The revival book was a really good concept because of how simple yet effective it is and how scary it would be for someone like Dream to have it, it doesnt need any more powers or whatever. Obviously the stuff with Ranboo being controlled by Dream to some extend has been planned for a really long time, and it does make sense, but they shouldve gone about it way differently. My fix is simple: bring DreamXD into this.

Like, right now it doesnt seem like Dream and DreamXD are connected in any meaningful way when Dream couldve been like, idk a worshipper of DreamXD who eventually earned his favor, or just a human that DreamXD thought was interesting and wanted to help occasionally so he'll keep entertaining him. Maybe he gets the revival book and immediately tries to test it out and then DreamXD appears and hes basically like "okay, i wont kill anyone for you or destroy anything or get too involved in all your petty mortal squabbles, but if you call for me I'll help you out bc Im so nice XD dont rely too much on me tho or else I'll kill you XD" and Dream is like "k i'll keep that in mind" and then when Ranboo shows up he calls for him like "okay, can you make me like, a mindlink to the new guy so I can control him" and XD is like "okay, sure, I wont help you anymore though" and Dream agrees and thats that. danny and his mom move from new jersey to los angeles in california. she keeps on hyping it up and when they get there it's just,,,,, dingy apartments so he already isn't happy. he had to leave his friends n school n all that shit. he goes to a beach party w/friends and sticks up for a cute girl but her ex (johnny lawrence) ends up beating his ass and makes a fool of him cause johnny has like,,,, Actual teaching about karate n shit but daniel doesn't. he eventually becomes friends w/the handyman for the apartments, my miyagi who's a first gen immigrant from japan. stand in dad that becomes Real Dad (he doesn't get w/momma larusso but does start to become danny's actual father figure.)

eventually danny goes to another fuckin party (you think he'd learn to keep to himself) after being bullied by johnny and his friends. he goes to the bathroom and hides as soon as he sees Da Cobras (just four other guys that go to cobra kai dojo lol) but eventually takes a hose and sprays a buncha fuckin water on johnny while he's holed up in a stall tryna roll a joint. obviously, johnny gets fuckin pissed and they end up chasing danny throughout town. mr miyagi sees this, intervenes, and ends up beating children's asses

one of johnny's friends ends up with an Arm Hurty so you see it in a sling for a while but it heals back up, nothing major

anyways, daniel gets all fuckin Angry Crying about how they know all this karate shit and how he doesn't so that means he's always gonna lose (granted, he could just,,,,,,, not provoke them like in the bathroom scene) so they go down to the cobra kai dojo and it's too expensive for just his mom to pay for. kreese is the teacher and he has a bunch of special forces vietnam paraphernalia n medals of honor n shit hanging up from his glory days(he doesn't say it outright but this man is RACIST i fucking KNOW IT) so miyagi goes to him n asks for a peace thing. daniel can learn w/them and they'll leave him alone but kreese just kinda laughs. an under 18 tournament is goin on so miyagi proposes that he'll teach daniel himself to go up against kreese's students but in exchange, these kids have to fuckin leave danny alone to train.

kreese likes Challenge so he agrees, fully getting a weird boner for "oughhhh yeah we're gonna fuckin break this kid's ARM"

daniel says WHAT THE HELL, MAN and miyagi makes him do a buncha chores for him night n day for muscle memory that'll help w/certain Schmoves. very cheesy but vv good. when danny gets fed up w/it, miyagi just fights his bitch ass n what daniel's been doing has been defense adjacent so he's able to finally act kinda competently in this sorta fight. lotsa training n stuff but just know eventually there's passive racism towards miyagi and he almost throws hands and tells them to fuckin get their bitch asses outta his sight. but the whole deal w/miyagi is that he's been in war so he no longer wants to be aggressive or offensive, his whole thing is defense only

best defense is No Be There. get outta that place before anything can start lmao, thats the first tip because OBVIOUSLY danny cannot leave people alone

eventually miyagi opens up to danny about how he was in the military for ww2 and how he lost his late wife and child while they were in internment camps. it's really heavy, actually

it turns out miyagi still has the note breaking the news to him and daniel finds it in his house after miyagi falls asleep

he keeps his medal of honor and all pictures hidden away, he fuckin hates those memories. it's a really good foil for kreese and the writing is fuckin GOOD

when daniel turns 18 i think? the wiki says that but it's also publicly edited so i'm assuming the tournament is for people younger than 18 and people who are eighteen kinda like,,,,, the uhh less than Or equal to sign in math

ANYWAYS, WHEN DANNY'S BIRTHDAY COMES, MIYAGI GIVES HIM AN ACTUAL GI

he also gives him one of the cars he fuckin polished for hours and hours and hours because miyagi already has a bunch of older ones he's working on

danny ends up taking his Love Inch Rest to the boardwalk or somethn with it and finally doesn't feel embarrassed to be w/allie, someone who you can tell comes from a middle class family

honest to god this movie touches on subtle classism too and it hits Too close to home

anyways, allie is late to their date so daniel goes to the country club thing through the back and kitchens and he sees johnny kiss her, he bumps into someone w/Spaghet and he's just,,,, on the floor covered in it and his white shirt is fucking ruined. he runs out of there crying while allie tries to explain that it Actually wasn't what it looked like

kreese forces bobby to do an illegal move to fuck up daniel's leg and that forces bobby to get dq'ed for something he's been working for all year along w/hurting someone he never wanted to really HURT

where one of my favorite scenes comes from because that scene says SO MUCH even if you don't watch ANY of the rest of the movie

like, bobby is always the one to tell the others off when they're starting to seriously harm danny. he mediates n tells tommy off when he tries to bait johnny into responses. he doesn't want any SERIOUS harm to come to danny or anyone they make fun of, so kreese forcing him to fuck up daniel's leg and bobby listening anyways says,,,,,, a Lot. because he's scared of kreese and what he'll do if he doesn't listen. i'm not making this up, kreese is canonically abusive and the opening to the sequel takes place right after the tournament and it's really upsetting to me lmao

he puts johnny in a chokehold and smashes his fuckin hand through a car window, breaks the second place medal in fuckin throws it out into the rest of the parking lot, and miyagi has to step in yet again

Obi-Wan gets there and Anakin is SOOOOOO happy he’s so happy Obi-Wan was preparing for some kind of awkwardness but both Anakin and Padme are very happy to see him but super tired from managing newborns and immediately Obi-Wan ends up doing something like buying groceries or cleaning up for them (maybe he’s even like, got magic touch where the kids just fall asleep instantly when he holds them) and they’re like OH MY GOD PLEASE STAY AND KEEP DOING WHAT YOURE DOING so he’s like well okay…i suppose i can stay for another week or so and help them out since I don’t have much to do back at the temple (famous last words)

Dude just stays. He doesn’t get a room (he was offered one but turned it down to sleep on the couch because he’s got a chronic case of Whatever Helps You Sleep at Night Disease and it’s fatal so he’s like “yeah I’m still visiting I’m here temporarily I’m still a Jedi”). He kind of becomes like unclemaid and hangs around indefinitely.

Coincidentally the council has not called him back for any duties. Maybe at one point like three-four months in Mace comes call him back for a mission and Obi-Wan is just a complete ball of intangible stress because he thinks he’s being called back but can’t articulate why he’s so stressed at the idea. And Mace is like. Oh my god okay maybe the move here is to just leave him be. And so backpedals really quick and was like “yeah no I’m just here to visit I’m not here for anything” and Obi-Wan is visibly relieved.

It should go without saying that out of proximity to the order Obi-Wan’s latent repressed homo tendencies are starting to rear their head and he’s like. Incredibly ashamed because not only is it his ex padawan but it’s also A MARRIED MAN…WITH CHILDREN. Obi-Wan is anguished and miserable but also can’t leave. Self flagellation

Meanwhile now that he isn’t beholden to Jedi repression and is free to love his wife and kids—and having been given unspoken confirmation that Obi-Wan does care about him because he literally never left and just helps take care of the kids instead of doing Jedi shit—Anakin is maybe perceptive to this attitude change and kind of clocks Obi-Wan’s weird ass behavior and is like…is this what I think it is…? Surely not.

Padmé matches Anakin’s freak the best of anyone in the franchise and I also think understands him the best of anyone and so I’m not even sure how much of a conversation they have about the logistics of this, but love is sort of the most important thing and I think she’d probably understand that Anakin has just so much love to give and is fine bc she knows his capacity for it doesn’t dilute how much he loves her or whatever.

Now Anakin is in full “poke the bear” mode and is testing his theory via good ol’ Anakin courtship style and Obi-Wan is just increasingly more and more miserable and like OH MY GOD THE ANGUISH…IM THE WORST EVER…KILL ME…to the point where he’s like actually you know what maybe it’s time for me to leave (6 or so years in)

Anakin is pissed about this, Padme is pissed about this, the twins are upset. Anakin eventually pressures him and Obi-Wan reveals he’s in love with him and that’s why he has to go. Anakin is like. Okay and? And obi wan is like. WHAT.

Instead of being upset anakin is like. Partly ego affirmed and is like…YIPPEEEE!!! He’s just very happy he has confirmation that the two adults he cared about most in the world care about him too.

Padme probably gives Obi-Wan a talk at some point where she’s like. Anakin has such a capacity for love that I don’t think really you or I could ever truly understand. And I think that’s part of why we each love him and wouldn’t want him to lose to repress that. Also he is a handful. I need alone time sometimes and he Does Not. (This is my way of telling you we can share Anakin). They still get jealous and stuff or whatever sometimes because they’re not like him but are overall fine with the situation.

Idk what else but after this Obi-Wan stays forever and gets his back blown out and Padme does too because they have shared custody and Anakin gets both of the people he loves most and bounces between them like a ping pong ball and just basks in love forever the end

its wild how they didnt really delve into the whole ‘war crimes’ thing w/the hunter association lmao. idk if this movie is canon so that might be why....they just brushed over the fact that the HA was like, running concentration camps and murdering entire groups of people. wild 

this movie was fun!! it felt more like hxh than the last movie, which v much felt like a generic anime movie. this one felt more in character. it did fall into typical anime movie tropes sometimes but the characters felt more like themselves here, espec w/the point of the story this seems to be set at 

like gons anger and all that - while it obvs comes from a place of love and kindness, he can get carried away sometimes...i feel like we’re gonna rlly delve into the negative impact of this in the CA arc and i am both so ready and not ready at all 

this movie was hella gay which i appreciate. love the gays 

all in all this was fun!! i wish there were more hxh movies lmao i love anime movies. well at least theres the musical LMAOOO im gonna watch that soon
