More sketchy employee profile images. Mostly made to be able to replace the picrew I had in the template I made since I can draw. I did end up just putting it as back and white though but the color is just nice to have. I'm STILL trying to tweak the template since it is very finicky and there is an example of what it looks down below if you're interested. It is a lot. It will happen. I am just not the quickest

decided to finally start transferring some of my shitty fanfiction pitches that i've been tossing at friends or into my tiny notebook onto my master doc (which i haven't touched since like, mid-may apparently), only to discover that i??? can't seem to edit gdocs on my laptop for some reason???? like it won't recognize any keyboard inputs, including ctrl+c/ctrl+v???

and i'm like "okay fine let's see if it works on a different acct" so i open up the doc to anyone w/the link n am abt to switch to one of my other accts, but half of them are like signed out, so i'm like "whatever" n go to sign in, but it repeatedly tells me that sign-in has failed w/o even letting me try typing in a password????

so i'm like "ugh fine whatever" and i turn off the vpn i got like two days ago to see if THAT does anything (it doesn't) and so i start googling the problem, trying various things, but all of them are like "oh yeah use google chrome for this" or "on your chromebook" or "install this google chrome extension!" and i'm like!!!!

no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! fuck you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK. YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curious how many other ao3 fic writers write with limited HTML vs just switch to “Rich Text” when dropping in their fics.

Because I only realized what Rich text was after I got in the habit of just typing my italics and bold like <I> and <b> and I know I can’t be the only one who does this

this may be a thorny question but given all the emotions that we've just been through with 3x03 and also given that i love your writing... are you working on anything at the moment?

not thorny at all! all the emotions have indeed been experienced and i'm probably going to experience them all over again every day until the new episode drops and then the cycle begins anew.

but on the subject of writing! i'm currently wrestling with a longer wip i started months before S3 premiered that's more jamie-centric. it's already wildly canon-divergent, but i really want to see it through and hopefully get it posted in the next week or two? maybe?

though because of 3x03, i am toying with a lil missing scene...perhaps stay tuned...

Seen a couple posts on the dashboard lately about writing with ADHD. So, for the ADHD and neurodivergent folks who like writing but struggle sometimes... check out StimuWrite.

You can set it to make little sounds as you type (or leave them off), and emojis pop up in the corner. You can change the background, dark and light themes, set your word goal, and it gives you a percentage and total word count at the bottom. Though it’s more meant for getting a draft written up, so it doesn’t have spell check or anything like that. You’re meant to just copy and past what you write here into Google Docs or Word or Scrivener or whatever else you use and go from there. Honestly love it when I'm struggling to get words down, though. And apparently there’s an update now for StimuWrite 2?👀

Anyways, give it a try if it looks like it may help. It’s currently name-your-own-price.

If you use Google Docs for your writing, I highly encourage you to download your work, delete it from Google Docs, and transfer it to a different program/site, unless you want AI to start leeching off your hard work!!!

I personally have switched to Libre Office, but there are many different options. I recommend checking out r/degoogle for options.

Google is going to start scraping all of their platforms to use for AI training. So, here are some alternatives for common Google tools!

Google Chrome -> Firefox

If you’re on tumblr, you’ve probably already been told this a thousand times. But FireFox is an open-source browser which is safe, fast and secure. Basically all other browsers are Chrome reskins. Try Firefox Profilemaker, Arkenfox and Librewolf! Alternatively, vanilla Firefox is alright, but get Ublock Origin, turn off pocket, and get Tabliss.

Google Search -> DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo very rarely tracks or stores your browsing data (though they have only been known to sell this info to Microsoft). Don’t use their browser; only their search engine. Domain visits in their browser get shared. Alternatively, you can also use Ecosia, which is a safe search engine that uses its income to plant trees! 🌲

Google Reverse Image Search -> Tineye

Tineye uses image identification tech rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks to find you the source of your image!

Gmail -> ProtonMail

All data stored on ProtonMail is encrypted, and it boasts self-destructing emails, text search, and a commitment to user privacy. Tutanota is also a good alternative!

Google Docs -> LibreOffice

LibreOffice is free and open-source software, which includes functions like writing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, formula editing and more.

Google Translate -> DeepL

DeepL is notable for its accuracy of translation, and is much better that Google Translate in this regard. It does cost money for unlimited usage, but it will let you translate 500,000 characters per month for free. If this is a dealbreaker, consider checking out the iTranslate app.

Google Forms -> ClickUp

ClickUp comes with a built-in form view, and also has a documents feature, which could make it a good option to take out two birds with one stone.

Google Drive -> Mega

Mega offers a better encryption method than Google Drive, which means it’s more secure.

YouTube -> PeerTube

YouTube is the most difficult to account for, because it has a functional monopoly on long-form video-sharing. That being said, PeerTube is open-source and decentralized. The Internet Archive also has a video section!

However, if you still want access to YouTube’s library, check out NewPipe and LibreTube! NewPipe scrapes YouTube’s API so you can watch YouTube videos without Google collecting your info. LibreTube does the same thing, but instead of using YouTube servers, it uses piped servers, so Google doesn’t even get your IP address. Both of these are free, don’t require sign-ins, and are open source!

apparently some thieves i am NOT calling them people because who with moral compass would do this shit? are copying, pasting and printing out popular fanfictions on AO3, binding them, turning them into actual books and selling them on places like Etsy WITHOUT crediting the original authors. which is why we can’t find some certain popular fics or authors on AO3
