finally watching keefe's entire media availability from the other day and reflecting, and it makes me so sad, lol. love or hate keefe, he was brought in to be the contrast to mike babcock... to be calmer and bring more respect in his interpersonal relationships with the players, and i think he did a great job of that. i don't think he lost the room, i just think the leafs need to see a different kind of coaching... different system... to give them the best chance to advance in the playoffs with the way the team's constructed, but you can't watch that media availability and say he doesn't care or wasn't trying or is a bad temperament to coach this team. his whole approach WAS to listen to the players needs and be a calmer presence, and i've enjoyed that a lot about him. i know some people don't love that he handles accountability player to player differently, but i think that's a mature way to go about it knowing he has different kinds of relationships with them all, and they all care abt the privacy of those methods to different degrees. all of these core guys have had insane seasons being coached by him, and that's not nothing... i'm onboard with the idea that change is needed, but i like keefe a lot as a person, and i think he was a great choice to pivot to post-babcock, regardless of the playoff outcomes. hope he finds success elsewhere in the league if he is gone....

Watching episodes featuring the Kankers, especially from the earlier seasons, the more and more it feels like people ignore how they "weaponize" affection rather than hold any form of legitimate romantic interest in the Eds.

What I mean is that a lot of people still seem to interpret the three as being absolutely enamored in the Eds. This is a wild interpretation, because every facet of their interactions really just stems from old-fashioned bullying to me. I mean, there is clearly the "assault" factor, but even setting that problematic factor aside, I can name other moments between the characters where that was not the case, and the Kankers focus was to instead humiliate and belittle the Eds. Such as: making fun of Eddy due to his height, stealing their clubhouse, infiltrating the Eds "mind-control" scam and making them act like dogs, generally just aggressively beating them up. Even when a "romantic" aspect comes into play, it is more about the Kankers weaponizing it to humiliate the Eds: going out of their way to parade the Eds as their "carriage horses" after getting "married", the gross pet names, calling them "boyfriends" in general. It really reads to me as a farce. I can recall back to my experiences in middle school where it was a common tactic to call someone their "boyfriend/girlfriend" in a jeering fashion that did not imply any form of positive association. You could tell you were being made the butt of a joke simply due to who it was coming from. I clearly remember a guy asking one of my friends "out" only as a complicated way to make fun of her.

This feels exactly like what the Kankers are doing. Or at least, a reason for why they are so persistent. It is an entertaining game for them, and they can tell the Eds are vulnerable which makes it way easier for them to get the upper hand. Could there be some innermost romantic interest that just has trouble properly manifesting? Maybe, but that really starts to veer on headcanon territory (which is fine, but in addressing what is actually apparent in the show I really don't see much grounds for this). The Kankers are first and foremost bullies. I think taking that aspect out revokes a certain element of what makes them interesting in the first place.

Im still on the fence whether or not she does.

Her glade in the game is a huge sprawling village-like space that others live in so shes not out there alone. But it is possible that the ppl living there are mostly temporary refugees because she uses her glade as a place of protection for refugees during wars.

Most of her canon interaction with other faeries is with Jhudora but there is the odd time shes referenced talking to others so she definitely has other friends who are faeries. like in this neopedia article with a group of other earth faeries (in which shes also talking about jhudora lol...)

Who she doesnt talk to is Fyora's court, but theres a common sense of frustration with her court among most ppl so that doesnt seem too strange. Its also one of the rumours as to why she left and is the more likely one after the faerie festival. Its clear she feels bad about whatever happened between her and Jhudora so the other rumour of her finding Jhudora did something evil doesnt look true.

Illusen was either part of or interacted with this court at one point until she left

so she seems purposefully secluded from Fyora's court but not all faeries and probably gets along with most of them.

what is it with the aro community basically reinventing amatornomativity but including (some of) us this time. acting like QPRs are the solution to your problems and obviously theyre more meaningful and important than friendships and what do you mean you don't want a platonic life partner? well if you're "just friends" they're gonna leave you for their romantic relationship eventually — no, no, you can't mean that, "best friend" is either just the same thing as a QPR or not good enough to stay in your life forever. you don't like how you probably won't ever be able to have kids because who's going to let a single trans man adopt a child, and even if they did how would you support them, and no for the last time i don't want to marry anyone even platonically. i do not want a partner ever. ever.

you have problems? society isn't structured for you? you have to learn to navigate socially and legally in a world that's built for couples and that's a very distressing experience and you're invisible if you don't loudly proclaim your aromanticism after every room you walk in — but we're gonna keep arguing about shipping. what do you mean you have more problems than people being stupid in fandom? what, is the one aroace character who got "confirmed" off-screen and never mentioned outside of that at all not good enough for you? that doesn't actually change anything for you societally?

but you surely want a QPR. it's totally not just us forcing some watered-down romance on you after you said you didn't want it (but did you know aros can date too? surely you didn't forget that. aros can still love and we hate that you're implying they can't). all of your problems with society hating you for your singleness and aro-ness would be solved if you just got a partner — no, a platonic one, why would you assume otherwise? this is nothing like telling a gay man to just suck it up and marry a woman. see, that would be homophobic, but you? didn't you know that aros can still date?
