I due popoli infatti ottennero, a nord dei Pirenei, una serie di vittorie contro l'esercito romano, favorito dalle rivalità all'interno dell'aristocrazia senatoria, la cui sconfitta nella battaglia di Arausio (Arancione) nel 105 ne costituisce il culmine. Queste sconfitte terrorizzarono la popolazione romana, risvegliando lo spettro dell'invasione di Roma da parte dei Galli nel IV secolo a.C.

Week 7: Hard Boiled & Ju Dou- Yanissa Agbigay

For week 7, I chose the films Hard Boiled and Ju Dou. Both films are international and Asia films. The first film we will be discussing is Ju Dou, to recap Ju Dou is the brutal and sad story of a women’s reality in rural China. It is one of the most remarkable. After the film was released, it was followed by Raised the Red Latterm and The Story of Qui Ju. All these films were highly acclaimed internationally and are great pieces of cinematic expression. Not to mention, that Ju Dou was nominated for many different awards. To name a few they are, Best Foreign Feature Film and Best Foreign Language Film (nominated).

Also within the same year release of 1991, NASA launches the STS-44 mission in November. The Space Shuttle Atlantis carried astronauts Frederick Gregory, Terence Henricks, James Voss, F. Story Musgrave, Mario Runco, Jr., and Thomas Hennen. It was a Department of Defense mission that had the primary objective of deploying a Defense Support Program satellite. The payload also included several experiments. It concluded after nearly 7 days in space.

Both films are similar, but a key difference is that it is a Chinese film that is based on rural China and not an action film like Hard Boiled. This film specifically was banned for a few years in China, but the ban has since been lifted. The Chinese government gave permission for its viewing in July 1992. Although Ju Dou has had its share of controversy, many viewers turn the other way and disagree. Some admit that it is dark but also find it enjoyable to watch.

My second film is titled, Hard Boiled directed by John Woo is my first choice of film for this week. The storyline is about A cop who loses his partner in a shoot-out with gun smugglers and goes on a mission to catch them. In order to get closer to the leaders of the ring he joins forces with an undercover cop who's working as a gangster hitman. They use all means of excessive force to find them. The film was John Woo's last Hong Kong film before his transition to Hollywood. Hard Boiled was released in Hong Kong in 1992 to a generally positive audience reception, but was not as commercially successful as Woo's previous films such as A Better Tomorrow and The Killer. Reception from Western critics was much more positive, with many critics and film scholars describing its action scenes as being among the best ever filmed.

When filming Hard Boiled, more than two hundred guns were used, all of which were real. The film stars Chow Yun-Fat as Tequila, who is a veteran Hong Kong Police Force Inspector who takes on a crime syndicate that is smuggling arms through the city. Two Norico Type 54 pistols are used by Inspector Tequila. Alan who is played by Tony Leung also uses a firearm in the movie, but it is a different type. This new gun model is called the Davis P-3 pistol.

Within the same year Hard Boiled was released, Hurricane Andrew happened. Hurricane Andrew was a very powerful and destructive Category 5 Atlantic hurricane that struck the Bahamas, Florida, and Louisiana in August 1992. It is the most destructive hurricane to ever hit Florida in terms of structures damaged or destroyed and remained the costliest in financial terms until Hurricane Irma surpassed it 25 years later. Andrew was also the strongest landfalling hurricane in the United States in decades and the costliest hurricane to strike anywhere in the country until it was surpassed by Katrina in 2005.

All in all, I believe, another difference is that Hard Boiled isn’t based on a country about how women are being treated.

Essendosi ormai fatto tardi, gli si avvicinarono i suoi discepoli dicendo: «Il luogo è deserto ed è ormai tardi; congedali, in modo che, andando per le campagne e i villaggi dei dintorni, possano comprarsi da mangiare». Ma egli rispose loro: «Voi stessi date loro da mangiare». Gli dissero: «Dobbiamo andare a comprare duecento denari di pane e dare loro da mangiare?». Ma egli disse loro: «Quanti pani avete? Andate a vedere». Si informarono e dissero: «Cinque, e due pesci». E ordinò loro di farli sedere tutti, a gruppi, sull’erba verde. E sedettero, a gruppi di cento e di cinquanta. Nacido de noble familia romana en Nórico, vive austero entre limosnas y ayuno, escuchado por potentes e incluso por bárbaros, impresionados por su santidad. Funda monasterios, soccorre a los pobres, defiende aldeas de las correrías de los bárbaros, uniendo acción y contemplación.

Martirologio Romano: En la antigua provincia romana de Nórico, en las riberas del Danubio, san Severino, presbítero y monje, que llegado a esta región después de la muerte de Atila, príncipe de los hunos, defendió a los pueblos inermes, aplacó a los violentos, convirtió a los infieles, fundó monasterios e impartió instrucción religiosa a los que la necesitaban (c. 482).

Durante el siglo V el imperio romano de Occidente se vio invadido poco a poco por los visigodos, ostrogodos, vándalos, francos, etc. En la devastación sólo las autoridades y estructuras cristianas constituyeron un punto firme para la supervivencia. Éste es el contexto histórico en el que se presenta la figura y la obra de san Severino, que nació de una noble familia romana hacia el año 410. Después de una estancia en Oriente, hacia el 454 se estableció cerca del Danubio, en donde construyó monasterios para albergar a los habitantes amenazados y para que, al mismo tiempo, fueran puntos de irradiación del Evangelio entre las tribus bárbaras.

Inclinado tanto a la vida contemplativa y eremítica como a la actividad misionera, y favorecido con el carisma de la profecía, san Severino hizo también previsiones sobre el plano humano temporal. En efecto, comprendió que el movimiento de los jóvenes pueblos bárbaros era indetenible y que la decadente sociedad romana recuperaría su vigor gracias a estas nuevas fuerzas.

Pero era necesario que esas mentes fueran iluminadas por las verdades del Evangelio, y para ello había que entrar en contacto directo con ellas. Con un gesto valiente que le ganó la admiración de los rudos guerreros, llegó hasta Comagén, ya en mano de los enemigos; su concreta caridad para con los necesitados le conquistó definitivamente el corazón sencillo de los “bárbaros”, comenzando por el de los jefes. Gibuldo, rey de los alamanos, le tenía “suma reverencia y afecto”, como dice su biógrafo Eugipo, y lo escuchaba con respeto, dócil como un hijo; Flaciteo, rey de los rugos, “lo consultaba en las empresas peligrosas como a un oráculo celestial”.

No faltaron signos del cielo que confirmaban sus palabras. Un día la nuera de Flaciteo, contra el parecer de Severino, lo había convencido de que no les diera la libertad a los prisioneros; Severino la amonestó enérgicamente y misma noche el sobrino de Flaciteo cayó prisionero de otra tribu bárbara y obtuvo la libertad sólo por intervención de Severino.

Respetado y amado por la gente humilde como por los reyes y guerreros, vivió muy pobremente, sin sacar ninguna ventaja material para sí mismo: vestía la misma túnica tanto en invierno como en verano, dormía pocas horas acostado en el suelo y con cilicios, y se dice que en cuaresma sólo comía una vez por semana.

Murió el 8 de enero del año 482. Sus veneradas reliquias reposan en Frattamaggiore (Nápoles) junto al mártir Sosso.

- They met in Dio's mansion and had the time to get pretty close, initially through geeking out about mutual interests and then by simply vibing together.

- Pucci has some degree of separation anxiety and sticks to Kakyouin probably more than necessary, most of his time is spent either with him or with Dio. Gotta make sure the emotional support vampire and the weird kid he likes are both doing alright.

- They both like art, but Kakyouin prefers painting and is skilled with acrylics, gouache and such, while Pucci prefers sketching with graphite and charcoals. They like watching each other draw.

- Pucci has sketched portraits of Kakyouin and if asked about them, he can just say he makes portraits of everyone at the mansion- which is true, but also he draws Kakyouin just a bit more than he does everyone else.

- Neither of them enjoys feelings talk so their main displays of affection are physical contact and mutual infodumping.

- They're pretty liberal when it comes to physical contact like cuddling, hand-holding or cheek kisses, even as just a platonic thing since Pucci is used to being touchy with his family and Dio. He initiates most of it. Before they even realized they had feelings for each other they probably spent most of their time tangled together anyways.

- They're a good influence on each other, sort of. Dio is a good friend to Pucci but he's an adult and the kid would probably do better with other kids around as well, so Kak is also convenient.

- Friendships hit different when it's someone your age who shares the same things that isolated you from your peers.

- Kakyouin (5'10 at 17) holds the height and age difference over Pucci's (5'7 at 16) head almost constantly even if it's just a year and three inches.

- They both have cold hands usually, so it's just them mutually shoving their hands under each other's shirt for warmth.

- Ideal date: breaking into a museum together in the dead of night

- Or going out in town at the local open air market

- Pucci has a sweet tooth and is pretty jealous of his food. Kakyouin has made it a point to steal it whenever he can.

- POV you're Dio and you hear Pucci screaming at Kakyouin to "give back his fucking cookies before he turns him into a detox smoothie" from downstairs. This is the fourth time in a month that it happens.

- Stand Shenanigans entail: Whitesnake biting the green part of Hierophant's arm out of curiosity. (History repeats when Star Platinum bites Hierophant as well later on). ok from here on out ig its just misc stand headcanons seasoned with homosexuality.

- My Whitesnake design has an actual snake tail because canon-divergent designs go brrrr and everyone uses it as a pillow. It's. A very rude and very stinky pillow due to its acid powers but pillow nonetheless.

- It wraps around the people it likes and whenever Kakyouin is around while it's out, chances are it's gonna be all over him in seconds.

- Same goes with Green. If it's around Enrico, it's probably gonna have a tendril around his arm.

- Green is very touchy with Kakyouin as well but it doesn't speak- rather communicating in chirps and beeps. Whitesnake hates touching strangers, but it has no problem with it if it's someone it likes. It's pretty vocal and brutally honest, despite its speech being slow and slurred. It often can't form a complete sentence but it has no trouble bullying people.

Collaboration between C. Snatch Z. Norico Sunayama and Kazuki Suzuki. His earlier work in the late 90s. This photo was exhibited at WATARI-UM museum in Shibuya and an art gallery in Ebisu. C. Snatch Z. is a performer of Dumb Type(multimedia art performance group in Kyoto). She is a very exciting model and this young photographer was very affected to her attitude to art. The fateful encounter dictated his identity as a photographer.
