Italy has been their safe space. 

These past couple of months have been nothing but the bliss and relaxation that they’ve been needing for the past two years of being on tour—for the past 14 years of their career in the band. This is by far the longest break they’ve taken from performing on stage, interviews—from the rest of the world.

Since going on their second honeymoon, the couple has kept a low profile traveling to some of their favorite places: walking along the beaches in Jamaica, getting tipsy at their favorite karaoke bars (before they got pregnant) in Tokyo, and going to see Swan Lake at the Royal Opera House in London.

But since discovering that baby Styles was growing in YN’s belly, they’ve decided to momentarily pause their travels in Rome. When the time comes, they’ll travel back to England where their baby will be born. Their baby is an Englishman, through and through.

Being the dutiful husband that he is, Harry has been running errands while his wife sits at home to keep her growing belly away from the watchful eyes of paps and fans, seems like a must. Still undecided about when to share their news with the rest of the world, YN keeps herself busy with things like making music or reading to her belly.

She humors Harry with her pregnancy milestones. Like the time she called him into the shower to let him know that she officially can’t see her toes anymore (which led him having to put her socks on for her). Or the time they were watching a movie on the couch and she suddenly wondered if she could still do the splits with her baby belly. He watched with a humored smile at her impromptu demonstration and laughed when she wondered if she could still twerk too. After finding out she still could, he told her to be careful because “that’s how you got pregnant in the first place.”

So as much as he doesn’t mind running errands, he can’t help but wish that his love was beside him. Call him lovesick, but when hasn’t he been?

Before he’s ready to take off, he taps his jean pockets before calling out to his wife, “Babe!”

“Yeah?” Her voice comes from somewhere upstairs.

“Have y’seen my keys?”

“Yeah, up here!”

When he enters their bedroom, he stops in his tracks. He sees her sitting on the end of the bed in a sports bar and her jeans unbuttoned as she bends over to tie her shoelaces—well, trying to.

“Hey, hey,” Harry quickly goes to her struggling fingers and begins tying the laces himself. “Be careful, my love. Squishing my baby in there.”

“Yeah well, tell yeh baby that is he could stop pressing down on me bladder,” YN plops down on the bed behind her with a huff, her arms spread out. “I’d really appreciate that.”

“She can’t help it, darlin’.” One of the many late night conversations (debates) they’ve been having lately is what they think their baby is going to be. Harry’s wishing for a girl while YN’s very adamant about them having a boy. “She’s growing big and strong in there,” He places his hands gently on her belly and coos, “It’s that right, my sweet girl?”

“Stop,” She laughs once his kisses on her taut skin begin to tickle from his facial hair. She pushes his head away with a playful shove, “Stop, you’re smothering him.”

Once he’s finished securing the laces into a bow, he stops to question, “You gonna take a walk around the garden again, baby?”

Being housebound by choice can come with its downsides. So to avoid the inevitable cabin fever that has already begun to bubble up inside of her, one of the ways she keeps herself sane is taking walks around their private villa. There’s truly nothing like strolling around the property filled with giant trees, bushes with various flowers growing the perimeter, and feeling the summer sun on her skin. 

The time off has been very much needed, but if she were speaking freely, she has to admit that she’s getting bored.

YN lifts up her hands towards her husband and he gently helps her stand up on her feet. 

“No. M’joining you today.”

Her words make him physically pause.

“You sure?” He hesitates. As much as the thought of having her by his side again excites him, nothing is more important than making sure that she’s comfortable. With her going out, it increases the possibility that someone can not only recognize the two, but figure out that her belly is getting bigger with their child growing. 

They aren’t ready to share the news with the rest of the world yet, but when they do find out, it's going to be on their terms.

“Yeah. I want to.” She puts her hands on her belly and the smile she gives him is enough reassurance, as is. “Wearing one of yeh hoodies can be big enough to cover him. And as long as I don’t hug anyone, I think I’ll be alright.”

He leans down to press a kiss to her lips, sealing the deal. Before he pulls away, he mumbles against her lips, “Her.”

“Just go get my bag, Styles,” she laughs, eyes squeezing shut when he feverishly presses kisses into the crook of her neck.

And oh how the fans immediately take notice—not of her belly, but of how sweet Harry’s being on her. It’s been a while since the people have seen him with his other half and if they didn’t know any better, it seemed like he hadn’t seen her altogether in weeks. He constantly has an arm around the tops of her shoulders and will press a kiss into her hair when walking down the cobblestone pathways. The one time he lets go of her hand is to buy her a small bouquet of flowers from the local vendor. And it would be silly of Harry not to see his wife’s pregnancy cravings kicking in when they pass by a gelato shop. And it would also be silly to be surprised when he has to switch cones with her when she suddenly likes his flavor better.

And there's something so glowly, so radiant about her that the people can't quite put their finger on it.

After putting their errand bags in the car—they almost forgot the reason for going out—Harry goes to open the door for his wife but pauses when he sees the look on her face. He sees how her eyes scan to somewhere in the distance with the tiniest furrow of her brows, her eyes beginning to squint. He doesn’t even try to hide the amused look on his face and instead leans a forearm on the vehicle as he patiently waits for what’s to come. Her nostrils widen a bit, “Do you smell pastrami?”

Harry can’t hold back his laugh. Being in shape for a two-year long world tour was a must. Since then, the couple has maintained a fairly healthy lifestyle—moreso Harry while YN still likes to enjoy a bit of junk food every now and then. Yet, it’s been a while since she’s indulged in something like a beefy, greasy sandwich. 

Yup, definitely pregnancy cravings.

The inevitable comes sooner than later as they turn their attention towards the two ladies saying their names. Harry—already taking in a breath to gently decline the request to take a picture with the two fans—is interrupted by YN’s sweet acceptance. 

The couple stands behind the two ladies as they take a group selfie. Thankfully, YN has her flowers to discreetly hold in front of her belly as she gives the camera a smile. But before they depart, YN asks them where’s the best place to get a pastrami sandwich in the area.

Yeah, pregnancy cravings for sure.

Rome’s Ancient Arch of Constantine Struck by Lightening

During a storm on September 3, lightning struck Rome’s Arch of Constantine, chipping the structure’s marble surface. The 1,700-year-old arch and its neighbor, the Colosseum, were two of several sites affected by the thunderstorm, which produced 2.36 inches of rain in less than an hour. Usually, the city sees a similar amount over the entire month of September.

“A lightning strike hit the arch right here and then hit the corner,” a tourist at the site told Reuters’ Alberto Lingria. “We saw this fly off,” the tourist added while pointing to a fallen block of stone.

Finished in 315 C.E., the Arch of Constantine is one of Rome’s three surviving ancient triumphal arches, each erected to honor a person or event. This arch commemorates Constantine I’s 312 victory over the emperor Maxentius. That same year, Constantine devoted himself to Christianity—the first Roman ruler to do so.

The fierce storm also felled two large trees near the Circus Maximus, flooded the Trevi Fountain and flooded the Colosseum’s subterranean tunnels, reports CNN. After lightning struck the arch, staff of the Colosseum Archaeological Park quickly gathered its dislodged pieces and placed them in a secure location, according to a statement from Italy’s Ministry of Culture.

In the days that followed, some tourists stumbled upon additional pieces on the ground.

​​“My American group found these fragments, and we’re handing them over to the workmen,” tour guide Serena Giuliani told the London Times’ Tom Kington on the morning of September 4.

Specialists are now examining the condition of the fragments. Officials say the damage was limited to the monument’s southern side, where unrelated restoration work had started just days earlier, allowing for quick repairs.

At roughly 70 feet tall and 85 feet wide, the Arch of Constantine contains three separate arches, each framed by columns. The intricately decorated structure is adorned with recycled fragments, or spolia, taken from other ancient buildings, including monuments honoring Trajan, Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius.

The arch is also decorated with carvings of Constantine, including a series of reliefs depicting his victorious fight against Maxentius in the Battle of the Milvian Bridge.

In 306, Constantine was leading Roman troops in Britain—then part of the Roman Empire—when his military declared him their emperor. His brother-in-law, Maxentius, also declared himself the emperor around the same time. After years of complex power struggles, the two rulers ultimately faced off in 312 at Rome’s Milvian Bridge, which overlooks the river Tiber. Panels on the Arch of Constantine depict the battle’s conclusion, showing Maxentius’ troops drowning in the river.

The arch’s recent encounter with lightning may have carried spiritual significance for its ancient builders, as “the bolts were believed to be the work of the gods,” per the Times. These spots were sacred for the Romans, who sometimes erected temples at such sites.

Y/n L/n is rarely seen walking the streets in public anymore, but that is changing following her recent breakup  from longtime love Charles Leclerc.

The 12-time Grammy winner was spotted out and about in Rome just one day after her release of her new single, Reckless, which reflects on her past relationship with the formula 1 driver.

L/n was joined by celebs friends Zendaya, Tom Holland, Sabrina Carpenter, Bella Hadid, and Alexa Demie for a night out at Shari Vari Play House in Vía de' Nari, Italy. 

The news of her breakup sent shockwaves on social media. Tweets and memes were made, with fans expressing their disbelief and grief

Rumors had already spread that Leclerc was seeing someone else the last few months of thosr relationship. L/n just made those rumors  official last night as she delivered a tribute to  Leclerc and his new girlfriend Australian Youtuber Lola Ransdell, sending the media to a frenzy. 

The “Karma” hitmaker opted for a dress from Mônot’s SS22 collection, a black dress with cutouts across the chest and stomach, leaving little fabric between L/n’s collarbone and lower waist.

People on twitter are already calling this “Y/n L/n’s Revenge Dress Era” .

Forty years he’s been alive, forty years today has Tommy been stumbling through life, and what does he have to show for it? Sure he has a house, hobbies, and a very select few friends but not much to show for these forty years. He’s lived longer than he expected, that could possibly be a bonus. But Tommy was lonely, this was even more evident as he sits alone in his dark house at night on his birthday with a pint of ice cream in hand. He hasn’t been able to bring himself to eat any real food, mostly sweets and the occasional bag of chips. Sleep didn’t really exist in this new chapter of Tommy Kinard. He tugs the old LAFD hoodie closer, inhaling its scent, Ev- Buck’s scent.

God he’s gotta stop doing that. It’s Buck now, just Buck.

What a birthday this turned out to be. Tommy’s mind wandered to his mother a lot today, he officially outlived her today. His mother never had the fortune of living to the age of 40, he didn’t know how to feel about it to be perfectly honest. His mind spinned from the memory of that day, the day he lost her.

Picking up the remote, Tommy raises the volume of the tv hoping the voices of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck push away the memories of his past, recent and decades old that haunt every fiber of his being. Tommy slumps down further onto the couch as the two old Hollywood stars toured the ever so beautiful Rome. For decades Roman Holiday was his go to comfort movie, that was until he stumbled upon Love, Actually. His father called him a pussy for it but it was his mother’s favorite. He didn’t watch it much after his mother passed but on nights when his father went on another drinking bender Tommy would search the channels for this old romantic comedy, every so often luck would be on his side with it airing on one of the channels. He probably should have known he was gay a lot sooner with how mesmerized he was with the effortlessly handsome Gregory Peck.

Knock knock knock.

Startled, Tommy snapped back to the present, a pit forming in his stomach. Why does he feel nauseous? He shouldn’t feel nauseous. God he hopes it isn’t Ev-

God the knocking isn’t stopping, whom ever it is better have a good fucking reason to bother Tommy this late into the night. Tommy slams the pint of ice cream down onto the coffee table and walks down the hall to the front door, his feet pounding on the antique hardwood floors. Tommy grabs the doorknob to swing open the front door.

“Oh my fucking God will you please sto-... Howie?”

On his porch stood Howie Han, his hand raised from the knocking, the other holding a mysterious white box that Tommy’s eyes immediately landed on.

“Oh good you're awake,” Howie says with a stern look on his face.

W-what are you-”

And more importantly what is inside that box?

Before he could finish what he was saying, Howie brushes past him with the box, knocking against Tommy’s shoulder.

“Man you really screwed the pooch didn’t you?” Howie asked.

Tommy follows him down to the kitchen and watches as Howie places the box on the island, Howie looks at him, his eyebrows knitted with concern.

What is inside that box? It takes everything to not immediately grab it to see what it holds.

“Tommy what happened? I mean Buck hasn’t said all that much, which is unusual for him, but this… it all seems out of nowhere.”

Tommy’s mouth goes dry, his mind trying to spin the right words to say. Howie’s eyes gleamed at him with genuine worry. He can’t take it, darting his eyes away from Howie.

“There is not much to talk about, it’s over.”

“Are you sure it’s over? It doesn’t seem over-over Tommy, not with you wearing that, don’t think I didn’t notice that.”

Fuck! Tommy completely forgot about the hoodie with big large red letters spelling out the name Buckley right in his back. He really should give it back. Is his stuff in that box? No, no, too small.

“It’s none of your concern Howie,” Tommy snaps.

“It kind of is since ya know… he’s my brother in law.”

Tommy presses his lips together.

“What’s in that?” Tommy points to the white box near Howie.

He looks down nearly forgetting it was there to begin with, “Oh right, here. Happy Birthday” Howie slides the box down the countertop to Tommy.

Tommy lifts up the lid to reveal a homemade coconut cream cake resting inside, the sweet aromas bringing Tommy to the verge of tears. His favorite, the one his mother would make for him on his birthday. He remembered telling Buck about the cake his mother used to make when Buck started up baking shortly after they started dating. Buck was always a chef but baking was a bit more, newer.

“Buck made this?”

“Yeah he did - God he was right when he said you saying Buck was weird - he told me to give it to you tonight.”

Tommy stares down at the cake, a wave of emotions overwhelming him. Buck made this for him? On his birthday? What was Buck playing at? He didn’t deserve this, not after everything…

“You have time to fix this Tommy,” Howie says “He misses you, a-and I know he would take you back if you would just-”

“It is over Howie!” Tommy has had enough, “It’s over, it’s done, there is no going back!”

Tears start to spill down his cheeks.

“Tommy…”

He bangs his fist onto the counter startling Howie.

“P-Please just leave.”

Howie nods slowly leaving the kitchen, he stops short not looking back at Tommy. “I will be back, I am not letting you build up those walls again, Kinard, not on my watch.”

Tommy listens as Howie’s footsteps walk further down the hall and the click of the door closes behind. A stifled sob echoes through the house as Tommy buries his face in his hands.

Happy fucking Birthday indeed.

"Ancient World Fantasy" Reading List

(A little context to start. If you just want book recs, scroll on down to the first image.)

As I’ve been getting into RuneQuest (Wikipedia link), one striking component of the culture and community surrounding the game is that they’re very into the lore of its fictional world, Glorantha. I’m saying this as a comparison to a game like D&D, where the game is spread across tons of settings with no real sense of obligation to keep things in line with earlier editions.

Glorantha’s canon and worldbuilding has been going on since it was published in 1978 without, as far as I can tell, any big reboots. Which means that, unlike D&D, where people are bringing in all kinds of influences and doing direct adaptions of Jane Austen books and whatever, the RuneQuest game remains pretty tightly tied to the original setting. (There have been some exceptions. But not many!)

But since I run games for people who have ADHD or aren’t interested in studying up, I’ve been looking at all kinds of inspiration to drop into the game. Here are 20 novels that are roughly “ancient world” or “Bronze Age” like RuneQuest and deal with people interacting with strange gods, tight communities, and a world without fast overland travel or transferal of information.

I’m presenting them alphabetically by author’s last name.

The Brazen Gambit, Cinnabar Shadows, The Rise and Fall of a Dragon King by Lynn Abbey

I'm sorry for starting this post off with licensed RPG novels, but these are good! And I don't mean "good for licensed RPG novels." I've read tons of them, and most are so bad! But these are actually fun. Good character development in a sword-and-sorcery world. It's also an ecological apocalypse world, with godlike beings oppressing common folks, leading to a lack of technological advancement and knowledge of the past.

The Long Ships by Frans G. Bentsson

Written in the 1940s as a series of novellas, these stories take you on a tour of the Viking-era world, from Europe to the Middle East and beyond. Like a bunch of books on this list, this places them post-Bronze Age, so they're not officially "ancient world." But it gives a big spread of cultures, from the more clan-based Vikings to the bustling metropolises of Turkey. And it doesn't place any of them on any kind of linear advancement scale or whatever other gross way people "rate" cultures.

Tales of Nevèrÿon and Neveryóna by Samuel R. Delany

The master of weird sci-fi and gay historical novels, Chip Delany also wrote a fantasy epic. And it rules! Set on pre-historical(ish) Earth, these books describe the stories that maybe inform the myths we tell today? Dragons and slave revolts! A sort of "What if Game of Thrones was good?" series. Lots of good stuff about how people learn and how understanding expands.

I'm not listing the third book only because it's also a historical look at New York during the AIDS epidemic. It's an amazing book! But it strays from the "ancient world" aesthetic.

Baudolino by Umberto Eco

Another novel expressly set after the Bronze Age (this one starts in the 12th century). BUT it's about Medieval people's interaction with the knowledge they inherited from the past, specifically the myth of Prester John and the works of Herodotus.

I think I keep putting books like this on the list because roleplaying in a fantastical ancient world is not too far off from how Medieval people might have worshipped and referenced works from ancient Rome and non-European places.

Black Leopard, Red Wolf and Moon Witch, Spider King by Marlon James

One of our best living writers! These are fantasy novels expressly set in a fantastical version of ancient/Medieval Africa. The books explore the same events from multiple points of view and are full of cool magic, awesome spirit combat, and a vast number of places and cultures that actively deconstructs most games's portrayal of fantasy Africa as a homogeneous place.

The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth

I think Kingsnorth has been outted as a sort of eco-fascist? I totally believe it, so feel free to skip this one. It's a historical novel set in England in 1066, as the Normans invade from France. It's written in a faux Middle English language and focuses on the lower classes and how they try to resist the invasion. A good reminder that "Medieval culture" (and especially the Renaissance as a time that "culture advanced") is often based on certain classes of society, such as rich people and/or men.

Iceland's Bell by Halldór Laxness

Speaking of how class intersects with technological advancement, this book is set in the 18th century, but it focuses on Iceland at a time when it was ruled by Denmark, and the lower classes there were under an enforced poverty. It's a book about how a rich Icelander was trying to recover the stories of his people in order to create a sense of national identity and resistance. But it's also a story about how a destitute man acts like a total weirdo when he's not allowed to fish in his own waters and is cut off from understanding his place in history.

The Raven Tower by Anne Leckie

A big part of RuneQuest is people interacting with and enacting their gods. That's what this book is about! And it's about the strange vertigo that comes to people when they try to interact with the impossible timelines that gods exist on. Very good stuff.

Night's Master and Death's Master by Tanith Lee

Ostensibly set on Earth back when it was flat and demons roamed the world, which is basically RuneQuest. Sort of like a series of hornier, gay bibles? With lots of gender fuckery, fun sex, and cool monsters.

Circe by Madeline Miller

The story of the witch from The Odyssey, told from her point of view. Beautiful prose, tragic and beautiful characters, and a great share of mythical strangeness. Perfect if you want to learn how to run NPCs that are adversaries without being shallowly evil.

Ronia, the Robber's Daughter by Astrid Lindgren

Semi-Medieval again, but low class and vague enough that it could exist throughout ancient history. The daughter of a robber grows up in a tower full of robbers and generally has a wonderful time. Lots of weird monsters live in the woods, and there's a great starcrossed romance with someone from a rival robber gang. Perfect inspiration if you're running some cattle-raiding runs in RuneQuest; this is how to make robbers fun and sympathetic.

Read the book, watch the 1984 Swedish movie (which includes a great comedic scene of full-frontal dudity), and then watch the Studio Ghibli series.

A Stranger in Olondria and The Winged Histories by Sofia Samatar

Set in a world of pepper farmers and religious fanatics who worship a mysterious inscribed stone, these books do a great job of showing how people might interact with religion, rival cults, and mystery rites. It also portrays literacy and learning to read in places where it's gated behind social gatekeeping. And once again, the prose is beautiful.

The Palm-Wine Drinkard by Amos Tutuola

The first African novel published in English outside of Africa, The Palm-Wine Drinkard is a funny, hallucinogenic story about getting drunk, stumbling through weird landscapes, and encountering fantastical spirits and people.

Tutuola also wrote My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, the inspiration for the famous(?) David Byrne/Brian Eno album. I haven't read it yet, but I'm keeping an eye out!

The Green Pearl by Jack Vance

This is a sequel to Lyonesse, which I haven't read because I love staring in the middle of things. Set around a mythical British Isles when Atlantis was still above the sea and part of the group of islands. Some great wizard shit, warring clans, romance, and a wizard whose name is fucking Shimrod (in case you need more convincing).

Like a lot of us, Carlo Acutis spent an ungodly amount of his life staring at screens. Born in London in 1991, he grew up an only child in a newly connected world. He wore sweatshirts and Nike trainers. He played Halo and taught himself to code. But that’s where the similarities end—because next year, Acutis will officially be named a saint.

As well as the internet, Acutis revered another institution: the Catholic Church. From a young age, he was acutely interested in Eucharistic miracles—extraordinary events which, according to Catholics, see consecrated bread or wine suddenly become the actual body or blood of Christ. “To always be united to Jesus: This is my life plan,” he told his mother after his First Communion.

In 2004, Acutis started to research Eucharistic miracles from around the world, developing a website to document them. His aim was to connect with other young Catholics. “He was personally convinced that the scientific evidence would help people … come back to Mass,” says Courtney Mares, author of Blessed Carlo Acutis: A Saint in Sneakers and Rome correspondent for the Catholic News Agency.

The online archive was unveiled in October 2006, a simple build with cursive text and religious imagery. But just a few days after it launched, Acutis fell ill. He was diagnosed with leukemia, with little chance of recovery. “Death has become the passage towards life,” he told his mother, before falling into a coma, suffering a brain hemorrhage, and passing away. He was just 15.

His spirit lived on. The website he’d built helped introduce Eucharistic miracles to a mass audience across the globe and was translated into 17 languages. A physical exhibition linked to Acutis’ work has toured internationally, being shown in thousands of parishes worldwide. It’s still touring now. Acutis is revered not just for his use of technology, but also his dedication to living virtuously. “I think that prayer was truly the great secret of his saintly life,” Mares says. But the website was key to creating a halo effect, heightening his reputation as a blessed figure.

In 2012, the Archdiocese of Milan—where Acutis’ family had moved when he was a child—started a cause for canonization, paving the way for sainthood. Unbeknown to most secular folk, saints are still made regularly; Pope Francis has recognized a record 912 since 2013. But becoming one, as the cliché goes, requires patience. The original petitioner appoints a postulator to collect evidence of the candidate’s sacred work (the “devil’s advocate” used to be a real antithesis to this occupation, arguing against sainthood).

“The process of identifying someone as a saint is long and careful and quite bureaucratic,” says Tim Hutchings, associate professor of religious ethics at the University of Nottingham. “It starts when some Catholics decide that they really think someone should be a saint. They start a campaign to prove to their local bishop that this person lived an incredibly holy life, or died for their faith.”

After being named a "Servant of God" in 2013, Acutis reached the second rung on the ladder to sainthood when he was venerated by Pope Francis in 2018. His body was exhumed and brought to a tomb in Assisi where he still lies today, dressed in his trademark '90s teenager garb. “It’s a beautiful thing that for the first time in history you can see a saint dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a sweatshirt. That’s a great message,” Father Carlos Acácio Gonçalves Ferreira, the shrine’s rector, said at the time. A Franciscan monk based at the tomb, noted that “many young people” were visiting.

Next, Acutis and his followers needed a literal miracle—one he had performed himself. “It has to be something which can't be scientifically explained, so proving this is difficult. For example, this might require doctors to confirm that they can't explain how a healing has occurred,” Hutchings says. In 2013 a woman in Brazil claimed that praying to Acutis had helped heal her son’s pancreatic defect. In 2020 Pope Francis authenticated the miracle and Acutis was beatified, culminating in a ceremony celebrating his virtuous life. “According to Google Trends, more people were searching for information about Carlo Acutis than about the Pope,” Mares notes.

Then, in May 2024, a second miracle was recognized, involving the healing of a 21-year-old girl from Costa Rica injured in a bike accident. In 2022, her mother had knelt at Acutis' grave and prayed for his help. Her daughter then miraculously resumed breathing without support and made a full recovery. The Pope approved Acutis’ canonization in July—with an official ceremony set for 2025.

It’s rare for a saint to be so young and unheard of, and still reach this lofty status so soon after their death. “It is remarkable that Carlo Acutis will be canonized so close to the date that he was born. For context, of the 912 saints canonized by Pope Francis, the next most recent birth date was in 1926,” Mares says. It makes him the first ever millennial saint and, as some Catholics have put it, “God’s influencer” and the “patron saint of the internet.”

Meanwhile, the cult of Carlos Acutis is continuing to spread across the world. Relics, including a piece of the sheet that shrouded his corpse, a fragment of one of his sweatshirts, and his actual heart, have toured internationally, recently coming to the UK for the New Dawn Catholic Pilgrimage. Online, you can buy Carlo Acutis figurines, rosary beads, posters, and commemorative keychains. In North Lanarkshire, Scotland, a life-size statue of Acutis has been erected at Carfin Grotto, and there’s a stained-glass window in Wiltshire to attract young churchgoers.

There's even a comic book telling his story, and a VR experience offering players a chance to step into Acutis’ sneakers. And, for Catholics who are unable to pay their respects in person, his tomb can be visited (and donated to) virtually through an always-on livestream.

The Church doesn’t pick saints—campaigns start with the Catholic community—but Acutis’ popularity meshes with its desire for a young role model. It also highlights the Church’s embrace of tech. “The Pope has been making an annual lecture about communications technology for 58 years,” says Hutchings. “It absolutely makes sense for Catholics to look for a saint of the internet who represents the godly and faithful use of technology.”

There is, of course, still a stigma surrounding the internet’s potential for blasphemous behavior. “The Pope has warned that today’s digital age constantly tempts young people to ‘self-absorption, isolation, and empty pleasure,’” Mares says. And some devout Catholics are still struggling with temptation. “With technology changing at such a rapid pace today, many Christians are still grappling with how best to live out their faith in the world of laptops, cell phones, and social media,” Mares says.

But the Pope also called the internet a “gift from God” in 2014, and he recognizes its potential for spreading the word of Christ—it just depends on how it is applied. And in the case of Acutis, tech was used in a pious way. “Acutis used the new technology in exactly the way that the Church wants to see it used: to promote commitment to Catholic teaching, virtuous living, and devotion to the rituals of the local church,” Hutchings explains. The Church will hope that the relatable “saint in sneakers” who watched cartoons and surfed the web will resonate with a community looking for an idol.

For the ask game: Tour guide Buck, Traveler Tommy AU? 😀

Buck is a tour guide that takes groups through Europe. Tommy, having recently hit his midlife crisis, quits his job and joins one of Buck's tours

Tommy immediately falls for Buck's enthusiam about the history of the places they go and makes an effort to ask him questions. Buck is thrilled that someone actually is paying attention to him and the two become fast friends.

Tommy takes Buck out for dinner when they're in Rome, and they have a Lady and the Tramp moment with the pasta. They end the evening walking hand-in-hand along the Tiber River.

They become unofficially official after that night, and hit 8 more countries in the tour. Buck manages to convince Tommy to join him in all the high octane adrenaline junkie activities, until they reach London, the final stop.

Tommy convinces Buck to come back to the USA with him, where they buy an RV and travel the country for another 6 months. They eventually settle in LA, where they buy an apartment. Buck gets a job as a guide at a museum and Tommy becomes a pilot. They decorate their apartment with momentos from their travels.

Okay hi!!! Hope we are all sprightly and thriving. I just felt it's time to weigh in with my unnecessary opinion of who in BTS would get married first - I believe it would be JK. I mean, he's a lover boy pro max, and will be soooo whipped for his partner that he'll try to make things official ASAP cz like he's just that badly waiting to start a life with them! (Not that your life is on pause without marriage or single, but when in Rome-)

Like he would be someone who would love for people to go like "oh look, S/O's husband is here" and being recognised like that would make him so giddy and probably make him fall even more in love! Imagine that shy, babygirl smile he would have every time (at least for the first few months) his partner called him or introduced him as their husband!! And he'd be putty if his partner used it in a personal conversation, in bed or out of it. YKWIM?

S/O sighs and nods. "Okay baby. See you later. I just thought it would be nice to spend a Sunday cuddled in with my husband."

His best bet is hoping S/O doesn't misuse the power the word holds once they discover its effects.

Day 5 Aleheather Week 2024

Day five, November 15th- Kiss/anniversary

For the 11th anniversary of Aleheather's first kiss in the World Tour finale (in the U. S at least), create something that has to do with them kissing OR celebrating their anniversary.

“You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.”

Heather droned as she removed her sunglasses and stared into the gorgeous, sunny paradise known as Hawaii. The pristine beaches greeted her as she stepped off the airport, and ladies welcomed them with smiles and flower necklaces. “What the hell, Alejandro?” She never imagined in all her wildest dreams Alejandro would plan their one year anniversary to take place here of all places.

“You don’t like it?” Alejandro asked, eyes half-lidded.

“It’s not that. I don’t… dislike it, per se.” Heather replied wearily. “I thought, given what happened between us here and what happened to you afterwards you’d want nothing to do with the place.”

“That’s precisely why I did it, mi amor.” Alejandro held her hands. “This is where our first kiss took place!”

“...” Heather narrowed her eyes. “Our relationship became official in the Yukon - are you gonna plan an anniversary to take place there as well?”

“Don’t tempt me; or else one day I might!” Alejandro teased. “Point being, while this place holds bad memories for both of us, it also holds great significance in our relationship. This is where it all went down! Our first kiss. When we professed our love for each other on national television on top of a volcano. And the finale of a lifetime!”

“I don’t think it was as dramatic as you’re making it out to be.” Heather murmured.

“Then I suppose we remember things quite differently.” Alejandro said breezily. “Think about it, I planned for our anniversary to take place here so we can replace the bad memories we have with good ones! What’s better than that?”

“Rome. Paris. Vienna. Athens. Florencia. Barcelona… just to name a few, and those were all from the top of my head.” Heather trailed off.

Alejandro gave her a hard stare. “We’ll get to those eventually down the line. For now… Let’s enjoy our time here, shall we? No better time than the present.”

Heather pursed her lips thoughtfully. “Well… Hawaii is pretty.” She conceded with a shy hint of a smile. “Alright. Let’s do a do-over!”

“That’s the spirit!” Alejandro nudged her heartily. “Let’s go check in at the hotel. I’ve got a big day planned for us!”

“You better.”

And what a perfect day it was. Alejandro booked them a stay at a four star hotel with a front facing view of the coast. Next, they went sightseeing around town and did some window shopping for the following day. And later on in the evening Alejandro had made reservations for them to go and have dinner at an exclusive restaurant with a one-of-a-kind tasting menu experience, lit with candles and starlight, within view of the very same volcano they once climbed atop of so long ago.

“Happy anniversary, mi amor.” Alejandro lifted his wine glass. “A toast… to our wonderful union.”

“To us!” Heather clinked her glass together with his.

how RomanLukas handle jealousy?

To be honest I think they’d both be an absolute nightmare when jealous! They're both so needy. But they’d only pull the jealously card when they’re first trying to get together, there’s no need when they both realise that they only have eyes for each other. 

For Lukas I can see him poking Roman a little bit, maybe by mentioning Shiv or talking about an ex, but not too much. He wants to know that Roman is into him, like really into him, but he’s also aware that Rome still hasn’t fully accepted who he is yet. Trying to make him jealous on top of everything else would send him running for the hills. 

Roman on the other hand would find being able to make Lukas jealous pretty thrilling. Lukas gets a little nutty when he’s jealous, he tries not to be but there’s something about Roman talking to other guys that gets him all riled up. Unable to help himself, Roman throws himself into flirting with disgraced presidential candidate Mencken. He’s never had this type of control over another person before and he can’t seem to help himself. It’s kind of fun watching Lukas get increasingly wound up. 

But inevitably he takes it too far and ends up hurting Lukas’ feelings, badly. Now he’s got a sad Swede moping around all over the place, making Roman feel all his stupid feelings and realise that he’s potentially fucked everything up. Initially he tries to gloss over everything so they can go back to sending each other dumb memes, playing video games all night and being weirdos together. Except Lukas barely responds which frustrates Roman because now he has to actually go and apologise and take responsibility for once. Impulse takes over and before he’s even thought anything through, he’s on a PJ to Tokyo where Lukas has gone on a business trip. Except when he lands Roman realises that he has no clue where Lukas is, let alone what hotel he’s in. He ends up texting Shiv to beg for assistance but she can only give him the street name so he ends up trudging around five different hotels before he gets the right one.

The receptionist eventually takes pity on him after Roman tearfully explains that he can’t call Lukas to tell him he’s here because he’s supposed to be apologising and needs to say it in person. After a quick text from Oskar, she lets him into Lukas room where Roman intends to stay awake and practice his apology in the mirror with the note cards he brought with him so he wouldn’t forget anything. Lukas returns hours later to find Roman passed out on his bed surrounded by his apology notecards looking travel worn and exhausted. Instead of waking him up, or asking what he’s doing here, Lukas throws a blanket over the pair of them and falls asleep.
