Summertime Baking Therapy: #1 Almond Milk
Hello, every birdie!
Almonds, almonds and more almonds. Slowly but surely I am using up all of the almonds that my older brother brought home a few months ago. And believe me when I say that I am not complaining about the amount of almonds that I have. I never thought that I would have been baking with this many almonds.
A few weeks ago my dad came to me and asked me to look at how to make almond milk. I took the challenge, and gave him the result a few days later after a few YouTube videos and a look at the Instant pot Blender manual (not sponsored) that we have.
I was lucky that this blender that we have has a nut milk blending function. And you could most definitely make this in a normal blender.
You dont need that many ingredients for this recipe.
In order to make about 5 cups of almond milk you will need: • 1 cup almonds • 5 cups water ( doesn't have to be filtered) • 1 tsp vanilla • 2 tsp of sugar or 2 pitted dates
The first thing you want to do is measure out a cup of your almonds. And soak them in the fridge overnight. This helps break down the shells a little bit.
The next day, you can make your almond milk. Drain your almonds and add them to the blender. The add in your 5 cups of water. If you want it to be thicker, add less water. If you want it to be thinner then add more water. Add in your flavorings. In my case it was the vanilla and sugar.
Because I have the instant pot ace blender, it has a button for nut milk. And that is what I pushed. It mixes all of the ingredients together for about 4-5 minutes. And if I was using a regular mixer I would suggest mixing on high for the same amount of time. Checking it every once in a while. I mean I did that with my blender because I was not sure how it was going to taste.
Now we are going to grab our "nut milk bag," our cheese cloth, our a very thin dish cloth and we are going to strain the almond milk. You also want to grab a food storage container for the almond pulp. Don't throw them away. I will be posting a few recipes that uses those. Place the milk into a container that can go in the fridge. And now you can say that you have made almond milk.
Don't be surprised it will probably separate in the fridge after a few dats. It is fine all you need to do is give it a stir.
I loved this recipe. I was so easy yo do and it was fun to see everyone's reaction when I tell them that I made it from scratch. And it tasted really really good.
I hope that you liked this recipe.
Feel free to check out the recipe:
Enjoy!

i think the reason im so unbelievably sad eventhou i stopped really listening to solo 1D is that im mourning the lost of my teenage self . Im mourning the liam that saved me despite everything , im mourning the person he could have been . Im mourning for the boys having to experience this pain so publicly and his family . And deep down im mourning the end of 1D . As selfish as it might sound i always hold on to the hope that eventually they would reunite at some point and now nothing is same . We never really got our happily ever after

Here, have the only gluten free/wheat free bread that has worked for me so far.
I found this on the back of a flour back, but it works with bob’s red mill flour too, but it typically goes for an hour instead of 45 min.
It’s a bit bland, so I like to add Italian herbs, a bit of onion powder, nutritional yeast, whatever I’m feeling at the time. I’ve flung both garlic and olives into it and it’s worked out great.
It sticks together, it’s nice and fluffy, it tastes like bread, and it can slice pretty thinly if need be.
Here’s a picture of the recipe:
Tumblr media
And a rough transcript:
Ingredients:
-Gluten free/wheat free flour, active dry yeast, Sugar, salt, warm milk, room temperature cubed butter, eggs, xanthan gum, vegetable oil (or olive, it doesn’t matter)
1- preheat oven to 375F and grease 9x5 bread pan. Set aside.
2- in small bowl, add 1 1/2 cups of warm milk. As 1tbsp of yeast. Mix and set aside till foamy.
3- in mixer with paddle attachment, as three cups flour, 1tbsp xanthan gum, and 1tbsp of sugar. Mix and add 1/2 tbsp of salt.
4- turn mixer on low and slowly add milk mixture and two eggs. As soon as dough is formed, add 5tbsp of cubed room temp butter one by one.
5- as soon as butter is incorporated, turn mixer on medium high for 3 min. Dough will be thick, smooth and very wet.
6- scoop dough into oiled bowl and shape into a vague loaf shape. Plonk in loaf pan and use a spatula to smooth over top.
7- take some plastic wrap, spread a tiny bit of oil on it so it doesn’t stick to the dough and cover the pan. Let sit for 15 min or until dough has risen to double its size.
8- remove plastic wrap and bake for 45 min to 1 hour. (Bob’s red mill usually takes an hour for me and my oven is very hot if that helps). Once the time is up, take it out and tap it to see if it sounds hollow. If it doesn’t, it needs to to for a couple more minutes. If it does, take it out and let it sit for 10 min.
- take it out, put it on a wire wrack (or an upside down sieve or colander honestly) and let it cool completely. Then go to town on your bread.

I wish society understood and accepted neutrality better. Like the second you wave off being aggressively positive people freak out "OH NO YOU CANT BE NEGATIVE IT'LL MAKE YOU DEPRESSED" bitch I'm not being negative and I'm not being depressed. I've been there done that but now I'm not and things aren't great but that's okay. Some parts of life just suck and accepting your limitations doesn't have to be negative. It can just be neutral. We can just exist.

if y'all had ever actually seen a horse unseat rider, i think it might cure a lot of this hubris. i've never been a "horses are so easy" person, but if i was, seeing one of my friends get bucked off and flung across the enclosure where we were riding on her farm would have ended that.
she was a powerful horse girl who raised and trained horses her whole life (and still does btw). so imagine what a horse could do to someone like me if it really wanted to.
I always thought it was like an exaggeration when horse people would talk about how silly it was for anyone to think that riding a horse does not require any particular level of skill or balance or anything, or even that they "drive themselves" (???) but just the tags on the reblogs of that "can you ride a bike and/or horse" post from me alone are demonstrating how overconfident some people are in their (often entirely theoretical!) ability to stay on an alive and moving animal with a will of its own.

why, when I’m telling people I’m lactose intolerant, do they always say to try the pills. have you considered that I have tried them? have you ever considered that I’m perfectly fine without dairy?

i think most of the white ppl feeling like they have no culture stuff stems from a lack of connection to their communites. if you go nowhere and talk to no one then yea youre not really participating in the culture of your area. eat produce grown by ppl in your area go to county fairs check out the annual things in your area, thats your culture. like to give an overly simple answer if you live in america then americana is pretty likely to be part of your culture
#put some blue jeans an cowboy boots on if you need a cultural garment#or logger boots/ work boots if those are more historically or familially relevant to you#honestly if you just talk to your living relatives enough you can learn about possible fibercraft your great-whatevers did#i learned recently that a lot of my family lived in tenessee for a few centuries#but my dad is a carpenter and i live in the pnw#my town had some historic logging activity#and is known for its raspberry production#currently we have a lot of local dairy and beef#the grocery store sells cheese and milk from the next town over#this is part of my culture#i do think Americans' affinity for moving across the country from where they were born makes the cultural alienation worse too#but you just gotta learn the cultual details of wherever you end up putting down roots#at the same time#i don't think its very harmful to learn more about older traditions your european relatives had as long as youre not being fascy about it#ppl say its diff with black people learning about african cultures because of the violent supression of slaves' cultures#but like you still get fascy hoteps and shit#and historically there was (much less violent) suppression of non brit protestant european cultures in the US#so like#none of us got to choose how much culture got passed onto us from our relatives#obviously dont start spouting ethno-nationalist bullshit and speaking with an accent based on your ancestry results#but i think its ok for people to adopt practical cultural elements into their daily lives#like cooking cultural foods or learning about the history of that culture#its not like americana hasnt ever been used for fascist ends
