Just thinking how Sauron would need to continue his act of wounded puppy who didn't rest for a week without proper medical care. Bet this last one hurt his pride, bouncing on horse. Was he thinking this would make him look even more pathetic to earn more pity points and attention from Galadriel?

Me gushing about dark birthday events (mainly pt 3)

man, I love when stories start off with something out of left field and then refuse to elaborate of it until later, and by then I’m invested. Start off with the hero wanting Atlas wiped off the face of the earth and you slowly start going ‘yea this place should be burned to the ground’, french kiss

Also love stories that take inspirations from myths, because ya know it going to be satisfying to watch the downfall

the temp items description have been fun to use as writing prompts for Esther and Dage’s interactions :D

Love the fact that Dage and Slaine test the hero’s resolve in Atlas’s slaughter and them immediately doubling down on it

Also accurate ES!Esther depiction and a bit of AoR Esther when she drops the hero act

Firstly, love that older Npcs are getting brought back and having character development

Narrative foils that contrasty talk shit together 

Imagine this, the hero’s mind space. They’re the one at the wheel, trying not to fall asleep. The Beast is just there, watching the destruction while eating popcorn. And Dage is rummaging through the hero’s memories while giving his two cents to keep them awake

And the Endless is like a sleep paralysis demon thats is slowly manifesting in the corner

Side note, the amount of trust in the hero to just be ok with the idea them looking at his memories without asking is sweet

the hero, forcibly shoving anything related to Malgor and their other kids in to a lockbox, shallowing the key, and throwing the box into the ocean: what family? I definitely don’t have a family, nope

Now the question is it because they’re actively avoiding think about Malgor, taking Drakath threat of killing anyone who learns truth seriously, or a mix of both. Who knows

Maleagant being the one to give Zedek shit for how he used his kids was great

It kinda gives an explanation to why EDoT was purple in the timeline where they killed the QoM, if they somehow aligned their being with Chaos

I really hope this doest come back as a thing that the Jus Divinum uses to literally use the hero as a weapon against Evil or whatever their end goal is

I really hope this doesn’t come back at all, but its gonna and I hate it

Side note, love that the hero points out that Miseru and the others could have literally asked for their kids back or their souls healed and it would have been granted, but instead they used the chance to have a kingdom wiped off the face of Lore (which was understandable given everything, but damn does that has to cut deep)

I know the hero got a pass from OWO to destroy Atlas mostly due to Tranquility demanding it, but I wonder if it's also in part due to the ritual sacrifice. Like, would they have held the hero responsible for their actions knowing they were bond to razing it to the ground? Would it be an instant that they would have tasked the hero with hunting down people with the knowledge of the ritual after the fact? Or would they have just voted to Silence them to avoid anyone else binding a god to do their bidding?

Looking back on the dialogue from the hero, it sounded like it was a completely different being from Dage and the Hero (at least after the first cutscene). They had even refer to the Eternal like they weren’t the same person in part 3

My take is that ■■■■■ was the Endless, but the Endless from the future where Dage accepted divinity and was at the end of eternity where they ended up alone, and he was just hearing the future.

Im reading it as the hero knew actually what they could have become with the Endless and wanted to cripple themselves in case they continued as the Endless and needed to be Silenced while they were still themselves

I have thoughts, but theres not enough to put into words atm other than ‘hey, that’s kinda concerning that its the same eye motif that the avatars get when stepping foot on Lore and might be the thing that distracted OWO at the end of RoCT’ and ‘the eye from the title card that’s sudden sus now’

Finrod is on a quest that’ll probably require reopening several old mental wounds, but he has to do it anyway, if he ever wants to close them. As such, i’m giving the setting a somewhat ominous tone. as I promised last time, we're taking a look at Guillimans nerd lair

it's full of books and related items

he's still trying to catch up on 10k years of history so Cawl filled him in on a bit but Cawl is…Cawl and also Cawl's records were lacking, lol he's also severely annoyed by the state of the discipline of history in the Imperium

guilliman also has problems dealing with the inquisition he made his own group of historitors and this reminds me of that one xkcd about standards problem: there are 11 competing groups in the imperium solution: make historitors who will be above the competition and backstabbing etc result: there are now 12 competing groups in the imperium

one of the things that makes guilliman sad is how cheap life is in the imperium so he tries to set up something so that the failures of the historitors still have support jobs well he started with a few people now there's a few thousand in his historitor corp, some of whom are doing indiana jones things would trazyn like a word his current free time problem: trying to figure out wtf the year is given there are apparently a ridiculous number of debates because ofc the year has theological implications and hey! an actual piece of satire! satire? in my 40k novel? for real this time??? well the book isn't a satire but, i finally found an element!

okay, that's enough of that for now guilliman is going to take a moment of real rest he looks out at the Rift and it feels like it's looking at him which he would have thought was his imagination but he's learned the universe is more bizarre than either of his fathers ever told him whiiiich makes him flashback to seeing the 40K Emperor Guilliman: nope! not thinking about that! Guilliman: I'm throwing that thought into a chest and locking it and throwing away the key he wishes he could talk to one of his brothers but they're all gone yeah he's feeling very alone rn

he has a lengthy internal monologue on everything that's wrong with cherubs lmao anyways "the priest is here"

yes he went on even more about the cherubs also, that last bit thinking about the cherub brings back more unwanted creepy flashbacks of meeting the Emperor nope! still not gonna unpack that one

Guilliman read another book and meanwhile starts making internal bets as to what the new priest will be like and now time to meet a man who will cause many problems on purpose Frater Mathieu! who is not at all what Guilliman was expecting

he's also got his own servo skull with him spoilers but later we're gonna find out it's from the teacher he had a crush on by that i mean, it's literally her skull Guilliman: so tell me why you think you're here the tldr is, guilliman needs a new militant-apostolic, whatever that is it seems to mean priestly attache Guilliman actually likes him let's see how long that last lmao

Mathieu makes a comment about him speaking plainly guilliman ends up kinda biting his head off a little, then apologizes he blames his stress lol there's some other stuff in this scene I elided over that might be relevant later

also unrelated note but Haley has a bit of a pacing problem

guilliman thinks about the book about imperium secundus but you know what genuinely WHY would it be a problem "oh no the son of the emperor thought the emperor had perished" "and LOYALLY SERVED BELOVED SANGUINIUS" it's not even like he declared himself Emperor!

Sky: Even aside from that, it's been 10K years and nobody figured out the Imperium Secundus while Guilliman was asleep Why would they find out now

anyways blah blah guilliman lies some more about symbolism and leaving the past in the past which is hilarious given we know what he was up to right before Mathieu showed up also he rewrote the Codex and now he's writing a law Codex for the Imperium Mathieu: you're doing this while conducting a military campaign? Guilliman: I don't have all the powers you guys think but I do in fact have multitasking superpower Mathieu: the Emperor made a lot of good decisions in designing you guys, huh Guilliman:

Guilliman tries to provoke Mathieu by saying the Emperor isn't infallible, but Mathieu is too distracted by "what?? there were twenty primarchs???" Mathieu: so uh anyways, heard when you woke up you were talking about this Imperial Truth thing? Guilliman internally: awkward

guilliman thinks obliquely about the tyranids and wonders if the emperor knew about them as well also the necrons and he has another flashback to seeing the emperor and gee, scooby, i think guilliman might have some Problems

you know, i don't like to talk about "deserving" but you have to admit it's ironic in an appropriate way

Guilliman's hypocrisy is very funny here NGL Like yeah, the Imperial Faith is full of fanatics. Even people like Mathieu are still indoctrinated into the cult. But was Guilliman really expecting him to shrug off a lifetime of indoctrination and conditioning after three sentences

the next bit adds to that lol even though Mathieu seems like a rare example of a non-fanatic, guilliman internally is just like "give it time" "the more mild they seem on the surface, the bigger fires of fanaticism are underneath" and like reading this i kinda wish the narrative hadn't proven him right about Mathieu? like yeah yeah 40k priests and all that but i think it'd have fit better

In fairness, I don't blame him for being cynical. Not all religions are like that, but the whole point of the Imperial Cult is to instill and stoke zealotry. You literally get censored if you're not zealous enough. But Guilliman has absolutely encountered equally unreasonable Imperial Truthers before (he was literally just complaining about Emps, if for a different aspect of the Truth) so his judgement is hilariously hypocritical

and also a big part of the series is guilliman grappling with the idea that maybe the emperor is a god, but not a kind one? anyways Mathieu is like "why do you even deal with us" Guilliman: because you guys are the ones with the power

there's a few things going on here and most of them are funny to me "i am no tyrant" wait til we get to the Make Ultramar Great Again scene he's not a tyrant he just needs everyone to do what he says and will ignore/crush any opposition! that's totally different from being a tyrant because he's benevolent!

the other funny thing is the usurper bit Mathieu has one last question why him?

wait if he's heard his sermons, why is he so surprised by Mathieu? anyways, Mathieu is going to go away and study and come back in 1 week with an answer chapter end

because also despite him saying all that stuff, he really did just pay lip service to the bits of the imperial truth and the designs of the 30k imperium that he didn't care for and you know what i bet that's part of why the emperor was always suspicious of guilliman i mean that's something i've talked about before lol about how it's funny how suspicious the emperor was of him meanwhile guilliman had all those mental blocks around the emperor

An unruly horse can clearly be identified in the beast before it even refuses a command. Oisín: [They did, yes. But they were probably the most excellent nightmares I could have ever worked with–]

Riddle: Oh, they were Nightmares?! I’ve read a bit about them, but I always assumed they were simply creatures of myth.

Oisín: [UwU Nope! Nightmares are very alive and well in the plains of Briar Valley. Though likely hard to spot and arguably harder to tame, they do roam freely in herds.]

Riddle: Are they largely feral? I’ve only ever seen herds of domesticated horses here and in the Queendom of Roses. 

Oisín: [I mean… UwU do you really think we could domesticate an entire species of fae?]

Riddle, irritated sweat drop: Fair point.

Riddle: I’m curious, did you tame yours yourself then? 

Oisín: [^^; No, they were actually gifted to me a very long time ago by someone important to me. Phobos and Deimos do come from a rare sub-breed of domesticated nightmares. They were bred with the very specific purpose of being work nightmares. The only real flaw at the time was that they had grown up as a bonded pair, so separating them was quite frankly out of the question. Not that I ever complained though; I couldn’t imagine a life without the two of them together honestly.]

Riddle: When did you get them?

Oisín: [Oh, a long time ago now. But I got them when they were still young. Lively and full of spite, to be quite honest. The day that they were gifted to me, Deimos nearly kicked me in the chest. He kept bucking and whinnying and hopping around, like a child throwing a temper tantrum. Also nearly caught the field on fire with his mane and tail, thrashing around everywhere. Honestly, I was just really fortunate that there happened to be a couple of fuaths in the nearby river. They helped keep the flames at bay, at least until we got him to calm down. ^^;] 

Riddle: Oh dear, well I’m certainly glad to hear that it didn’t result in any sort of wildfire! Did anyone get hurt?

Oisín: [Fortunately, no. Not seriously, at least. And to be completely honest, the best part of the entire thing was the cooked fish we got out of it. Can’t say the boys were too happy, but my caretakers and I ended up having a laugh about it after the fact.]

Riddle: Wait, I remember reading somewhere that Nightmares, like other fae like creatures, can live for centuries. How long did you have them?

Because they didn't even have a choice when they were all forced to grow up so soon, which is why so many of them are stunted to a degree. Even Mako has her own suffering, with how she kept suppressing her own emotions, to the point it made her sick because her body could not handle the strain at all.

Zoro probably has the most "normal" ish upbringing like he went through a lot, but no abuse, no neglect, no world government bs, but something along the lines of what I call Bridge to Terebithia, where you lose your childhood friend so suddenly like that. Because life is random sometimes and it sucks (also the writer's son's friend irl died via lightning strike, but it was tweaked to what happened in the book because it wasn't as realistic so yeah), and it will forever stay with you. So live on.
