Two very closely-related eagle-owls
One of the largest owls in the world, Eurasian eagle-owls can reach a weight of up to 4.6 kg (10.1 lb) and a wingspan of up to 2 m (6 ft 7 in). As suggested by their name, they live across Eurasia, preferring rocky and mountainous areas near forest edges or coniferous forests. These owls nest on rocks or boulders, rather than tree hollows like many other owls. Parents care for their chicks for five or six months, and have occasionally been recorded caring for juvenile owls that are not their own.
The pharaoh eagle-owl lives in Northern Africa and the Arabian peninsula, residing in open, arid, rocky areas. They hunt from a rocky perch to catch mammals, birds, snakes, lizards, beetles and scorpions. These owls are monogamous. Young remain with their parents for several months after fledging.

The garden-- Jareth x reader
“Darling!” Jareth called, waving towards you, “Come and join me!”
You looked away from your dirt covered hands and towards him, raising an eyebrow at the fact that he not only sat underneath an overly large umbrella, but that said umbrella was currently parked underneath a tree. He adjusted his large sunglasses, and you felt bad for the poor goblin fanning him with a large leaf as if he was some ancient pharaoh. The chair Jareth lounged upon added to the image, a luxurious throne carved out of golden swirls that towered above his head, only to peek into a carved owl.
You never said your husband was humble.
“You know I'm gardening,” you called back, feeling the sun stain your shoulders and the breeze stroke your face, “I don't see why you insisted on coming out here!”
He crossed his arms, and you knew he rolled his eyes by the way he moved his head. Of course, he faked a pout a few feet away from you.
“Do you not wish to see me dearest?” he asked.
“Of course I do! But I wish–”
“Be careful what you wish for!”
“I wish you could come and garden with me. But I know you don't like dirt!” now, you pouted, “So, I’ll do it myself.”
With this, he crossed one leg over the other, now tapping his fingers against the arms of the chair as he watched you, lips pulled into a frown. You were covered in dirt! Your hair, which of course had been beautifully done this morning, woven with flowers, was now affray– a sigh escaped his lips. He rested his chin on his hand, now, lips pulling up at the corners.
The way the sun shone on you made his heart quiver. The way your eyebrows knitted in concentration, and another sigh left his lips. His gaze traveled to the goblin fanning him. He wished to see the sight of you here, alone, without that idiot who was so eager to please. Jareth frowned at the creature.
“Go get lemonade. Two glasses. Filled with ice.”
“But who will–”
Jareth leaned over his chair, “Did I stutter?”
The goblin dashed off just as you wiped the sweat off your brow, letting out a breath. You turned towards him, and your cheeks flushed. His gaze made your heart buzz and despite being peeved at being all alone, you couldn’t help but feel your tummy flip. Oh, how could you be such a love sick puppy around him? Every time you two were around each other, it was as if you were children playing a game only you understood. Perhaps, in some way or another, all relationships were a game, or just the ones with his kind, anyway.
“Precious!” he crooned, “Are your cheeks getting flushed?”
“No!”
He smirked, tutting, “Oh but I know you too well, don’t I darling? How dare you try and hide how flustered you are around me! Tell me, won’t you sweetness, what I did to make you so bashful?” He then stopped, before frowning, “The flowers better not be trying to flirt!”
You sent him a look, giggling, “No!”
“Then, what is it?”
You side eyed him, before going back to work, causing him to scoff.
“You cannot ignore me!”
You ignored him. It was a part of the game, afterall.
“Darling!”
You stabbed the dirt and dug it up.  You'd been working on the soil here for months now, gently nudging Jareth to let it rain more within the labyrinth, while also making piles of compost. Much to your surprise, there were talking worms who loved the stuff, and happily help you revitalize the soil within the garden.
“Dearest!”
You hummed softly, a smile spreading across your features. The soil was a dark, earthy brown, and you couldn't help but admire your work. Done with the digging, you grabbed a plant and plopped it into the earth. Flowers really did brighten up the place, though you felt bad for having the goblins steal these.
“My love!” Jareth called.
You started to dig another hole.
“Don't ignore me!” He exclaimed, sounding like an annoyed kitten, before rising from his seat, stomping towards you.
His cape billowed behind him like a black shadow, and the sun caused his hair to shimmer like spun sunlight. You couldn’t help but watch the way his shirt exposed his chest, and ignored the urge to slide your hands underneath the silky fabric. Jareth sighed, hands on his hips as he glowered at you.
“Did you call me, my love?” You asked, voice tilting.
Towering over you, he scowled, before leaning over and poking your forehead. You laughed.
“You ignored me!” He cried, “how dare you ignore me?”
“I heard you,” you shrugged,” but I just didn't respond!”
He stomped his foot.
“Don't be upset, lovey,” you cooed, “I’d make it up with a kiss, but we both know you despise dirt. You'd hate to get your clothes dirty.”
He scoffed, and much to your surprise, he grabbed the collar of your shirt, bringing you into a passionate kiss. It made your stomach roll, it took your breath away, and for a moment– you were falling.
Then, he pulled away with a smirk.
He was so cruel! Doing that to you! Yet, you smiled anyway, and your cheeks heated, and giggles left you. Chuckling, he tutted as you tried to hide behind your hands.
“Oh no, you won't cover your face, darling, especially from me.”
He grabbed your wrists, pulling your hands away, before capturing his lips within yours. It was like meeting the universe. Or perhaps, meeting home. His lips were warm, soft, inviting, and you heard a soft intangible thud as he landed upon his knees.
Now, you pulled away, “You've gotten dirty.”
He frowned, “I don't give a damn. Kiss me again.”
Despite your messy hands, you grabbed his collar, kissing him again, again, again. It was so fun, this game, or whatever this was. Was love supposed to be fun? In response to your forwardness, soft noises escaped him, and you couldn't help the smirk coating your lips. Of course, you had to pull away. Teasing was a part of the fun, after all.
“Oh dear,” you murmured, “there’s dirt on your shirt!”
He narrowed his eyes, “Yes, my beloved. And there’s dirt on yours! Now, I must demand you abandon this task, don’t you see how it has exhausted you so?”
“What’s in it for me?”
He groaned, rolling his eyes,  “If you let the goblins plant this garden for you, my dear, I will kiss you.”
“Is that it?”
“Oh my darling, my world, my moon and stars! What else could you want?”
“I will let the gardener plant the rest of these blossoms, but you will plant one before I do. Deal?”
He gasped, hands traveling to his face, “My love!”
“Just one.”
“Oh, how you torture me!”
“Then I'll do the rest.” You replied, turning away from him, only for him to pull you into his lap.
“Fine!”
“Then, my darling, do we have a deal?”
“Yes, my beloved, we have a deal. How you test me.”
You felt your lips curling upwards as a gasp left you.
“Really?!”
“Yes.” he mumbled, arms crossed.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed his glittered cheek, before grabbing a plant and shoving it into his hands. He sighed dramatically.
“We have a deal.”
“I know.”
With that, you dug a hole in the dirt with your spade, before he plopped the plant into it. You covered it for him, before smiling at him again.
“We have a deal, darling.” he said.
You chuckled, playing along, “I know, dearest.”
“You really ought to reward me for the strenuous work.”
Jareth stood, dusting off his pants with a frown, before offering you a gloved hand. Once you took it, he smirked as the both of you walked out of the garden together, knowing he’d won. Though, he never quite knew he could share a victory until he met you, and he knew that despite his best instincts, he’d kneel in the dirt just to relish you once more.

Tumblr media
Moondancers.
A truly indescribable sight.
The landscape around you is eerily quiet that even the leaves among the trees stop their movements to capture the beauty of these rare creatures. Only the lowly purrs of the large beast's rumble within your ears.
Overgrown ancient beasts that resemble a Pharaoh hound with large upright ears, a long slim tail and wing's similar to an owl; they may sound and appear simple, like a creature conjured up by the imagination of a 4-year-old to put into a children's book, but they're here and they're real.
You've studied dozens of ancient texts, truly fascinated by forgotten creatures of the past to know that what stands before you, this myth, is alive.
Legends say that the Moondancers went extinct roughly 400 years ago and 10 alone had the strength to completely wipe an entire army. Legend also states that they have the intelligence of an ancient philosopher who can speak telepathically, offering wisdom that's now long forgotten. People used them for prophecies or war tactics, and they were quite docile when trust was earned, but it wasn't given easily. They were hunted and poached mostly because of fear, but also because their saliva had other worldly healing abilities.
Although humanity told you they were extinct, deep down you knew they'd be thriving. This moment, hiding behind the brush of the forest to observe one of the greatest discoveries of modern times, was the reason why you became a Beast Hunter. You didn't even hesitate when you were hired to research ancient ruins that were found drawn into the mud in an isolated mountain range on a continent far-far away. Whether they have abilities or not, whether the texts were correct, these beasts are real and you found them.
You're careful to conceal your presence along with the shuddering excitement that dances under your flesh. There's one thing for certain though - if the pack ever noticed you were here, especially with their offspring of last season trotting around, you wouldn't even have the chance to take your last breath.
There's a new moon tonight, so visibility is low. Within the next 30 days, you'll be observing this pack of Moondancers until the next full moon. If you had translated the books correctly, this time of year during this exact month will be the mating cycle.
Cold wind blows over your face, causing you suck in a breath. Goosebumps litter your skin under the layers you wear.
Damn, of course it would be this time of year. The temperature surely dropped within the past week. The end of autumn is near and the kiss of winter's promise just nipped at your cheek. The feigning thought of if you packed enough warm clothes briefly crosses your mind. You'd think after becoming a professional Hunter you'd stop overlooking simple things like this, but you can’t help it.
You live for this.
Cubs loudly yip and flap their fluffy wings while they play with each other. It seems that even after a year, the cubs haven't developed mature feathers yet. Taking in that mental note, you scan your eyes over, you watch the adults lounge underneath the starlit sky.
It didn't take you too long to find the ancient ruins Mr. Wong told you about because it didn't seem like anyone, or anything, tried to conceal it. You doubt many people venture out over here anyways. Even so, the hike after finding the symbols took you about 10 days to find exactly what created them, since you were being extremely careful with the terrain.
Does the pack think they are completely secluded out here on this continent? You suppose so, you contemplate, mainly due to the environment. Not just anyone can waltz into an area like this unless they had a lot of experience with hiking and tracking. The ruins were found miles away from what seems to be their home. Were they nomads? You don't remember reading that detail about them...
As a matter of fact, you were pretty limited on information from what was said in the books.
Your heart thumps within your chest.
You'll be able to fill your own textbooks with knowledge of them. A continuation of forgotten bygones. After all, they haven't been seen in over 400 years, so what information will you find? What characteristics do they have? With what lies before you, they appear as simple, forest creatures.
6am.
You've been watching them all night and the sun will rise in an hour. You suppose it's time to figure out your new campsite since this will be your new schedule, staying up all night and sleeping during the day, far, far away from them.
Using zetsu to conceal your presence, you shift slowly to stand.
"Don't move yet," a low, smooth voice warns very close to your left ear before a warm hand grips your shoulder to prevent you from moving.
With your eyes blown wide in shock, blood freezes your veins over tenfold. Keeping your line of vision forward, ignoring the thumping of your heart ringing through your ears, you use your peripherals to assess your newest threat. Not only did you need to keep quiet to conceal yourself from the pack, but now you're cornered by… someone or something.
You swallow thickly and attempt to calm your breathing. You don't know if this is an ambush, or even a human who spoke to you. You're on an isolated part of a continent that has less than 0% of a human population. Alone. With nowhere to run.
Whatever it is, there’s no bloodlust, or ominous aura. If anything, the air feels still, almost calm, like it’s trying to conceal itself too. But you can;t trust it, why would you?
You flare up your ten with an unconscious reaction but the being next to you digs it’s blunt fingernails roughly into your neck.
"Are you an idiot? I said don't move." You still, neck muscles flexing to protect yourself from the grip.
With a voice barely a whisper, it reassures you. "I won't hurt you."
Bracing yourself, you slide your eyes ever so slowly to the left without moving your face.
A man.
A man, still as a statue, eyes glimmering as he faces forward to watch the pack of ancient beasts. A man, with beautifully sharp features and a strong nose - is so close to you that his cheek almost touches yours.
He’s warm. The scent of soap and pine fill your nostrils.
You feel it now, how his body hovers, towering over you in a warmth you haven't felt in weeks. Silver hair, that somehow glows even under a moonless sky, cascades over his body. He wears a blue hat that covers the entirety of his forehead.
It is strange someone would be here, at this time of day, with no suspicious aura to trigger anything negative. You can’t help but put in blind trust to the stranger. He’s only focused on what lies ahead in the clearing, with eyes that glow with something of amazement.
You relax, just slightly. His fingers release the tension over your neck as you do so in a mutual silent action of trust.
Movement catches you from your thoughts from the corner of your eye. It’s the largest Moondancer, standing to take the center of the pack. Swishing its tail through the grass like a serpent, its wings spread wide. And holy gods, what a wingspan. You wonder if they did choose to fly, if they could go at the speed of light with their anatomy. Slim facial structures and aerodynamic bodies could make it possible, you think.
You watch in awe as the being flaps its wings and chitters lowly to the others. One by one, the pack yips back, spreading their own wings before following the leader inside the cave.
Once all gone, the man slides his hand away, leaving your neck exposed to the crisp air. You turn your head to watch him stand and re-adjust the straps of his backpack. How did he know to wait? What books has he read that you haven't?
Turning to you, brilliant hazel eyes find yours. He takes a moment to scan your face before speaking. "We should make camp. We will be here for a while."
You furrow your brows and shake your head. "Wait, who are you? How did you find this place?"
With a sigh, the man turns away and begins walking.
"Didn't he tell you I was coming?"
No, Mr. Wong, or anyone on his team for that matter, failed to tell you that you'd have company. You stand to catch up with the man, but you're cautious to not walk beside him just yet. He's... so fucking tall. Towering over you with a slender form and a gait as stoic as his face and fluid as water, he has to be at least 8ft. His silver hair is a lot longer than you expected, too. Slung over his backpack, the length of it sways just above his knees.
"Are you part of a research team?"
"You could say that." He pauses, "I'm Kite. I've been working with Mr. Wong for a while. I'm also a Beast Hunter."
You purse your lips. That makes sense, you guess. He brings an unnaturally calming presence. You’re used to working alone, only being active as a Hunter for a short period of time. But in this short period of time, you were quickly aware that Hunters can be… dangerous or greedy. You avoided working with others because of that. Kite seemed open, introducing himself and offering to camp together. You weren’t used to the casualness.
Maybe you could let your guard down, for now.
When you introduce yourself, Kite doesn't react.
For the next hour, the two of you walked in silence, careful to avoid slipping on sharp rocks or losing your footing along the way. The crisp air turns your breath into foggy vapor, but once the sun peeked over a distant mountain, graciously warming your nose, you smiled. Your new found discovery was keeping you on a high. You've only passed the Hunter's Exam just a year ago and you've already made your debut. Moments like this were what you craved. Adventuring the world, witnessing sights like those white capped mountains glowing in an orange hue first thing in the morning, creating your legacy and studying to your heart's content.
You wonder if he shared the same sentiments as you, being a Beast Hunter.
And who is he, exactly?
You cringe. Imagine if he’s a famous Hunter who has made incredible discoveries and you didn’t even know it. Spending your life buried in books and ancient scriptures, that you honestly don’t keep up with things like this. How embarrassing would it be if he expects that you’ve heard of him. Or maybe he’s new to this, like yourself. Although, that doesn’t seem fitting. He carries himself well, but not cocky. He’s careful with every movement, calculated. He’s been at this for a while, but could you trust him?
It’s not just men that you have a hard time to trust, it’s everyone. Life hasn’t been kind to you. Avoidance was a comfort. The shitty people in the world actually make it easier for you to endure, because you have a reason to have the disdain. So working alone brings a sense of solace.
Pulling you out of your thoughts, Kite tosses his bag onto a patch of grass. "This should be good." Taking a look around, you agree and you wonder if he's been to this side of the continent before, another reason for you to think he’s experienced beyond comparison. You could learn a thing or two with him. Every moment could be an opportunity to grow into what you’ve always dreamed of being.
The both of you stand in a small clearing surrounded by thick trees that extend to the heavens. A stream flows just to your left and there's an area of shrubs just north where you can do your private business in... private.
Rummaging through his backpack, Kite pulls out a few items, fabric and a small pot. "Why don't you fetch some wood and I'll set up and make us something to eat, yeah?"
Coming back to your new-found camp with sticks piled up to your chin over your arms, was like coming back to a luxury campsite. Kite had managed to pitch a tent and a circle of rocks as a makeshift fire pit. He even managed to roll a large log next to the pit to sit on. Toiletries, food packets, pots, bowls, cups and a few other essentials litter a large rock beside the fire pit.
“You were busy,” you place the wood down.
Digging through his bag, Kite flashes his eyes to you before pulling out a lighter.
”It’s better to live in some comfort if we will be living here a while. Here, I have a pack of oatmeal for dinner. It’s not much, but once we get into a routine we can start fishing and harvesting for food.”
Hah, dinner. So weird to eat dinner at this time of day. The sun is fully out now, warming the land.
“Well, thank you. I didn’t pack as much as you did, but I have some food to share between the two of us. I wish I knew someone was coming, I would have… prepared better.” You trail off.
Kite shrugged, focused on preparing the fire.
“Not your fault. This is my usual anyways.”
Taking a seat on the log next to him, you watch the silver haired man get to work on dinner. The warmth of the crackling fire soothes your soul, making you sleepy. You didn’t realize how cold you were until now.
“We’ll be able to sleep all you want, we just have to be there an hour after sunset. We don’t want to be there when the pack comes out of the cave, just to be safe. They could be on high alert.” He says, handing you a steaming bowl of oatmeal.
You nod. Taking his own bowl, he adjusts himself on the log to face you.
“How did you find them?”
”Hm? Oh, well when Mr. Wong showed me pictures of the symbols, I recognized them from old texts I studied a while back. I knew that there was some other texts that connected the Moondancers to the symbols, so when I came out here, I tracked them.”
”Pretty impressive. I actually found them by tracking you.”
Your brows raise, giving him a shy smile. “And how did you find me?”
”You think I would give my abilities away to a stranger?” His face is expressionless as his eyes bore into yours. You look down to the oatmeal in embarrassment.
“No, just curious. I don’t usually work with others, so I thought I was all alone until you showed up and scared me half to death.”
“You should be careful here.” He comments.
“You speak like you’ve been here before.” You look up at him, licking your spoon clean.
“I’ve been here a couple times for other research. It’s nice here, but if you’re not careful you could run into some sketchy shit.”
”Well aren’t I lucky to have you then?” You smile. The oatmeal is delicious. Warm and spiced with cinnamon.
You opt to change the subject, curious about what happened earlier. “How did you know not to move before?”
Kite finishes off his food before placing his bowl on the ground. “Just instinct I guess. Similar beasts usually rally up the herd to go to bed. I also read that the Moondancers were reported to never be out during the day. I had a hunch that they would go back into the cave before the sun came out, maybe for preventive measures.”
Creatures that can’t be out when the sun is up. It makes sense, with their name being ‘Moondancers’ and all.
“I see,” you whisper. “Aren’t they incredible?”
Kite smiles, his hazel eyes shine with that same amazement you saw before. “Yeah, I’m interested to see how this goes. It’ll be my 69th species to discover, along with you of course. It never gets old.”
You nearly choke on a spoonful of oatmeal. 69th?! He’s gotta be…
Kite chuckles at your reaction and faces the fire. The light from the crackling flames reflect beautifully over his pale skin in waves, even when the sun is high.
“This may be my biggest research project, since we don’t know anything about them and believed them to be myths. Do you have a notebook to document?”
You nod, “I have a few.”
”Very good. If you don’t mind, can you keep logs for us? My handwriting is horseshit.”
”It’s one of my favorite parts of it anyways.” You give a smile and finish off your dinner.
“Don’t worry about logging today. We had a long journey and have been up all night. I’m more concerned about us getting sleep so we can stay awake all night tonight.” His eyes scan your face, “are you full?”
You nod.
”Good.” Kite stands, stretching his arms to the sky before waving a hand to you. “Let’s go rest.”
You follow in suit. You realize that you weren’t much of a conversationalist over dinner. Heat flares over the tops of your ears, how embarrassing. There’s so much you want to say, but you’re in the presence of someone far beyond you. You’re confident in your own abilities, there’s no doubt about that, but when someone like Kite is leading the way in every aspect down to the food he prepares for the both of you, you feel… kinda useless.
Was it because you’re embarrassed of your status as a new Hunter?
Kite lifts the fabric that acts as the door to the tent and waves you in first.
The tent wasn’t small by any means, but it wasn’t 3-bed-2-bath-house type huge. The tent was cozy though and… warm.
But you immediately notice.
One bed.
“Oh.” You couldn’t help it, the little whisper passed through your lips without thinking.
A single bed made of thick wool blankets is neatly prepared to the right. Your bag next to his sat perfectly to the left. A small lantern hangs from a metal structure in the middle of the tent.
“You did all this when I went to get fire wood? For 30 minutes?”
Walking in behind you, Kite presses a gentle hand on your hip to move past you. The tent is conveniently tall enough to harbor his height.
“Well after you’ve camped in random places most of your life, you kind of get a feel for what you need and how to do it.”
“Oh,” you say again.
“I even brought you some extra stuff like toothpaste and soap.”
Your chest swells. He really does know what to do. It’s like he’s prepared for everything. You, of course, were too, but just for yourself. If you didn’t have Kite, you’d be sleeping under a makeshift shelter made of sticks and sleeping in a sleeping bag for 30 days.
“Kite, how can I thank you?”
His face remains stoic, but his eyes widen just a bit. “There’s no need. It’s what we do for each other.”
“Do you usually have others with you on these expeditions?”
He nods, “Sometimes. I used to do them alone until I met a group of aspiring Hunters. They’re smart and help me a lot with bigger missions.”
”Why aren’t they here now?”
Kite takes a second to answer, as he rummages around for warm clothes. “Mr. Wong told me that this mission didn’t cause for a bigger group. He told me that a very capable greenhorn Hunter would suffice.”
Oh. You.
“Greenhorn?” If you didn’t know better, you’d take offense to the name. But… you can’t lie. It’s true. You’re new after all.
Kite chuckles. And to your shock, Kite removes his white shirt with his back towards you. You want to turn away, to give him privacy, but, why would he be changing now if he didn’t want it?
You were greatly mistaken by his slender build earlier, because once his shirt was off, the muscles in his back beautifully ripple with muscles carved by the gods themselves. Old scares littered with newer ones trail down his back in deep hues of maroon. The slight was quickly replaced by a sweater he throws on.
“Yeah, we call newer Hunters greenhorns. Nothing bad about it, especially when Wong told me you were capable. I trust him, he doesn’t usually put out a good word for many.”
Your mouth opens to respond, but nothing comes out, so you close it. Pride swells in your chest. Your hard work is paying off already, and Kite does know that. Or at least he is trusting that you can live up to the expectation.
“Well, I’m flattered. I hope I don’t disappoint!” You grin, watching Kite pull his silver hair over his sweater.
Getting ready for bed, you opted to change outside the tent into sweats and an oversized sweater. Unlike Kite, you weren’t that comfortable changing in front of others. Using the sanitized water that was boiled earlier, you brush your teeth and head back into the tent to find Kite already laying on one side of the bed.
You shift your weight awkwardly, watching him flip through a book.
Without his hat, you get a better view of his facial features. And fuck, what a beautiful man. Bangs fall perfectly over his brow as the rest of his hair curls over the floor in silver locks. Almond shaped eyes find yours, looking up from his book.
“I-, I have my sleeping bag. Let me just grab it and I’ll be out of your way.”
Kite’s wrist goes limp, dropping his book over his thigh. “What do you mean?”
Unzipping your bag across the tent, you pull out the rolled up fabric. “I have my own sleeping bag, I’ll… be outside today. The fire is still going and the sun is out, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
”You can’t sleep in the open, that’s asking for a death sentence in a place like this.” His voice is monotone while face is completely fixated on you rummaging awkwardly through your belongings.
You pause. He didn’t expect you to stay with him, did he?
Kite continues, “I made this tent for the both of us. Why would I make a shelter and expect you to sleep somewhere unguarded?”
“I…” you purse your lips and turn to face him. “I just didn’t want to assume.”
A pregnant silence fills the tent. Your hand is still awkwardly gripping the rolled up sleeping bag.
”I’m not going to tell you what to do, but I’d prefer it if you didn’t sleep outside. Although the sun is out, it’s still cold. I don’t need a sick partner, it would make this mission a nuisance.” He closes his book and sets it on the ground beside the bed.
You inhale deeply. The bed does look warm.
“Okay, but don’t steal any blankets.” You joke, an awkward attempt of keeping the mood light.
“You got a deal.”
Kite had you laying on the side against the wall of the tent. Dipping yourself under the blankets was a caress of warmth that felt heavenly, since Kite’s body was already under them. Turning away from him and facing the wall, your eyelids grow heavy.
Kite’s body moves lower under the blankets, turning himself away so his back is to yours.
The simplicity of his warmth and presence barely touching you was enough to flutter your heart. So close, like he was a few hours ago, almost cheek to cheek with a hand upon your neck. You can feel his body rising and falling from peaceful breathing beside you.
Like a wavering lullaby, your body drifts deeper and deeper into a peaceful rest.
But before you nod off, you make sure to say one last thing.
“Thank you, Kite.”
If the slurred words of your tired state wasn’t enough to send his heart a flame, it was the fact that he’d met someone similar to himself. There’s a fire blazing within your eyes, one that he knows all too well himself.
It was unexpected that the Hunter he was paired up with would be a woman of your cabilber. He didn’t plan for this. The gnawing feeling deep within his chest tells him that you’re more than what he bargained for.
God help him for what’s about to come. For he can try to ignore it himself, but the moon sees all.

Tell us about the most crazy folklore creature you know 👀👀👀👀
ukrainian folklore is of course filled with all kinds of wonderful beasts: milk-stealing witches; beautiful girls with their innards outward; dog-headed one-eyed anthropophagous giants; pharaoh's army soldier fishwomen and so many more.
not sure if this is one is as "crazy" but i do find her intriguing. ukrainian spirit personification of the plague — chuma or džuma. chuma is envisioned as a rich lady in a chariot of six white horses; after her is a procession of sighthounds, spirits, owls, visions and witches. she can be recognized for roosters do not sing when she's near and dogs do not bark at her. where she swings her handkerchief — everything falls dead.
it is believed that the plague can live among people a regular life for some time. in one village of podillia region there was a story of a salt merchant pavlo who lived among other merchants for seven years and got himself quite a husbandry. on the seventh year he became sad and grieving, and people saw him yearning and weeping a lot. when asked what is wrong, he revealed that he is actually the plague, and now God had summoned him back to work, and he is grieving to leave his good friends behind. he promised the village to not ever harm them, then gifted away all of his possessions, kissed his friends goodbye and disappeared next morning. such is the story of pavlo the plague

Dunes & Waters, part 21
PART 1 • PREVIOUS PART • NEXT PART
The letter arrives as they eat breakfast. It’s not at their usual time, on account of the late night, and Remus feels a bit groggy and stretched out thin. Sirius doesn’t seem to have the same issue (he’s got the cat on one knee, an open book on the other and a quill tucked in behind his ear. Seems to be largely ignoring his toast), and when the bird swoops in through the perpetually open kitchen window, he runs to greet it, dislodging Ziggy from his lap in the process.
It’s a beautiful, towny owl. It nuzzles its beak to Sirius’ knuckles before offering up the letter attached to its foot. “It’s the Potter’s owl,” Sirius is a whirling excitement. Calls the owl to the table and offers it ham from his plate. “Alright if she stays the day? It’s such a long flight from England.”
“Don’t know how the hotel will feel about us starting a menagerie in here,” Remus jokes and Sirius reads straight through it. Feeds the owl some more and beacons Ziggy back to himself. Remus would be worried about their proximity if not for the way Sirius has with the animals.
Sirius tears into the envelope. Remus thinks about leaving the kitchen, giving him space, but he’s loath to get up. The sun shines through the windows in that perfect orange glow, his tea had turned out just right, and Sirius makes the prettiest picture of happiness.
“They didn’t believe it,” he says, looking up from the letter, like it’s a surprise. Remus never met the Potters, but you don’t raze the Ministry for someone you don’t have trust in.
It’s a long letter, pages of a chicken-scratch script Remus doesn’t try to make out. Sirius reads, at first elated, relieved, then confused. “That’s strange.”
Remus hums at him around his tea. Go on. I’m listening.
“James says Pete - he’s a friend of ours, Pete – has gone missing. He was here with me in Egypt, there’s no reason why he’d be gone,” he pales, “you’ve read the report, right?” Urgent eye contact, “did I… was he there? Was he one of them?”
“No wizards,” Remus rushes to tell him, as if that’s enough to make it better, “only Muggles, and they’re all fine by now.”
The rest of Sirius’ ham goes half to the cat and half to the owl. He shreds it into pieces, feeds them absentmindedly. Goes to his window and takes out cigarettes. Remus hasn’t seen him smoke in days.
“Want to go to the post office? Maybe the local birds will have better luck finding him.”
They do that. Sirius sends a letter with a smart-looking pharaoh eagle-owl. Asks Pete to get in touch, explains where to find him. “Maybe he’s hiding. If he saw me… Pete never had the strongest constitution. And I wouldn’t blame him, really.”
Sirius chain smokes as they walk, lights up the cigarettes with a click of his fingers when they’re out of view. It’s not the kind of magic Muggles pay attention to anyway – too small to raise eyebrows, too likely to be considered a trick of the eye.

Some bird symbolism
(Note: these are general, as birds have different meanings given to them by different cultures.)
Crows and ravens- Associated with Odin and wisdom in Norse mythology. Most often associated with night, death, and mourning. Seen as a bad omen (see crow/magpie rhyme)
Magpie- Playfulness, cunning, the trickster. A lone magpie is a bad omen (see crow/ magpie rhyme)
Pelican- Nurturing and self sacrifice
Geese- Traditional: Vigilance, protection, watchfulness. Modern: Chaos and assholery
Phoenix- Immortality, fire, the sun. The cycle of life, death, and rebirth
Pigeon- Traditional: Peace, prosperity. Modern: Uncleanliness, urban decay, the inner city
Albatross- Grace, good luck, the spirit of dead sailors (if only the Ancient Mariner knew before he took the shot)
Falcon- Speed, nobility, associated with the sun and seen as the protector of the pharaoh in ancient Egypt
Vulture- Death and decay. Western cultures perceive the vulture as evil. The Egyptians saw it as a protector, and many other cultures associate it with cleansing and holiness.
Eagle- Strength, nobility, patriotism. A two-headed eagle represents the ruler’s authority through both church and state
Swan- Grace, beauty, fidelity. Irish folklore sees the swan as the spirit of dead women and associated with the sea god Lir
Owl- Knowledge and wisdom to the ancient Greeks and Romans. Celtic Britain sees it as the outcast; hated by other birds and only able to fly at night. Otherwise associated with night, mystery, and death.

This design took so long to make…I’m so tired pls
ANYWAYS welcome
OwlKnight
I’ve never liked the fact Damian took upon the mantle of Batman, personally it always felt like he needed to find his own route in life, he’s better off with his own personality that are different from the paths set up for him by his parents.
Tumblr media
I took many inspirations from his Batman Beyond uniform and his robins uniforms.
The owl I chose is the “Pharoah Eagle’s owl” an owl in the Northern Africa, since Damian is Arabic I wanted his symbol to be closely related to that owl, but I couldn’t directly choose colours from the owl’s feathers since they looked to similar to his skin tone. Instead if you look at the mask, his eye holes are purposely red, to reflect the bright eyes the pharaoh’s eagle-owl has.

Note
Dary, I would very much like to hear about the angsty miitopia au unfolding. :)
*takes a deep breath* Okay. I shall provide you with the basic information. This will take forever but I AM READY (just transferred a bunch of screenshots from my Switch to my phone to give visuals lmao)
Under the cut because this includes massive spoilers for Miitopia
Marty is the hero of our game, just a regular guy from a place called Greenhorne. He came to Greenhorne town only to find it attacked by the so called Dark Lord (who I made Edna in this game). Edna steals the faces off Miis and plants them on monsters so they gain power and fight Marty. Marty agrees to go on a quest to find and defeat the Dark Lord. So far, so good.
On the quest, he meets other Miis willing to help him. Those are Jennifer, Paul (from the Pinheads) and Linda. They fight and stuff (and rescue King Sam and Princess Lorraine as well as help Lorraine convince her dad to marry her childhood friend George instead of the prince Biff that Sam wants her to marry. Guys those roles were PERFECT for them I swear. George was spineless in this game and had the perfect color scheme, and Biff ws absolutely useless. 10/10 casting from my part), but as soon as they get to the next kingdom, the Dark Lord straight up kidnaps Marty's friends and he's all alone again :(
Here's some screenshots from the castle before we move on
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marty watching his parents. Yeah.
I said Marty was left alone? Well, not completely. He's not alone in spirit - because in Greenhorne, he has had an encounter with the Great Sage Doc, who has saved his life with his magic (you can see where this is going). Marty meets him again in Neksdor, as well as his new party members - Dave, young Emmett, and 1986B Jennifer (I was legit running out of BTTF characters because I had a lot of the townspeople be characters like Seamus and Maggie. And Clara is my horse. She's a purple unicorn. Oh and my quizmaster is Bill Nye which, also, is 10/10 casting. I am proud of myself)
In this new desert land called Neksdor (pun of "next door"), Marty and team fight a pharaoh before having to move on to the next kingdom. Oh and unhinged versions of my OCs because, again, I was running out of BTTF characters. I even gave Western Union Guy and Terry the car mechanic roles.
Tumblr media
Edward Cobra.
Tumblr media
Citizen Valley Jen being possessed
Tumblr media
An impression of Neksdor (ft. Clara)
Next up, we had to go through the Realm Of The Fey, a fairy/elf kindgom. Once again, Edna kidnapped all my friends so I had to cast my OCs as new party members.
Tumblr media
(absolutely no context screenshot but welcome Helen, Anthony, and Marion)
I cast server friends as the Fab Fairies because I SWEAr Bobby G doesn't have enough female characters in this franchise.
@bg-sparrow was the eldest Fab Fairy and I had to fight her as an owl. I'm so sorry BG lmao
Tumblr media
After finishing off this kingdom, Marty got to head to Krakaton, where the Dark Lord hides out. His friends are once again kidnapped, and - much worse - Edna stole their faces, too!!
Marty discovers his friends with no faces and is absolutely devastated.
Enter the Great Sage.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The best part began: Doc joined Marty's team! Yay! Together, they went to rescue Marty's friends and had some endearing moments along the way :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at them. They're buddies. I love them.
In the end of this mission, they manage to rescue all of Marty's friends and Doc leaves again. And now, we are approaching the final battle against the Dark Lord in Edna's castle retreat.
That battle was surprisingly easy and BOOM, Marty wins!! Congrats!
But the game is far from over. It turns out that Edns was in fact possessed by the so called Dark Curse, and now the Curse is looking for a new body. Naturally, it attacks Marty, being angry with him for defeating the Dark Lord.
And then Doc appears and saves Marty once again.
Sacrificing himself in the process.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep - Doc is a villain now. And he's even more powerful than ever before, due to his Great Sage powers. This is heavy, am I right?
Marty is absolutely heartbroken :( But Jennifer hypes him up jsgfdjhs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, Marty, his team and this kind dragon named Dominic have to chase Darker Lord Doc and defeat him to free the Great Sage
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Marty had to do a bunch of side quests collecting jewels that open the entrance to Doc's hideout, the Sky Scraper...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(More no context images)
...he stood in front of its gates, wondering whether he was making the right choice...
Tumblr media
(I clicked No. Marty, being the selfless guy he is, did not think about himself afer a moment of consideration. It's funny, Marty never refers to the Darker Lord and Doc as the same person. It's so wholesome)
Tumblr media
And now, here we are. I'm on my way to the final FINAL boss of this game, but this plot is absolutely destroying me. This Mii RPG game has no right to be this angsty like. Why.
As a reward for going through all this, have a sketch of them I made yesterday :]
Tumblr media
I can't wait to rescue Doc from his misery 🫡 Thank you for reading, this game has me in a chokehold lmao
And thanks Nikki for the ask! It was fun rambling about all this
