I don’t know if anyone’s pointed this out yet but Octonauts on Barnacles’s birthday in 12 year bloom is the most adorable thing ever! Their gifts are so precious too.

Just look at Kwazii with his anchor from the first ship wreck they explored together

I’m not sure why he has it but that’s very Kwazii of him

Peso with his personalised stickers (which is freaking adorable😭)

Dashi with her photos from the Great Barrier Reef (I love the handmade gifts so much)

I’m so happy that the Octonauts have canonically birthdays!

Since this episode was aired on the 20th of October, I’m going to say that it’s now his canonical birthday!

I really want to see you draw shellington with the Vegimals aka his kids and everyone's first reactions to the Vegimals!

Note: Peso isn’t here because this all takes place before he joined

When the Vegimals first hatched, Shellington was astonished by these fascinating creatures.

And then reality set in

How was he going to tell the rest of the crew?

On top of this now he had to take care of these little guys. Give them names, feed them, ect.

Welcome to parenthood Shellington

He was nervous about the crew getting scared, or worse wanting the Vegimals to be released back into the ocean, so he kept his care for them a secret. (Although he wasn’t particularly subtle)

Soon Captain Barnacles noticed how sluggish and overworked Shellington had become and decided to check on him, only to be met with a small little creature thrusted into his arms by Shellington.

The lab was in total chaos and Shellington wasn’t looking too well.

Even with a very brief explanation from Shellington, the Captain could see how exhausted he was. And the Vegimals didn’t seem dangerous, just a bit of a handful.

So he made the decision to brief in the other Octonauts.

They were all shocked by the Vegimals, and had so many questions.

But Captain Barnacles made it very clear the main priority was to help Shellington. Luckily, Inkling found a few baby books in his big library.

They all joined Shellington in the lab bringing fish biscuit formula, blankets, Tweak had made little beds, Inkling brought a few books for Shellington, and they all stayed with him to help out with the Vegimals.

Shellington was very touched by his crew’s compassion, so much so he fell asleep.

The captain didn’t mind though, and they all kept watch over their new crew members while Shellington got some well overdue rest.

And by the time Peso joined, they Vegimals were very much a part of the crew, and he was briefed in about them and to not be startled by them.

Octonauts Headcanons because they consume my brain (sleep edition)

Shellington cannot sleep if he isn't holding something, usually a plush toy or his own paw.

Dashi takes a while to get comfortable, tossing and turning for up to an hour.

Captain Barnacles has a special cooling blanket because polar bear.

The vegimals will routinely sleep in one big pile of the greenhouse floor for no apparent reason.

When stressed, Peso will make a nest out of blankets and pillows to sleep in.

Kwazii will knead his pillow before he goes to bed.

Tweak is a very active sleeper. She's a sleep-talker and -walker.

Inkling will occasionally fall asleep in the library. His little ear things will also twitch if you touch them.

PROFESSOR NEMO THEODORE INKLING REDESIGN 🐙🌊📚

Design Elements :

Straight, but soft features

Skintone less vibrant, more gray

Look the most uncanny (or at least I tried)

Hair isn't actually hair --- it's long, fleshy tentacles (8 of them)

^ Tentacles and pink patch in brow can change colors to camouflage and/or show strong emotions (face turns red when angry, blue when sad, etc)

Eyes meant to appear colorless

Very squishable, soft skin

Some Personal Lore & Headcanons ! :

Used to live in the Mariana Trench, but moved to Sea Mound to have better access to the land, where he went to school and such.

He has two rows of teeth, one row of frontal white shark-esque teeth, and a row of sharp black teeth closer to his throat. Meant to look like the beak of an octopus (irl dumbo octopuses don't have beaks or squirt ink, but I do it for the rule of cool).

Can glow (again, irl dumbos can't do that, but it's for the cool), and similarly to his cousin, the colossal squid, he has a glowing ring of dots around his eyes.

He has so many siblings that he's lost count (irl dumbos can lay up to 200,000 eggs at one time)

Being a shifter from so deep in the sea (which is a rarity in my AU universe), he's prized by Shifter Hunters ( a concept developed with the help of one super dope @mildy-vibing ). One time in his youth (way before the Octonauts), he was captured by Hunters but was able to escape, but he now has a fear of going on land (where he was caught). He will go on land if he feels safe enough and/or has to, but prefers to with company, or just not at all. None of the Octonauts know about this, or much of his past at all, only Min. (Who I see as both his best friend and lover)

I love Inkling so much, I'm not normal about him, and I will admit it <3 🤭

Sad Headcannos🫧

🫧:Peso has a bad habit of biting his fins because of his anxiety at work. Barnacles tried to help by giving him gloves to protect his fins, but he kept doing it

🫧:Because of his autism, Shellington tends to have meltdowns for many reasons such as: flashing lights, loud noises or when something doesn't go as planned.

🫧:Tweak suffered some discrimination when she went to college for the simple fact of being a female engineer, this had a strong impact on her life and sometimes she cries about it.

🫧:Barnacles has scars all over his body (especially his arms and legs) which causes him great insecurity and the only thing that compels him is to wear long clothes.

🫧:Kwazii also suffered discrimination from his family. They thought that because he was a pirate with good intentions, he was weak and a disappointment to everyone

🫧:Dashi, on the other hand, suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager to the point of being hospitalized. She thinks she's ugly, but Tweak always tells her she's the most beautiful woman in the world. 🥰😭

🫧:The Vegimals are prone to having nightmares because of Kwazii's pirate stories. This leads to arguments between Kwazii and Shellington. They think it's all their fault, but Shellington He always tells them that nothing is their fault.(please give them an award for best father 😭)

🫧:Although Professor Inkling is calm and in a good mood, he is afraid of something: Death.The mere thought that he could leave at any moment terrifies him.

I just discovered this mode that translates everything I write into English. And you don't know how happy I am about this (although I'm afraid of writing something wrong and not knowing it because I don't speak English 🥲)

How would the Octonauts react to another member crying? (Sorry if you alreadyansweredit elsewhere.)

these are just based on vibes lol

Barnacles: he'd ask them what's going on and listen and try to figure out how to make them feel better from there

Kwazii: after asking what's wrong he later invites them on a ride in a gup to admire the beautiful sea

Peso: same as barnacles, but more of like a therapy kind of way if that makes sense

Shellington: might struggle at giving advice and such but listens all the same

for dashi and tweak I honestly don't know I'm sorry T-T

Inkling: asks what's wrong, delivers wisdom (or something like that)

Vegimals: would group up to cheer them up by making them laugh!
