitely train together and he's an amazing swordsman especially when he figured out how to put his opponents to sleep

☆ whatever hobbies you have he will sit and listen to your rambles, he will ask questions and buy things that remind him of said hobby for you

☆ he makes sure you don't have nightmare but he can't stop most demigod dreams (seeing as most of them are in link with a prophecy/quest) but he's aware of them and goes straight to your cabin when he senses something's wrong.

☆ hes the type of boyfriend to buy two drinks and whichever one you dislike more he'll happily have.

☆ OLIVE THEORY BOYFRIEND RIGHT HERE

☆ yk those guys getting married who smoosh the cake in the brides face even though they know the bride doesn't want them too but they do it anyway? yeah clovis would rather die even think of being like that

☆ he also definitely hasn't fully planned out your wedding, and totally hasn't see it play out in one of his dreams

☆ he's the type of guy who would wait all year for the release of a movie then wait for the dvd to come out just because he knows you don't like the same movies as him and he's not going to force you to sit through a movie you won't like. and going to the movies without you? without. you. ??? no.

☆ he has the best pajamas and without a doubt lets you borrow them

☆ he would also love the matching pajamas/onesies. he might beg you to wear them with him

☆ speaking of begging, that man has the cruelest puppy eyes ever. one bat of his big brown eyes and your crumbling (your pretty sure it's even worked on chiron)

☆ he's the best guy to bring home as well, he is the perfect gentleman and he's so charismatic. whoever's at home with you will instantly accept and love him

☆ and please don't even get me started on how pretty he is

☆ because ugh he's gorgeous

☆ his wild and curly brown hair with his doe brown eyes. he has the cutest dimples and when he gets super tired he gets the slightest lisp

☆ he owns a pair of light blue bunny slippers he wears unironically and it's the cutest thing ever

I keep seeing posts about how us Buddie fans are just being delusional. How we need to stop reading so much into what’s being said during interviews and oh also how it’s offensive to the current ship.

First of all let’s be clear here Buck is NOT in a relationship with Tommy. I feel like this is something you Buck/Tommy shippers are failing to grasp because I constantly see posts about how Buck shouldn’t cheat on Tommy. They have kissed once and been on 2ish dates they are not a couple yet. Being exclusive requires a conversation or at least some acknowledgment by the characters and we haven’t had that yet. They still barely know each other.

Second we have always theorized about Buddie when the characters were with other love interests. We did when Buck was with Taylor. We did when Eddie was with Ana. Is it somehow different now because Tommy is a guy? Is it different now because Buck and Tommy aren't straight? Or is it just because Buck is dating the guy you want him to be with now? I don't know there's just something very strange about how some of you are responding to Buddie/Buddie shippers with all of this.

What's even crazier to me is that so many of you who are all about Buck/Tommy now used to be Buddie shippers or still say you'll be happy if Buddie happens down the line. Yet you're still attacking Buddie and our meta and speculation because it threatens the current ship you want at the moment.

No one is saying that every one of our theories and speculation is 100% correct but we have always speculated on the show and the interviews this isn't something new people are doing. I feel like the response some you have is that we're somehow seeing/hearing only what we want to and or twisting the words of the actors/etc to fit some kind narrative we have about Buddie.

It's not like we're seeing interviews where Oliver, Lou, Tim, etc are saying Buck and Tommy are going to be together 4eva and then immediately twisting that to mean oh they must be lying Buddie is so obviously happening tomorrow. We're inferring what we think might happen based on spoilers and what the actors (and Tim) have said combined with what we hope might happen. We know not everything we think will happen will. We had a ton of theories on 7x04 and 7x05 (many of which turned out to not be true) and despite what some of you think we didn't all collectively lose our shit because they didn't come true.

You can dislike Buddie and us all you want and can disagree with us or our theories all you want but these posts talking about how we're just seeing what we want and setting ourselves up for disappointment come across as hypocritical (considering most of you used to be Buddie shippers) and patronizing. We don't need or want you to save us from our fandom experience. If we're disappointed by the storyline that's our business but right now we're having fun with where things in the show are and are going.

I also really don't like how some of you are trashing Buddie to prop up Buck/Tommy. Basically saying that because Buck and Eddie's feelings haven't been verbally confirmed on screen (like in an I'm in love with you kind of way) that we're making it into something it's not and it's not fair to Buck/Tommy because they are canon.

Buddie isn't in a romantic relationship at the moment but they have loved and supported one another and always been been more than friends since basically the beginning. Even Oliver just confirmed that Buck was attracted to Eddie from the first scene. And no attraction alone doesn't equal love but if you can look at the six seasons of history shared by these two characters and only see two bros being the bestest friends you really need to take some media literacy.

I feel like some of you don't understand that not every part of a fictional story is spelled out super literally nor should it be. We know how deep Buck and Eddie's love goes because we can infer that based on their scenes. On all the ways they are there for one another, on how they treat each other, on how their relationship differs from the other friendships on the show. On all the things they say and don't say to one another. A big reason we want to see them in a canon romantic relationship is because of how clear the show has already made it that these two men love each other.

As for Tommy even though I'm not a multishipper I get Tommy's significance in the storyline. I'm also more thankful than I can put into words that Oliver and the show have decided to do Buck's bi awakening storyline epecially considering I'm bi myself. Buck being bi and his journey is incredibly important all on it's own but Buddie being canon is equally as important not because we need to see these guys together but because of what they represent. We have never had a slow burn same sex love story like this and the way it would change media forever if Buddie were to be canon cannot be understated.

So full disclosure, I actually listened to episode 7 on Saturday, but this episode had so damn much to it and I got a bit side tracked by a theory that I'm still working on but I really want to get this out before episode 8 comes out.

Email, though, so still internet related, and this seems to be an open letter rather than personal correspondence, so it still might align with the theme.

"It's not like we're dealing with Tape Recorders..." I'm side eying you real hard, Celia. And what's with all of the questions? The "looking for patterns" question is 100% fair but those examples are AWEFULLY SPECIFIC. I wasn't entirely sure I bought the idea that Celia was the same Celia from TMA, but no this is totally her for sure. "DO YOU KNOW WHO JOHN" IS EXCUSE ME? WHAT REAL STUFF?

HILLTOP CENTER BRANCH?!!! 0 managerial or other support from HR; very reminiscent of the weird circumstances surrounding the house on Hilltop Road. Bear skin rug very reminiscent of the Gorilla Skin in TMA S3. The Volunteers remind me of the medical students from Mag34. The email is about events from 2015. This was the same year Gertrude died and John became the Head Archivist in TMA. Why am I not seeing anyone else talk about this?

I have a theory that I was originally going to put in this post but detangling that giant ball of red string entirely is taking too long so I'm just going to put the TL'DR here and maybe make a proper list later if I can ever finish pulling the string on that particular red sweater. Between the items the Volunteers bring in, and the events of the incident itself, what if every single Entity is represented? The gunshots that were heard were the Slaughter. The fire was the Desolation. The person who wrote the email being crushed by all of the items was the Buried. There are a number of artifacts that get listed off that could represent at least one if not multiple Entities (which might be their purpose; considering how many times the fact that the categorization was imperfect got brought up in TMA, it's probably more helpful to view them as a spectrum more than anything else), including some that are very reminiscent of things from specific TMA statements (The bear skin rug -> The Gorilla skin, Old medical equipment -> the syringe in mag 45? The telescope -> Maxwell Rayner was originally Edmond Halley, the Astronomer, etc. etc). So...okay, hear me out: what if this was all part of a ritual, and that's what the "good cause" was? A ritual that involved all of the fears being represented? Sound familiar? Except instead of it being a ritual to start an apocalypse or reshape the world in the image of one or more of the fears, what if it was a ritual to summon something that was associated with all of the fears? Or, rather, what if it was a ritual to summon someone who had been touched by all of the fears? And that's also why so many of the items seem to be analogous to things from statements and events from TMA? Like....maybe I'm wrong entirely. Or maybe I'm right about this being about summoning someone, or something, (maybe someone from TMA? Maybe Celia?), but wrong about it being John who was being summoned. But, again, this incident took place in 2015, which was the same year Gertrude died and John became head Archivist, and I feel like this means something.

Yk, something about my Eddie fell first essay, I never really went like "oh this is something that could be proven right by canon" mostly because when I wrote that I was still dealing with buddie being a distant possibility not something that's so close I can taste, but then Ryan was let out of interview jail. Then I went full conspiracy theorist. (Please note everything from here on out is a conspiracy theory that will most likely never be confirmed or denied so I'll live in it forever) I had made the post about how I think Ryan is playing Eddie as in love with Buck, the question was whether he was being told to do that or he was just playing it up as much as they allowed him to because we know Ryan supports the ship, and then Ryan said the "this goes beyond friendship and I love you to the core" thing.

He said he talked to someone about what it meant for Eddie to do that, because he didn't understand it at first, and then that's the conclusion he reached. But the thing is, that line "I love you to the core" specifically means so much in the context of the season, to say I love you to Buck like that in season 4 is so MONUMENTAL, that I wanna believe one of the writers straight up told him "yo this is a love confession" and explained it to him like that, and he has been playing Eddie with that line in mind ever since, and that's why he had that locked and loaded for the interview. Because, like, I, in my most normal day, am out here arguing they casted Ryan with a plan, even more considering the way Eddie was written for Ryan, they could very much have told him "look, play with the chemistry you and Oliver have, if the audience likes with might amp it up, if we're lucky we might go there someday" because you have moments in season 2, but season 2 is still very low stakes, but then when I think about the the season 3 of it all, the there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you, the lawsuit, and well of it all and the way they put Ryan in pr jail after Eddie begins, an episode that would retroactively be HUGE for buddie but it's pretty big for them anyway, I'm like 🤔 because we all saw Ryan talking about buddie this past month, the guy CANT SHUT UP, and if he was told something during season 3 or 4 along the line of "play it up, we are gonna fight to make this happen", putting him in pr jail would make sense, because they can't risk him saying something if they're not sure they can deliver, because how fast they dealt with Buck being bi while in a new network makes me convinced someone on fox was blocking it and nothing will convince me otherwise. But now they can, so they let Ryan run free. Because you can make a VERY strong argument that Eddie is aware of something during season 5 and 6, season 6 most of all, but you can very much make season 5 queer coded and have Eddie be like "oh I can't ignore how I feel about him anymore", because Ryan also said something about Eddie's breakdown and how that's what allowed Eddie to let Buck "know who Eddie truly is" which is interesting with the way Eddie is constructed, because if Buck is inside the last wall Eddie had up, what's actually stopping Eddie to see he's in love with Buck by the end of the season? Which would make season 6 as a pining season for Eddie make sense. Down to the way the cemetery seems to be pulling these very specific reactions from Eddie that are the same reactions we saw him have in breakups and flights with Shannon. But also things like Eddie's reaction to the lightning being something we never saw from Eddie before AND the way Oliver talked about a scene of Eddie losing his composure during in another life, not during in a flash that we didn't get to see most likely because they completely rearranged 6b because they thought they were gonna get cancelled, so they wouldn't be able to deliver what they had in mind. But now they have nothing but time, season 8 is already confirmed, and by the looks of it abc was like "go for it" with buddie in a way that fox never was, so they finally got to tell Ryan "we're doing it, go crazy" and now we are here. They could prove me right today. About Eddie not about Ryan knowing and some secret plan being in place forever. I don't think it's gonna happen. I seriously don't think it's gonna happen. I'd be more surprised to be proved right than wrong here. But the conspiracy theory is a possibility that felt very real for a second there during promo season lol

My theory is that Eddie is going to be written as an ever straighter man in 7x05. Based on the leaks (however true they are), it seems like I’m going to be right, but I was thinking all of this before the leaks came out. I won’t say what they are, only the things I’ve been thinking for weeks or things that can be easily assumed based on writing and plot. (Also please don’t send me more spoilers, I want to have some surprise)

In s7 so far, Eddie has been seen as a guy who married a woman. I thought the line “you mean slept with,” was weirdly included to show that Eddie likes to sleep with women. Also he enjoys cars, martial arts, going to the bar, and basketball. Can queer men like these things? Of course, Tommy does, Buck does (mostly), but the point is that they’re seen as stereotypically straight-man stuff, which is why it’s more shocking that Tommy and Buck are queer. They’re giving Eddie more traits to make him ever more masculine. They mention his girlfriend a lot and show them standing pressed-up against each other.

We all know that Buck is going to come out to Eddie in his loft. I can 100% see them having Eddie being the very supportive straight best friend to Buck, because I think the show wants that dynamic of “queer man and best friend face no awkwardness, just support and love.” To show the audience that two men, even one who’s bi can still have a close best friendship with another man without it going romantic.

Oliver and Tim both said things along the lines of the crush not being on Eddie, no plans for buddie right now. Ryan said (around the time of shooting this episode) they’re going to be closer than ever, which I assumed weeks ago was that Eddie is going to call Buck brother in that loft scene. Closer than ever? They haven’t recently defined their relationship at all, so being referred to as brothers would definitely fit that mark. This also would create deniability for the writers not making buddie canon, because “they’re brothers.” Oliver also said “if one character realizing his bisexuality” and I know he was talking specifically about people’s reactions to Buck, but the singularity of it made me instantly think that he’s the only one exploring his sexuality this season.

Next, we know Eddie and Marisol have a sexy time moment in this next episode because the actress posted a picture. Easiest way for the audience to see Eddie as a straight man? Have sex with a woman. “But Buck had lots of sex with women and he’s bi!” True. But you have to think of it as a general audience, mainly straight, viewer. Woman = not gay. Especially with what (according to leaks) seems like the plot will be more about Eddie wanting sex than the other way around. We know he and Shannon had a good sex-life and that it’s implied that he and Ana hooked up at least once if not more. He’s no Buck 1.0, but when it comes to Eddie’s sex-life, the writers aren’t shying away from him being seen as a manly man.

In the promo we see him and Marisol at the restaurant and the one thing I noticed first was the fact that Edy’s shirt is low cut and her push-up bra is truly doing the most. Like half of her boobs are just totally out. Wardrobe dressed her to look all sexy (they very likely provided the bra too), to show that Eddie is a typical dude-bro with a hot female girlfriend. In an episode that Ryan mentioned included something about intimacy, and from what I know of the leaks, it’s really digging into the fact that men have sex with women and it’s all the show that Eddie is here for that.

If buddie ever goes canon, the earliest I can imagine things even starting on Eddie’s side would be season 8. I think Marisol is here to stay until further notice, which makes me sick, but I’m theorizing that the “looks at their relationship closer” thing will be him asking her to move in, because that’s the only thing it can be. From what we’ve seen and heard, their relationship is going good, and even though these writers have lost the plot (literally and metaphorically), because it’s been less than 5 months of dating and they’re still getting to know each other, they think that seems like the next step in their relationship. It once again will highlight the way they want Eddie to be seen as a macho guy. I know so many people are thinking that the writers are just putting Eddie through this relationship to show that he’s a repressed queer man, but i don’t agree. I mean, yeah he could been repressed, but I don’t think that’s why the writers are doing what they’re doing. I think we’re trying to find something that they’re not giving us, because what they’re giving us just feels so wrong with everything else we know about Eddie so far and where his story was leading to in s6.

Plot wise, buddie still made the most sense. Past tense. The end of season 6 really fucked with things to the point where had they gotten rid of both girlfriends, it would’ve been fine, but it still feels like Buck and Eddie are too separate right now for it to go romantic as it is right now. But as for partners, yeah, Buck and Eddie will always make the most sense for each other in theory. In practice though, the show does have to worry about ratings and hopefully the reactions to Buck show them that they don’t have to worry about it negatively affecting the show, but I just really don’t think that they’ll have Eddie be anything other than straight because they’ll lose fans that way. Granted it’s homophobic fans, and they’ll gain more queer fans, but when you think about the business side, the numbers would jump too much. I love how much we all love watching 911, but people watching through pirated links, illegal streaming sites, tumblr gifs, TikTok’s, and uploaded google files, while they are obvi massive fans, aren’t considered in the viewership counts. The show may gain a huge influx of viewers if Buddie happens, but the numbers they’re looking at aren’t tumblr users, they’re people watching on Hulu and live TV. Which tends to be people in older demographics, people they risk losing if they have the other “hot straight firefighter” “go gay.”

This isn’t to be negative. I love buddie. I love BuckTommy right now too. I’ll be so sad when Tommy leaves. I’m just trying to be realistic because I can see so many people getting their hopes up, and not just in a fun shipping way, but in a real way where they’re confident buddie is going to happen this season. I’m so scared for the show and everyone’s heartbreak when it doesn’t happen.

The production hired an intimacy coordinator for episodes 7x04 and 7x05. As we all know and still are in celebratory mode, yesterday's episode seen Oliver kissing another man, hence the intimacy coordinator. For next week's episode, do you think Buck and Tommy will kiss again? Maybe. But since it's also an episode about Eddie figuring things out with Marisol, my theory is that after Eddie finds out about the Buck/Tommy date and kiss, he will go and dive in with the title to cope with something so unfamiliar yet familiar to him. Confusion, hurt, and betrayal.

So Eddie/Marisol kiss, that is!

It makes sense.

I assume Buck might confess to Eddie after the date crash, and Eddie, possibly quite shookt, will remain calm and is nothing but supportive to Buck. Of course he will. How could he.

So, to cope with the shocking news, he will go for Marisol's title instead. Kiss and/or sex scenes. Like an assurance. Because knowing Eddie, he might not know what to do with the shocking new information about Buck and Tommy as a thing. Like it'll play the uno reverse card on his face. Buck starts to focus more on Tommy, Eddie trying to get Buck's attention in every petty way, asking him to hangout and all but Buck is happily busy with Tommy.

So yes, Marisol title it is hence the intimacy coordinator. And I think it's okay. It'll also be the start of Eddie gay panic era. He's hurting deep inside (might be worse than Buck felt the jealousy between Eddie and Tommy) in a very Eddie way, seeing Buck so happy and dating a guy. Would question himself as to why he's feeling these feelings.

Oh boy! 911 is getting gayer and gayer.

Or...

If we're lucky, we're gonna see another Buck and Tommy kiss again. In Buck's bed!

SaL anon here friend and, well, yay for low expectations indeed!!! The episode was a lot more fun than I was expecting (especially on the bee front, I really expected 10 minutes of bees then everyone moves on) and I admit to getting totally surprised by the final Buck saves Gerrard scene. It will definitely be interesting to see that play out. Maddie was actually pretty involved in the rescues, we got some HenRen and Madney family time (with tension, but still...), and the firefam (minus Bobby, poor guy 🥺) was in peak form. It was definitely way more balanced than I was expecting, its gonna be hard to tamp down on my optimism going forward.

So now for the the rage, which for once isn't directed at the show. May Helena get shoved into her brand new pool the moment its complete, and its debatable at this point if water should be in it or not when she does. I do love the idea that Helena is sort of a stand-in for Shannon that Eddie will eventually have to face and I hope he will. Eddie deserves to stand in front of the people who doubt him and say with his whole heart that he is a good father, that he's made mistakes but he's trying to do better (unlike Helena herself who just moved onto a substitute son), and he deserves to be Chris' dad. And when he does I do not want to see any hint of a redemption arc for her, we've done enough of that with shitty parents on this show and it needs to stop.

Speaking of irredeemable characters, let's talk about Tommy. So after reading the interviews I think I've convinced myself that Tommy Kinard really is Taylor Kelly 2.0, but this time its going to be done right. No, Tim hasn't earned this level of trust but hear me out. So its already been noted how similar the two are (being condescending to Buck, him having to chase after them, etc), but this "baggage" storyline I find intriguing because we all know about Tommy's past behavior and its seems like the most obvious issue. So not sure if you blocked it from memory but if you remember towards the end of 5a we had to endure an episode of TayKay backstory where we learn she basically wanted to become a reporter to "tell the truth" even though in fact she was doing the same harmful BS that was done to her. And Buck just accepted that, even though his adoptive Dad was a victim of it. What if he doesn't do that this time, doesn't just let Tommy off with the "I did it because it was done to me" excuse and it doesn't take the near death of one of his teammates to make him decide to walk away. For Buck to finally say, for himself, this person and I are not going to work, we value different things and I can't overlook that (no I'm not counting Natalia as him doing this because that was a barely there relationship and she was, in fact, creepy). That would probably be too narratively satisfying, but one can hope.

And as for Buddie, well, how many times do Oliver, Ryan, and the damn showrunner have to repeat how intertwined these two are before people get it?? They've certainly demonstrated that over and over again on screen (seriously how much more co-parent does it get than Eddie begging Buck to "do what he always does" regarding Chris in the final episode of the last season??!!) and we've already said that of course Tim is never going to take that back, he planned it that way!! And I know I shouldn't get my hopes up but honestly, if its been spelled out by all involved that these men are never going to be separated, that they will always have priority in each others lives including over other, new relationships (the only ones these men ever have 🤨), its really not a stretch to imagine that turning romantic, and I'd argue makes a hell of a lot of sense. As for my crack theory for today, I saw the one interview line about there being a brief moment between Buck and Eddie that demonstrates the depth of their relationship and my brain immediately went to "oooh, but what if they have a nice supportive hug in 8x06 but as they pull away look briefly like they're going to kiss....but back away instead as Buck walks away shaking his head like he's being silly while Eddie just quietly stares out a window" moment?? I would like to see it. Not looking forward to seeing at what point in the season the wine in my fridge becomes necessary to get through an episode, but I'm happy this episode wasn't it (cheers anyway though 🥂)!!

Hiiiiiii bestie! I had family in this weekend and had fully convinced myself they would show up late Friday with sleepy kids, drop them off, and go on their anniversary get-away and I could come answer this once everyone was in bed. Cut to people being in my home until after midnight and then non-stop toddler and newborn and 8 year-old shenanigans. But it's all quieted down so I'm here now!

I was pleasantly surprised as well!! (Which is the point of low expectations! Either I'm right (which I was about some things) or I'm pleasantly surprised! All wins except when they tunnel under the bar I set in hell.) The Athena stuff took a bit of a different turn than I was expecting before the episode started and I'm cautiously optimistic about all that, and the bees managed to give us a couple different emergencies, all scary in different ways, with lots of good Encyclopedia Buck! We had Maddie working her end of the emergency with some delicious tension and a happy ending, plus the brief Bobby and Henren/Madney stuff which while brief, set up for a lot more to come on those fronts and I'm excited for it! Despite my best efforts, I feel the excitement rising!

I am fully stretched, gloved up, and ready to fight Helena in a Denny's parking lot!! At least in the cases of Toni and Ramon we got some kind of acknowledgement that their actions hurt their kids and they felt bad about that (vs the Buckley parent's "I'm sorry you felt that way" kinda vibe where the play the victim), but Helena's actions have NEVER been brought up by anyone and i NEED it to be addressed!! I have also seen the posts about her being a Shannon stand-in for Eddie to confront which is about a million times better than some doppelganger plot no one wanted, needed, or asked for and that did not actually address the thing they kept teasing that it would, namely, that Eddie was looking at that relationship with rose colored glasses and not actually talking with his son about the reality they all lived now that Chris is old enough to start putting some pieces together and addressing his own hurt and abandonment. ANYWAY. i need Eddie to realize he IS a good dad, and go get his kid, even if Chris is still mad because what the FUCK they can't just keep him for months? What about his special school he had to fight to get Chris into? What about fucking TAXES because THAT can become an issue if given enough time. What about established doctors and insurance networks outside of the state? Like, this has made so many plot holes that it had better be fucking WORTH IT with some good Eddie scenes, taking Helena DOWN, and some good Diaz boys scenes of actually talking and addressing the Shannon of it all. Bonus points if we get Buck having his boy's backs!

I'm actually cackling quite often about the BT parallels because they are just SO many and SO loud like, ???? what are we even doing here? Especially after that fucking "hamster wheel" comment last season (when Oliver still had light and hope in his eyes because they were filming karaoke stuff) only for him to be in literally a mirror to his longest and worst relationship. SO, it actually would be so satisfying, as well as on brand for petty Tim, to do the story he wanted to do, and do it right this time when he found out it was going to be Buck not Eddie doing this storyline (people make me laugh believing Tim that L was supposed to come back when we know Eddie was the planned story at first and also 911 got canceled for the show AK is on right now so she was never available and after that marketing flop they were never going to bring her back but I digress). At this point I'm just hoping for SOMETHING narratively satisfying, and at LEAST hearing from Hen and Chim because GOOD GOD. No one in the firefam has ever once minded their own business and kept their mouths shut except when the show is trying to push a shitty LI and hope the audience forgot their actions, or when trying to redeem shitty parents without putting in the work. So I need the gag order to be lifted! I need them to be allowed to speak!

The Buddie stuff is...well....it's....sure a lot of very interesting things happening! Some interesting trends, and attitudes, and choices being made. And knowing that FOX was the thing standing in the way....Well. Where is my Night Vale Quote I use for these situations?

I'm all on board for your crack theory, or literally anything that gives us some delicious pining Buddie!! I'm not gonna lie friend, I'm feeling hopeful! In that way where I feel a little sick? But hopeful! So cheers, and here's hoping Eddie (and consequently Ryan, and Buck, and Oliver, and Buddie) finally gets out and we can all be insufferable forever and ever together! Yay!

I haven't been writing because, life, but I got a tiny tablet and keyboard to sneak into work so we'll see! Also, I was supposed to be out of the state on vacation this week but my mom messed up her back so we might not be going in which case I will try and do some writing enough to share a little something! If we do go, I'll likely be late watching the episode so we'll see! But I have *goals* to actually work on this fic because the 12.5k words I have are good and I want to share!!! I need to vent this to someone and idk why but i just feel like you’ll understand me idk but….

I’m terrified about next week’s episode… like I feel like there is so much within the fandom that is hanging onto next week’s episode being a definite thing on whether or not buddie will go canon, and it’s been stressing me out seeing all of the discourse… I have so many strong feelings about the idea of Tommy (who has always pissed me off as a character from the Begins episodes) and how so many people just suddenly out of nowhere love the guy and compare him to Buck and Eddie when there has literally been barely anything comparable to the two of them as characters since he’s been back. Not only that, but the theory of Buck and Tommy being a thing as a potential for Eddie to come to terms with his feelings doesn’t make me feel comfortable— Not in a “omg i just want Buck and Eddie to jump into bed with each other and call it a day” because i don’t… I just know us queer people are still only seen as tokens half the time, and I’m worried that if they pair Buck with a guy (while Yay for bi!Buck) who is a character that A) is from his past, and B) is for some reason all of a sudden adored by a bunch of people (for reasons i will never understand)… I’m afraid they will just put he and Buck together and call it a day, and just keep Eddie and Buck as “brothers” when that is such a disservice to both of them… If Buck does become confirmed as bisexual, I have no issue with him exploring his sexuality with other men who aren’t principal characters because that won’t have any bearing on the finality of buddie as a ship, but I’m afraid that by putting Buck and Tommy together will somehow be ABC’s way of saying “Eh this will do” because of the way so many people have suddenly jumped onto the bucktommy train.

On top of that, the idea of getting jealous!buck would make me happy if it weren’t for the fact that it’s Tommy, and I am terrified that the writers are trying to wrap him up in this glittering duct tape bow and say “we’re not going to give you what you’ve been asking for for 6 years, but we’ll give you this cheap knock off” due to the speculation that Eddie will somehow reaffirm that he sees Buck as just a friend being the catalyst for Buck exploring his sexuality with Tommy.

It would be painful as a longtime buddie truther, but it would also be painful as a genuine fan of the characters because i feel like that would ruin everything they have built together over the past 6 years, and it would be a cop-out because they don’t want to go that route, even though they are the ones who have set up buddie in this context on so many different occasions…. sure a lot of buddie moments can be real things that happened in platonic relationships, but the framing and subtext has always been this will they/won’t they dynamic, and it feels so icky to me for them to make Buck Bi, and have him NOT end up with Eddie.

And I know people are quick to point out Ryan and Oliver in these recent interviews and everything as some sort of evidence towards buddie canon, but I would think a lot of us have been in this carousel long enough to know that if the possibility of a popular queer romance on a show is one of the BIGGEST marketing tactics that shows use. I’m not saying that Ryan and Oliver themselves are queerbaiting because of how much they’ve supported the buddie fandom over the years, but something in me feels like a lot of their PR appearances lately have been to intentionally cause speculation so that they don’t lose the buddie portion of the viewers when they rip the rug out from under us…. (again not blaming Ryan and Oliver AT ALL because they have no say)

idk if any of that makes sense and im sorry for like the novel i just wrote in your asks lmao but i just needed to get that off my chest and you are one of the few people I have seen who also seems to dislike Tommy’s character, and could maybe possibly see where I’m coming from with my anxiety on this whole thing because it’s been making me spiral lately….

it’s just this ship (as i’m sure it is to others) is really important to me and seeing the online support of a bucktommy romance as a means of getting buddie worries me that the writers will take that as people wanting bucktommy canon and just giving us that as consolation for not giving us buddie and that breaks my heart because i have such a deep connection to both Buck and Eddie in different ways, and i want to see them and their relationship done good service, and frankly none of the theories i’ve seen surrounding it have been anything i want to see with them because i hate tommy, and don’t want him of all people to be the reason we get screwed over.

hi there! you pretty much described exactly what i've been feeling and i 100% understand and feel your anxiety. most people have been super excited for the next ep but i truly feel like it won't go over well for us (though i'll gladly be pleasantly surprised). i even had to log off twitter for a bit because thinking about all the potential ways this thing with tommy could go was giving me legitimate anxiety (yes i'm aware that's not an entirely normal way to feel about a tv show, but sue me, i'm mentally ill)

i feel like i also haven't really been able to enjoy 911 twitter, tumblr, tiktok etc anymore because so many people, like you said, just jumped onto the bucktommy train and i hate it for so many reasons. i just wish everybody was as keen on ignoring that guy as i am.

Arrow of Time- [Five Hargreeves x F Reader]. Chapter 12 (Hard Feelings Part 5)

SUMMARY: When the mother of all teenage tantrums causes time itself to fracture, Five has to travel back to 1831 to repair the damage. But will he be able to cope with what he finds there? On to Chapter 13 >> << Back to Chapter 11

After failing to close the portal in 1831, Five and you have no excuse not to talk. Back at home, Aoife faces her Aunt with a new sense of determination.

Chapter 12: Asshole ideas

You and Five sit in the tavern in silence. It’s the same one you stayed in when you arrived. Five has his head in both hands, looking down at the table top.

“I was sure that would work. All the theory was sound. The first stage was working, it just didn’t have the effect I thought it would.”

“Theories don’t always work in practice,” you murmur.

“Gravity is a theory,” Five snaps, “but you don’t float the fuck away,” and then, with a look at your face, “sorry, that wasn’t called for.”

You scoff, bitterly, “Don’t worry, I’m getting used to it.”

He’s ordered you both whisky and swills his around the glass for a few moments. Still staring into its amber depths, he takes a breath and says:

“We should talk.”

“When we get home,” you say, shortly.

“I don’t know when we’ll be getting home, dear one.”

The use of the old endearment feels deliberate. You don’t let it have the effect he no doubt intended but he continues nevertheless.

“We got nothing but time here. I need to rest before I try again so why don’t we just…talk.”

He reaches his hand across the table and covers yours. He’s taken off the overcoat and long jacket and sits there in his waistcoat, high-necked shirt and neckcloth. You meet his eye and he blinks slowly before smiling gently. Does he know how handsome he is; looking at you between those thick eyelashes? If you weren’t still smarting from the injustice, you could almost forget his accusations from earlier in the day.

“Stick it up your ass.” you say, withdrawing your hand from his.

For the smallest of seconds, he looks as if he wants to throw up his hands, abandon the conversation and flip the table for good measure but, instead, he takes it on the chin.

“Okay. I guess I deserve that. You don’t want me to talk, I get it. So how about I listen? I know what it’s like being lost in time and you always listen to me, how about I return the favor?”

He smiles at you, perhaps a little forced but genuine in intention. You huff. Fine, if he wants it, he can have it.

“Why did you leave me here for a year?”

He grimaces, “I’m sorry. Maybe it was the few minutes I took to work out the plan or maybe Aoife kicked me through a little differently than she did you but I left as soon as I could. I couldn’t have predicted this.”

You look down at the tabletop. It would be satisfying to be able to blame him entirely right now.

“There was a time I thought prostitution was my only option. I have no skills that count here: I can’t sew, I can’t paint, I can’t play the piano. There was no way to support myself.”

He nods, still holding his hand open across the table. You eye it briefly and pointedly don’t take it, yet he doesn’t withdraw it. He leaves it there, an olive branch waiting patiently as you continue.

“Do you understand how lucky I was to meet Lewis? And I would have been even if he expected sex. How could you blame me if I had been fucking him? Being a rich guy’s mistress is safer than living on the streets. Would you rather I lived in some slum and got typhus or whatever? I couldn’t get home to Aoife if I was dead, right?”

He swallows here, jaw twitching. You carry on, enjoying the fact that this honesty is torturing him. You’re glad to inflict this pain and to do it in a way you can convince yourself is necessary.

“I want you to listen to me: I didn’t fuck him but maybe you should treat it as if I did. I would have fucked him if I had to: that’s the reality of this world,” you gesture broadly at the air around you. “I’d have hated it but I’d have done it as many times as I needed to. I’d have done anything . If you can’t cope with that idea then…then fuck you ..”

He looks pained. He looks down at his own fingers on the table, face working fiercely to repress something: perhaps rage, perhaps something else. After a few moments, he regains control and nods slowly. A single, reluctant tear drops onto the table from between his closed lashes. The nod communicates repentance as well as acceptance but now you’ve started, you just can’t stop. And you don’t care anyway; he asked for this.

“Lewis is a horny old bullshitter but he’s the closest thing I’ve had to a friend since I’ve been here,” you break off then, a horrible suspicion breaking on you, “hold on: what did you do to him? You didn’t…you didn’t kill him?”

Five presses his lips together and shakes his head. When he speaks, he has the good grace to look guilty.

“I didn’t, but I beat him.”

“How badly? Is he ok?”

A taught muscle jumps in his jaw, “He’ll need a week or so in bed but he’ll be fine. He was on his feet when I left.”

“Let me guess,” you say, “he denied it over and over again and then he lied to you just to get you to stop?”

Five rests his forehead on his hand with a sigh, nodding without looking at you. You shake your head, huffing out a disgusted breath. Lewis was no angel but he didn’t deserve that. You can hear Five’s boot beneath the table, shuffling uncomfortably.

“You’re a fucking idiot.”

Five nods in agreement, still not meeting your eye. You take a few moments before starting to speak again, your anger quietened for a moment as your mind returns to what you were saying before this little interlude.

“He made it clear he was interested.” you say, “I’m just…lucky that he didn’t really expect sex. And…he was kind . With everyone else I was always watching my back. There are all these invisible rules I didn’t know I was breaking. And I had to change so much about myself to fit in: I had to compromise on everything I believe in just to get by.”

Five takes a deep breath and looks up at you.

“I’m sorry. And not just for the way I acted: I’m sorry you had to go through that. I know it can’t have been easy.”

Then his brow wrinkles as a thought strikes him.

“But, you know, it sounds a lot like how you talk about your actual job.”

You look at him, confused for the moment, but then the reflection strikes you. Blending in in the 1830s has been a unique experience, sure, but the way it made you feel was wearying in its familiarity. Until now, you’d never known why: the changes you had to make here were more dramatic than those to get by in the business world but…maybe they were equally demoralizing.

“And that’s the weird thing,” you say, “it’s not all bad here. At least I felt like I was actually doing something, you know? Feeding people- fulfilling an actual need and not just churning stuff back into a money-making machine.”

He nods again. It’s something he’s privately been thinking for a while but has kept to himself. Lingering anxiety about appearing possessive or controlling had caused him to unjustly judge his own motives in doing otherwise: your career is important to you and he wanted to respect that at all costs. Sure, the high points had been high but, for the last half-decade or so, he’d seen far more lows.

Your mind has moved on; back to the hopelessness that crept forwards like an encroaching tide these last few months.

“I had nothing,” you say, biting back tears. You don’t jerk away when he stretches further across the table and squeezes your forearm, “I didn’t know when you’d come. I was starting to think you never would-”

“You know I’d always-”

You raise your voice, speaking over him, “I bought ads in the newspaper every week. It cost most of my wages,” you’re sobbing a little now, “and I-I had to sell my engagement ring when I got here to afford clothes and I waited and waited for you and-”

His hand is off you now, searching the pockets of his overcoat but you barely notice: finally able to talk about it now, the dam has burst.

“-you weren’t coming. And Lewis was the only person I could talk to about you and Aoife and he was always half trying to get in my pants-”

One of his hands grips your left wrist. He pulls your hand away from your face where it’s been hiding tears and draws it to the center of the table. As your eyes want to shift confusedly from your captured hand to his face, they’re caught by your ruby and pearl ring as he slips it on top of your wedding ring.

Your breath, already unsteady from crying, dies entirely in your throat. You stare, dumbstruck at your own finger. You manage to whoop in a swallow of air and exhale it in a whimper. Shock, disbelief and something that feels like a small coronary all compete for your attention. His eyes, (unexpected contenders in the competition) win out as they appeal to yours.

“I found it in a pawn shop.” he says, voice low, “It led me to you.”

He smiles unsteadily.

You can feel tears wanting to stream down your face and your lip shaking with the sobs they’re trying to contain. Speaking is simply not an option just now. You’re lucky the tavern is empty but for the two of you.

“I’m sorry, okay?” he says, drawing your hand to his lips and kissing the fingers, “I was so wrong. I should never have believed what someone else said without speaking to you first. And…you’re right. I shouldn't have blamed you even if you did have to…sleep with other people.” He takes a breath.

“I…you’ve just been so busy recently, -from my perspective- and I’ve missed…” he blinks embarrassedly, “...us. For me it’s been just over two months since we had sex and for the last six months at least it’s been…we haven’t done it often. And I’m not…I do understand , honestly. I just felt … it made me feel cut off from you.”

You’re still staring down at your engagement ring, barely listening, trying hard not to wail and draw the attention of the bartender.

“And all that combined with me being off my meds. I just forgot to pick them up to come here. It’s not an excuse but it is a contributing factor…I’ll do better.”

You finally look up at him now, heart fluttering; he’s using his brisk, businesslike tone. It was one of the first things that made you fall in love with him when he set the terms for your initially casual relationship. He’d acted as if he was negotiating a merger between Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. Back then, you had thought it just an amusing personality quirk but now you know better. He uses it to hide insecurity when he truly wants to do right in an emotionally thorny situation. It’s a practice wrapped up in guilt, decades of isolation from others and a lingering distrust of his own feelings. His eyes, perfect green, are wide in his earnestness.

“You’re my daughter’s mother; you deserve more respect than that. I’m sorry for what I said. it wasn’t right or fair…and it’s not who I want to be.”

You look back down at your engagement ring and then up at him again, tears renewing as you take in his face.

“I’m s-so sorry I hit you…I feel worse about that than anything else in our marriage.”

“Even worse than the time you ate that entire pack of gourmet marshmallows Viktor got me for Christmas?” he pauses to wipe the tears from your cheek, “I can forgive but I just can’t forget.”

You give a watery laugh and he leans across the table to kiss you with his swollen lip.

“Let her try. ”

Diego stood in the study, hand in hand with Aoife and glaring over at Lila and Luther. Neither of them were impressed with Aoife and Diego’s little idea. Lila sighed and squeezed the pressure points on the bridge of her nose.

“I practically grew up at the Commision,” she said, for Aoife’s sake trying to sound more patient than she felt, “I never heard anything about ‘intuitive time travel'. It’s all logic. It’s maths.”

“But what Aoife says makes sense, ” said Diego, with an appeal, “why not try it? Five’s plan didn’t work the first time and Aoife’s time traveled successfully on her own before: she’s better qualified than any of us. What’s the worst that could happen?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” replied Luther, sarcastically, “she could kick us all through a mystery portal?” and then, looking at Aoife, “sorry sweetheart.”

“Then run away and hide if you’re so chicken, Number One.” Diego shot back.

As Luther looked daggers at his brother, Aoife stepped forward, drawing all eyes upon her. The set of her feet and the hard lines of her face again recalled her father to the minds of all three onlookers; she even had the little line between her eyebrows, serious eyes fixed on Lila.

“You know how you’re always saying Dad’s an asshole?”

“-Aoife, don’t curse-” Luther interjected, scandalized, but Lila spoke over him.

“-I usually say arse hole but it’s the same sentiment.”

Aoife swept her hair out of her eyes.

“Well, some version of Dad founded the Commission. So if he’s an asshole, they were founded on asshole ideas. If he based all of its time travel technology off of his understanding of it, then they would only know about the numbers-based side of it.”

“Go on.” Lila said, mouth pulled down at the corners.

“And it’s pretty fragile, right? From the stories you guys tell, all it takes is one little kugelblitz to make all the briefcases go kaput.”

“A kugelblitz isn’t little, hon-”

But Aoife waved her protest away and approached Lila, looking up at her.

“Whatever: but the tech relies on time itself ticking along nicely, right? So if all you have is Dad’s power on either side of the portal, then it’s never going to get fixed. Auntie Lila, I honestly think I understand it. It’s inside me. It’s inside Dad too, only he was never allowed to learn about it. Just let me try one time. Please.”

Lila grinned, again showing her teeth in an imp-like smile.

“Oh darling, you had me at ‘asshole’.”

Aoife returned her smile.

Back in the alleyway now, Five lets go of your hand and braces to try again.

“Keep watch,” he says, “we don’t know for sure we weren’t followed here.”

You nod and retreat to the mouth of the alley, leaning against the wall and watching the street.

Once you’re at a safe distance, he again dials in and the tear reappears above his head. His body buzzes again with electric adrenaline. Grunting in effort, he experimentally throws more complex math out there and then jolts with Lila’s returning echo.

“Ah,” he groans, wincing. The energy coursing through him feels not unlike the powerful orgasm he experienced a little while ago: it’s the same kind of intensity, the same thrill through every nerve.

And then the harmony- the beauty in the numbers. But something’s different this time. It’s not the same. There’s no order…no logic to this. Something’s…wrong….or right…it’s synesthetic: the logic is like a fall landscape, like the feeling of coming in from the cold, like the sound of fluttering wings, like the smell of burnt toast…like a screwdriver made of orchid petals. All the too many, all too confusing ideas and associations alarm him. He wants to call out to you, but doesn’t know if the right words will come out or if he’ll just speak nonsense.

“S-s-ometh-th-ing…” he says, through chattering teeth, “w-w-eird.”

Unable to think enough to try anything more complex, he instead sends simultaneous equations back and forth again. They’re simple, or would be, were his mind not screaming at him to trying multiplying 𝑥 by the tone of light you get in an open refrigerator instead of fifty seven.

“Five?”

He begins to shake, his arms pistoning forwards and backwards.

Lila shuddered as she and Five again connected across time, the mimicked power flowed into and out of her, making her chest feel like rotating bike pedals. She could feel it again…the balance. The peace- the perfection in whatever he’s doing.

Though she would rather eat an entire bowl of thumb tacks than tell Five this, her admiration for him was never higher than today; in these moments of connection. He was good: he was fucking good at this stuff. She’d known it, but she’d never felt it before on such a visceral level. To be absorbing a product of his mind was overwhelming. She could mimic his power, but never do this.

All though she’d laughed at him all those years ago on discovering that some permutation of him had founded the Commission, it had taught her not to underestimate him. Surely if there was some innate abstract quality to time travel, he wouldn’t be nearing his eighties without fully accessing it.

“Come on then, kiddo.” she said, with effort, “don’t make me work with your dad any longer than I have to!”

Aoife took a deep breath in and set her feet. She palpated the air in front of her, trying to turn off her conscious mind and access the plain of the jigsaw she’d felt, just out of reach, when Five showed her his Temporal Ambimeter. She remembered the perfect feeling of that last piece going in to create a harmonious picture. Now, her job was to put it back together- even if the puzzle pieces themselves were shattered.

Eyes closed, she reached into the void and felt around blindly. Above her…or maybe beside her, or maybe beyond her somehow, was the stream of communication between her father and Aunt, coursing together through this abstract, formless chamber-between.

Her mind has fingers- tendrils maybe? She ‘flexes’ them. They can’t grasp but they can…persuade. They can direct currents of ‘air’ to create suggestions.

“Honey, are you ok?”

Luther’s voice and the feeling of his hand on her cheek came as if from a very long way away, echoing into the intangibility and needing effort to translate into words. It took her even more effort to respond.

“It’s…I don’t know where I am.”

“You’re still right here. Stop if you need to.”

“No…it’s...”

She perceived the ‘puzzle’: broken and shattered…or maybe it wasn't a puzzle. Maybe it was the loose needle from her Dad’s Temporal Ambimeter, the one off-balance and rolling on the rest of the instrument after what she did to Mom. Conceptualizing it as a puzzle came more naturally to her but, regardless of which it was, it was in need of being solved or rebalanced: it needed nurture.

She stretched out her influence and introduced it to the broken parts.

‘Go on', she thought.

The ‘pieces’ twitch but nothing else happened.

‘It’s up there. It’s right there. Copy them.’

She scooped the air around them and they give a weak flurry in that direction, like fall leaves whipped by a breeze. They trembled in midair, preparing to resettle but she persuades them again, affecting the ‘airflow’ with her mind’s tendrils.

They’re floating now, starting to be attracted by the logic in Five and Lila’s connection, seeing the benefit in its repetitive, sure flow. She encourages them, willing them towards it with the influence of her power.

With a sound like a fork being slow motion zapped in a microwave, the tear closed like a sedate zipper.

“Five?”

He stumbled slightly, regaining balance as you jogged over to him.

“Are you okay?”

He shook his head from side to side experimentally, as if trying to drain water from his ears.

“We did it. It was weird for a moment there but we fixed it. I got no idea what Lila did but it seems…it felt okay.”

He scratched his chin, brow low in thought.

“How are we getting home?”

His mouth thinned into a grimace, “that’s the bad news. I didn’t know it would close so suddenly. I thought we’d have time to…hop through.”

“I…” his fingers squeezed yours, “I think I’m going to need to do a lot of math.”

You both whirled around as a familiar voice sounded from the end of the alleyway.

“I’m not sure that’s wise.”

Love Interest List

The "interlude" chapter I promised is mostly ready, or at least halfway so. While writing it, I ended up fleshing out the main Romantic Options, and so decided that writing up a "RO Roster" that describes everyone briefly may not be a bad idea. Keep reading if you want to see the list of Saturnine love interests and don't mind minor spoilers for the game.

Damon

Species: Android

Sex/Gender: Male

Orientation: Pansexual

Age: ~20 years

Appearance: Tall, pale skin, short blond hair, metallic eyes with blue irises

Likes: Nice suits, astronomy, flowers

Dislikes: Opening up for a single moment

Description: Damon was probably built to serve as a bouncer. He won’t confirm or deny that suspicion, that would require him to actually talk about his past, but everything about him points in that direction. His powerful stature, his love of suits, his desire to protect everyone in the group, his keen eyes, his skill with firearms. Coincidentally, those traits make him quite useful to your group, especially when it’s time to pack a punch.

Luckily, Damon’s not the mean type of bouncer. Ever since you met him some two years back, he’s been polite and friendly to everyone around him, even shy in some situations. You don’t suppose he’ll ever make a move on you, but if you don’t mind taking initiative yourself… His digital mind appears quite capable of love, and his body isn’t exactly missing any important parts.

Hadaly

Species: Android

Sex/Gender: Female

Orientation: Pansexual

Age: ~30 years

Appearance: Olive skin, titian hair, eyes that change color with the mood

Likes: Electronics, jumpsuits, patching the Player Character up

Dislikes: Humans, formal wear, idiocy

Description: Hadaly is a tinkerer. That’s what she always was for your group, and that’s what she’s good at. Electronics, engineering, android repair, you name it. Perhaps she was some kind of maintanance robot once, though that theory leaves you wondering why she’s so human-like in mind and appearance. You can’t even tell she’s an android at first glance, not until you see her eyes change color and spot the electric sparks between her fingers.

Hadaly doesn’t like to talk about her past. Whenever the subject gets brought up, her eyes turn blue and she begins stuttering, her confidence failing as though with a press of a switch. Perhaps literally—you don’t know if she has any switches or buttons anywhere on her body. She’s not one for revealing clothing, and won’t let you inspect her personally until you start working for it.

Kirill “Rook” Kosteniuk

Species: Metahuman

Sex/Gender: Male

Orientation: Bisexual

Age: 303 years (effective age 32 years)

Appearance: Black skin, short dark hair, blue eyes

Likes: Talking, preaching, playing chess

Dislikes: Coffee, contractions

Description: Of all the people you’re working with, Kirill is probably the most human. He has some ill-defined powers, but looks and acts like a normal guy. Unless you consider his impeccable manners and love of long sentences to be abnormal, in which case fair enough.

Technically speaking, Kirill is the leader of the whole operation your group is forced to participate in, but his competency is… questionable at the best of times. He will definitely appreciate some support and advice from you and is likely to accept your friendship, but don’t expect him to lie down for you right away. As a deeply religious man, he may even decide to wait until marriage before doing anything too fun. Comes with the territory.

Renfri “Marshal” Riannon

Species: Kinnari

Sex/Gender: Female

Orientation: Lesbian

Age: 29 years

Appearance: Dark skin, chestnut hair, brown eyes, caramel feathers, nice thighs

Likes: Painting, being the hero, partisan politics, hamburgers

Dislikes: The Player Character

Description: Make no mistake; Renfri does not like you. You are an android, a creature she was taught to mistrust at the absolute least. Some even say her species, the winged Kinnaris, was engineered specifically to hunt rogue automatons like yourself. It’s hard to dispute that theory, given the constant glares of her narrowed, brown eyes.

Still, Renfri isn’t half bad once you get to know her. She’s not incapable of showing affection, and her sharp tongue can be used for humor just as well as for snide remarks. Maybe you still have a chance with this bird… provided you’re about as sapphic as her.

Lisa “Hellhound” Herbert

Species: Werewolf

Sex/Gender: Female

Orientation: Straight

Age: 24 years

Appearance: Fair skin, cropped ginger hair, grey eyes, sometimes lupine

Likes: Bad movies, bad alcohol, bad boys

Dislikes: Kirill, bombs, bald women, hedgehogs

Description: Lisa couldn’t care less about your group, your mission, or half the things happening around her. She’s just serving out her sentence, and while she may enjoy a good fight whilst in her wolf form, all interest disappears once there’s nothing to rip apart. At that point she’ll either go to sleep or get wasted, depending on the time of day and availability of drinks. That’s all she cares about, and stop implying she may actually care about her teammates or protecting people. Or else.

That’s not to say Lisa isn’t interested in you specifically. You have some things in common, outcasts once hunted by the Kronian Federation, big guns of the makeshift team you’re both on. And if you happen to also be a hot dude… maybe there’s yet another way of passing the time.
