Diomedes really cranked the "simp-o-meter for Odysseus" from 0 to 12 in approximately 0.6 seconds in book 10 (choose ur spy buddy) and im snort-laughing.

Partially because of how Unnecessarily Extra Diomedes is.

And then even more so because of how Extremely Done Odysseus is in his reply (every time he uses the "long-suffering Odysseus" epithet i fucking DIE laughing. I can FEEL the -_-)

But also, because I feel like the opposite is more typical (Odysseus having the flowery flattering speeches and Diomedes just, like, "read at 2pm"-ing him in return):

I am choosing to headcanon that Dio is very subtly/very gently teasing/mocking Odysseus. And that Ody has done the "oh i pick Diomedes the incredible, the unmatchable, unwinnable force of the gods' will!!!" thing to him recently and Dio is now just throwing it back at him in a "do u hear what u sound like when u talk???" Kind of way.

Which is why Ody is peak "i am Unamused by this, diomedes" in the scene. Because he knows he's being gently roasted in a way the others likely won't pick up on/which is Just For Him.

The alarm blared in the station, another call. "Station 118, Car accident on Highway Five..." They all darted to the trucks as the woman continued to tell details of the call. Today had been seemingly slammed for the 118, medical calls, house fires, apartment fires, and some idiot who set their house on fire with an illegal burn pit in their yard. Buck put all his turn-out gear on and got himself into the truck with the rest of the guys.

"Hey, Buck when do we get to meet that cop lady you keep droning on about?" Chim pokes a little fun at his brother-in-law with a bit of a shit-eating grin on his face.

"Oooh, you have a new lady love?" Eddie joined in on the antics to tease his best friend.

"Aye, Buck's back to women. He's got taste again." Henrietta stuck her tongue out as she teased Buck. "A superior choice." She added to tease the men around her.

"All right, all right." Buck laughs and blushes a bit before continuing to speak. "I- I've only been on a few dates with her, but I feel so much more of a connection with her; she's so much more open and understanding than Tommy. Tommy was so closed off to a lot of the ways I think about stuff, like the curses or, you know...all that stuff. I mean I don't even get why he was dating in general if he's got such a negative outlook on things. Anyways, You all know that but this girl...God, she feels so easy to be around, like I don't have to even remotely worry." He smiled as he spoke about her, everything felt easy but special, and his eyes lit up when he talked about her.

"Are you sure she's not a saint or something for putting up with your ass?" Chim teased Buck light-heartedly.

"No, but seriously man. We are so happy for you. She seems like a catch." Eddie added before giving him a clap on the shoulder. Evan went to speak, but as soon as he did, they arrived at the call.

Buck and Bobby's chests were filled with dread as they saw it. A police vehicle was pinned between an SUV and a car. They both prayed it wouldn't be their respective partners.

Bobby glanced up and saw Athena, who rushed over to him to give him the rundown of the situation.

"There's a woman with a child in the car. The kid seems all right, the mother is pinned below the steering wheel. The driver of the SUV seems intoxicated. Our rookie seems to be unconscious, and its hard get to her with how the vehicles are positioned."

"Alright, Hen and Eddie, both of you know what to do. Buck, get the jaws and the halligan. Chim go see if you can get the police officer to respond. I'll assess the woman and her child. Let's work on the car first. We will handle everything one step at a time." Bobby instructed everyone very briefly, and everyone rushed to do as they were told. As far as they know, it's a routine call, and they will handle it like one.

They assess the intoxicated male and get him situated to be sent off to the hospital and work on the mother and her child, removing the steering wheel from her lap and got her daughter off to where they need to be, and everything seems to be moving swimmingly.

They were moving swiftly and quickly until Buck saw who it was, who the police officer was... You, or he was fairly certain of it; it was hard to tell at this angle, but still, his heart dropped.

He worked even harder and faster, Bobby noticed his worry and swiftly told him to stand aside. Buck being Buck, he didn't even remotely wanna try that, but he was pulled away from the vehicle by Chimney, who held him there until he calmed down enough to sit and watch the extraction of you from the police cruiser.

As soon as they started removing the limp body from the vehicle, his heart was all in a wack, and so was his brain.

"You guys need any extra help with anything? Athena wanted me to ask y'all." A voice asked from behind the two of them and Buck's heart jumped as he turned around and found your face. You were okay. Thank god, you were okay. He swiftly pulled you to his chest in a tight caring hug.

"Hey? Hey? What is it?" You ask him with a worried tone as you hug him back and guide him out of view of the gathering crowd of people. Evan started crying; he didn't even know at this point. Maybe the shock of it all was just too much to bear for him at this moment; he thought he had lost you before fully getting to love you completely, and that scared him. You hugged him and rubbed his back with one arm, and with the other hand, you ran your hand through his hair.

"It's okay, I'm right here. I'm right here. It's all okay." You whisper as you slowly rock him and continue to soothe his worries. Today was rough and it was clear he was at his wit's end with the thought of you being having possibly been dead. He held onto you for so long until Bobby called for him to get back on the fire truck; the night was almost over, and shift change was due. Evan let go of you hesitantly.

"Hey, um...Can you stay over tonight? I really need someone close tonig-" he started to say before you interrupted him.

"Yeah. I can do that. I gotta get back to the station to end my shift, but I will be there. Okay?" You asked with a certain reassuring tone very swiftly.

"Okay." He responded before he got back onto the engine. Evan loved that about you, you spoke so very certainly as if you were making the promise as you spoke the words.

As you arrived at his place, you both had at your respective stations, so all there was to spend time with one another. Evan had hopped out of the shower and slipped into the Spider-Man boxers you had got him for his birthday, which was recently after you met him. Buck had said it was unnecessary since you two had just met, but you got them for him since he had made a joke about 'secretly wearing superhero undies' on your first date.

He offered you a shirt to change into, which, of course, you went to the bathroom and quickly did; he put on some random movie. Buck knew just how exhausted the two of you were so he turned off the lights before you both laid down. Not even twenty minutes into the movie, you were both passed out as the TV flashed over your sleeping faces. Evan cuddled into you that night, his cheek smashed against your boob as he drooled onto you.

He's 46 he's not making his contact names all fancy, and the pfps he has for each of them are literally pictures of a physical photo he took so he'd have a picture to put there

Warriors's phone:

Time: 'Mr. Forrester', because he is slightly scared of offending Time somehow and is always just super respectful to him. He's the only father figure War has EVER had, and he's really scared of fucking up and losing that. No contact pic

Twilight: 'husband (derogatory)', the contact pic is a REALLY bad screenshot of Jacob Black from the Twilight movies

Sky: 'husband (affectionate)', and the contact pic is Sky upside down grinning like he's an extra in a horror movie who’s been possessed or something

Oooh okay sorry it took a me a while to answer this I’ve been thinking about responses

1: HOLY SHIT that’s so cool I would love to see that project come together if you end up posting things anywhere 🥺 I’m working on a revised pdf version (and updating the ao3 version as I go) to print and bind myself, but hand transcribing is so sick omg /gen

2: I’m hoping these descriptors make sense because they do in my brain but describing handwriting is,,, kinda hard haha 😅 (going based on order of appearance of handwriting in the first book)

Jamie’s handwriting is neat and orderly but simple. There’s not a lot of flourishes to it, especially since often they’re transcribing things for Rae, so it’s very much “getting this information down quick but readabe”. I think they’re the kind of person who like,,, isn’t super consistent with their cursive? So there’s some print letters occasionally in the words but mostly cursive.

Rae’s handwriting is thin and scrawling cursive. He was taught elegant, flourishing handwriting, but over the years as writing has become about getting down as many notes and thoughts as possible, it’s become compressed and rushed and frantic. Most of the time it’s readable by others, but not always

Athena’s handwriting is sharp and scratchy and blocky. It’s a rough handwriting, almost. Probably more print than cursive.

I think Easton’s writing, is very solid and matter of fact, in a way. Like very clear, distinct print letters. They are making sure the words are getting across. It’s usually clean and clear but once they’re corrupted it starts to get shaky and rough.

Strawberri’s handwriting is almost like what Rae’s should look like. Curled and elegant swirling cursive. Flowery, even, if you’ll excuse the pun. I think unlike the others who are writing for notes and science and such, Momboo’s writing is much more relaxed and dignified, almost.

I think that’s all the characters who have letters or documents written in Brink?? But let me know if I’ve missed any or if you wanted me to go into other characters, or characters handwriting from the other books!!

And at the end of the day like,,, don’t take this as gospel or something you need to match, necessarily!! If you have a vision for what their handwriting is in your headcanon of the story, that’s just as much canon to you as my thoughts on the matter are to me! That’s the beauty of fan works and headcanons is that you can make it your own!! And especially with something as intricate as transcribing the fic there’s so much of your own feeling put into it, there’s not a wrong way to interpret any of the handwritings or anything like that!! 🫶🫶 /geb
