I am perfectly normal about the Psychonauts timeline
Spoiler warning for...everything.
As I was playing Psychonauts 2, I had a vibe that Ford and the Psychic Seven were active during the late 1920s, early 1930s, mostly because of the Model T Ford in Cruller's Correspondence, but also because of the biplane in the diorama of Ford fighting Maligula from Fatherland Follies. But there were some issues with that - namely the Feel Mobile which resembles more a model of van released around 1964. I feel compelled to mention it looks like the Motherlobe is trapped in the 70s, technology-wise.
So I looked up the timeline on the Psychonauts fandom wiki, as well as the blurb from Psychonauts about the history of Whispering Rock. And while clicking through the wiki, I found a copy of the Li-Po document, which contains the following line:
[...] when [Ford Cruller] was [...] away fighting for the Lincoln Brigade in the Spanish Civil War [...]
Firstly, based.
Secondly, that means Ford had to be at least 16* by 1937 (when American volunteers were sent to Spain). At least if we are to believe that this...very specific part of the Li-Po document is still canon. Which...I mean, we could. We know Ford was already an adult when he assembled the Psychic Seven, but we don't know how old he was. From the looks of him in the mental vaults and illustrations, he was definitely older than 16 (considering the full moustache). Meaning that it is possible Ford spent his younger years fighting in the Lincoln Brigade, then when he matured started looking more into his and others' psychic powers.
Possible? Yes. Plausible? Ehhh...considering the story of Psychonauts 2 is deeply tied to the trauma the Psychic Seven endured surrounding the Grulovian Civil War then the Deluge of Grulovia, I doubt that Ford's previous involvement in a very bloody battalion (22.5% of Lincoln Battalion fighters died in the Spanish Civil War) would have gone unmentioned. Since it makes no appearance in Psychonauts 2, I think it's safe to say it's no longer canon.
So where does that leave us? With the only statement from the devs (specifically Tim Schafer himself) that points us towards a date for the game's events:
"We think of it as taking place in the 80's but not necessarily the 80's, in case we need a piece of technology that we're stealing from the 90's."
So...that leaves us with a year range of 1980 to 1999. However, if technology is an issue (specifically, taking place during the 80s but needing some tech from the 90s), that means the game probably takes place in the late 80s, early 90s. I interpret this as being between 1987 and 1993. So, we've narrowed it down! Based on my arbitrary definition of "late" and "early"!**
Is there any way to narrow it down further? Unfortunately, not from what I can find - the tech we see in the Motherlobe is more reminiscent of the 60s and 70s (the computers we see on peoples' desks and in Sasha's lab look akin to a Xerox Alto, which came out in 1973), and I don't know enough about the history of other technology we see in-game to infer information about the timeline. If someone else has knowledge about things I may have missed that point us towards a date, please reblog and let me know!
Now, before I get into what I see as the timeline, I do want to address Maloof's line when you release him from the GPC.
"Nah, the staff hasn't put any kids in the GPC since the fifties."
Which goes against the timeline written on the log in the parking lot (which states that Whispering Rock Summer Camp was only created 5 years ago). I'm leaning more toward the written lore, since it's entirely possible Maloof is misinformed. After all, this is his first time at the camp. It's entirely possible Bobby (or another camper) has been lying to Maloof about the history of the staff's use of the GPC. For this reason, I'm disregarding this conflicting bit of evidence.
So! On to the actual timeline - at least, what I think it is. Starting from the beginning and working our way to the present day. I will represent the dates as a range, so "1987 - 1993" means "between 1987 and 1993." It doesn't mean that whatever event took place took that long, just that it happened at some point within that range. Good? Good! Let's go.
Brick's Speculative Psychonauts Timeline
1487 - 1493: A psitanium meteor strikes the area that will eventually be known as Whispering Rock, leaving behind a psitanium deposit.
1787 - 1793: A local indigenous group starts working with the psitanium, creating the arrowheads found in the first game, and names the area Whispering Rock (just, in their language, not English)
1887 - 1893: The mining town of Shaky Claim is established as part of the gold rush, except they're mining for psitanium. The psitanium deposit severely worsens the mental health of the people there.
1888 - 1894: The first case of 'Paranormal Hysteria' diagnosed in Shaky Claim.
1912 - 1918: Houston Thorney constructs Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed. Ford Cruller is born.
1927 - 1933: Houston Thorney commits suicide. The town's population is less than the amount of patients in Thorney Towers.
1932 - 1938: Thorney Towers Home for the Disturbed is closed but some patients still remain. The remaining residents of the valley leave and the area is flooded, resulting in Lake Oblongata.
[At some point, Ford assembles the Psychic Seven]
1967 - 1973: The Psychic Six fight Maligula. Grulovia is flooded then trapped below the frozen floodwaters. Helmut Fullbear is presumed dead. Shortly thereafter, Ford uses the Astralathe to modify the memories of Lucretia and Augustus, then to break his own mind.
[At some point, Charlie Psycho Delta is established then swiftly abandoned]
1982 - 1988: Whispering Rock Summer Camp is established.
1987 - 1993: The events of Psychonauts, Psychonauts: The Rhombus of Ruin, and Psychonauts 2 take place all within about a week (and that's being generous).
So there! That's what I think the timeline is. Again, if you have any feedback or want to point out something I missed, please let me know! I'm new to the games/lore/fandom so 'tis entirely possible!
The implications of this timeline are...interesting. The fact that during the fight with Maligula, something that was supported by multiple countries, they're using planes from the 1910s when it's at least 1967...the world of the Psychonauts isn't less technologically advanced - they have a jet that rivals ones from 2024! So I have no clue what that biplane is doing in Gristol's memory of the fight with Maligula. Unless we consider Gristol an unreliable narrator for that detail - but even then I'm unsure why he wouldn't have assumed they were using modern technology...? IDK. It's weird.
Anyways, if you got this far, thanks for reading! I'm flattered. I always love picking apart lore and timeline details like this, no matter the fandom I'm in. So consider this my hello to the Psychonauts fandom :-)
*According to the Wikipedia page for the Lincoln Battalion, that's probably the youngest any American volunteers were. ** The way I see it: if it ends in 1/2/3, it's early. If it ends in 4/5/6, it's mid. if it ends in 7/8/9, it's late.

The Sound of Empty Stomachs Is Louder Than Bombs
Tumblr media
Amidst the war, airstrikes and destruction, my family in Gaza is living a silent tragedy. Between the drone of warplanes and explosions, another sound echoes... the sound of empty stomachs. We all sit in the corner of our tent, waiting for a meal that may never come.
My family has not eaten vegetables or meat for more than three months. Day after day, something else is missing: yesterday it was fruit, today it is flour - a distant dream because of its scarcity and high price.
Will you let us suffer? Will you allow the sound of hunger to be louder than the voice of your conscience?
Donate to my family and help keep them alive. What might be your next meal is an unattainable dream for them.

Hello,
https://gofund.me/9d48061d
It has been more than a year since the aggression on Gaza, 🇵🇸
what is the fault of the babies and infants⁉️
A Children's innocence is killed every day in Gaza !⚠️
Also, what is the fault of my 10-month-old baby? He always has a high temperature due to fear, cannot sleep well and cries for long periods because of the bombing and the sound of warplanes.
Tumblr media
And This is my son Mahmoud's first winter, she has no winter clothes and the prices of diapers, milk and clothes have become astronomical. that requires a large financial reserve at a time when there is no source of income 🥺😭
Tumblr media
https://gofund.me/9d48061d
I ask you to help my little boy (Mahmoud), to provide for his needs. We are in dire need of you and your support...
A small donation from you makes a big difference.🙏
We are only strong with you and your standing by our side...❤️❤️🇵🇸
Winter has come and we are still in tents 🥹
Tumblr media
We also need to restore the tent to protect my child and my family from the danger of winter, and I will work to achieve that, and I hope that everyone will participate and donate to protect them from the cold and pain of winter.
I hope you look at us again and feel what we feel and what we live.
🚨Be a reason to save this family from danger 🙏❤️
Perhaps your donations will be a reason to save my life, the life of my family and my little child. I hope that you will always remember us and not forget us.❤️🇵🇸🍉
My heroic friends who support the Palestinian cause... Today, after we have lost hope in this world, I ask you to help us and stand by🇵🇸

What has happened in Gaza since the truce ended a mere 16 hours ago — do keep in mind that some of these source links include videos of what is described.
• Israel’s military said it had 'resumed combat' in Gaza where air strikes were reported as the seven-day truce came to an end on Friday morning local time. [ source ]
• The Israeli warplanes started bombing Gaza as soon as the temporary ceasefire expired. [ source ]

• Palestinians inspect the rubble of the Qanan family home which was bombed by Israeli warplanes in Khan Younis city. A number of deaths and injuries were reported. [ source ]
• Israeli warplanes bomb a home west of Khan Younis. [ source ]
• A faulty Israeli bomb was dropped by the Israeli warplanes on a home in Yebna refugee camp in Rafah city. [ source ]
• An Israeli bombardment targeted an UNRWA school in Jabalia refugee camp, north of Gaza. [ source ]
• Heavy Israeli air strikes in Khan Younis city, southern Gaza. [ source ]
• Israeli warplanes destroy the home of the Hessi family in Khan Younis refugee camp, southern Gaza. [ source ]
• Palestinians rescue a girl from the rubble of her home that was bombed by Israeli warplanes. [ source ]
• Civil defense crews rescue a number of residents and evacuate bodies of martyrs from the rubble of a home in Shejaeya neighborhood, east of Gaza. [ source ]
• Over 100 Palestinians were killed since the end of the temporary ceasefire in Gaza, today. [ source ]
• Medics are dealing with 'large numbers' of wounded Palestinians seeking treatment in overcrowded hospitals following the resumption of Israeli air strikes on Gaza, says Gaza's health ministry. [ source ]
• A little child tries to calm down his baby brother after they were injured by an air strike in Gaza. [ source ]
• A series of heavy Israeli air strikes bombed several sites in southern Gaza Strip. [ source ]
• Palestinian children bid farewell to their father who was killed by Israeli bombardment in Khan Younis. [ source ]
• A fire broke out following the bombing of Jabalia refugee camp with white phosphorus. [ source ]
• Israel preventing aid trucks from entering Gaza via Rafah border crossing, PRCS says [ source ]
• A child was injured by the Israeli occupation bombing of Abu Nada family home in Al-Jeneina neighborhood, east of Rafah. [ source ]
• The ministry of health says in a statement that 178 Palestinians have been killed and 589 injured since morning. [ source ]
• The Gaza Strip has been under “relentless Israeli bombardment”. [ source ]
• The Palestinian Red Crescent Society says Israeli forces have informed 'all organisations and entities' operating at the Rafah crossing that the entry of aid trucks to Gaza is 'prohibited, starting from today' and until further notice. [ source ]
• The Israeli warplanes carried out a series of heavy air strikes on Gaza city. [ source ]
This list is not exhaustive. There are bodies under the rubble, missing from the death count, there are stories of atrocities gone unreported. Let that sink in, that this is not even the full extent of what has occurred since the truce agreement expired. The children of Gaza have gone back to living in fear, constantly hearing the sounds of warplanes over their heads. The people of Gaza have gone back to expecting to die.
It is far from time to lose steam. This is not over just because the bombing stopped for a week. The genocide continues and has been ramped up. Do not stop talking about Palestine. Do not stop bearing witness to what is happening. Do not stop demanding that it ends.

This man messaged me on Twitter asking me to reblog his fundraiser and I saw he had a new account, so I was a bit suspicious, and asked him to write my name in the sand outside the front of the tent he had in his photo to prove he was real and in Gaza. I didn't expect to hear anything else.
He did it. And in the recording he sent with it, you can hear the warplanes/drones overhead. He is in Gaza, he's real and he needs our help.
Here's his story:
I went from being a digital marketing student to an ice cream vendor due to the lack of job opportunities, then to a prisoner in the hands of the Israeli occupation forces. My name is Abdulrahman Mushtaha, a 21-year-old from Rafah city in southern Gaza Strip, where the Israeli occupation sent me after more than 25 days of detention. This might be just a number to you, but during this time, I experienced some of the worst forms of torture and humiliation from soldiers and recruits not older than twenty. All of this because of my nationality. Maybe I would have stayed in northern Gaza, enduring 100 days without seeing my mother's face, kissing my father's hand, or playing with my two-year-old nephew. 100 days without hugging my sister Heba, who is starving in northern Gaza due to the occupation army besieging their house for more than 50 days. Now, Abdulrahman is without university, without a job at the ice cream shop, and without shelter. Perhaps with your simple help, I can return to life? Perhaps your simple donation could be a chance for me to survive, if life remains, maybe with your help, I can save my mother, father, my nephew, and whoever is left of my family. Help me rebuild my life at my beautiful city that the occupation has turned into a ghost town.:
If you've got some spare money, send it his way. It'll go to someone who really needs it.

I hope you'll let me tell you a little bit about my home🇵🇸, Gaza🍉. It's a place where we're living through some very challenging times💔🥹. We're under attack from bombs, explosives, and warplanes, and we've had to endure many nights of sleeplessness. It's a difficult situation💔, but we're trying to stay positive🖤. This war has really taken a toll on us. It's destroyed our bodies, our lives, and our souls. It has been so sad to see our homes destroyed, our belongings taken from us, and our beautiful places ruined. It has also changed our situation for the worse. We were living a pretty good life, you know? Peaceful, loving, and full of life. But then, we found ourselves in a really tough spot. Hunger, fear, and terror have become our new normal. My kids and I, along with my extended family, are struggling to make ends meet. We don't have the basic necessities of life, and our living situation is pretty rough. We're in these old, falling-apart tents. It's so hard to know what to do when winter comes. We'll be soaked in the rain and wind, and I'll be at a loss as to how to keep my family safe, from the bombing and from the winter.🥹
I'm really hoping you can help me and my family to live through this awful war.💔🥹🍉

I will open my heart to you.. but
Oh Lord.. Oh Allah, make fun of every one who loves you.. and hopes to meet you to enter him into Paradise.. And I also hope that you will feel our suffering and feel what we are experiencing from your hearts, because we die every day and you will not feel it because you are not living with the same pain and suffering.
You will say, I swear, I feel sorry for you. You are sincere and sensitive, and you see our suffering on television.
But we have tasted bitterness, injustice and oppression, and what oppresses you is that most of your followers do not read all my words and do not feel all the pain you go through.
Do you know what pain and suffering is?
We live and do not know our fate, and every day the Israeli army throws leaflets at us from its warplanes to evacuate our places. We were displaced 7 times, and each displacement incurs great expenses and a new tent when you escape without it.
Do you know what Azma’s suffering is, and I would like to ask you... The tent that we make to cover your household and family... Do you think it covers our hardships? The answer is no, no. Our tents are set up in the street and are exposed to all passersby.
I am now crying, and I and my young son are in the hospital, and my son is receiving treatment because he inserted an ear cleaning tool and inserted it so much that it pierced his eardrum and he caused severe bleeding from his ear, and all of this is because of displacement and war 😭😭
It was late, and the hospital was 4 kilometers away from me, so I carried my son and went on foot, and the warplanes were bombing the Nuseirat camp, as the direction to the hospital was from the same road.
I want to ask you: How do you feel when you are afraid for your son, and you are walking a long road, amid heavy bombardment?
I hope you watch the two video clips, which explain in detail our suffering, as the first video is for my 7-year-old daughter, who dreams and makes one wish: that you feel us and stand with us.
The second clip explains the suffering we are experiencing in detail, and shows the suffering of the tents.. and my wife preparing fresh bread.. and I was lighting fires to prepare food while my children were next to me.
Feel for us from your heart... Donate generously and ease our pain so we can travel and live a safe life, I hope you share it strongly so that the world can see the suffering we are experiencing.

A father's plea for peace for his children and his sick wife
Imagine a world where instead of raindrops falling from the sky, bombs rain down, and instead of soothing lullabies, the sound of warplanes fills the air. This is the harsh reality that my children, Mounir (6 years old) and Siraj (4 years old), and my wife, who is suffering from cancer, live in. We live in Gaza, a place where hope seems to be fading.
I am Mohammed, Rawaa’s husband, and I feel the heavy burden of ensuring a better future for them.
The war took my job, our home, the very essence of our existence. We are now living in makeshift tents, sharing what little we have in this besieged land. However, in the midst of all this devastation, my wife's illness bothers me greatly because there is no treatment for it.
Friends in Egypt have offered us a chance to escape this nightmare, but the path to safety is blocked by a daunting barrier: the border crossing demands $5,000 for each life to pass through.
I plead with you, don't let my children become victims of war.
Your contribution, no matter how small, could be the key to unlocking a future free from fear and filled with opportunities. Your assistance could mean the difference between life and death for my family. With your help, we can secure safe passage out of Gaza and begin the journey toward a better future. A future where peace and prosperity prevail.
Thanks for your support, and I'm grateful for any help you can give me during this difficult time.

Among car enthusiasts of a certain persuasion, there exists a yearning that cannot be satisfied by regular automakers. The hoi polloi are perfectly happy with their normal, pedestrian automobiles. The elites opt for penis-shaped zoom-zooms that cost more than a house. Those of us in the middle, who have an eternal love for going very fast for very little money, are abandoned. And as we all know, being in the self-described middle is the same thing as being morally correct at all times.
Back in the 50s, people really wanted to go fast for no money. It's what started the whole world of hot rodding. And they had lots of good options, thanks to the government suddenly having a ton of warplanes that weren't currently engaged in a war. Cool plane superchargers, engines, belly tanks – anything that weird nerds could get their hands on – got shoved into cars in the quest to go fast. And automakers were run by those weird nerds, back then.
Sure, a lot of them were putatively "run" by big-dollar, humanity-crushing fascists, but the real fun, in the research and development divisions? That was happening with the same hot rodder nutjobs who would go down to the beach after work and do skids in a car mostly made out of a bathtub, until the cops showed up. And in the late 50s, what those very same nutjobs were excited about were turbines.
See, turbine engines were getting exciting then. It was the jet age. Clean, efficient, very loud, screaming jets. Not inefficient, old clangy pistons with their oiled bearings and pitiful triple-digit horsepower. No, it was time to go fast, and so they dutifully started cramming turbines into street cars. Did it make sense? No. Were any of these cars even close to being practical? Absolutely not. Was it completely bad-ass? Yes.
Unfortunately, it was at this time that the nascent development of "management science" began to metastasize in the Western world. A lot of bosses came down and saw a screaming, shrieking demon burning nineteen litres of gasoline per minute, bolted loosely into a Ford Deluxe Coupe, and they asked: how many cupholders this got? Not having a sufficient answer that didn't start with "fuck you," these same bosses then began dismantling the apparatus that held a promise of a glorious, high-pitched-whining future of thirty-thousand-rpm engines.
There is still hope. For instance, things containing turbines get crashed all the time. Once the FAA is done looking at them to figure out what they fucked up (usually: aircraft contacted the earth too soon,) they don't really pay too much attention to what happens to the carcass. If you're quick, you can cut through the fence and get ahold of your very own helicopter turbine with which to start the project. And what do you use to slice through that fence and retrieve your futurist prize? A thirty-thousand-rpm battery-operated cut-off wheel, of course. Thanks, weird nerds.

In these harrowing moments, Jabalia Refugee Camp is under relentless assault. Israeli military tanks and aircraft are bombing the area of Sala Mazaya and Riyadh Al-Salihin, where our family home stands. A place once filled with beautiful memories is now a scene of destruction. They are not only demolishing the walls and stones, but also our dreams, our childhood, and every joyful moment we've ever had.
My relatives and neighbors are trapped inside their homes, unable to escape. They are pleading for help from the Red Cross, but no one can reach them because the army is everywhere, and the streets are soaked in blood and littered with bodies. The sky is dark, lit by the flames of warplanes circling above. These drones are hunting anything that moves, even in the narrow alleys.
I spoke to my loved ones, and fear echoed in their voices as if they were saying their final goodbyes. They are speaking from beneath the shadow of death, from the heart of this nightmare, and you now have the chance to witness death through the eyes of the victims. The sound of explosions is deafening, the sky is an orange blaze, and the chaos feels like the edge of the apocalypse. Women and children roam the streets, unsure where to go, their eyes filled with despair and terror.
This crime being committed against our people is a crime against humanity, against all of our feelings and dreams. We are not just numbers or names on a screen. We are people with hopes, emotions, and a longing for a dignified life.
In this critical time, we need your voice and support more than ever. Do not stop speaking about the atrocities being committed against the Palestinian people. Share this message, spread it across every platform. We need your donations, your solidarity, and for our voices not to be forgotten.
Every share and every donation is a step towards saving lives.

For a long time now, Samah and her family have not been able to enjoy living in a house. They are from Jabalia, and their home has been destroyed by Israeli warplanes.
I've been talking to Samah ( @samah-h ) who is verified by Bilal ( @bilal-salah0 ). I'm going to be blunt: she needs to raise another $5,000 to help with her 2 year old daughter. Right now, the Rafah crossing is closed—but that doesn't mean that our donations don't make a difference. If we need money in our every day, how much more so must people surviving a genocide? As Samah has written on Tumblr, the cost of living and basic survival needs is high. Her daughter (and Samah and the rest of her family!) needs warm clothes and basic healthcare. Samah also has a newborn, who requires infant formula and diapers.
Not only does Samah have children of her own, but her husband is now responsible for three of his siblings. One of those siblings has a child of their own. They have been displaced multiple times, and are still in constant danger. Bombings, airstrikes, and snipers make life extremely perilous for Samah and her family.
Not only that, but as I said before, their home was destroyed!!! They live in tents now, and winter is fast approaching. It will be the rainy season in Palestine soon, and while most of us can listen to the rain from the comfort of our homes, Samah is forced to endure these conditions in a tent. Fall, winter, summer, fall, and soon winter again. They've been exposed to immense heat and immense cold, with no insulation but a tarp.
Disease is also rampant in Gaza due to the unsanitary conditions created by the genocide. Not only that, Samah was forced to give birth without anesthesia in deplorable conditions!!! Keep in mind that Samah has three young children, and children are often sick at the best of times. Donation money can also go towards healthcare.
Our donations can help provide basic living materials that Samah desperately needs. And when the Rafah crossing reopens, they will need money in order to leave for Egypt.
As of now, 39 people have recently donated to her campaign—let's raise that number!!
$5,816 / $10,000

✅️Vetted by @gazavetters, my number verified on the list is ( #373 )✅️
I'm really hoping you can help me and my family to live through this awful war.💔🥹🍉
