Adding onto this to talk about the tragedy of the World Eaters because i will never not take the opportunity to talk about my violent babies <3

So picture this: you're a legionary, infused with the genetic material of a being said to be greater, mightier, more noble and resplendent than you've ever known a creature to be. He is the son of the Emperor, your great lord, and you would lay down your lives for him.

After years of searching, you finally get word that he has been found, but when you go to meet him, he's just... Broken. This rabid, raging thing, a distorted mess of a creature who's had everything taken from him, who had his chance at greatness ripped away from him from the moment he landed on that Emperor forsaken planet. But your resolve is unbroken; he is your lord, and you wish to serve him, and so you shall.

But it's never enough.

Every single time, you fail to live up to his expectations, and every single time you all bear the pain of his punishment. But you keep on trying, keep on fighting in his name, hoping that you can get it right this time, because to see him satisfied would be everything to you.

And eventually, you do it: you finally fulfill his orders to the very letter, but there's a cost to it. You have all taken on his torment alongside him. All sense of compassion, empathy, and reason have been stripped from you, and the only time you're not in utter Agony is when you inflict pain on another creature.

And he is finally happy with you.

You're his sons now.

And as time goes on, your legion descends further into bloodshed, madness, and crazed violence, until even your loyalty to the Emperor is gone, and you give yourselves over to a real Monster. A God of blood, warfare, violence, and skulls.

The War Hounds fell from the Emperor's loyal soldiers, slogging through violent battles and searching diligently for their lord, to being little more than feral, bloodthirsty animals.

I just realized why my love for the Iron Warriors and (pre-Heresy) Emperor's Children

They're both particularly tragic Legions.

The Iron Warriors took the shit jobs of the Great Crusade, and usually not particularly willingly -- they got the scraps nobody else wanted. But they soldiered forth in mud, blood, and filth for centuries, enduring grueling conditions and horrible losses, carrying the essential battles of the Crusade on their backs without hope of recognition or glory. Their successes were never validated, their losses in achieving those successes never recognized. Meanwhile all that time, they got to watch the other legions who did NOT endure such hellish conditions get the glory and adulation of the Imperium. And it broke them. And when Horus promised them a beloved place in his New World Order, the Iron Warriors, utterly starved for love and recognition of their efforts and their losses, joined him... only to be treated EXACTLY THE SAME WAY under the Heretic Regime. And it broke them again.

And I look at this long-suffering legion, these scrappy survivalists, and can't help but go "I see your successes and your sacrifices. I care. ...but did you guys SERIOUSLY have to commit to that whole Daemonculaba bit? Because seriously, that was fucking disgusting."

Meanwhile, the Emperor's Children were dealt such a bad hand at the start, with only a few hundred viable marines, and yet Fulgrim took them and made them the pride of the Adeptus Astartes, so much so that they were called the Emperor's Children. They were the apex, the very finest. They embodied all the best of what it meant to be a Space Marine... and then Chaos brought them crashing down SO HARD and SO FAST that, just a few years after their fall, they weren't even soldiers anymore, just a bunch of drug-fueled hedonists rampaging across the Galaxy looking for their next forbidden high. By the time of the Siege of Terra, they barely committed anything to the battle because they were too busy grinding up random people to turn them into space cocaine -- there was no way that as blitzed and as high as they were that they were going to have the coherency of mind to even know what the intended strategy even WAS.

Their tragedy was that they were the highest, the best and brightest, and nobody crashed lower. They don't even have any real pride in themselves anymore. It's all about the next thrill, the next fix. All they care about is getting another experience to set their hearts pumping again, and they don't care how it happens. How far the mighty, how high the paragon, has fallen.

Chaos Marine: I'm a VETERAN of the LONG WAR.

For almost a year now I've been working on and off on a paper piecing quilt pattern of Astartes helmets. I just think they're neat.

I have given myself quite the challenge, not least of which is that the designs are not consistent across official GW artwork. But this one I think I nailed. It's a Noise Marine Helmet complete with the mohawk, made out of intentionally clashing patterned fabrics. The wall hanging is around 50x100cm, with free motion quilting. It's a gift for the wonderful @tagedeszorns.

I saw a couple of drawings of Angel Dust as an Emperor's Children Chaos Space Marine so I had to draw Lute as a Sister of Battle to match him. It fits them so much !!

Kitbashed and speedpainted a Daemon Prince. I'm ridiculously happy with how he turned out. (but he is a nightmare to photograph because of all the details, bright colours and field of depth since he is so pointy 😅)

The body is Daemon Prince. The claw, whip and necklace are from the Keeper of Secrets box. His hair is from the Avatar of Khaine box. The base is me just glueing weird shit together and hoping it fits 😅

Completed the Noise Marine mini that I picked up before Christmas using neon paints that glow in the dark (covering maybe 80% of the mini) which leads to this beautiful, aggressively colourful bastard 😁

Very happy with this 😊 got an awesome looking video as well but I might have to post that separately with a strobe warning 🤣 hoping to see an entire band released in the Emperor's Children set coming out later this year 😁
